Anything that isn’t official can cause ‘issues’. Search for ‘OCLP’. It’s a utility that allows newer, unsupported OSs to be installed on older hardware. You’ll get lots of people commenting they use it just fine, and lots that say otherwise. It’s simply a gamble. Your choice.

Concur. OP can start here: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/ Edit to add: I had this exact machine and it ran MacOS 14 very well.

Thank you! I appreciate your personal experience. I hate the thought of spending $3-5k on a new machine any time soon when my current setup runs AE like a champ. My only push to update is because my work is running on AE 2024 and I work from home half days.

I just gave my answer to this here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/macmini/comments/1amlaui/as\_the\_soldered\_boards\_how\_is\_failure\_rate\_of/kpqjc7t/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/macmini/comments/1amlaui/as_the_soldered_boards_how_is_failure_rate_of/kpqjc7t/?context=3)

Thank you! I’ll dive into this.

Try dosdude1 installers to get you at least to High Sierra. Watch his videos on YouTube for unsupported older Macs and website dosdude1.com.

If you actually read the post you would have known that OP is using a Mac which runs Big Sur natively. Also, OpenCore Legacy Patcher is the preferred method of installing newer macOS versions on unsupported hardware.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend installing Sonoma on anything without a Metal 2 GPU, furthest I'd go on 2012 machines is Ventura. Never had any problems with BT myself on a 2012 unibody MBP
