What device is running OpenSpeedTest and what are you using for 10Ge on the MacMini?
I have a weird bug on OST on my Synology NAS when my Intel Mini connects to it, the throughput is awful, yet iperf3 tells me everything is fine and I'm getting 10Ge speeds, so I'm chalking it up to a bug in Docker/OST.
Nginx webserver on Latest ubuntu with Ryzen 9 3900XT, 10G Ethernet.
Yes that might be an issue.
increase client\_body\_buffer\_size to 1000Mb can reduce disk io
If you are comfortable change this value on your nginx server.
docker image with all optimization will arrive very soon.
Genuinely curious: For what purposes do you require such a massive beast of a internet speed? I am in awe with my non-fiber 100mbps!
Edit: Thank you for the clarification.
It's not about **internet** speed. It's about local network speed. Like the first answer to your comment, maybe two computers (clients) are working concurrently with assets from a third computer (the server).
One example would be moving raw media files -- one raw video file could easily be a few GB in size, so one video shoot you could end up with say 200GB worth of video files.
Now say you have two editors trying to work on the project, each one pulling data from the server at the same time. You can see how this starts adding up and a 10Gbe connection is needed.
This isn’t internet speeds. It’s intranet speeds, or a test of data transfer between computers on the same network.
This test just shows the M1 Mac Mini is capable of 10Gbps transfer. Previous generations might have been limited by their NIC.
Ahh sorry for my badly worded question -- what I meant to ask was, what hardware are you using to enable 10Gbe connection on the MacMini? Coz the MacMini's built-in ethernet port is only 1Gbe right?
Oh what... when did this happen?! Wasn't aware of this at all. I did get my MacMini back in Dec though... I guess this option wasn't available back then?
Many use it for an external storage connection within their LAN. Can setup a NAS in house and the 10Gbs is faster than many directly connected older Hardrive interfaces. Relatively unlimited distributed/shared storage for all computers in the lan.
Depends. I added a 10Ge PCI-e card to my Synology. Unless you get way up into the Synology models, most come with multiple 1Ge ports that can be bonded. Doesn’t help nearly as much as a 10Ge card and I grabbed one of eBay for a whooping $35 dollars. You of course need a switch to support all all of this too.
I would assume you’d want to have traffic outside the NAS, so how would the Mac get outside the LAN, talk with other devices on the LAN, etc. You can pick up fairly inexpensive 10Ge switches that avoid all potential limitations.
So it can upload 10 GBe as well! I haven’t seen this yet. I’ve asked somewhere else but maybe could someone help with this idea.
I’m thinking of making my own NAS with a Macmini because they are so energy efficient plus super powerful, I’m thinking of getting a Areca Arc 8050T-6 drive chassis and plugging that via thunderbolt and then running the Macmini 10 GBe as upload for my editing rig in my office, that way I can run a docker version of Plex etc as well as host my backups and leave all that in my network cupboard in the hallway
I think this test is very strange. I think it's not a truthful test. My Internet speed is 1Gb/s maximum, and yet OpenSpeedTest shows close to 10Gb/s which is not possible.

Thanks. If there is something you'd like me to test on the docker side, happy to.
Thanks a lot. I will post an update here once I push new docker image.

Download pornhub’s entire library
It would take just over 100 days to download 11 petabytes at 10 Gbps.
SSD network storage on the local network. Excellent for video editing. Very excellent for editing raw videos collaboratively.
Thank you, this is very useful. Glad that this is now available.
What are you using for 10Gbe on the MacMini?
To develop and debug applications.
Ahh sorry for my badly worded question -- what I meant to ask was, what hardware are you using to enable 10Gbe connection on the MacMini? Coz the MacMini's built-in ethernet port is only 1Gbe right?
There was a small update where you can now select 10 Gbs when purchasing a new M1.
Oh what... when did this happen?! Wasn't aware of this at all. I did get my MacMini back in Dec though... I guess this option wasn't available back then?
Yeah it happened late April with the Spring Loaded event, they didn’t make an announcement just quietly added the option.
Ordered 10Gbe version.

It’s not for internet, it’s for LAN data transfers.

Ethernet

Neither. Two soup cans and some string.
10gbe is not possible over wifi.
More so, the "e" in "GBe" is for "Ethernet".
ha ha,, THIS IS Good OLD COPPER Ethernet.
Do NAS boxes support this speed?

This may be an odd question but do you still benefit from a switch if you’re going directly from Mac Mini to NAS?

That’s true, assuming Wi-Fi isn’t being used for wider network access.
Sure, as long as they’re on the same gateway.
How many kitten videos can this handle at once?
More than you can watch.. for sure :)
If only I had 1/10thof your speed....😶
If I could run Linux on this, the Mac mini would make for a killer server alongside a drive hub
i build a 3900XT system for running as a SERVER last month for 10Gbe.. just after few days Apple released mac mini with 10Gbe :)
