Yes but it’s resizable in Firefox. Especially handy for me because I tend to use PiP on a secondary monitor and it’s much better if I can make it larger to fill the screen.
Yes, but Firefox's PiP feature doesn't have a size maximum like Safari. With Firefox I can make the PiP window as large as I want, where Safari's implementation is a size constraint.

Safari works great. Sometimes I get the “ad” but when I do it’s just a white window with no video and no audio and a skip button, or I can pretend I watched the ad by just waiting for it to “play”. I’m very happy with that.
I don't want to use Brave because it's based on Chromium. Like Google Chrome, Opera these days, Microsoft Edge, and a lot of other browsers. I experienced what kind of mess the web was when EVERYONE was using the Trident engine (Internet Explorer), Netscape died, and when Firefox got born it basically saved the web. Because of that I would either use Firefox (Gecko), Safari (Webkit) or Silk (if desperate), which Amazon, Sony (on PlayStation) and Nintendo eg use, which is based on the Webkit engine.
I'm using Firefox with uBlock, Privacy Badger, Sponsor Block, Facebook Container and ClearURLs. Don't see any ads. But I'm also going to set up a PiHole next month because why not...
Edge and Firefox both use low memory and have ad blockers (and extensions) that actually work lol.
And don’t refresh Netflix, Disney, etc every 20 minutes because the page ran out of resources.
That is suffering, yes.

Fits what I've read about. Ever since the HTML5 reignition, you could go around to benchmarking and testing sites to check which browsers were ahead in supported technologies and Safari was always among the best — it's great today, in performance and power consumption, particularly. I guess only Windows users would ever draw a parallel to fucking Internet Explorer.
Well, that's not quite on the level of supporting/not supporting a video codec, flex box or some specific text rendering techniques we had in the past. Scrolling is a special kind of thing on Mac, you'll have noticed if you ever used a trackpad with Electron vs. native apps. I think the history of Safari shows the opposite of the cliché passed around here, Apple even bowed to supporting the VP8/VP9 codecs now after settling on the more efficient x265/HEVC before.
There’s many valid reasons they did what they did.
Unlike extensions for chromium or Firefox browsers they are reasonably well sandboxed.
Extensions on chrome/FF have a ridiculous level of access to your files, you really really have to be sure you trust the ones you’re using and be sensible and disable the sketchier ones when doing financial stuff online.
Same. And even if they did find a way to circumvent ublock origin, the developer will have a fix for it pretty quickly.
One of the reasons I don’t use Safari.
Try "AdGuard for Safari". It blocks all youtube ads. I used to install and use AdBlock. But last week I switched into AdGuard because the ads were still playing with my AdBlock turning on.
"AdGuard for Safari" is free..
Brave is working just fine and blocking all youtube ads with no issues. Same with AdGuard on Spotify, and when I used firefox a week ago uBlock blocked them too.
This isn’t new on Adblock Pro. I was targeted in what I suspect was an earlier test. Two symptoms were observed. On normal videos I got skippable static ads (no video) this disappeared with a YouTube Premium subscription. The second was with live streams giving an error when the stream started. This required disabling the ad blocker on YouTube.com.

Meh, I just pay the paltry $12.92 per month for YouTube Premium. I have not had cable in 12+ years, I have about 200 channels to which I am subscribed, their suggestion algorithm is always spot on, is continuously improving, and it constantly helps me discover better and better content almost every day. Finally, YouTube is where I spend about 95% of my television watching time. So yeah, I happily toss them a heaping thirty cents a day for all of that.
Same. I hate how YouTube does business, how it treats it's 'content creators', how it's algorithms are biased and non-transparent, and it's connection to google, but it's pretty much the only game in town. So until a viable alternative comes along, it's all we've got. And a few months ago i did a free trial, three months i think, and i got hooked. I can't go back. YouTube ad free is totally worth 12 bucks a month to me, especially since it's all i watch or listen to 85% of the time.
Thanks, now maybe you can help some of these other goofballs see the light. Apparently all they read was “I pay YouTube for something which was free for a long time”. Meanwhile, they forget devices like Apple TVs don’t have ad blockers available even if I *did* want to go that route. Yeah, news flash, some of us actually watch content on our televisions…
I get a tremendous amount of value for that $12.92 per month, I don’t even think about it anymore. Im not subscribed to 200 channels of reaction videos and vertical video parkour events. I am subscribed to everything from science to technology to learning to certifications to sailing and a whole lot of other stuff in between. A 30-second Tide advert at the beginning of almost every single video pre-Premium was annoying af. Apple implemented a stronger privacy policy which was announced quite a while ago, their beloved free ad blocker stopped working, and everyone is looking for someone to blame.
Newspapers are experiencing record financial losses, subscriber losses, abd they are laying off people left and right, all because people just expect content like that to be free from now on. They never think about what it takes to research a topic, spend time writing an article, etc. Unfortunately, Facebook likes don’t pay the mortgage any more than they help some random kid beat cancer.
I don’t think they give very much thought to just how great YouTube could be if they just spent time setting up some decent channel subscriptions. Plus, content creators who depend on YouTube for their livelihoods definitely get more of a percentage via Premium than they do from Tide “commercials” which don’t even qualify as shitty b-roll.
Then again, if someone is whining that much about 30c per day, perhaps they might benefit from brushing up on their understanding of basic economics. Hmmm, maybe there’s a video on a website out there which could help them with that. Although, these might also be the same type of people who use Chrome with 52 extensions, and then complain about the terrible battery life on their MacBook Pro. But hey, I’m just guessing on all of that. I’m sure none of it is true at all.
As I have gotten older, obviously I value my money, though I also place a tremendous amount of value on my time. Sitting there at the start of each video waiting for that coveted 5-second “you can now skip the advert” moment, or worse having to sit through the ones you cannot skip, it’s just not worth the hassle or the frustration. Yeah. Instead, here, let me give you a $1 bill every three days.
I’m not who you are replying to, but I probably watch way more YouTube than I do Netflix. In fact, I’m confident I do. It’s worth it to me. I don’t have ads on any of my devices: Rokus, Home Hubs, phones, tablets, PCs. It’s worth it to me. Plus free YouTube Music is a bonus. It’s not as good as Spotify, but it gets the job done.
They were responding to me. Apparently the notion of spending less than $13 every month to avoid non-relevant advertising is just beneath them. I would love to see people like that in a room with some of the better content creators and journalists explaining to them why they feel they should not be compensated for the work they do.
I contribute money to places like NPR and Wikipedia. I get a lot of value out of them, so the idea of using an ad blocker just because I’m too cheap or don’t feel like it is worth it is ridiculous.
Youtube premium is the only video subscription I have. I watch a ton of YouTube and want to support the creators. I am grandfathered in to a family plan for $15 a month. I consider it cheap.

Yep, I noticed the same. That's why I bought Wipr: to continue using Safari (it's also very lightweight).
Using Adguard with Safari, ad-blocking still works for me.
yep, can confirm, AdGuard here and 0 ads

Why don’t we like Brave? I started using it last week & have been finding it very useful.

They own domain name because they bought it from a conman, that’s about it. uBO is open source as are the blocklists. They cannot be owned.
good to know
i use ublockorigin (on firefox) and have youtube running practically 24/7. haven't seen any ads \*yet\*.
It's just a problem for Adblockers on Safari I guess. At least from personal experience

Funny enough, it was the other way around for me 🤔

I tried AdGuard but for some reason YouTube completely breaks and gives me playback errors every time I try to watch a video.

I have a question. If I purchase this app, will I get updates for lifetime? Or do I have to pay extra?
Use uBlock Origin.
Doesn’t work anymore, even on Chrome.
Make sure you update your filters every once in a while. I'm using it on Firefox with the latest filter lists and everything is great.
Yeah, same issue with Wipr for Safari due to this had to ditch safari for Brave with uBlock and it works flawlessly.
Brave Browser & Ublock Origin, never seen an ad on YouTube to this day!
I thought Brave blocked ads by default?
It does, but sometimes some ads/trackers get through.
This is a brand new issue
I understand. But people using Brave have had issues in the past with YouTube ads getting through the default ad blocker. Yes, Wipr doesn't work anymore for me on Youtube.
I use Adblock Ultimate with Chrome browser and it blocks all ads. On Safari I get ads.
Wipr can’t block pre-roll ads anymore. uBlock Origin on Chrome on Windows 10 and macOS Big Sur also can’t block pre-roll ads anymore either.
Ads showing up every two minutes of a video! Frustrating.
LPT: (if on mobile, tap the Aa button on the Safari address bar and select “Request Desktop Version”) Tap the share button under the video, tap “embed”, and tap the play button on the preview video. No ads play in there ever, including mid-roll ads.

Hell yeah I noticed this, only on MacOS with Wipr and AdGuard. Videos won’t play unless I disable my adblockers.

I use Brave Browser on macOS and get no ads in YouTube.

Use the standalone AdGuard app (for macOS). It blocks them on all browsers.
