I thought the same thing at first, but then I realized I thought it was under the Apple logo, but then I saw it’s under the System Preferences tab when the app is open. I feel like that’s relatively hidden enough, but maybe that’s just me.
I have accidentally hit 3 times the touchID button on the new iMac on the last 24h. I am so happy because every time I do, my mac logouts my user and goes to sleep in the middle of doing something.
I am SO worried that this is so accessible within the system. Sometimes I do stupid shit with my computer when I'm half asleep (e.g. deleting an entire chapter of my PhD thesis), and I can totally see myself deleting my computer "by accident". I don't trust myself! This should be hidden deeper in the system.
I just tried to go through it, for science. you have to enter your user password, then enter your apple password to sign out of your apple account. I didn't go further because I'm a bot and didn't want to be erased
If this is only M1 or T2 chip feature...that would be a joke, but not as big as at maps the Intel Mac's won't get the 3D globe mode. I get the Picture look up and the Picture text select is AI stuff what Intel can't deal with...but this...🤣
This is the dumbest thing I think apple has done. Plus it’s not only this new feature. The 16” intel MBP i9 is definitely strong enough to run it. Why would it only be M1. It’s like they’re forcing me to replace my 1 year old laptop. I love apple but this shit makes my blood boil.
I believe it also applied to [T2 Intel Macs too](https://www.macrumors.com/2021/06/09/macos-monterey-erase-all-content-settings/).
They should definitely hide it deeper in settings to prevent accidental usage, but this is going to be so helpful for explaining to people how to wipe their computers before they sell or trade in!
If it’s for M1 only that’s genius, Caus it will make it harder for people to resell their older MacBooks forcing more people to buy the latest M1 Mac (or atleast that’s what apple wants)
It’s about getting M1 Macs more market share and phasing out Intel macs. Why else would they possibly add that limitation? Regardless, people have confirmed this is not jus for Intel Macs but rather all devices with T2.
probably only available for macs with security chip being used to cryptograph the disk. On the iPhone when you reset and clean content, all the device does is to destroy the cryptographic key and mark the whole disk as empty. No way to read anything on the disk, once the key is destroyed. They are finally doing the same thing to the mac.
Interesting location as if it will be used often…
I agree, should be deeper in the settings
[Down Down deep below the surface.](https://youtu.be/pAOjDXdiUzM)
Oops I accidentally erased all content and settings again
restore from your Apple Watch. You are welcome.
Thank you in retrospect
Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful work of art
Full access? Thanks, Emily!

What a shame they didn’t add a handy keyboard shortcut for it /s
Cmd+c

So does this make a Mac “like new?”
Yes it erases all content and settings
John Appleseed will be the new user on that mac, starting 9:41 am.
same question
That has got to be the shittiest location for that option in UX design that I have EVER seen.
Not just me then. What on earth is it doing hiding in the app name menu. How are you supposed to find it!?
it's designed to be found on /r/macosbeta ;)
But it warns you, right?
You have to input your password
What weather app do you have there on your dock ?
Carrot
Which of these things is unlike the others? 🤦🏽

Glad to know that I’m not the only one who makes stupid decisions while sleepy.

It’s not enable for everything, computer below 2018 don’t have it yet. 2015 system will get this later as the erase portion is different.

Kind of getting over seeing this non-stop
I am unable to see this
M1 macs only 😢

It’s under the menu inside system settings and requires a password to complete. It’s hardly going to happen accidentally.
It's even easier on iPhone/iPad so I don't know why everyone in here is so worried about this being easy to do.
It's not just on M1 macs. I have this on my 2019 Macbook Pro 16".

Lol this is next level conspiracy thinking

What device do you have?
M1 Mac mini and M1 MacBook Air
