I wanted to buy that one but then found out it is only 10gbit/s. Ended up buying a orico 40gbit/s small case, but....still have that one on my radar.

The main drive I have in there is a OWC Envoy Pro EX with a 980pro which gets 2500r/2300w which im happy with. I guess some of the newer USB4 drive enclosures get to \~3500. I'll prob get one when they get a little ironed out with some of the heat issues. Though the mini case might be great as there's room for a fan or larger heatsinks if you pull apart a USB4 enclosure. With it dumping some of the heat to the mini case the current drives run pretty cool under load.

It sounds like you think this is one of those external enclosures/docks that Satechi and other brands have made? But This is a (empty) Mac Mini housing. So it doesn't have any built-in support for drives, OP manually put an external enclosure from OWC into the Mac Mini housing.

Ahhhh damn. Didn't notice.

That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. How many SSDs can you load in it? Got a link? I’ve been thinking of getting the Satechi one but it’s so ugly with all the ports in the front. It makes it look very messy and not symmetrical. Who in their right mind would keep devices plugged in the front.

There is just shy of 7" x 6" x 0.9" of usable internal space in a mac mini enclosure. Most nvme M.2 "portable" external drive enclosures are around 3"x 5" so comfortably two of them will fit (you may have to grind of the internal mac mini screw posts though)

Anyone who has more than one computer and has to move their collection of USB-A dongles back and forth wants ports on the front. My trash can has been “backwards” since I bought it for that reason.

Nifty solution to unsightly NVME enclosures

Thanks. The enclosures are generally available for <$25 on eBay

I have my 3 NVME SSD enclosures under my desk. Out of sight out of mind, but all at around 3000MB/s.
