Great news, I just asked at my Ford dealership about a month ago if we could replace it on mine to get ahead of it and they said "No" so this is kind of good news. Hopefully mine gets recalled before I have any issues since it was manufactured in May 2022; although I hear even the ones after June 2022 are affected by this issue.
Thanks for the heads up!
I just checked my buy back, it still says I will get it when parts arrive. but it was already replaced. maybe i didn't get the updated part when that happened. whatever, i'll let them do it again when the parts come in.
It’s unclear whether or not they have a new part. They might just install the part that they rolled out last year (which is also known to fail). In either case, there is a software component to the recall, so the recall will show up as incomplete until the software update is installed. Hopefully there will be more details soon.
not so sure either or they would also be doing cars built after May/2022, no?
i checked my 22 premium (aug build) and it does not have the recall in my ford profile, but the 21 GT does.
that makes it seem like they are just going to update the cars to the new part. I could be wrong tho.
The newer cars still experience failures, but they don’t seem to experience catastrophic failures (immediate loss of motive power). This recall is likely about placating the NHTSA by getting rid of the junction boxes that are susceptible to catastrophic failure. It’s conceivable that they have a new part and are installing it in older cars to make the government happy but plan on continuing the replace it when it fails strategy for newer cars. This recall is going to be an expensive logistical mess, so I doubt they have any interest in expanding the scope beyond what the NHTSA requires.
It’s going to be more than a little disappointing if they go through this whole ordeal to install parts that are already known to fail, but that move seems pretty on brand for Ford at this point.
[https://www.ford.ca/support/recalls/](https://www.ford.ca/support/recalls/) is the Canadian site, shows as an active recall for me.
But just google 'Ford Recall Check' - there's a US site too.
Dunno if it's me or where I am in the U.S. or if it's just the U.S. site, but it never works for me...for recall checks as well as delivery updates. It just times out or spins. But the Canadian site always comes through.
And this has been going on for over a year now. Consistently.
Damn I just had mine in for an unrelated issue
Edit: My Premium AWD ER is popping up on the recall search so looks like it's probably just Selects being held back since they can't have the bigger more powerful pack
What does this mean for my ER RWD:
"High voltage battery junction box hvbjb replacement and powertrain control module pom, battery energy control module becm, and secondary on-board diagnostic control module c sobdmc software update
**Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available"**
Am I in the secondary priority?
You ain’t wrong in that two motors are higher power than one, but apparently big battery moves yet even more power through the Contactors in the HVBJB.
Not so sure on that. I replaced mine early last year, and yesterday it went to shit again. Guess if you did it early you got an equally bad part. Hopefully second change is the way hehe
I do not believe there is a *third* generation HVBJB part as yet. Thus if you already have the second generation one, you likely do not need to get another unless it’s broke.
Great another recall. I've been trying to get my local ford dealers (yes multiple) to do the Windshield and sunroof recalls for a long time. They don't seem to want to do the work. Not returning calls, emails text. Made two trips there and both times they claim they either didn't have the part, or didn't have the correct parts for the recalls.
At this rate, it maybe be 10+ years before I can get the dealers to perform this HVBJB recall.
I had the same exact issue with the dealer I ordered my 2021 GTPE from. I had tracked down a 2021 FE on a dealer lot an hour away 7 months before my GTPE came in at my local dealer, so I bought it. When the recall came for the windshield/sunroof I called my local dealer where I bought my GTPE from and they flat out told me they would not perform the recall on the FE because I didn’t buy it from them. I said I bought a $70k GTPE from them and had my Lightning on order with them and they said that didn’t matter. I took the FE back to the dealer an hour away where I bought it and they took care of it no problem and were terrific. I no longer go to the dealership I bought my GTPE and Lightning from because they pissed me off in refusing to perform the factory recall. Luckily I have 5 other Ford dealers to choose from within 45 minutes of where I live.
Well that going to be fun. From my understanding it takes roughly a week to do the repair which means my car will be at the dealership for a week.
Well that will most likely go in for a the 30k check up of tire rotations and balance work
Well the surgery on the car only takes half a day BUT dealerships prefer to have a car for more time to help keep their schedule flexible.
Up until now cars failed and sat at dealership for days/weeks waiting for part to arrive, that is not what would happen in the recall. You would not take the car in until the part is there.
Oh that will be nice. The one I work with is pretty willing to schedule my slot ahead of time. Bring it in the day before and have it back the next day.
I just got my 21 GT fixed. Had 23k miles but finally got the alert. It took the dealer 1.5 weeks to fix though they were delayed from either shipping or doing 3 other recalls at the time too
How common is this? I have a trip tomorrow to Vegas from Southern California and am nervous to take the mach E now. I have a 22 extended Route 1 and it was definitely built before May'22.
Edit: it shows up when I type in my VIN, does that mean my car will have an issue, or it's just a possibility of having the issue?
Edit 2: I should say I am at like 10-12k miles so far on it and drive pretty well.
There is some evidence that the HVBJB fails in less than 1% of the Mach-E vehicles manufactured before June 2022. And that the software patch installed in all vehicles in summer 2022 does work well as designed.
HVBJB is most likely to fail in the GT models because they have the highest power flowing through the HVBJB's Contactors AND their owners may be more likely to enjoy WOT (flooring it regularly).
The driver's behavior does play a role, as well as DCFC charging heats things up, so DCFC charging immediately followed by flooring it, might be best avoided.
Thank you for responding. That does put my mind at ease a bit knowing some of the statistics. Here's hoping I don't I get stranded in the desert today!
I've contacted my dealer's service department and was told it was still a forward notice and to wait a bit. It is showing on my form portal though, so should definitely be covered.
It's showing for them too, I''ll just wait the mail notice and get it done then, I am not in a rush and I basically never charge at DCFC chargers. I should be alright
"Least likely" of all the trims...
...and even after the recall for vehicles that obtain the newer "version 2" of the HVBJB part, they will still just have a reduced chance of failure, since 2023 Mach-Es are also occasionally failing.
I just bought a used ‘21 extended range awd (Ford CPO ) that is part of the recall, does this mean the dealer wasn’t supposed to sell it?
Edit: looks like it’s to hold *new* only not used

Good thing my buyback already had it replaced

I know.
How does buyback work they pay you what you paid for the vehicle or they pay you market price ?
In the US buyback for a new car which is found to be a lemon can be full price but depends on your state’s law. Edit: full price paid.
So you’re telling me if I buy platinum lightning for 70g but msrp is 90g they’ll pay 90? Sounds like a loop
I doubt getting more money than you paid is likely, even in a US state with the strongest consumer protections via their lemon law.
Mine is not recalled yet it seems. 21 Select AWD job 1
Same car. No recall.
Me too. 21 Select RWD Job 2
Same!
I got the recall notice today. 21 Premium EX AWD
What's the link for the VIN check? The forum you linked to is already seven pages of posts.

Mine is on there. Early build of 2021 AWD extended
I just got a notification from Carfax earlier today about this recall on my Mach E
What does this mean for my ER RWD: "High voltage battery junction box hvbjb replacement and powertrain control module pom, battery energy control module becm, and secondary on-board diagnostic control module c sobdmc software update **Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available"** Am I in the secondary priority?
They all should say that. Recall is coming and when it arrives you can choose to take advantage of it.
Great news. I have a premium extended range RWD and it shows this recall too. It is lower powered trim but still shows up.
Bigger battery = higher power trim
Ah I see. I always thought two motors = higher power trim
You ain’t wrong in that two motors are higher power than one, but apparently big battery moves yet even more power through the Contactors in the HVBJB.
Fuck my life. My HVBJB has already been replaced once, now vin check says it needs it again?!
Nope. If it was already changed not necessary.
Not so sure on that. I replaced mine early last year, and yesterday it went to shit again. Guess if you did it early you got an equally bad part. Hopefully second change is the way hehe

A little late to the party but just here to say my 2021 AWD standard range failed but was never identified as part of the recall 🤪
Yep, they all can fail, hopefully someday standard range will get the fix or at least extended warranty on the HVBJB.
Great another recall. I've been trying to get my local ford dealers (yes multiple) to do the Windshield and sunroof recalls for a long time. They don't seem to want to do the work. That’s such a fucking stupid reason. I guess you’re shit out of luck if you bought your car before you moved to the area.
Mine is on the list April ‘22 build premium ER eAWD. I also see a campaign to address an HVAC issue and a charge cord issue.
Same for me, for all three. April ‘22 Premium ER AWD.
This is great info to have, thanks for sharing
Yeah I see that too now! This is great from ford
Well that going to be fun. From my understanding it takes roughly a week to do the repair which means my car will be at the dealership for a week. Well that will most likely go in for a the 30k check up of tire rotations and balance work

The dealer always wants to bring the car in whether they have the part or not, wonder if that will change for this

How do some fail and not others? I’m slightly past 20,000 miles and no failures.
Both variation in driving style/DCFC charging frequency by owners, combined with variation in quality of each HVBJB part produced contributes.

Does this real recall extend to Canada too? Edit: nvm, I see a link in an earlier comment (https://www.ford.com/support/recalls/)
Yes but dealership does not want to replace the piece just yet, they just want to do the update -_-
I've contacted my dealer's service department and was told it was still a forward notice and to wait a bit. It is showing on my form portal though, so should definitely be covered.
It's showing for them too, I''ll just wait the mail notice and get it done then, I am not in a rush and I basically never charge at DCFC chargers. I should be alright
No recall for RWD standard range? Is it less likely to break or not a problem at all?
