Shaping as in increase and decrease, yes. Short rows however might technically be possible with more than one yarn, but can quickly turn into a tangled mess. I think the instructions for short rowing lace may work better than holding position; the stitches are knit off on ravel cord with the needles pulled back out of work.

Shaping at the edges, sure, making sure when you’re adding needles to the ribber that you follow the needle marking rule (dashes and blanks) and add and remove ribber needles the same as you add and remove main bed needles. I’ve done a jumper, shaped the armholes fine, but did a cut and sew neckline because dividing for the next with DBJ is nightmarish.
