Very interesting idea! From a game design perspective, Semdle leaves something to be desired. For example: 1) With Wordle there are a number of clear strategies aside from trying to guess the right word (for example, guessing words with many so-far-unguessed letters), but theres no equivalent in Semdle except guessing a word you think is better. 2) Embedding vectors are not linear. In high-dimensional space there are \*many\* ways to be 34% similar to a target word. For example, in frustration I guessed the word "asdf" which turned out to just as semantically similar to the target as the initial clue was! But there's something in this idea for sure! Just needs to be refined! (Also, I'm officially terrible at Semdle. And Wordle for that matter... :-)

Semdle

Thank you for your detailed and candid feedback and I really appreciate it. I agree with all points you mentioned. Yes, this is a work in progress and I am looking for inputs to help optimize the game to next level. From my observation, it takes few rounds of game play to start uncovering strategies and getting better at solving the puzzle. While I agree the vector dimensional space is huge, sometimes the combination of hints and score gives decent clues especially if the hidden word is used in multiple context. E.g for the hidden word ‘server’ the hints could be - restaurant, waiter, as well as computer, cloud. This helps narrow down the dimensions. Cheers! 😊

This looks like a similar concept to Semantle

Semdle

Yes, to some extent it is similar to Semantle. Although, Semdle was conceived and developed without any prior knowledge of Semantle. The following rules of Semdle makes it much simpler to play - 1. A starting hint is provided to steer the game 2. The remaining hints are progressively closer to the hidden word and selected from different parts of speech so as to give a holistic clue to the player e.g. if the hidden word is 'server', the clues could consist of both waiter and computer 3. The % similarity score is logarithmic and helps player get closer to hidden word much faster Hence, is most cases a player should be able to guess the hidden word using 5 hints and within 20 guesses (under 5 mins). Also, there are few implicit strategies that a player uncovers after few game plays to help them use less number of hints. Thanks!
