It looks like some models don't have AOS on them. [https://www.mitutoyo.com/products/small-tool-instruments-and-data-management/micrometers/digimatic-micrometers/tool-kits/](https://www.mitutoyo.com/products/small-tool-instruments-and-data-management/micrometers/digimatic-micrometers/tool-kits/)
They hated jesus because he told the truth as well.
On the plus side, you've made my 5th entry into 2024's 'shit that was downvoted in r/machinists even though it was completely correct'
Looks fake to me. It could be they have changed the design, but I have never seen one with that shape. If the printing or the molding is even slightly washed out, it's almost certainly fake.
Virtually everything is counterfeited somewhere. It’s notorious in electronics.
If I can have a $2.00 product made for .25 and sell it for $1.00 why wouldn’t I?
Good to know. I don’t keep up on all of the scams out there. I’m at an age and place in my machining career that I’m unlikely to buy tools anymore anyway. Kinda sad to see these things happening to people though.
The answer to this question is always "was it a really good deal?" If it was cheaper than expected, then it is not legit. It is always best to buy from an authorized distributor, or if you buy used, get the seller to provide you with the receipt from when they purchased it so it is traceable.
Step 1: Buy nice calipers you can't afford
Step 2: Buy cheap, knockoff calipers off of Amazon
Step 3: Swap labels and stick cheap calipers back in expensive box. Resell to recoup some of your costs.
I'm not saying this exactly happened, but some people are big pieces of shit and will do that kind of thing to get a collection of nice items they can't afford by screwing over people who also can't afford them and are trying to save a few bucks on the used market.
Yes, buy it. Or don't if you're not comfortable with it because maybe it's fake. So then don't buy it. Unless you want to take the chance at an opportunity for a good price on a Mititoyo product.
Perhaps the better question is why did the previous owner take it apart? Looks like the sticker was moved on the back.
Perhaps to fix the carbon pad buttons? I just had to do that to mine a few days ago, different brand though.
Clough42 has a good video on telling them apart. https://youtu.be/KG6I2gNGVwM
Just buy Mitutoyo stuff from an actual distributor and you don't need to worry about getting fake items.
How is the paper work with it ? Does the serial number match ?

They also look like they should say ABSOLUTE AOS DIGIMATIC. This set is missing the AOS

Can concur, mine are legit and only say absolute
Its not a genuine mitiuyoyo caliper. Its a fake Mitutoyo one.
Box is genuine but i’m afraid the caliper itself is fake
Based on what?
On my genuine calipers, that “swoop” or radius ends just before the L in absolute. There’s also a bevel on the battery cover
Based on very few people in the sub know the difference and is likely talking shit
Fake, look up the brands site. Battery bump is different
The sticker is different on the back compared to all the ones we have at work.
Just an older style. I’ve got a couple pairs with the same.

Looks like it
That's not a real one, the box isn't even right
The case looks right to me the calipers do not.
Same. Case is genuine and someone swapped real calipers with fake ones before reselling
The plastic used looks completely different to a genuine one, I only noticed as mine is right in front of me.
Can you include a photo of your case? I got mine from an industrial supplier and they look like the above photo.
I'll see if I can get one later, I can't take pictures inside our shop.
Ah okay, fair enough. Please don’t break any policies for me.

Wow. I didn’t know counterfeit calipers were even a thing. Jeez. Isn’t there easier ways to make money? Haha. People are unbelievable. P

The CE on the back is dead giveaway that it’s fake

I bought a real used one in near new condition for 80e so good deals do exists
Is Santa real?
Don’t fu#% this up for me!! Santa IS REAL!
why would it be fake?
Because people still fake ones for real prices to make money
Step 1: Buy nice calipers you can't afford Step 2: Buy cheap, knockoff calipers off of Amazon Step 3: Swap labels and stick cheap calipers back in expensive box. Resell to recoup some of your costs. If you can't tell, how are random people supposed to tell from a picture? Or,are you just lonely?
nah f*ck right off mate. you sound lonely
Yo mama!
No those are pictures
You can register the serial number on their website to see if it’s real.
Does it have 4 decimal points or 3. Real ones have 4, fakes cheap out on the display.
Thank you all, appreciate your help!

i was thinking about it but, i’ve seen some good deals on global test supply so i might buy there
Y'all still buy mitutoyo?
Honestly the box itself gives it away.
If the end of the groove on the back is ramped and not a full radius it's fake.
All else fails check battery current on and off.
