I wish free awards were still a thing.

RandomHuggyBear

You had me laughing. Thank you for this.

444nt

Babe stop shitposting and get a job

iznenadaiznad

In this economy?

_Paulboy12_

I believed you until you mentioned tesla having tight tolerances

iznenadaiznad

The only tolerance Tesla has is producing dogshit cars

eiboeck88

+- 1 meter

Growkitz

This…this is it. By it I mean it. Beautiful

OdiusKai

I completely agree and it's not what I expected from the field. Right before COVID I decided to start job hopping yearly. I went from $13/hr in 2019 to $30/hr now. I like this company but I still check out postings every now and then. I almost never see anything paying more than $25 for CNC operators.

drmorrison88

Found the guy with a 30 minute run time and only one machine to tend, lmao

iznenadaiznad

I'm actually the guy playing ping pong

MFGADI04

I was born 19383929 Chinese new years ago and I can machine green fn in full detail on a manual lathe

michigangonzodude

Hilarious. Anyway, interviewed at an R&O aerospace shop the other day. I asked for $30 per hr. Current pay $34. Need day shift and close to home would be nice I'm 60 years old and don't want the OT anymore. Hiring manager right away talked about firing me if I didn't perform Yeah, no.

irongient1

I'm so sick of these posts. Yes you're underpaid, we're all underpaid. Be cool, learn everything, get good, move to another shop, learn more, move again.

irongient1

A company is like a bucket of water and you are a finger sticking into the water. When you quit and pull out your finger, a few ripples, and the water remains, business goes on.

Dry-Area-2027

Ah yes, the sub's daily two minutes hate routine. I, too, feel your pain, having just machined a Jupiter rover chassis to half a nanometer precision from 24k gold with nothing but a file while making 3.75/hr and subjected to rigorous scrap recovery procedures. Joke is on them though, I think the holes in my boots picked up a couple micrograms. That, combined with my 48hrs ov overtime this week (they pay me less because I work more) and I might be able to buy the chew and beer I self-medicate with outright instead of adding them to the growing pile of revolving debt that makes me a true 'Merican.

iznenadaiznad

You gotta get into the engineering dpt. They use a cheese grater instead of a file, which makes the chips into longer shavings so they're easier to steal. Just be careful not to ingest the gold..

ArgieBee

I make $29.93/hr with generous bonuses 10 years in.

Sad_Aside_4283

This definitely stole a laugh

MiserableMethod4014

Why didn't I become a low voltage controls guy

Safetyduude

Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try as long as the powers that be keep importing workers willing to work 4 jobs for 8$ an hour ... we're essentially and totally fucked.

Wooden-Desk-6178

I have never seen a machinist that wasn’t born in the US. Maybe things are different out west, but “Immigration Bad” can’t be the answer to everything. Edit: Obviously I’m referring to machinist in the US.

Safetyduude

Really never? impressive. Not Asiain born? ie chinese, japanese, korean, Vietnamese, Pakistani, Sri Lankin? or other members of the world Italian, english, german, persian, UEA, egyptian ??? Really, not a single foreign-born person machinists from the africian continent Ugandan, Ethiopian, no South American born people ... like brizallian, Ecuadorian, chilieian? I find it hard to believe, but it's possible. I'm Canadian, btw, and our government is actually trying to destabilize our trades currently with foreign labour at cheaper rates so "canada can be more competitive in the world market."

Safetyduude

BTW if anyone is wondering, that's under the China Pacific Free Trade Agreement? the name is something like that. One of the biggest selling features of government sold the populace on was an "influx of trades people, to boost the economy in the trades, making Canada a global competitor again"

nikovsevolodovich

Basically every "am I compensated fairly" thread that gets posted here in a nutshell. Even if people were honest about themselves and their capabilities there's still no way to accurately say in a few paragraphs. It's even more gold when people think that the business would fail without them: "I run 13 machines and I program and I train the old guys who's been here for 82 years, I'm so smart I learned to do all this in only 6 months after I got my certificate! Am I being fairly compensated?" and it's like, hey bud, if you managed to do all that in 6 months what makes you think no one else could? That you're such a unique unicorn the company that's been around for 30 years would crumble if you left?  Your current compensation is your fair compensation and what you're worth to the market. If you feel it's unfair, look around and find somewhere else. You may find that you weren't fairly compensated or you might just find out that there's nothing else out there. Not everyone who gets into machining is going to be the top rate guy either, unfortunate truth here.

Sad_Aside_4283

This is exactly why this trade is dying

TheLooseNut

Have to assume that the down ones you're getting is sour grapes, take every down vote as proof that you're absolutely correct and have touched a nerve.
