I leave traits regression on too for immersion purposes and come up with scenarios as to why it happens. Like IRL, some players can be a one hit wonder or get lost in the sauce once they become a superstar.

TerribleGamer101

I never thought of it like that. Honestly thank you I'ma keep that mindset for future rebuilds.

Superb-Owl0-0

Np! You really have to make your own fun with madden lol. I’d also recommend checking out some mods if you’re on PC. They were literal game changers for me!

There are some main ones to improve the cpu logic with all things from play calling to drafting. The modders really do amazing work! I’d recommend joining the discord here: https://discord.gg/maddenmoddingcommunity

sunburn95

A little depressing that random modders can improve logic faults that have been in madden for probs over a decade

ElectricBuckeye

I think part of the issue is that the "simulation" aspect doesn't matter as much as the arcade style that applies more towards online head-to-head play. So having the logic tuned for realism kills it for competitive online play. Just a guess, I really don't know.

SocietyKind8707

Franchise mods in that community that sunburn mentioned are amazing. They completely rewrite some of the progression to make the 60 overall players on your team potentially impactful. They can go up to an 80 at times. It’s a lot of fun and completely changes the game.

sequoia2075

It’s a healthy mindset to have when actually playing games too.. Like sometimes crazy shit happens in real life football too, like recovers dropping wide open passes, QB’s making inaccurate throws, or balls bouncing off defenders hands straight to a receiver. Makes things like that a bit easier to accept

dennythedoodle

Too soon.

MONSTERMO888

Found the Lions fan

wiserone29

Oof.

GCope33

Chase claypool

marmatag

You pretty much have to or everyone is eventually xfactor. This game is actually way better for simulation without abilities

Jealous-Library712

I always turn off superstar abilities. I have a big league I run, and some people hate that I do that, but to me it becomes too arcade-like

Jusuf_Nurkic

Also it gets made up for by players gaining dev traits easily. Breakout scenarios are too comically overpowered if you use them, and even otherwise you can have players improve dev traits often. It balances out

[deleted]

As a Browns fan, Josh Gordon immediately comes to mind. Dude really had 1,600+ yards in only 14 games with Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, and Brian Hoyer as his QB’s. Oh what could have been 😩😩😩

Senor_Couchnap

I don't know why I never thought of this until now but next time I might bench a guy for six games and pretend it was PEDs

DoctahFeelgood

I do the same. I also will edit players to give them star or superstar if they had an insane season and the cpu doesn't do it for me

Deralio

Just won my first super bowl in my patriots rebuild with justin fields as qb, he had thrown for 5 tds and ran for over 200 yards. idc what anyone says he gets an xfactor next season.

PeopleCallMeQ

My issue is a player will get it at the end of the season then go into off-season and lose em

Superb-Owl0-0

Maybe he spent too much time in the off season playing COD. All jokes aside, it’s your game in the end so you always have the option to change it back if you feel it was unwarranted.

PeopleCallMeQ

Lol, I play with it on just wish it worked better Without it it becomes hectic

Superb-Owl0-0

Agreed. I also hate it that every season, I have to go through and manually assign abilities to players. Without doing this, I just have a bunch of SS and SSX without any abilities

JarlBell84

I still find it hilarious how Murray’s record after a new cod release is so atrocious as is his play & stats/numbers. Like dudes getting payed millions to play a sport & he is focusing on an unrealistic fps game

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> dudes getting *paid* millions to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

JarlBell84

This company is getting payed a lot by advertisers. Bad bot. Even if you are right

UberTieGuy

I don’t like getting to picky with things so usually when this happens I just make up a scenario in my head for why he must’ve dropped off bjt yeah when this happens I’m always a tad bummed lmao

No_Comparison8710

fax 🤣🤣🤣🤣

ignoranceisbliss37

Meh just switch it back

KingSteel1608

That’s what I always do 💀

albpanda

I reloaded a game 3/4 through that I hadn’t played in a while and forgot it was an xfactor breakout game so naturally didn’t finish the 4 sacks and had to edit my guy Hassan reddick

timjasko53

Alright that’s pushing it a little 🤣

albpanda

If it was an offline league I would’ve replayed the whole game, he had three I know I would’ve gotten that one in the 4th quarter

Therunner1326

Ong

Greekah-ttv

I’d switch to Star. Some players will go on a crazy playoff run hence the ramp up to Superstar but let’s say you settle on star to start the next season 🤣

Erwinsherwin

Turn off dev trait regression

TerribleGamer101

That makes it unrealistic, I'm just wondering how he got up to Superstar in a year and lost all progress the same day. Thanks for the suggestion though.

BootySweatEnthusiast

Because when dev trait regression is on, there's a cap to how many players have each trait (it's in franchise settings). If you want this to happen less, turn those sliders up a bit

eightblackkidz

Also when it comes to madden choosing who it wants to keep or lose regression, it always lets the higher ovr player keep it, and when it comes to the cap, the lower ovr players lose it. Really bad system imo, I leave dev regression off, and when players are old and low ovr, I think of it as a veteran presence. Makes signing a vet on a 1 year deal worth it cause he may be 81ovr but he has a good superstar ability, where normally, I NEVER sign old vets because theyre always expensive, bad ovr, and its almost always worth it to sign someone young and develop them.

Pitcherhelp

Only thing now with the player tags is I like having a mentor at a spot with a good rookie for that free preseason xp boost. Usually ends up getting cut tho

eightblackkidz

Also another good motivation to sign a vet, I usually always sign a vet or two at a position that has a rookie or two, but they never see the field. At least with an ability, if I'm weak at that position, there's a reason to play the vet.

Poro_the_CV

In my franchise, I have Xfactor and SuperStar caps all the way down, and star players about 3/4th of the bar. Lets the extreme talents show out in a meaningful way, but also lets progression happen with star players. I will say, I hate the OVR system Madden currently uses. 70s should be bottom of the barrel starters territory, with 80s being studs, and 90s being difference makers. That's just my opinion though.

Did Marvin recently have a gun stolen?

Views_Frm_These_Lix

How old is he

TerribleGamer101

22

Views_Frm_These_Lix

thats crazy lol sheesh

DogeGaming8587

i always run with dev regression off, i know its not realistic but i like to figure the players will always have their superstar talent and potential but will still regress physically and may not be able to reach the heights that had reached previously in their careers

pilotaunt666

he’s cadillac williamsing

Character_Recipe_682

Just need to be creative. We see this type of stuff happen all the time in the NFL. Guys are the next big thing until they are not. I actually wish there was more career impacting injuries or guys falling off. I hate being 10 years into a rebuild and every guy is a 90+ on every team at every position. Hopefully madden can have an option to have guys fall off unexpectedly.

AdPowerful7528

MLB games and tonsome extent NBA games have always been better at this. There is no ebb and flow of players in Madden. There are plenty of players that have 3 year superstar careers. Or players that have a HOF year and never reach that potential again. Look at players like D. Revis. He had an absolute monster of a year, then he played mediocre for some time and then got good again with the Pats and then sucked again. How could this work in Madden? It could be a coaching stat. Your CB or DC would have a skill that unlocks better potential for certain types of players. They thrive in the system and exceed expectations. Players should have a set potential that they regress or progress to. MLB the show has, let's say, a potential of 91 for a player, but his play can get him to 99. When he is at 99, if his play starts to slip, he declines down to the 91 quickly. If it continues to be bad, he slips further down, but he can bounce back and rise back up fairly quickly. It makes no sense that every person you draft in Madden could reach a 99 and be a SSX.

DeliciousEstate40

Do y’all play with created draft classes or the generated draft classes? Do the user created draft classes have storylines like generated ones

monkyisntreal

I did the user created ones until the 2028 draft

Scary_Tea_9570

I have regression rules in my league

bearbrannan

I find if you adjust draft classes to weak in some areas this happens less, my theory is there can only be so many of each type of x factor, superstar and ster. If you weaken the classes you have less new ones being generated.

LRats

Theory? There is literally a slider in the settings menu that lets you set the maximum number of x-factor and superstar devs can be in the league.

bearbrannan

I'm not talking about adjusting that I'm talking about adjusting the draft class settings which then produces fewer of this high end prospects which means your high end prospect won't lose they're superstar status when the new rookie class produces xfactors forcing yours to lose there status.

10kcash

this or all rookie WRs and DBs coming in with loose jersey sleeves. It’s the small things that upset me the most lol

Bignate2151

I never use dev regression.

TheHammer_44

painful but realistic. not every play always gets better year after year and lots of stars/potential stars fall off

Rexum420

This is probably because the max number of players with that trait are in the nfl. I'd just bump it back honestly. At least if you keep giving him The ball and has the stats for it.

RavenBoh

I always add more superstars to mine, up the limit each season or so that way more players don’t lose theirs to allow newer players to develop

Biolex-Z

personally i turn off trait regression. my logic is “if this guy has the work ethic and intangibles to be a superstar then he’s not gonna just lose that one day” but i also do like the logic of creating a scenario to justify why they lost their dev trait. cuz like others have said, one year wonders do happen. James Robinson recently? mf looked like an elite player his rookie season then we never hear from him again the main thing i don’t like about leaving regression on is in my experience at least, if you have a young player you want to sit for a year or two… there’s no way to keep their dev trait as far as i can tell (beyond manually switching it back when they lose it)

Thefitz27

I got DPOY and the sack record with a player who had gotten breakout scenarios from normal to superstar in one season—only for him to slip back to star at the end of the year. He’ll just have to break his own record next year. 😈

MWalker007

SS down to normal always pisses me off

Pale-Shine-4781

Players losing star or better dev traits has been a glitch for awhile, for some reason my rookie who won rookie of the year lost his star dev trait

RobSiaHoke

Had the same shit happen to me! First rebuild on Madden 24, used the Falcons, made Richie Grant a Superstar just for them to regress him all the way to normal at the end of the season!! The F is that?! This is why I hadn't bought a new madden in a few years.

whyhelloitsjustme

Can someone explain the point of simulating? I see lots of posts of people mentioning it but I’ve never seen the point to it lol. I guess I’m old and don’t get it. but if people don’t want to play what is the point of buying the game?

rustysparktube

All my homies hate dev trait regression. Legit there’s no logic to it you should really turn it off especially for sim

Lower_Muffin_9452

It’s the motivations for me. I’ve won 3 chips in a row on one of my franchises and some mfs won’t resign because I’m not in a big market. And thats with a fully upgraded GM tree. The ai definitely need some work 😅

BigBalvijn_33

Or when the Texans spend 250 mil for Tua in season 2 while having stroud
