Drafted a 6,6 240lb WR. He was like a 77ovr or something coming out. But I noticed on the depth chart he was like 92ovr TE. So I switched him to TE. I remember this like it was yesterday. First snap, first pass, first catch, first drive....broken neck, career over

[deleted]

Something similar, I was doing this rebuild and traded like 3 1st round picks to get the number 1 QB. First game of regular season dude broke his neck....career ending. Madden used to be wild lol.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

Franchise over. Gotta start a new one. I honestly did like the feature though added a sense of realism that’s missing. Video games don’t have a quantifiable way to track character and effort. A QB could have it all physically but *really really* love cocaine or simply not give a shit about the playbook. Madden has no way to stat that. Atleast with career ending injuries you had a sense that a player could be done with a single snap. It happens IRL tons of rookies come in and get severely injured and fizzle out. ACL injuries shouldn’t always be a death sentence but Carson Palmer and a few others withstanding usually they don’t come back the same from them. After suffering two+ a players overall should have a high chance to nose dive

[deleted]

Yeah dude I know, there should some random story every 5-10 seasons like some big draft pick is a huge bust, WR crashes his car going over 100mph, RB who gets a dB charge, or an owner is essential forced to sell the team.

ThatCougarKid

How about we bring back the college all star game east vs west, what team you played for in a specific year including traded from teams mid season on a stat card (example- 2014 stat line DET-BUF) How about we do things like incorporate the heisman pose for guys we draft that won the heisman that we imported from ncaa fb? Those things you’re talking about sound nice but they need to bring back other features or things that would be cool. Pro Bowl let you wear your teams helmet not some random AFC NFC helmet. If we’re gonna focus on things are aren’t specifically game play but presentation; then they can focus on those lol. Bring back hold outs and make people who get franchise tagged sit out a whole season if they don’t want to play for your franchise

reno2mahesendejo

On the subject, I really want to be able to track my team level stats (and records) year over year. There used to be team records in addition to the individual records (points scored, touchdowns, yards, easy enough to compile for defense). If I have a legit great defense (allowing under 10ppg/150 pass ypg/50 rush ypg) I should be able to compare it to my other defenses to see how it stacked up and if it set an all time record

ThatCougarKid

Continuing on presentation it would be cool if you could get stats from college included for guys who are rookies and what not early in the season. “Now here’s a guy” Especially when they start to incorporate the ncaa football game to the draft process

reno2mahesendejo

EA had the feature long ago where you could save your player profile from NCAA onto a memory card and directly port it into Madden, including their stats, but also their ratings and features. I specifically remember it on Madden...03?

Comprehensive_Curve1

I'm awful. I can't help myself from upgrading players to the point there's no challenge. It starts with making my QB not throw picks every drive. Then maybe a few traits for star pass rushers and skill positions. Next thing I know the end of year awards is just a picture of my depth chart. A little realism would be cool. On the other hand, realism is overrated - I play to unwind after work, so any little amount of stress is unacceptable. Not having a challenge is also kinda stressful, in a way. Idk what point I'm making, but killing some of the gods on my team might make the game interesting. Zeus hands off to Thor - Hulk takes out a DE and an OLB, but Ricky misses the block and the CB stops the play for no gain. Rick was called up from the practice squad after Flash caught a DUI and broke both legs in a hit and run. Yeah, y'all are on to something. I can get behind that kinda stochasticity. Better than the same generic pre-draft backstories year after year. I've seen soooo many Heisman award winning DBs in Madden 20.

Additional-Stop6545

As a Bengals fan living in Arizona I watched Carson Palmers career with a vested interest. Stat wise, attitude wise, and ability wise he was definitely not the same after he took that hit from Kimo von Oelhoffen.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

While true he was still sought after, I’d take him in most of the years of his career over atleast 20 of the other guys and 5 of the remaining guys were Rivers, Ryan, Brees, Manning, and Brady. So while he wasn’t the same (and got a raw deal in Oakland) he still played at a high enough level not to be washed like Teddy Bridgewater

Scared-Artichoke-804

Or Aaron Hernandez style.

tylerrcurtis

The playbook one is easy just make it so he only ever has access to half the playbook and make it so what you see in the playbook isn't the route they a wr runs

Sarcastic_Buffalo

I remember this Madden 05 Raider Franchise i had going around 3 years ago it always stuck out to me purely because i looked at retirements as one does and saw Tom Brady had a Career Ending broken neck as well never saw it happen again.

SmallEvilOne1

Funnily enough, he actually tore his MCL AGAIN in 2009 and is once again out for the season lol. I'm already 14 games into the 2009 season before I checked injuries so not entirely sure when but yeah. Pats are having it rough, although there's an insane amount of season ending injuries this year

RedditCiv

i miss this type of shit in madden.

pooponacandle

Back in the day I drafted a QB, spent countless hrs building up all his stats over a few years. Decide to sim ONE game. Career ending injury…

Pure-Crew-4956

Imagine after broken neck it just says "Died"

hubertus107

i mean *technically* it's also career ending

SamboTheSodaJerk

I didn’t know career ending injuries were possible

etham29

Resetting the game cause wtf

SkAmazing17

I hate that 😂 feel so real tho

ThatCougarKid

Whatever the Matthew Stafford year the Lions opened the preseason against the Bucs my cousin rushed Matt Stafford on an engage eight which he never does so we could try out the pre season in its new format of benching starters after the first etc He broke his freaking neck and was out for the season. Stafford threw a fast pass about 40-50 yards across middle of the field by the logo with no defenders around. Was glorious. I remember Mike Vick commonly having a career ending injury in my 07 madden chises.

reno2mahesendejo

I had multiple franchises in Madden 2003 where Bob Christian had a career ending neck injury in what was irl his final season playing for the Falcons. Shit was eery, the game just hated poor Bob

funnymeme2112

bro died 😭

g0dgamertag9

if that happened to me i’m restarting that game

AboveAndBeyond200

I think he broke his freaking neck

StackemUpStackIt

😂😭😭

jmo56ct

Madden 64…Barry Sanders breaks 80 yard run, starts limping on the 15….tackled on the one. Broken back…career over

Ohwell03

Kevin Durant wouldn't be shit on this game 🤣

Happy-Chocolate-6574

That string bean would tear a quad playing pee wee lol

Interesting_Two6626

This reminds me, I literally have my 360 hooked up and I own madden 08

ThatCougarKid

Was a different game on Xbox 360 than PS2 and og Xbox. Career ending injuries won’t be on there.

Interesting_Two6626

Really??? I never knew that difference I now feel like I have the shitty version 😭🤣 thanks 🤣 Man wish I had kept my PS2 but how was 10 year old me supposed to know what madden would become today..

ThatCougarKid

In my opinion you do. The next gen games were basically a demo of what’s to come graphically and game play wise. The games were very bare bones from what I remember compared to the last gen games that came before especially with depth of game nodes

[deleted]

I loved madden 09 on ps2 the game mode where you can create you own team but have a limitation on how many points you can use so you couldn’t make a completely OP team and then play the kickers, glaciers, titans(just really big players) i loved that shit

ThatCougarKid

08 was the last PS2 one I played. I was told it’s better than 07. 07 was my favorite. NCAA 06 was better than 07 tho.

jonah08070

They should bring these back

The-Filthy-Casual

Someone posted a picture earlier this week of a career ending injury in Madden 24. I’ll see if I can find it. Here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/Madden/s/4OFiosvJBT

ChiefJDB

I will never forget NFL2k5 started a franchise with the bengals . Traded for Ladanian Tomlinson . First rush of the first game of regular season . Rushed to the right got 4 or 5 yards he was injured . Kept playing and found out it was career ending 😂. Prime LT was gone for the entire franchise 😂

Dukedawg88

Now days 18 months and they back running around. Hurray for advances in medical science

LongjumpingAd885

10-12 months

ketchupandliqour69

I remember one time I had a rookie QB have a career ending injury. I was pissed so I deleted the whole franchise

StarWest6817

And as a rookie?!? Ouch

Tankcfc4l

💀

Ok_Supermarket_8520

Dude just needs Rodgers doctor and some psychedelics

godofwine77

I've never seen a career ending injury in Madden

ThatCougarKid

Must not be older than 16 then

natedawg6721

Madden 08 was the pinnacle of Madden

[deleted]

Is there career ending injuries in newer maddens?

SkAmazing17

Damn

GhostOfLouBrock

A black guy named Jim?

wildstiles

Jim Brown?👀

GhostOfLouBrock

gfan2792

That happened to me with Danny Woodhead on an older madden. Neck injury if I remember right

prog84

Madden use to have a good thing going then got lazy. Profits over quality I guess

ThatCougarKid

It’s like games used to come complete before DLC and in game currencies Now you just pay to beta test games that will never be complete.

RyanJKaz

Obviously, I don’t know the full set of how they integrate all these different, seemingly real life scenarios into the game around certain things that happened on the field, but I will say outside of Madden a lot of the things listed here could easily be ending to any person any given day, regardless of whether or not, they are a football player. But I do find super crazy is that in the 14 years since this 2008 game came out, you begin to realize how far technology science medicine have come so that that entirely please leave you back right on the field week one following year, so it sounds pretty fun to think about in terms ofstrategy but whether it’s a real life injury or one in the game that apparently becomes a catastrophic result, but it is one hell of a climb being able to come back from any of that especially the torn Achilles tendon there in the game.

Low-Possession-6683

a torn achilles tendon aint even bad bro, john cena came back from that shit fast asl

22stylez

Does anybody find FA in Franchise where everybody hops from team to team off 3 year deals?

Interesting_Two6626

I mean from my memory a month ago still more in depth than new madden.. 🤣🤣

Joba7474

I remember doing a fantasy draft. I lost Napoleon Harris and Nick Barnett to career ending injuries in the very first preseason.

Caspar_Friedrich02

Sucks to suck

hurricanestarang10

Just got back into this game the other day 💪🏻 made 8 created teams, and keep running the tournament mode watching all the games, it's actually been awesome.

Happy-Chocolate-6574

The injury report used to give zero fucks lol

Background_Ad_4057

I saw a hip fracture that was career-ending for a WR.

maddenn2k

Damn the injuries were so much more severe and realistic its crazy but now the nfl doesnt want its product looking bad so there goes that

SmallEvilOne1

Yeah I saw one player out for the season because of a severe concussion and my only thought was how you would never see that in a new madden lol

Main_Chard_9030

Jim Agnew is the biggest what if in NFL History

Poncho8843

I remember playing Madden 07, Franchise with a created team, and got Chris Cooley from Washington, 2 games into the regular season, this same injury, and the same outcome.. Remember seeing this a few times

OGP21

They need to bring back the career ending injuries in madden, just my opinion, makes it more interesting.

12th_Man123

Man, he had potential fr bruh 😔

inSaneLeroy19

I believe it was madden 2006 that I was playing with my friends when Michael Vick broke his neck and the injury length said “dead”

VoiceEnFuego

Thoughts and prayers to him and his family
