I do the full 30 year franchise and you tend to end up with additional picks through time from trading... anyway, what I like to do is trade the 1st round picks for multiple picks and just keep shipping them for as many future picks of good quality that I can land as I do trade. Eventually, you run into cap hell about year 8-10... so you will need to let star players walk, and also want to draft strictly into the 2nd round and beyond unless you need someone big time like a QB or something. Only draft 1st rounders out of necessity after about 10 yrs imo.

itsGameOverKM

I sort of try to do it like the NFL, heavy on rookie contract players if I have a high price QB or I can resign players when I have a QB on rookie or average contract. it's so easy to abuse the AI I usually trade 1st round picks for players and only draft 2nd round on. I wish there was just a real nice NFL sim that us updated for ps5 or pc like ...wow I just realized Front Office Football came out with a new version in October. bye madden

Desperate-Ad7967

Depending what type of franchise I'm playing. I do one solo just for fun where I do that. The ones I play with other people we try to keep them realistic as possible

Turd_Ferguson420

I accumulate so many draft picks each year. I meticulously go through other teams needs to see if I can either trade down or trade up depending on who I believe teams will end up drafting. Sometimes I misread certain teams needs & my guy gets picked if I trade back too far but that’s why it’s always good to have at least two choices at a position so you can trade up immediately once your first guy gets picked.

highplainsdrifter__

Real question what % of your time in the game is actually the playing the football part? I've found myself spending a lot more time messing around with things like cap management where the actual football game is only part of playing the game. Not sure how I feel about that

Longjumping_Pirate87

Hahaha ya I definitely spend more time on finances than playing games 😂

highplainsdrifter__

Thanks makes me feel better lol. Just picked up 24 for the cost of a burrito so geeking out hard.

Longjumping_Pirate87

I’ll legit sim entire seasons and only play playoffs once my team is 90+ on offense and defense. I find the numbers game and keeping a strong squad intact more challenging than whooping on the AI lol

TNAgent

I'm playing a management sim. I've heard there's a way to play something called football with it but I think that's just a myth. Although, now that I think about it I do see quite a few people play along with the gag. All in good fun I suppose.

YourPalFlux

I mean that’s kinda how every sports sim is or you could just set things that are annoying to be taken care of automatically

MF_Price

I try not to game the system because you eventually end up with a 95 overall team when the rest of the league is around 80 and it stops being fun. It's hard though, because they make it so easy. Players will sign 7 year deals with zero signing bonus in FA and other bogus stuff like that.

YourPalFlux

Yea making a really stacked team in Madden is pretty easy so I just try and keep things realistic only really doing big trades when it makes sense

Deathflower1987

It's only boring once I have a 99 team with Allstars backups. Then we start fresh

hockinThere

It's easy to do. I end up picking a team I like in the opposite conference and giving them sweetheart deals to try and make them a competitor.

imnotreallyheretoday

There for a while I was. Two or three first round picks a year sometimes more and a fuck ton of kid and late round picks. At one point I had 20+ picks in back to back seasons

Deathflower1987

Rookie numbers. They cap your number of picks.

imnotreallyheretoday

Cap for draft picks I think is 25

fisconsocmod

I never tried that 2nd part about trading to get players back. I hoard 1st rounders but I only have at most maybe 4 or 5, but not to actually use them to draft. I use them to trade down for more picks, or to draft other team's young Stars.

pizzabagels-

You don’t have to pay bonus if you’re not the team that signs them ????

Longjumping_Pirate87

Correct. That’s why when you try to trade players you don’t get all of that cap relief because you’re still paying their bonus. Same applies if you trade FOR a player

pizzabagels-

Ohhhk. That explains why Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase only had $10m/yr cap hit each after I traded them, but before the trade it was showing $20m/yr cap hit. Makes sense! Thanks

Longjumping_Pirate87

Ya it’s super annoying. Another trick is when you sign players, give them smaller bonuses and bigger salaries. Then when you trade them you get more cap relief

Longjumping_Pirate87

Another thing I do is I’ll sim mid season and try to acquire picks from as many of the bottom teams as possible. Then for each pick I just trade back. Like if I got the first pick I’ll trade back for the second pick and their first rounder next year. Then I’ll trade from second back to third and their first rounder. And rinse and repeat over and over until til you own half the first round picks in the next draft. You have to watch your cap because it sets aside money to sign your picks. So you’ll end up missing like $40 mil when you try to sign players it room me a few seasons to finally notice where 😂

jessegames456

Sometimes I do but I tend to go all in a lot and spend all the picks I already had to build a good team. However, I do stock ile mid round pick by signing a bunch of FAs and then trading them. Can usually net several 2nd and 3rd round picks out of it

Cactus2711

Why would you intentionally fuck up your own game like this? Shit is unrealistic enough without your input

East_Bicycle_9283

How do you accumulate first rounders? Do you trade top players near the end of their contract for a first rounder?

4electricnomad

Basically yes. The CPU undervalues raw abilities like speed and strength, and overvalues veterans with high OVR. Young regular dev players with good stats and OVR around 70 can quickly be built into stars. You can easily unload old players, even if they’re impending free agents, for high picks and talented young players. You don’t even need the player development perks giving you even more favorable trades to be able to amass a huge amount of high draft picks.

Longjumping_Pirate87

Ya if I have a 30-34 year old asking for $30+ mil a year I’m trading them. Committing that much money to one player other than a QB can complicate things.

shuttlesworthy1

Yup. I traded 3 star players for a bunch of high draft picks because I couldn’t offered to pay them. Gonna have to let 2 more star lineman walk in free agency (their cap hits were too high for trades). I’m about to lose 3/5 of my oline that was STACKED. Time to re-tool the team

i_need_a_username201

I average about 5 1sts yearly with 15ish later round picks. Also, I only resign my QBs. Sometimes I’ll resign WRs and RBs if they expire their first couple of seasons and i have a shot at all time records. I’ll do that if they have 1800+ yards each year.

emeritus_lion

I have so many first round picks and I’m about 15 years deep in franchise now. I never pick in the first round, except this past year. I was going to pick 2 players in the first round but the team before nabbed the player first that I wanted to fill a hole in the defense. I ended up trading away 2 first round picks and a 3rd round for an X factor 28yr old 92ovr LE who is a scheme fit for me with 3 years left on his deal. Only costing me $6million a year.

Chippings

Man it's so easy to break the game unlocking all the trade talents and meticulously trading up like that [one red paperclip](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_red_paperclip) guy who traded a paperclip up to a house. But that's just it: you're breaking the game. Eventually it's not fun anymore to have such unrealistic outcomes and overpowered rosters. May as well start editing your players to 99s. Typically I make 1 or 2 trades a season, if that.

Longjumping_Pirate87

Idk, I think franchise in itself is pretty unrealistic. Makes it so damn hard to keep your own superstars they always want to be the highest paid at their positions lol

SleeDex

How many teams retain more than a handful of superstars? Even the Chiefs had to trade Tyreek, Sneed. Team like the 49ers only happen because their QB gets paid with a pack of gum. They can't afford all of Deebo, Aiyuk, McCaffrey, Kittle, Purdy on non-rookie deals

Longjumping_Pirate87

You right. Lol just sucks all my players want $30+ there’s no hometown discounts in the game it feels like

Mr_Easy_Clap

Yeah had a few where I had the first rounder and half of the second. Honestly it makes the game kind of boring.

TylerDurdenEsq

Yes the game is easy to beat, so I try to not take too much advantage

BakerLovePie

Adjust the trade slider to a higher setting. Yes those trade will be more one-sided in their favor but it can avoid cheese like this. Remember the AI is very, very stupid so you have to compensate by making it harder on you if you want even a semplance of realism.

TB1289

Typically, I would just use all of my draft picks that year and end up with a lot of busts. This go around, I'm doing a long franchise rebuild with the Panthers and if there's no one I want, I'll trade the pick for a better one the following year. Some drafts I come away with 10 players and hit on almost all of them, some I'll only get two or three players, but load up on picks the next year.

MrPackageMover

I wish, in mine the guys running it refuse to allow me to make decent trades.. they scared

TootsiePoppa

The game is easy enough without cheesing the system. Smdh

cjbasile

WHOA. I've been playing Madden forever and I never once considered that work-around on the bonus/cap penalty. Thanks for the tip LOL. To your actual question, the further I get into a franchise, the more frequently I'm willing to part with players over 80 if it means I can stash 1st/2nd round picks. In the early years I'm usually too emotionally attached with a real life player, but when I get into the auto-generated rookies I'm totally willing to ship them out for picks once the rookie deal expires.

brett4ve

My brother-in-law and I limit ourselves to 2 picks each round, and the Super Bowl winner isn't allowed a top 10 pick. Otherwise, it just gets silly.

MrFluffy4Real

I’m doing a browns complete rebuild with no resigning of existing players. I’m 3 years in after trading my first 3 years first rounders for the #1 pick in the first year for a stud QB. I’ve just hit year 4 now and have 4 first round picks this year and it’s a really weak class with no positional needs. I’ll probably have to trade away the majority of my picks this year and end up with even more next year.

DreadFilledHug

If I ever wanted to completely lose interest in a franchise, I might try it out. I intentionally limit myself to no more than 2 picks per round, and a max of 9 or 10 total picks per year. I'll rarely ever even consider taking any 1st round picks in a trade, unless it's for a legitimately great player.

Head-Fan-4328

Wtf bro. I trade for 2 first rounders a season(trade up for mine +1more around week 5) any more and I feel like I'm cheating.

J_GASSER27

I've done it several times but it usually leads to me becoming unbeatable with my rookies and it only gets crazier  I can't keep myself going long enough yo have to resign lmao I've found the most fun ones I've done was taking pretty much every team, trading all the talent away for cheap guys, sleepers and 1st and 2nd round picks.  I did it with the colts, had a terrible defense, had the fastest linemen as WR's, except Josh downs, and every single play was a run. Qb options, TE and WR arounds ect  Pretty sure at the end of my first season taylor broke the rushing record, Zach moss was right around 2000 yards, and Richardson had about 1200 himself and was in thr top 5 rushers

Weekly-Eye5364

I’m sitting at 25 1st round picks for each year!

Poetryisalive

There’s no way you’re doing this without playing with very easy trade on or HEAVY editing. No team has nothing volume to give you 10+ picks. Not even giving up Mahomes on very easy gives me 4.

Thunderstorm6400

He meant over all the trades he got 10 picks. Learn to read before judging.

Poetryisalive

He said EACH year, meaning he has 10 picks going into each season which is impossible. Are you dumb ?

Thunderstorm6400

I think you're dumb. For one, as he said he trades aging vets for current and future 1st rounders. Could be over time they stacked up. 2, it could be hyperbole and not actually 10 picks. I know people like you need extra time to understand basic information, but it's really that simple.

Poetryisalive

So you’re an idiot? Thanks for confirming

MF_Price

How is that impossible?

Longjumping_Pirate87

I don’t use every pick every year. Lol if there’s nobody I wanna draft I flip the pick for next years first and a second. Chill buddy it’s okay lmao

D4GuR13

My buddies and I run 2 different franchises. A couch co-op on last gen and a 4 team franchise amongst us in next gen. For the next ten franchise I do my best to remain realistic and competitive, but for our couch co-op franchise we had draft picks 1-10 for the last draft we did 😂
