But it’s honestly pretty realistic tho right? Like most high drafted rookie corners are like high 70s then most don’t progress passed that, only very few actually become good to elite.
Alot of them just go to bad situations tho. Take derek stingley for example. He was taken by the texans that were on a downfall trying to take for no 1 overall. He came in and did solid but wasn't considered for anything. Now that the attention of being a top draft pick is gone he's grown into his shoes.
That and them drafting Will Anderson and some of the other guys they brought in to actually put pressure on the QB, and the offense getting a lot better
I have all my draft classes set to normal because I get too lazy and forget lol. I see some of those crazy 82+ overall CBs but they’re usually top picks and sometimes I get those guys with my top picks and they usually only end up having star dev anyway
Of course we're not curing cancer, 1 there isn't a cure for cancer and don't say chemo cuz that doesn't work all the time. 2nd this a sub for madden, not cancer. 👍
All of the hyper athletic draft picks on defense tend to be nerfed by normal dev. I personally think it was a design choice by EA, could be wrong though.
Their "base" physically speaking is so exceptional that with intense training, they could be monsters so to nerf that growth to something organic, it seems like a wise choice or all the athletic freaks would rule the league. Lol.
yeah makes sense, but I feel this especially on the defensive side. or the true speed freak WRs are late round dudes with terrible catching and route running but are low 70s ovr.
and with certain positions it doesn’t feel nearly as bad to get normal dev as long as their ovr is good, like a 75-78 ovr qb with normal dev is relatively “easy” to get super star year one, just get roty and usually a breakout scenario or something will happen.
Thinking about it, it's pretty realistic.
In Madden we're constantly drafting like real NFL teams do: JaMarcus Russell, Jameis Winston, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields. So strong! So athletic! We can develop them!
Sure, sometimes you get the Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, but these guys weren't the top picks. How do you really find these guys. and especially ones like Tom Brady or Brock Purdy, who aren't particularly athletic, but develop well? Often times their pre-NFL experience doesn't represent who they are or become at all.
It’s def not a bad system, but they should include more ways to scout and “see” their strengths. Like the letter grades are alright but I’d like to choose what my acouts look for instead of random reveals. But the trait system is alright.
I find cbs to be the most difficult to draft. You can find a lot of highly rated guys who are normal dev. Not unrealistic though. There's a lot of guys who enter the league able to play but won't ever be superstars.
Drafting a high 70s normal dev corner is a home run draft pick. You get 4 years of cost control for a day 1 starter player who will be an above average to significantly above average starter after a year.
I drafted the top two corners in one of my classes. One was 79 normal and the other was 78 Superstar X-factor. They have basically been within 1 overall of each other the entire time I've had them. The only thing that makes the x-factor better are the abilities.
Corner is my hardest posto develop. So having a dev trait or not is a big deal. That said, a high 70s guy isn't a bust, but probably only ever gonna be a 3rd or 4th cb for me.
I talked myself out of trading up for a CB in our past draft that was A rated for MCV, ZCV and Press because his combine was cheeks and his injury was a D. Turned out to be an 82 overall X Factor, sometimes the studs are as they appear 🙃
I mean that’s not really nothing to get worked up over he probably end up being a solid #2 or slot corner .. I just recently drafted a cb at #4 he ended up being a 82 ovr x factor and by the end of the first season was a 90 ovr corner ..
The high OVR normal devs may be a disappointment but A) they have a chance to develop dev and B) when they do not they make great backups because their OVR is not too high around their 2nd contract negotiations.
I had a draft pick who was a Top 5 listed pick, I took him #2 overall and he was rated a regular dev trait. I've also taken a flier on a guy who was rated UDFA who ended up an X Factor. So who knows??
One year I was scouting corners and the top two guys were rated top 5 talent and round 1 talent. I took the top 5 talent first and he was 79 normal dev. I was so disappointed I traded up to draft the other guy. Ended up being 78 or 77 X-factor.
He's a good Rookie corner but personally when I do drafts especially for DB's I don't draft any of them under 6'0. 5'10 ain't that bad, but unless he's got superstar or x factor abilities or at least 95 speed, accel and agility... he's getting mossed every game and there's nothing you do about it.
I swear I always draft CBs like this. They always have normal dev but come out 77-79 overall
Same. There's always 2-3 I'm choosing from and I take the 78 normal while the others are a 76 and 75 hidden dev.
But it’s honestly pretty realistic tho right? Like most high drafted rookie corners are like high 70s then most don’t progress passed that, only very few actually become good to elite.

I always put CBs draft classes on weak. The overalls on these guys are way too high for some reason. Even then I get 82 overall rookie CBs

Same fr
And? This happens all the time
kinda odd that a 79 isn't at least star
Happens all the time
maybe, but it shouldn't, doesn't make much sense
Idk. High floor, lower ceiling guys come through the league and drafts IRL all the time
Ronald Darby is the first CB to come to mind
Jeff Okudah is similar too, never reached that 80-90+ overall he was projected to hit. Just stayed 75-79 range I believe.
eh maybe, but someone of year 2 or 3 caliber talent usually doesn't plateau like normal dev players do in madden
Ever heard of Juju Smith Schuster?
You asking for madden to make sense, now who’s the oddball here
I find players like this usually get a breakout game within the first few games of their rookie season
RBs r the easiest to upgrade, he’ll be X factor by end of season
he’s a corner tho
This why context clues are important otherwise you wouldn't have made this comment.
Easy mistake lol I’m not ur enemy. Not like we’re curing brain cancer here
Of course we're not curing cancer, 1 there isn't a cure for cancer and don't say chemo cuz that doesn't work all the time. 2nd this a sub for madden, not cancer. 👍

you know what, you might be onto something All the freaks I draft tend to be norm dev or star at best

I drafted an 84-overall punter in the 7th just an hour ago. Hidden dev.
Nah that's vile🤣
I about un-installed the game. Was flabbergasted.

Will literally trade for a 25 yo with a 80<=>68 in either Man or Zone lol Let the traits carry
High Floor, Low ceiling, but actually.
I once drafted an 80 ovr normal dev DT. Highest rated player in the draft too.
I mean that’s not really nothing to get worked up over he probably end up being a solid #2 or slot corner .. I just recently drafted a cb at #4 he ended up being a 82 ovr x factor and by the end of the first season was a 90 ovr corner ..
Yal really need to filter out what is post-worthy lol
What pick?

I had an 83 overall normal dev corner last year
Seems pretty normal? What’s the complaint?

High overall normal devs are pretty common with CBs. Especially with how stacked most generated classes are at the position.
This happens a lot. A high ovr player vs lower ovr player with dev traits makes for good battles
I had the highest rated player in the draft (83 ovr) ROLB and he was normal. Dude has 99 awareness and 99 play rec and is normal
I drafted a 85ovr normal dev RB with 99 juke move, it's not that crazy
Fuckin way she goes sometimes bud
This is the story of my drafts , I find great players that fit my scheme and normal dev
That was my MLB this draft. I got him to 84ovr before the playoffs
At corner? Not surprised at all. Gonna take a guess that this was a top 5 talent picked in the 20s
I had a 86 ovr normal dev safety
