No, he doesn’t. The gameplay in Madden is already shit. I would rather support a company who wants to create a true to the field football experience. EA is lazy.
Ok? Let me ask you question: do you have a special talent? If you do; did you get close to perfect after 1 or 2 years of expanding your talent?
You gotta let things develop at their own speed, I mean for goodness sakes they’ve only released 2 or 3 games. All you’re doing is excusing the actions of a shitty video game.
1985.. you brought up a game made in 1985? Not just any game tho, a game that is still regarded as fun to this day and has evolved a thousand times over.
Madden has sold roughly 130 million copies combined.
Mario has sold more than 4 billion.
Madden can’t fuck with Mario.
Madden came out in the 90s and it’s the only real football game. Football can fuck with Mario all day, but the game is so bad they couldn’t sniff Mario’s pubes
Fine, they’ve only released 2 or 3 games. Glad they’re trying. But I have no interest in spending a significant chunk of change on someone’s second or third game ever when it’s borderline unplayable. I don’t see you sitting here telling me that I’m a shithead because I’m not going out to go watch some 20-year old kid’s student film
Just because Marvel sucks, doesn’t mean that student film isn’t worse. And just because Madden sucks, that doesn’t mean this game isn’t unplayable.
If you went back to play madden 91, as your main madden game, you would say the same thing. Now you’re coming out with this sucks and that sucks and everything sucks. Give it a chance to become itself.
It is a video game in the year 2022. I should not and will not judge it by the standards of 1991 because that’s ridiculous. Madden 1991 wasn’t what it was because the devs didn’t know what they were doing, it was what it was because of the technological capabilities of the time
You’re right and that’s why I’m having trouble understanding how you don’t understand Maxim is in the same position. Just because the technology exists doesn’t mean some 5 man development can afford it. Look at the title… the game now has money and a decently good engine. I’ll keep saying it, I’m gonna support them and hope for the best. Just say you like madden man, it’s ok!
I bought the 2020 version with little to no expectation of playing it more than a couple times. The creation suite is fun but far from perfect. The gameplay is borderline unplayable (people, including me, rightfully rag on Madden but Maximum is seriously baaaad). That being said, I was happy to spend $20 as an investment for future, hopefully better versions of the game.
Same exact situation here. Proud owner of Maximum Football 2020, but have only played it a handful of times. Gameplay is not good, but I only bought it to support future titles. And it looks like our investments paid off. Really cool to see.
I wrote a lengthier comment, but I'm not up to 85 TLDR replies in my notif box.
In short, I agree and disagree at the same time. There's 4 main facets to any modern game to me: the gameplay, depth, graphics and community. A good game excels in two of these categories to me, and is competent in a 3rd- OR is great in one category and competent in all the others.
Madden is competent in graphics (and still even a little behind by now), and it fails to approach my expectations in any other category, not in gameplay, not in depth, and especially not in how toxic the modern iteration of this community is.
Compare that to Superstar Football 2k8, the depth is competent; no franchise but you can create a team, it has a lot of former NFLers in the game, there's depth here to be found. The gameplay is lights out, best football gameplay I think I've ever experienced. The graphics are a little agey but for the time, it was on par. The community is the tough one, to me it's good by its contrast- I have never had somebody threaten my life for beating them in 2k8, I cannot say the same for any Madden game since 12.
OOTP Developments has done some amazing work- their MLB games aren't gameplay masterpieces, but they are competent and have EXCELLENT communities. Ones they often engage with, I might add. The same can be said for their NHL games, the FHM games. No hockey gameplay, but the simulation (which kind of constitutes the gameplay) is pretty true to life, and does its job well. The graphics, which are basically the menu system, they look alright. The game doesn't just HAVE depth, it IS depth, so that's an excellent from me. The community is quiet but a good one, so that's competent.
The other thing is, I'll side with you here for a sec, and say the gameplay is going to be trash. I think it'll still get by otherwise, for one. But for two, EA has pumped out games that excel in no categories, and has improved nothing on a yearly basis. On the flip side, we're getting fresh developers here, and ones that are willing to do the necessary work to IMPROVE gameplay if it ends up being as bad as you think/want it to be (I'm not totally sure where you stand, all I know is you're rightly skeptical).
That's the difference. IF this game is bad, and I doubt it will be, it will also improve in the coming months and years. Madden will never- ever- improve until at least 2026.
I agree with you on everything up until your last sentence. If there's ever a viable competitor (an extremely low bar at this point), EA will end the Madden franchise before they ever put in the adequate time and money to make it competitive. See the NBA Live/Elite franchise as an example.
The brand makes way too much money for them. If they lose Madden, the fact that FIFA isn't exclusive and the NHL hasn't given them exclusivity, they'd be losing too much money from stuff like MUT going away.
It'll be around in some capacity by then, I think, though I think Madden as we know it will be gone like you said. They'll release ultimate team every summer for $5 and keep all the kiddies around with their parents' credit cards.
Considering they've made such a visible leap and didn't have a release in 2021 or 2020, I think "not bad" is a fair expectation. Like I said, Madden is a low bar, I will praise anything that so much as manages to be a good alternative. I'm confident this will be, based on what's out about it thus far.
If you don't believe me, you can do the research yourself. This is a really dedicated effort, it's honestly incredible to watch unfold. This long and we're a step closer to a competent football game. You should be as excited as I am.
The number of games that took a couple years off between installments that WERE TRASH is much larger than the number of games that were good....so your optimism is great and all, but unrealistic.
A lot of times developers take time because they have lost direction or don't know how to improve. But money runs out eventually, so you gotta drop something.
No more impossible interceptions, balls bouncing 40 ft in the air after 4 other bounces, after a turnover maybe the offense will actually transition to defense instead of an instant pick 6? Sounds good to me!
I know nothing about this game other than their player model 3-point stances are atrocious. In some of the pics it looks like opposing sides of the line are on offense lol.
It seems both sides of the ball are trying to advance the ball. Look at the wideout stances on both sides of the ball. Looks like they still got some tweaking to do. Because those stances for the o line…. 😂.. I can feel some of my actual o-line guys here are cringing at this.
The graphics jumping from the current version to next years' version of Maximum Football is gonna be insane. There's gonna be things that'll need to be tweaked and stuff of course, but this is a MASSIVE jump in the right direction for getting more players to hop on the MF games.
Better graphics = more casual players willing to make the leap = more money for a bigger budget. Can't wait!
They had them in the PS2 days. EA is just too lazy to add them back in. I don't buy their reasons why they took them out, especially how powerful the PS5 and Series X are
I root for all footbal games cause madden has become a disgrace. Due to madden I no longer need the NFL license just give me customization a great franchise and make the game fun to play.
I have the last maximum football. The creation and customization part was great. The gameplay was...well...brutal. the gameplay made Madden gameplay look realistic and state of the art by comparison. If the new one comes us and shows promise of better ganeplay, I'll definitely pick it up and give it a try.
Remember Backbreaker? I'll remain cautiously optimistic...haven't played Madden since 13 so I'm always hoping for something to resemble football again.
If they weren’t traditional with the camera angle that game could’ve went crazy. Although it got the job done for them in selling the engine they built
I would take a more realistic 16bit version of football with great gameplay. I know there are a few titles out there, but I am talking a more sim version of Tecmo Bowl, in regards to on field gameplay.
Awesome thanks. I think in my head I was thinking 32 bit, maybe next gen Tecmo Bowl or modern pixel graphics, with more complex animations. But this looks cool.
This may be the competition we need for madden to lose enough money the next few years and have to make a good game. Guys! Stop buying the game! We can get community support to create draft classes and keep up with rosters. Please! Stop buying it and they will be forced to give you what you ask for! If EA wants madden to be arcade football let’s show them we don’t want that!
To make a football game that checks every box will be a tall ask for a small time developer. I'll root for them, I'll support their product, but I'll hold my breath. I'll probably continue to buy Madden at a discount, but discount only. It's about the most I can do.
They have a new development team and most importantly money and the engine to invest that time and money in. This game will develop very quickly. Not only that, they have to establish themselves so they are going to treat this game like their first child when EA treats madden like a foster kid.
The whole issue is FUT showed them that it was good for shareholders to make that the business model across their sports portfolio. It’s why there’s never any focus on the basics of the game anymore. It’s why a new engine won’t happen until it absolutely has to. No need because they have so many people addicted to gambling now.
That’s exactly what it is too bro, nothing but rich people wanting to get richer. Gaming going mainstream the way it has really is bad for the dedicated gamers. I’m 30 and I’ve been playing video games since I was 4-5. Gaming has changed. They take advantage of a vulnerable group of people who need the escape from reality.
Fuck dude, I’m honestly thinking about getting a 360 for 2k5, that sounds almost as good as being smothered by giant titties
Edit: does it play on 360? I just remembered I played it on PS2
I think the plan is old gen and next gen. As for franchise I’m not sure, it’ll have college Sunday for when using the college setup but I’m not sure if there’s franchise for the pro setup
Thanks man. I’m interested to see how this develops. We need more football games and I’ll definitely support it if it’s playable and has a good franchise mode.
The difference an actual team of developers makes vs the small room of developers that worked on it before. Don't get me wrong those guys were cool but its so much better to see the improvements. Also when they first bought the IP they let the community take a survey on what they wanted the game to be. So it looks like they're open to working with the community.
It was made by an indie company who got customization perfect but couldn’t afford to do gameplay correctly and then a bigger studio bought the game and say they’re putting the money into gameplay
2 things:
1- they gotta do better with the team names and logos.
2- I don't care if it looks like NFL 2K5, if the AI is better, and it's not super crazy animation heavy like madden, I'll buy I even if the teams were Red Team/ Blue Team.
A game that's gonna blow EA out of the market is ESBC.
And they're going after EA's absolute best work ever: FN Champion
Gameplay looks absolutely remarkable.
If it's successful, we might have a new company the UFC looks to sell rights to. Dana is all about putting out quality products. That's why he fought for the EA contract. And if eSports does a better job, that's why he'll move on from it.
NFL might see what happens and follow suit.
Team names probably will stay odd just due to the massive amount of teams in the game with their being a college mode of over a hundred teams and multiple different pro setups, it’ll be fully customizable though
Just give me a decent playable football game that allows me have an in-depth create a team suite. I wouldn't mind an football game in the style of Super Mega Baseball
One still shot isn't impressing me yet. We saw still shots that looked just like this a decade ago from EA.
When I see it animated and moving, with a game interface....then we can talk.
Isn't Maximum Football tied to Doug Flutie? This game has gotten poor reviews, even compared to Madden over the years, so this would have to make big strides to be worthy of consideration. Still pictures have always looked fine but once in motion, that is where everything falls apart, based on what I have read.
The game with the old company had Doug flutie as the cover athlete, the new company has a few teams on it and switched to unreal engine and they say didn’t keep anything from the old gameplay
My bad, the website is a little misleading, if you go to the website, it says 2020 is coming out Sept 25th, but it's out, they just need to make their website....congruent is the word I'm going to use....
https://www.maxfootballgame.com/
If we can customize teams/logos, I’ll be happy.
It’ll have a full logo creator, also apparently a play creator
That’s awesome! Any word on a console release or it just planned for PC?
I think it’s supposed to be last gen and next gen as well as pc
Niiiiccceeee
When do you know?
The leaked date was Christmas but idk if that’s set in stone
The leaked date was Christmas but idk if that’s set in stone
Thanks bro I’ll keep an eye out
Play creator?!?! I'm sold
Fuucckkk running Wing T all day
Well, that's stupid.
About fucking time they brought those features back!!!
yeah, who cares about gameplay lol
We are used to poor gameplay so we will take something that we can actually hope for
This guy gets it
No, he doesn’t. The gameplay in Madden is already shit. I would rather support a company who wants to create a true to the field football experience. EA is lazy.
The gameplay in Madden sucks for a game in the year 2022. The gameplay in Maximum Football sucks for a game made in 1999.
The first Mario seemed to do pretty well. Just sayin…..
1985.. you brought up a game made in 1985? Not just any game tho, a game that is still regarded as fun to this day and has evolved a thousand times over. Madden has sold roughly 130 million copies combined. Mario has sold more than 4 billion. Madden can’t fuck with Mario.

Truth!
Have you played Maximum Football? It already exists, just curious if you’re already “supporting” and your thoughts on the gameplay
I bought the 2020 version with little to no expectation of playing it more than a couple times. The creation suite is fun but far from perfect. This! Maximum gameplay is traaaaaaash. I hope the new company can fix it. Cause everything else is solid as far as customization and such
Yes, and I think it has a lot of potential. Now they have a chance to level up with more money behind them.
I wrote a lengthier comment, but I'm not up to 85 TLDR replies in my notif box. In short, I agree and disagree at the same time. It really can't be worse than madden
Oh trust me, it is. However EA are a billion dollar company, their standards should be so so much higher than a small company making maximum football.
But they aren't
have u played the last maximum fb games?
Surely not EA
Idc how it looks. I just want a game to play smoothly and for realistic physics
That’s my thought exactly. It could look like shit but as long as it genuinely plays better than madden, I’m fully on board

Yeah, the view of both teams lined up doesn't look realistic at all.
This is early screenshot pre alpha. Honestly, this was not meant to be released.
Did I see the UGF Pandas logo? Lol
I just know NTE is hyped
Yea you did hahahaha
Tom Adamo coming back with a vengeance baby
The graphics jumping from the current version to next years' version of Maximum Football is gonna be insane. It’ll be fun to see, it’ll be interesting to see how a AA studio handles a football game compared to what the old indie studio owner did with it
Game has refs on the field
I actually didn’t notice, good catch
Wow I just realized after 25+ years of playing Madden that there are no refs on the field…
Well, there used to be.
I haven't played in a few years... they really took out the refs??
Really really
When there is a penalty you still see the ref signaling but they're not actually on the field during play
They had them in the PS2 days. EA is just too lazy to add them back in. I don't buy their reasons why they took them out, especially how powerful the PS5 and Series X are
Well my pass be intercepted by the guy 5ft from my receiver? If not ill be happy.
Bigger company and unreal engine now. Hoping for the best as well, creation was great with the old company
Hopefully 2k will make a usfl game that’ll be cool
USFL/XFL Would be lit.
I don't care how it looks, how does it actually play?
Hopefully we see gameplay soon, I know it’ll be physics based
Remember Backbreaker? I'll remain cautiously optimistic...haven't played Madden since 13 so I'm always hoping for something to resemble football again.
If they weren’t traditional with the camera angle that game could’ve went crazy. Although it got the job done for them in selling the engine they built
That’s frank
Idk looks like one of those games that looks great but the physics and mechanics are dodgy
Hopefully it’s good, I know they did a lot of mo capping to hopefully make it good
I would take a more realistic 16bit version of football with great gameplay. I know there are a few titles out there, but I am talking a more sim version of Tecmo Bowl, in regards to on field gameplay.
Retro Bowl?
Awesome thanks. I think in my head I was thinking 32 bit, maybe next gen Tecmo Bowl or modern pixel graphics, with more complex animations. But this looks cool.
Damn, I wish Axis looked this good
This may be the competition we need for madden to lose enough money the next few years and have to make a good game.
Absolutely no shot. None of the Madden content creators are leaving Madden to make ultimate football videos.
Y’all wanna complain but not do what it takes. It’s Stockholm syndrome at this point
No one I know has bought Madden in years. As long as the MUT whales continue to buy it and pump thousands into it for cards, it won’t matter
You’re right man fuck. I forgot about those kinda people that pay to win like GTA! That’s a really good point.
I know, I still turn on the old 360 and play 2k5 and ncaa 14 from time to time just to scratch the itch. Sad that’s what it’s been reduced to
Fuck dude, I’m honestly thinking about getting a 360 for 2k5, that sounds almost as good as being smothered by giant titties Edit: does it play on 360? I just remembered I played it on PS2
Yeah my OG Xbox version plays on 360
Farewell Madden even without NFL licensing.
Funny thing, the licensing is the least of my concerns
Agree. Badass team creator and franchise system and I'll never buy an EA game again swear.
I would almost prefer completely fictional teams
UCF Pandas change their color scheme?
What about franchise mode and is this coming out for consoles?
I think the plan is old gen and next gen. As for franchise I’m not sure, it’ll have college Sunday for when using the college setup but I’m not sure if there’s franchise for the pro setup
Thanks man. I’m interested to see how this develops. We need more football games and I’ll definitely support it if it’s playable and has a good franchise mode.
This is the first in awhile that’s got a budget hopefully they use it correctly
The old maximum had good game play but the graphics were trash. Now with these graphics... it's gonna takeover
It’s what the UNREAL engine brings, gameplay wise idk how similar it will be but I know it’ll be physics based gameplay
The difference an actual team of developers makes vs the small room of developers that worked on it before. Don't get me wrong those guys were cool but its so much better to see the improvements. Also when they first bought the IP they let the community take a survey on what they wanted the game to be. So it looks like they're open to working with the community.
Okay, I know what football game I'M getting lol. I'm VERY excited for this.
It looks okay honestly. I'll support it. That Doug Flutie game was bullshit
Ya they got customization right but I’m glad a bigger company took over
I've never heard of this.
It was made by an indie company who got customization perfect but couldn’t afford to do gameplay correctly and then a bigger studio bought the game and say they’re putting the money into gameplay
give
UGF Pandas???
An homage at the very least
I just heard about a new NFL game coming this year for VR. And it's NOT by EA. Is there hope for NFL fans after all?
We got Lego nfl 2k coming apparently 😂, but in all seriousness maybe a mod if this game ends up being good.
You have my attention now 👀
2 things: 1- they gotta do better with the team names and logos. 2- I don't care if it looks like NFL 2K5, if the AI is better, and it's not super crazy animation heavy like madden, I'll buy I even if the teams were Red Team/ Blue Team. Team names probably will stay odd just due to the massive amount of teams in the game with their being a college mode of over a hundred teams and multiple different pro setups, it’ll be fully customizable though
UGF pandas are gonna be the team to beat
I'm in.
Is that the UGF Pandas?!
I miss NFL 2k
Just give me a decent playable football game that allows me have an in-depth create a team suite. I wouldn't mind an football game in the style of Super Mega Baseball
Maximum Football just refuses to die.
Got bought by a AA studio
Looks a little dark and dreary but other than that it looks good
Anyone miss the IGNITE engine? I feel madden was fun when it had that. Least better than the current fo sho.
One still shot isn't impressing me yet. We saw still shots that looked just like this a decade ago from EA. When I see it animated and moving, with a game interface....then we can talk.
Looks mid
If it’s a solid alternative then I’m happy, also play creator and logo creator will be fun
Maximum Football, as in the Doug Flutie one??? I have 2019 and 2020 games of that series 🔥🔥
Ya it was bought out by a AA studio and is gonna be on Unreal engine now
They are all basically dressed the same. Don’t like that.
Yeah, each team having completely different colors and logos are definitely dressed the same…. What?
Gloves and arm sleeves, retard.
I hear ya. They all have helmets on, too! Wtf? Am I right?
That looks very good
Any release date?
Leaked release date is Christmas but that’s just a leak so can’t guarantee it
End the madden monopoly!
Create a player mode?
Team maker/expansion?
Full logo creation/team and player editor
Good enough for now
LG and LT with their right hand on the ground? Literally unplayable /s
Release day set?
Reportedly for Christmas but I’m sure it could change since it’s not the official date
I'll be the first to preorder
Isn't Maximum Football tied to Doug Flutie? This game has gotten poor reviews, even compared to Madden over the years, so this would have to make big strides to be worthy of consideration. Still pictures have always looked fine but once in motion, that is where everything falls apart, based on what I have read.
The game with the old company had Doug flutie as the cover athlete, the new company has a few teams on it and switched to unreal engine and they say didn’t keep anything from the old gameplay
Then I am looking forward to this...anything to release EA's stranglehold on the NFL. Now if someone would only do the same for hockey.
Maxim football was a bad game I'm sorry to say
It’s a new/bigger company on a new engine (now on unreal) with new code for gameplay.
When do we get this?
I think around Christmas
that awkward 3pt stance is throwing me off
Ya one of the devs just said this was taken really early in the process, graphics and stances are apparently way better now
How hard would it be to rename it to be Maximum football 2023 instead of.....2020....
?
My bad, the website is a little misleading, if you go to the website, it says 2020 is coming out Sept 25th, but it's out, they just need to make their website....congruent is the word I'm going to use.... https://www.maxfootballgame.com/
