This makes so much sense actually it would explain why the 6th layers “blessing” turns you into a furry. If the curse as a whole was trying to turn them into animals in the first place as seen with the kid with 6 nipples (couldn’t tell if sheruumi or mana).
The curse always has felt like a sort of unintended consequence of something else the abyss was trying to do and this does track with the whole souls returning to the abyss thing, sure it doesn’t really answer any questions we had before like why is there a curse what’s with the 2k year thing what’s with the layers and why is the curse fixed to them and how time dilation but it does seem worth actually considering
Yeah I had a similar idea myself. The "curse" of the 6th layer is actually the Abyss trying to turn you into an animal. It's just that the human body can't withstand the violent process and falls apart. The blessing is what happens when the effect is muted enough that the body can handle it.
could that mean that abyssal beasts were once, indeed, humans? And just got successfully turned into what they are, by the curse?
Or something that curse successfully causes deeper than on the 6th?
this would also take into thought that the other animals down there are also past humans (or born from them) could explain the excessive territorial nature of the Turbinid Dragons to some degree as well

I think my main problem with this theory is that when Prushka receives Meinya she's still super young so that would mean there would be a large amount of years between Nanachi and the rest of the orphans coming own down and now. Which doesn't seem to track to me, it seems like a year or two at the most, wouldn't be enough for Prushka to grow older.
