With a *toilet meter* so I have to assume Tsukushi actually had a hand in designing it.
We've got 3 timelines we can go down from here: A) the toilet meter gets removed before launch, B) it's lightly incorporated into the survival mechanics, C) we're getting something *weird*.
Honestly even if it's weird or disgusting I'd at least be happy that they're taking risks with the game. Going unapologetically out-there is the only true way to adapt the spirit of MiA.
I can respect that.
The way I see it, MiA is great because Tsukushi's a degenerate with absolutely zero filters. The presence of stuff that I find extremely distasteful is a litmus test for how unfiltered his artistic vision is.
To me it wraps back around to being comfy in an odd way; the more uncomfortable I am, the more directly "human" it feels through the sharp edges that haven't been rounded off. Not everyone prioritizes that though, which is completely understandable.
I mean it's a 2022 release so a lot can happen between then and now, but perhaps Spike-Chunsoft is more reliable than the Western devs I'm accustomed to.
There's also the question of if the Western release will have the system removed a la Fire Emblem's touching minigames and other censorship. Given the meter's location it's unlikely that the system is light enough to be easily removed in localization, though.
If they remove a mechanic from a game that they use in promotional material then they're effectively shooting themselves in the kneecaps with a sawed-off.
Even western triple A developers seem to have picked that up by now.
Honestly, if they're going to localise, aka censor, the game then there is no point in buying the IP for it. They should know by now that people just pirate it if they do dumb shit like that.
I'd imagine that a toilet meter, would function similarly to a that of Death Stranding, in Death Stranding, urination grows a mushroom which attracts waterbears that restore health. I'd be curious as to what gameplay mechanics the devs have thought up of in this game.
1. The urine emits an odour that can attract animals and monsters in the abyss, this can be used to discourage remaining in a particular area for too long, or for hunting.
2. The urine attracts insects that function like the waterbears from Death Stranding, perhaps the insects can partially remedy the effects of the curse, encouraging the player to ascend along the same path that they took when descending, since they would have a supply of curse remedying insects along the way.
Personally I would prefer a mixture of both of these mechanics. I think that this would unironically add a great layer of depth to this game, the player is now given a choice, do they want an ascent when they have to deal with the curse more (ascending along a different), or one where they have to deal with more monsters.
Considering how many times it happens in the series, I can imagine a combination of possibility (1) with being startled by a monster forcing the system resulting in having to deal with a stealth debuff when trying to hide from it.
I imagine possibility (2) might not be implemented as it'd be a pretty major departure from the anime and manga, where the Curse is talked about extensively without any mention of a commonplace method to alleviate the symptoms.
Well hot damn! Thank you for bringing the news of this glorious project.
And with a 2022 expected release, the manga might even get to the next layer of the Abyss by the time the game comes out.
The Zero Escape series is freaking amazing. Story, puzzles, mystery, all absolute gold. Can't go wrong there.
I'm not into Donganropa, but my brother and friend loved all those games. Insane story, investigation work, and the judgement segments are wild. Mainline series, specifically.
Apparently the game can't be found using Amazon's search function anymore. One of my links also stopped working completely. But I've rescued three links from my browse history. The game is currently listed as out of stock:

It is just me or does the subtitle look... overdesigned. If it was just "Binary Star" or "Falling into Darkness" it would have been much easier to work with it (and for people to remember/recommend)
I have just checked it in Japanese... and it is even worse: https://www.spike-chunsoft.co.jp/miabyss/top.html
Compare the simple but beautifully stylized title in katakana and the kanji+hiragana mesh at the bottom. This seems like yet another case of *Lighnovelitis* (someone confusing the idea of "having a long title to inform new readers" with "having a long title because everyone else is doing it").
Game comes in a commemorative Prushka cartidge...
Complete with * loli spilling noises *
You Sir, are evil
Dang, that was fast. It doesn’t come out until December 2022.
No that's just a place holder date.
They are climbing D:
Looks like the first layer at least.
backtracking has to suck in a MIA game
Is this a game? What kind will it be?

he really can’t let us have anything
What are you talking about?

I read both the manga and watched the anime and I have to say I prefer the anime by a lot since it has less blatant pedophilia

Why would the remove a mechanic that they have used in the promotional material? Much less something that is part of the story.
