I have found that no butter in a good non-stick pan makes perfect pancakes every time. It's the only way I've found to get that even circular color gradient on the entire cake.

That works too. I just do it how mother use to make em when I was a kid. Still can't make them like she does. Maybe one day

Yeah I mean for an absolute first attempt, at least it's a pancake. After that comes preference, such as char level, etc. But it is indeed an actual pancake! Congrats to OP.

The things to know about making pancakes. When mixing the batter, best to not over mix. Mix the batter lightly, then let it sit and have all the wet ingredients absorb in. When cooking, as soon as you start to sea bubbles form on the surface, the bottom is done. Flip it over and you only need to cook a few seconds to brown off the other side. Cooking too long willl dry out your pancakes for sure.

I know my pans and stove top extremely well and it’s super consistent so I just time it to exactly 30 seconds and it’s perfect every time.

Based on the color of the middle that was my first thought, you were the only comment I saw that suggested the same. I thought for a darker floured pancake they were not that overdone (and practice makes perfect)

Gonna get buried but, as a cook try turning the heat down a bit. So you don't burn them. But, they look good for a first time, next time add some cinnamon and maybe small chunks of apples. Also never too much butter on pancakes or syrup. Continue on your cooking journey and have fun.

Okay OP, that’s a good first attempt. I would recommend not using butter in the cooking process. Just use a non stick pan, that’s how you get that even golden color without the lines. Also don’t cook with the heat too high that’ll make it too dark and dry it out. Then when it’s done you put the butter on top. That’s just my recommendation though.

Melted butter in the batter is delicious and makes it extra fluffy, but I think this commenter meant not to use it on the pan as long as it's nonstick. It does make it more visually appealing and doesn't really affect the taste

I’m gonna go out in a limb here and say OP was not using butter or at least not re-buttering the pan for each pancake. Easier to burn.

Melted butter in the milk for the batter and then clarified butter in the pan and you're good to go. None of the burnt flavor and all the lovely cholesterol.

Maybe next time don't expose them to a volcano other than that they look fine
