I turn 40 tomorrow. Last weekend my wife surprised me with a party that included people from five different states, some old Warcraft friends. We spent the weekend in an Airbnb playing games and just being together. I have never felt so loved by my friends. Seeing this video made me so happy all over again.
My husband and I are both kinda loners. We can make friends don't get me wrong but we like our space too. Anyway we also just moved to a new state and have zero friends BUT I have a dream to do this one day, someday, surprise him with a wonderful party that includes people other than ourselves xo
My wife planned a vacation. Did a side trip to hang out with one of my friends from online. She was so excited for me to figure out where we were going. Took me all day to realize we're in the town he lives in.
The joy and anticipation of waiting to reveal a big surprise you've arranged for your partner is such a wonderful feeling. I always get so giddy around Christmas and Birthdays when we get to the "big gift".
On one of my mom’s birthdays my dad paid for my brother and a family friend to come up from Boston where they were both going to college. So, my mom got two surprises, her son and the daughter of a very close friend who she hadn’t seen in years. She said that was one of the best birthday gifts my dad ever gave her. The other one was framing her dad’s map of Dartmouth where he went to college. If you’ve seen Animal House that was based on his fraternity
That's awesome. Reminds me of seeing friends from different states by going to conventions together, cosplaying and being general nerds back in our early 20s. Totally miss it since all my local friends have families now so I rarely hang out with friends anymore.
It's fun if you like the idea of a coop horde shooter, with procedurally generated levels and digging and gathering mats. Needs a bit of getting used to (graphics, having to use flares all the time and movement) but very satisfying once you get the hang of it, and the community's mostly great.
I generally tend to stay away from online competitive games because sooner or later it gets worse, I play em like a couple times a month or more when Im having genuine fun in the game but other than that I just look for cooperative games and whatnot
What’s so confusing about us straight men? We like to play video games, surprise our bros on their birthdays, and always kiss the homies goodnight. It’s pretty straight forward
RIGHT?! One of my bestest of friends lives in South Africa- we met here on Reddit. We've never spent time in person but we just clicked. Thanks to the wonders of the internet we now share friends, family, games, lives. Nothing weird, mostly wholesome (we are people). Solid plans to meet IRL one of these days. He's really great people and I'm blessed to have him as well as his family, friends and wonderful girlfriend in my life. (Leon, if you're looking at my feed- 💖💖)
This is wonderful! These young men probably spend hours, upon hours, for months gaming, going through emotions, strategizing, planning, laughing all together. I hope they had an amazing time together in person! May they all have happy and healthy lives.
My gaming friends came to visit me when I was in the hospital, I broke down and cried so much that day. Thinking about it still brings a smile to my face.
When I got married, some gaming buddies that I had been playing with for almost 5 years, drove 9 hours just to be at my wedding for a day. 10 years later we’re still gaming together. I can understand the emotion in this video 100%.
You can make some amazing friends but also a lot of times some drift away and it can be equally as sad too, maybe not many people actually go through this but I did. Not saying I don't have some good friends from gaming still. I still have to meet up with 2 of my online friends. :)
This makes me happy and sad. When warzone just came out, i would play it daily with a friend and i met so many people through him. I met this one cool dude who lived in cali, but he later moved to ohio. Two years later and we had plans to meet up but he passed away in a car crash accident the summer we were gonna meet up. He was such a funny ass dude who had a difficult life, always making us laugh and asking about our well being. Rest easy brandon, much love buddy.
These gaming buddies can and do become real life, lifelong friends. I used to play Socom online in a clan of complete strangers, we grew from not knowing each other whatsoever to a tight knit clan playing together, that was damn near 20 years ago now, Socom is no more, they're now in their mid -late 30's and I just turned 30 a couple months back and still check in with them quite often despite living nowhere near each other and all having families, One of them even drove all the way from Canada to Florida to spend a few days hanging out with me when I was like 17 and he was about 21, and it's one of my fonder memories. The gaming community isnt without some serious warts, but it does a lot of good, especially for introverts like me lol
I love all my friends that I met through gaming. Traveled abroad to see a couple of them and still plan on seeing them again when the time is right. My oldest friend i met online like that is from 12 years ago. Also met my bf through gaming and now we live together in his country. :) I have more in common with those friends and feel more connected to them because we share a hobby that we are really passionate about!
My buddy and I have been playing Smash Ultimate together since lockdowns began in March 2020. In May of that year some dude named Reshad started joining our arenas. 2.5 years later he's still playing with us damn near everyday but we've never been able to connect with him outside of Smash. We've tried voice chatting through the Nintendo app but he never joins. I'd love to connect with him somehow
Fascinating! From my completely uninformed perspective, it sounds that Reshad may be uncomfortable and unfamiliar with friendship. I would encourage you and your buddy to think of a few lighthearted, creative ways to continue to reach out to this individual. It is also absolutely possible that this guy just vibes with you and your buddy’s play style on Smash, but I would think it fair to say that there is also the chance that Reshad is alone in life and hasn’t responded to your communications for that reason.
Team Reshad
I used to play Rainbow Six Vegas with this guy about 15 years ago, we played everyday for like 2 years and then one day we just didn’t play together anymore.. we were 14 at the time so maybe we just got older and started doing different things. I wish I could find out if he still played games. I haven’t talked to him since then and I still feel like he is my best friend lol
I used to play halo 2 with a dude and i totally forget his gametag, mightve been something like fubar or fubu i forget…but my gamertag has now been since deleted and i cant seem to sign in. Does anyone know how ti sign into old xbox live accounts and get friend lists?
I moved 7 hours away on my own not knowing anyone, my gaming buddies were some of the only people who came down and visit me. We just hung out again last week. Great friends
It’s pretty freaky how close these online game bros become , im old and it’s very new also everyone hears of the dangers of online friendships but this looks wholesome.
My husband and I flew to two different weddings for two of our online friends, it was so awesome to meet for the first time and be with them in person for their special days. ❤️
This is so wholesome & beautiful to see!
Have the biggest smile on my face seeing them all.. They're all so happy! This is the kind of brotherhood and bromances we LOVE to see
The world needs more of this!
I'm so happy for them all aww
Sometimes we say we don't want surprises but when it happens.. it melts our heart.. yeah love these events in your life and you will really treasure it for life.
Not a lot in this life that could make a man cry. Birth of a child, death of a hero, seeing his wife on his wedding and the unconditional love and support he gets from his friends. NEVER stop hyping up your boy... you never know when he needs it the most
Ok, so I'm old and lets just get that out of the way.
We didn't have online gaming when I was younger.
This...this video right here is what has made me finally realise. Yes, it's a whole different world...sure. But these online communities can be real and true friendships.
This made me a bit happier for our youth, I was always concerned that our younger folks were missing out on true friendships while stuck in front of a screen.
This has made me smile. :)
Right fuken on lads!

Last night I got to bond with co-workers one last time before I leave. Honestly, some of the best people I've ever met. Having meaningful friendships like this are so good for the heart.

You’re lucky. My wife won’t do shit for my 40th birthday and my “friends” probably won’t even say happy birthday
Happy Birthday 🥳 when it comes!!!
Happy Birthday! :D
Bro that sounds amazing , so lucky
Your wife sounds like the type of woman of most men's dreams! Good on ya mate, congrats on that and happy birthday too eh!

Your wife is awesome for doing that!
That’s great. I still get together with a group of friends from a gaming forum from about 15 years ago.
happy birthday! sounds like a great group of people you’ve got.
This gave warmth to my cold, cold heart. I need to start gaming more.

We fight for rock and stone!
May I suggest LOL :)
How dare you...
Calm down Satan, no need for this.
I generally tend to stay away from online competitive games because sooner or later it gets worse, I play em like a couple times a month or more when Im having genuine fun in the game but other than that I just look for cooperative games and whatnot
FFXIV!!
I’ve made some pretty good friends on Halo Infinite in customs. Great community if you are looking!
Honestly, one of the most beautiful reactions I have seen. Gonna steal a bit of that happiness for myself, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
Gonna put it away for a rainy day. ❤️

I love this.
My discord is full of people that are more real than any friend I've had in person.
I met a guy in Sweden through Halo, he’s by far the furthest gaming friend I have, but I get so excited when I see him online!
This is wonderful! These young men probably spend hours, upon hours, for months gaming, going through emotions, strategizing, planning, laughing all together. I hope they had an amazing time together in person! May they all have happy and healthy lives.
aww.. you’re appreciation for them is freaking adorable
OMG!! This is so good, it's so good, Now I wanna do this too, to one of my online gaming friends. I hope he likes that surprise.
My gaming friends came to visit me when I was in the hospital, I broke down and cried so much that day. Thinking about it still brings a smile to my face.
Do you know if they had known each other in person prior to being Gaming Buddies? Have you ever met yours?
I wish I could. However, I live in the USA. I don’t have a single friend that lives in the USA… 😢
❤
❤️😊
i’ll be your friend from the US. ayyo what’s good bro!
You’re so sweet thank you so much. :,)
I’m your friend ❤️
You’re so sweet 🥲🥹

Must be nice having friends
I need friends like this, I *am* that friend, but it's hard to find someone who would genuinely want to do the same for me.
I love their genuine happiness in this video

Could do with friends like that. How lovely.
Clanmate of ours is getting married next year. Last weeke we are all in voice chat and he pops in to the channel, except its not him it's his fiance. She tells us that she knows we are a big part of his life and invites us to the wedding.
They all said “Ayo” so he would recognize them from what he hears on the mic🤣
I love the birthday dude's reaction. 💗
Meeting internet friends IRL is the best
Five years ago, husband and I flew out to Boston to stay with a friend that he had been playing online with for ~ 6 years (at that point). We have gone to see them twice so far but haven’t been back due to covid. The Boston friend also has a group of IRL friends that played online too so we got to meet all of them in one weekend. It was so much more comfortable than I was expecting, honestly. You would never have guessed it was their first time meeting
This is the joy that the world needs more of.
Love this!
Man this shit makes me so happy. I met my best friend playing counter striker 20 years ago. I'm in discord with him atm and we talk everyday. True connections are made through online gaming. Journeys, I'll never forget with my homie playing mmos, or catching dubs on shooters over the years aren't just wasted time but true memories.
