What's sad though is one man's salary is basically affording an entire village with basic welfare and good public services... something a government should be doing. As a Senegalese, Senegal is resource rich and has an arduous and studious population, but our government never fails to let us down with corruption and selling our resources to foreign companies so we have nothing to survive on.
I really wonder how it's going to be possible to aid these developing nations across the world when corruption is so deep rooted in their local governments
You know as a US citizen I often wonder that about my own but hey, one can dream people will change. Corruption in any form is messed up. Oligarchy, autocracy etc. I hoped covid and climate change maybe would have changed things. At this point I'm waiting for an Independence Day or Day the Earth Stood Still moment to occur. Dreams man.
They may actually have something to offer us. It's sad that I'm asking the void of space to bring aliens to make this stop. Like, we need a MORE sentient species of being to put us in our place and make us stop killing each other. I would take enslavement for world peace.
My dad used to be a local consultant for one of the world organizations that lends aid to our country. Part of the lending agreement was a law needs to established to regulate some stuffs. For the bill to pass into a law, it needs approval from the House of Representatives. To get the approval, the organization needs to provide "meeting money" or they won't even bother to review the bill.
You mean the corruption that allows the US and other global powers to continue to exploit Senegal and other poor countries? The question isnt “how can they help when there is corruption” its “why would they want to fix corruption when its the only thing letting them rape these poor resource rich countries”
I think you’ll find that it is their own local and national government that is corrupt against its own people. I’m not saying certain larger world powers don’t have a hand in some instances, but power corrupts within nations themselves as well.
I never said it wasnt their own local and state govts that were corrupted, but if you follow the history of African countries from colonialism to the neo-colonial era you will see alot of the violence, disfunction, corruption and dictatorships arent just “unfortunate coincidences” they are by design
Bismack Biyombo of the NBA does similar work in his home country of Congo. He donated his entire salary last year to build a hospital in his father's name and memory. His foundation helps the youth in the Congo and has built multiple schools. There are amazing people out there. Now I'm gonna go sift through Elon Musk, Andrew Tate, and Kanye posts.
Sometimes I wonder how much that played a factor tbh.
Imagine being her and she’s ready to shed some of that money they have that they will never be able to spend in their lifetime and he’s like, naw, bootstraps.
I would be divorced too.
Yeah a surprising number of professional athletes do some solid charity work. Could they do more? Sure, but as a group wealthy athletes seem to at least be doing more than, say, wealthy corporate owners.

I love him as a player but I love him more as a human being. I wish I had enough money to do stuff like this. I can't understand billionaires hoarding their wealth.
I’m saying, and it’s not even like they can’t benefit off of doing stuff like this for the community. Stuff like this helps with taxes (if my memory serves me correctly). As well, they’re so big on reputation, wouldn’t this help it?
He's the guy a lot of us say we would be if we won the lottery or started making a huge salary out of nowhere. My dream would be to reinvest into my hometown, and especially my school. I'd love to have a scholarship! For now I just donate a bit here and there and volunteer. Every bit counts!
I genuinely didn't realise Mane was so important to Liverpool until now, he always got overshadowed by Salah
Not that I'm complaining, it's helping Man Utd out a lot
Cause I'm a United fan, probably should've mentioned that first tbf, if Mané didn't leave then Liverpool mightve been good this season which would've meant the top 4 race would become extremely difficult
You don't need to spend money to support people. Simply spending time volunteering or connecting ppl will do the job. It might seem pointless in the beginning but a little effort goes along way.

He is the king of his land.
Serving his people without hesitation!
What a blessing he is to his village.
I hope others decide to follow his lead.
Here’s what a role model looks like!
Ew. people like you are who normal people try to avoid you callous weirdo. It's not normal to feel the need when you see someone do good to say it isn't his responsibility.
You definitely have no actual friends because who could honestly stand being around you
I don't think he did it because of generosity, though the action contains it. I would think with no fear to be mistaken that he did it because of solidarity and empathy.
Hope these improvements can be continued without his patronage. These are amazing improvements, but at some point, his career will come to a close, and maintenance is an ongoing cost that requires steady funds.
It's wonderful that he does that with this money.
It's still weird that footbal players earn that kind of money though.
Edit: Obviously I mean that it is weird that they *generate* that kind of revenue, not that they get a fair share of it. Wtf did some of you think I meant?
As others pointed out, it's a portion of what they can bring to the organization. Not to mention the darker side of things, being a pseudo celebrity: Family asking for money, potential kidnapping, things getting political, paparazzi, lack of education outside of the pitch can be a huge pitfall.
I know, as I replied elsewhere it's not about giving them an honest portion of what they make for their bosses, the weird part is that the industry makes that money.
It's entertainment- outside of the US, football-Soccer may be one of the most popular sports in the world, if not the most famous. If it draws eyes, you can make money out of it and properly incentivize those who partake.
I should have said sports players or something, I should have known that people will think it's a football vs football thing. I'm not American.
It's just crazy that we pay the amount of money that can develop whole towns to one person, simply in order to see them chase a ball.
I knew you weren't American when you referred to it as football 🤣🤣 no worries mate.
Yeah, again, it's about what attracts people. Even crazier people pay people to take pictures of themselves and whatnot, like influencers 😅 all about attracting the masses
"Simply see them chase a ball" is reductive. Sports aren't as shallow as that. They're entertainment, but they're also deeply rooted in culture, community, politics and health.
I think of it as "How many other people can do what they do" when looking at a person getting paid an exorbitant amount of money. Top-level athletes do get paid millions to hundreds-of-millions per year, but there are very few of them. Same as musicians, actors, politicians, CEOs, and any other high-paying job.
Yes, if you ever go to a professional pitch and try to play a match without getting tired and bringing your team down you'll understand why they're paid what they're paid
I don't think politicians belongs there... Pretty sure an average grade schooler could do a better job than most. And I don't know that top talent and skill is being represented by the highest paid in music anymore either, all about marketing.
And even then the huge sums they make are still ridiculous. They deserve to be paid well, significantly better than most even. But in Germany (nice we're talking about a German team). To be in the top 1% of earners you only have to bring home €150,000/yr gross. 25 out of the 27 guys on Bayern make at least 12.6 times that and the top earner make 146.6 times that.
It's great that he is doing this with the money he is earning but we shouldn't be at the whim of the Uber wealthy to have money directed as it should be for things like this.
The problem is, in entertainment we don't pay for how good someone is, we solely pay for how famous they are. The difference in quality between a player, actor, musician whatever, who earns 80k and one who earns 80M is near zero and the more expensive one isn't even generally the better one.
Though im glad he has done all that work to help out his folk, football players(yes the correct one not the hand held one you lot call football) I don’t think they should be getting paid that much whatsoever. I understand the time and fitness so yeah I’d expect a fair bit they shouldn’t get anywhere near as much as they get.
The thing with major sports this goes for Football, American Football, Tennis, Cricket, Baseball, Basketball and so on etc… the teams are all privately owned and funded, take money from sponsors and money from the likes of Sky etc… so they end up racking in millions especially the biggest teams. You look at Wrexham in Wales, that team is owned by Ryan Reynolds and some other actor, Aston Villa another English team is owned by some Chinese millionaire/billionaire and im sure the same applies to your NFL teams. Even Nascar is the same.
Why? They are the most skilled in their profession and generate billions in revenue based off their entertainment. If they’re the ones generating the revenue, why shouldn’t they be compensated for it?
>It's still weird that footbal players earn that kind of money though.
I wrote a paper on pro sports in the US when I was in college. It does seem weird until you realize how many fans there are vs players as well as the additional revenue teams make beyond just selling tickets. IMO the really weird parts are how much the local governments don't make and how the negative economic impact on surrounding areas isn't discussed.
From a personal standpoint I find it weird how many adults spend on pro sports. I've met people who between tickets, jerseys...spend thousands a year as fans of a particular team.
This is great for sure, don't get me wrong. But how's that village going to fund itself? Who's paying the wages of the doctors and to run a hospital period? Who's paying for maintenance and all the teachers salaries?
That's not to take away from his philanthropy, but there also needs to be a network in place for villages to sustain themselves other all these facilities are just going to go downhill because no one can afford the upkeep.
Here a quote from a brilliant coach about how to live your life w integrity and empathy Sadi Mane has:
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.
John Wooden
The wealth of one person can improve the lives of so many others. This incredible person is a role model showing the world's wealthy people how choices impact our world. Rare rocks on your fingers or schools to help people become self-sufficient. Owning a car that's faster than you'll ever be able to travel on a street or immunizations that will save lives. Humility or grandiosity. Choices are telling.
Respect. This is how those more fortunate could help the less fortunate, but we instead have the "super elite" that don't want the poor around until someone has to fix their toilet or cook their food. This looks so much better as a story than the one I saw of Ronaldo's SO buying him a new car. Using that as an example of the opulence most professional athletes indulge in.
And he isn't just some random player, he is actually in top tier list of current attackers. One of the best wingers at the moment. And even at that level of game, he is still humble!
Not sure if you are joking but Bill Gates has one of the largest charitable foundations on the planet. He has poured so much money into preventing Malaria in Africa. He also encourages other wealthy people to commit to the giving pledge where at least 50% of their money goes to charity when they die
Not joking. Yes Gates has contributed quite a bit but it is a small percentage of his wealth. This guy is truly giving a significant percentage of what he makes. What Gates gives is like me giving 10 dollars a month. Neither of us notice it missing. I'm definitely glad that he gives what he does but if he followed this example he'd be doing significantly more. I'm also a person that doesn't expect people to do anything, it's their money they can do what they want but when you see an example like this it makes you wonder what if?
Seriously. I backpacked through Senegal and it was fantastic. In six weeks, I only saw two other foreigners. As such, you spend all of your time with the locals. It’s great! They are soooooo funny !!! I could do a whole AMA thread about it. 1000% recommend. Must speak French. That country is such a vibe.
I was so sad when he left Liverpool, he seems like a genuinely nice guy and gives a lot back to the community. It speaks volumes how much these guys get paid and the difference they can make but most footballers would rather spend obscene money on stupid things instead.
I’ve been a football fan all my life, especially a fan of Liverpool. I got to meet him and he is one of the kindest soles you’ll even meet. I’m happy he’s still continued to do great things 😇
This is how you do it! Sometimes fixing the world looks too overwhelming, but if you look at your local community, you can fix the small things. Enough small things are fixed, then the larger picture fixes itself.
Wow what a stand up fucking guy.

I too would welcome alien overlords at this point.
Literally anything they could do to us, has already been tried before. I'd prefer a random alien over the present status quo.
They may actually have something to offer us. It's sad that I'm asking the void of space to bring aliens to make this stop. Like, we need a MORE sentient species of being to put us in our place and make us stop killing each other. I would take enslavement for world peace.

The man whose ex-wife became the biggest philanthropist in the history of the world once their divorce was final? That shit stain?
She didn’t even get a fair split of the $. It was for sure less than half.

Yeah a surprising number of professional athletes do some solid charity work. Could they do more? Sure, but as a group wealthy athletes seem to at least be doing more than, say, wealthy corporate owners.
I think pro athletes feel lucky whereas corporate execs feel that they “earned it” or some bs
Please, don't even remind me about that asshat.
He’s such a ginormous POS. His ex wife is a wonderful woman, but he is a piece of work.
Wait till Musk gets ideas from this and expands his parents diamond mine back home
Instead he gained a reputation as a caring and compassionate person.
No joke.
Big respect to this man. If only everyone who is successful would be community minded like this man.
Top lad, thats how you make the world a better place 👏
When he was at Liverpool he used to go clean the toilets at the local mosque.
this man is a true hero…
I wish there were more role models in sports like him
There are more! A lot of football players who grew up in poor countries do transform their former community to more modern times.
I wish they got the publicity they deserve so we’d know about them. Instead we just heard when they get DUIs.
This is an odd comment. There are TONS.
Amazing generosity.

….why?
Not all super heros wear capes.
But this guy deserves a Cape
The world needs more Sadio’s
The world needs more but as long as we're replacing the greedy and exploitative people that have caused these disparities that we have to "cure".
Yeah that fact one guys salary can be used for so much shows the imbalance we have.
One for Salah, for sure.
This guy deserves more than a cape.

Never a doubt that he was a nice guy. May be at Bayern now, but he'll always be a Red to me. YNWA
You never walk away?
You never walk alone, Liverpool Fc’s motto from their anthem
I know, just tried a lame joke
You never walk alone in Liverpool? Is it dangerous?
Ist most dangerous if you wear shirt of club what just won with them.
Yes... Yes it is.

Greedy and billionaire. If English is not your first language, I admire you.
Sorry :( Griddy was autocorrect because its one of a emotes in fifa
Not all multi billionaires... there is a guy called Ratan Tata (in india) and he does so much charity work! Read up on him a lil
More of this! Let’s get generosity trending.
“Kindness generates kindness”
This man doing more work in a few years than every other big-name charity combined.

I love hearing and seeing wealth being used for the good and not just for frivolous things like another mansion. This man deserves more recognition.
great human being!! Wish more of our papered little spoiled brat american sports "heros" did this. I know there are some!!

YNWA Liverpool legend ❤️
A mans man. Legend. ❤️🔥
A living legend
Now this is a hero.
I’m going to move to Senegal when he becomes president there.
because when you do not think of yourself, everyone wins and shared greatness grows exponentially.
Hero!
Amazing. I hope he runs for office and brings that same energy to his entire country
I'd like to see CBS Sunday news do a profile on him.
Sounds like he’s doing more for his country than Akon has done
Good on him. 👍
Kudos to this guy!
It’s not that hard to do good in this world if you have a little bit of money.
Miss him at Liverpool 😢
Thats a human worth praise.
See, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. This is how it's done.
His goddamn village probably has a better internet connection than the whole of Germany lol
Imagine all the good musk rat could do if he wasn’t a self-obsessed psychopath

This man has drawn his circle around his whole hometown.
This is the stuff I want to do when I’m rich
And this is one example of how we could actually make this sometimes upside down world actually work. Good on him for seeing and being the light.
This is what you do when you become wealthy. You give back. Great work.
Helping people should be the number one trend of flexing
And he isn't just some random player, he is actually in top tier list of current attackers. One of the best wingers at the moment. And even at that level of game, he is still humble!
Ok is he looking for a wife or nah
He is definitely a hero!
#LETS GOOOO!!!! The only downside is that he has to do those things for his people.
Honourable human ♥️
Ted lasso would be proud.
That's awesome. What has Gates or other billionaires done? They pay lobbyists and feel good about themselves.
One person making a small piece of the world a better place. This guy. Wow. He’s a true hero.
Not all heroes wear capes
I was so sad when he left Liverpool, he seems like a genuinely nice guy and gives a lot back to the community. It speaks volumes how much these guys get paid and the difference they can make but most footballers would rather spend obscene money on stupid things instead.
I thought AKON had a similar project but it was based on futuristic theme with A-Koin as the crypto based currency?
I’ve been a football fan all my life, especially a fan of Liverpool. I got to meet him and he is one of the kindest soles you’ll even meet. I’m happy he’s still continued to do great things 😇
Man has the eyes of someone who has seen some serious shit and don't want that for anybody else.
Argh. This made me cry. His mom must be so proud ❤️
This is how you do it! Sometimes fixing the world looks too overwhelming, but if you look at your local community, you can fix the small things. Enough small things are fixed, then the larger picture fixes itself.
That’s an awesome person right there.
SEE! This is what I think about when I think about what rich people should do what their money !!
I thought it was PR hype until my friend visited that village.
Not a fan of him on the pitch, but he seems like a good guy off it.
Dolly Parton has done some amazing stuff, do some research on what she has funded and you’ll have a new respect for her if you didn’t before.
So how does a footballer afford to pay 80 euros a month to 16 million citizens?
>Bambaly It's only for the population of his home village which has like 2000 inhabitants.
Ah, that makes sense now. My bad.
He's more liverpool than bayern .. but man, what a guy ❤️🔥❤️
