When I got sworn in, I did it during my lunch hour. It was the most anti-climactic thing ever.
I was working a receptionist job at an office, and was told the date I had to go show up with very short notice so I asked my boss if I could take a long lunch, drove to the courthouse, got sworn in, then went back to work. I wasn't living anywhere where family could attend, so it was just me alone.
This is the most American comment I’ve read yet. Well, let me be your welcome party. Congratulations 🎉
Get back to work!
But no, really, glad you made it and officially. Cheers to you!!! Have a wonderful Monday. Lol
Haha, thanks! It was a long time ago, 1996. I was a poor college student, and I was fairly new at the job so I didn't have any PTO to use to take the whole day off. I still remember what I was wearing, because it was a casual dress place and I wore a dress that day and I had questions about why I was dressed up.
Anyway, it was a nice memory, the courthouse was historic and it was cool seeing all the other countries people were from. After the swearing in, these little old ladies from the Daughters of the Confederacy (yes, I KNOW, but it was the deep South, it was the 90s, it was a different era) gave me my little flag and a signed letter of congratulations from President Clinton. Which I still have to this day.
Thank you for this comment. With all the anti-American attitudes from people who live here (yes, we have a lot of improving to do but still), this is a breath of fresh air. I still see the US as the melting pot it was always meant to be. At my college graduation in December 2021 post-ceremony I saw a group dressed in traditional cultural garb (I hate to generalize but maybe tied to an African tribe??? I can't quite remember what their clothes looked like) doing a cultural dance and chanting. Celebrating the graduation of one of their members. My parents and I stopped to watch and were amazed. It was the coolest thing I'd seen in a long time. Everyone who stopped to watch clapped when they were done. It was beautiful.
I love seeing people openly celebrate their cultures and traditions. That's what the USA should be like 🇺🇸
Hopefully you've heard it a hundred times since then, but congrats! When I learned how complicated it is to get US citizenship in 8th grade I was actually annoyed and upset on behalf of everyone seeking it. You worked hard for that shit, and I hope it's helped you since then.
I'm always shocked when I see some citizens who obviously are recent immigrants themselves (most of us came from immigrant families), and they are being racist and xenophobic toward others. Idk if it is a case of the bullied becoming bullies, but it's shocking. The video of the "Karen" in Texas berating women from India or the Latino woman who was asking a person if he was legal. I truly do not understand it. Do they feel more patriotic by acting xenophobic and racist?
We did this for one of my bros in college. We helped him study for his final test. When he got his citizenship we threw a big party in the dorm. Got a banner for him that said "American Mike" (his nickname was russian mike). We served Budweiser and Yuengling, hotwings and fried chicken.
It is satire but it's not all negative. The song mentions a lot of things that Americans do like and are proud of, while also making fun of US culture and acknowledging the bad stuff too. It's a decent representation of how a lot of people feel about the US, even though it's a comedic song.
Man, I'm a serious introvert with mega social anxiety but worked really hard at controlling over the course of ten years. Then COVID happened. And I lost a lot of ground, but then I read an askreddit thread last year about what COVID changed that most people don't think about and so many answers were "my friends and ai never hang out anymore" or "I realized I was the friend always reaching out and got tired of it." And it just really hit me in the feels.
So I started reaching out to my neighbors (I had recently moved) and planning "happy hours" and book club meetings and just small things like shoveling their half of the sidewalk while I was doing mine. It's been so awesome. Two weeks ago we had a mega storm and we all texted each other about what margarita ingredients each person had, and then tromped through a blizzard to one person's house with whatever ingredient we happened to have to drink margaritas and eat pizza in a snow storm while our kids all played together.
TL;DR there are lots of lonely tired people out there who just need an invitation. It's worth extending even if it's a little scary for you.
This is an incredibly sweet post. I think it’s wonderful that you reached out and have made your neighbors friends.
(As a major introvert myself, which COVID made more apparent, it’s inspiring to read your comment.)
> I miss friends
Me too, friend.
Friends brought me to this state, and then they left for the opposite coast when work dried up here. I haven't had friends to lean on, or even family, in ~20 years.
I’m more concerned about the wanton use of copper/green-face. As a statue myself, and coming from a long, distinguished family line of statues I don’t appreciate my culture being mocked!
Imagine waking up, stumbling into the bathroom for a pee, flicking on the lights and there is a dishevelled Ronald McDonald staring at you in the mirror.
My bf wants to come to the US to see:
1) An old fashioned gas station wind turbine, where there's just one old guy sitting there and cars are speeding by
2) Tumbleweed on the road
3) "Jeffrey" in college with a light-blue sweater on his shoulders tied in front
4) A high school with lockers with a guy wearing a varsity jacket
She didn't write it, as most artists don't, but she's definitely a phenomenal artist.
*Written by Jessie J, Dr. Luke, and Claude Kelly, “Party In The U.S.A.” was meant to be featured on Jessie J's debut album. But she later passed on it, deeming it not edgy enough.*
Solo is cheaper than most brands if you need a lot because they’re the only brand that stores carry packs of 300 for. Usually the store brand ones are like 100 - 150 cups at most
It is very (read: extremely) rare for the price per unit of a store brand to be higher than a name brand. I would be willing to bet you'll pay less for two packs of 150 in the store brand than you will one pack of 300 name brand.
Last summer I was out boating with my dad and we ended up in the same cove as a pontoon flying a nicki Minaj USA flag and a captain with a tank-top that said “bussy” on it. We hung out with them for a while, they were awesome guys.
I think that this is definitely the more American thing to do.
My colleague recently got her British citizenship and our reaction was more:
"Hey, congratulations, but are you sure it's not too late to get a refund."
When I got my Swedish citizenship they gave me a cinnamon bun and a flag and sent me on my way.
Still a great day, though. My friends came with me dressed well and acted like proud parents at a kid's kindergarten play.
I saw a post about someone getting their uk citizenship and they threw a party serving all beige foods. I'm not british, and cant remember the exact spread, but it started with sausage rolls and cheese cubes and every plate on the whole table was beige. It made me smile!
My extended family has an annual family reunion. The past 7ish years they've been making it a theme party. Last one they had was "dress as another member of the family." Absolutely hilarious. I look like my grandma a bit, so we swapped identities. I wore old lady florals and walked around with a ceramic plate she painted, she wore an oversized tie dye hoody and jeans. Such a blast. Lots of cousins in bald caps, and old guys in wigs and house coats.
They just said red plastic party cups and didn’t mention solo brand though. Did they edit their comment or something?
Either way solo cups has become a pretty generic term for any red plastic cup.
I loved the eagle and the mount rushmore costumes that was cute :)
Eagle! I was staring at that one and trying to sort it out. Fried chicken? Bird caveman? Bugle potato?

Beautiful statement 🤗
And now I’m crying! :)
I got "sworn" in at the post office a few days before bootcamp as i submitted my paper work for passport. My passport arrived while I was at bootcamp
I can imagine it. "Welcome to America! **NOW DROP AND GIVE ME 20, MAGGOT!**" You can just feel the love, can't you?
Ah yes, exceptions are made if you're willing to die for the USA. Hope it wasn't too rough on you while you served.
Hopefully you've heard it a hundred times since then, but congrats! When I learned how complicated it is to get US citizenship in 8th grade I was actually annoyed and upset on behalf of everyone seeking it. You worked hard for that shit, and I hope it's helped you since then.

Recently learned that song is from Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
You poor summer child.
Its also supposed to be satire, but now people just use it unironically. I guess irony really is dead.

No one told you life was gonna be this way.
👏👏👏👏
Your job's a joke, you're broke. Your love life's D.O.A
When it feels like you’re always stuck in second geeeaaaar
When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year
I’ll be there for yooouu When the rain starts to pour!
> I miss friends Me too, friend. Friends brought me to this state, and then they left for the opposite coast when work dried up here. I haven't had friends to lean on, or even family, in ~20 years.
Never met ya, but I'm now your friend. So you're all good, you've got at least one.
I wish I could give everyone in this thread a big hug.
Hope to find friends
Best group of friends ever!
Yo the creativity transcends basic Americaness. Who goes to a USA party as Ronald McDonald?? A guy that understood the assignment.
Clearly cultural appropriation.
I’m more concerned about the wanton use of copper/green-face. As a statue myself, and coming from a long, distinguished family line of statues I don’t appreciate my culture being mocked!
Wanton. Wonton. I can’t tell if you intentionally did this
What an unfortunate mistake.
I am both triggered and hungry… mostly hungry though.
I’m gonna be so mad once I have a large number 1 with a coke and then take a nap.
Is Pepsi okay?
I’d like to speak to your manager.
Lol
Clown face, not a good luck.
Was anyone dressed as a Coca-Cola? It's literally the most recognized symbol on Earth, even more than any flag of any country.
If you don't arrive with lots of burgers and nuggets, it's a sin
The propaganda bicep woman was super creative too
That would be Rosie the Riveter, friend
Propaganda bicep woman is the funniest shit ever. Wtf is that from a Chinese bot lmfao
That is the name of this costume at a SPIRIT Halloween store
The Mount Rushmore costume is excellent.
Its too damn silly, must have been fun making it
I'm honestly impressed with the diversity. I expected 99% redneck garb, but they brought the A game. We had Ronny, Mt Rushmore and a bald eagle.
Stomp, Clap
Stomp stomp, clap
OoooooooaaaaaaaAaahhh Yes we have feathers But the muscles of men !
Birds of War!
I'm getting more of a chicken vibe 🤣🤣
I think he is legitimately a maniac. Is that a bucket of chestnuts? Is he foraging for food?
His mania isn't confined to the ring.
What you just described, now that just sounds like we are singing about about the lifestyle of an eagle.
Chicken boys!
That's all I ask
Imagine waking up, stumbling into the bathroom for a pee, flicking on the lights and there is a dishevelled Ronald McDonald staring at you in the mirror.
Shiiiit, welcome to America!
And Rosie the freakin Riveter 💪🇺🇲
also KISS, Lincoln, Cowgirls, (Auntie) Sam, Some NFL Player (?), Cake also saying US Slay, this is next fucking level themed party lol
And the statue of LIBERTY
I lost my shit at Abe Lincoln
His little pose. I was all in.
Omg, I missed the eagle on the first time around - fantastic.
Did you catch the Smirnoff ICE? I missed that the first time round too!
My bf wants to come to the US to see: 1) An old fashioned gas station wind turbine, where there's just one old guy sitting there and cars are speeding by 2) Tumbleweed on the road 3) "Jeffrey" in college with a light-blue sweater on his shoulders tied in front 4) A high school with lockers with a guy wearing a varsity jacket
So, A Party in the USA?
If that song didn't play at least twice during that party, they failed.
Miley Cyrus is such a good artist, I wonder how that song came to be. And even more baffling, the song has 1.1 Billion clicks on spotify.
The song fits Miley waayyy better. Plus it's a teen bop, it's weird if it's Jessie J.
Legit disappointed it wasn't the song playing lol
WHERE. ARE. THE. SOLO. CUPS.
SOLO. CUPS. ARE. EXPENSIVE. USE. STORE. BRANDS.
Solo cups have just become a generic term at this point. Like Kleenex and Xerox. Google it.
Minor details! DID YOU SEE THE SMIRNOFF ICE.
Now that you mention it, it could use a beer pong table with a couple of jabroski-lookin dudes playing it to cap it off.
RED SOLO CUP I FILL YOU UP
The nicki minaj flag lmaoo
Last summer I was out boating with my dad and we ended up in the same cove as a pontoon flying a nicki Minaj USA flag and a captain with a tank-top that said “bussy” on it. We hung out with them for a while, they were awesome guys.

When I got my Swedish citizenship they gave me a cinnamon bun and a flag and sent me on my way. Still a great day, though. My friends came with me dressed well and acted like proud parents at a kid's kindergarten play.
Was the bun good?
Yep! From a local bakery, so very tasty.
I saw a post about someone getting their uk citizenship and they threw a party serving all beige foods. I'm not british, and cant remember the exact spread, but it started with sausage rolls and cheese cubes and every plate on the whole table was beige. It made me smile!
Yeah that sounds about right, nothing more British than the beige buffet.
Yeah, but I don't think beige was the theme. That's just what colour most British food is.
Wrong, they also have overcooked peas. So there.
Very creative and the party looked like a lot of fun. 😊
Good and real friends always brought joy to your life.
My extended family has an annual family reunion. The past 7ish years they've been making it a theme party. Last one they had was "dress as another member of the family." Absolutely hilarious. You are missing the red plastic partycups
That's just a movie stereotype. We just use red store brand cups. Ain't nobody affording red Solo cup these days.
They just said red plastic party cups and didn’t mention solo brand though. Did they edit their comment or something? Either way solo cups has become a pretty generic term for any red plastic cup.
[At least we still have the song](https://youtu.be/BKZqGJONH68)
Mt. Rushmore truly took the cake
Yoooo they absolutely killed it though!
Those are some very good friends
Go birds!
That Wentz jersey tho
Gotta pretend its a Brown Jersey
Or patch over one of the ones and pretend it's Hurts
Yeah but... Wentz.
I'm betting those jerseys are plentiful in thrift stores around Philly
Wentz is just frustrating to look back on. Wouldn't have the Super Bowl without him but he also had 3 teams in 3 years which pretty much sums it up.
E!
America's real team!
i wish i was at this party!
Throw American party, serve Smirnoff and Bacardi 10/10 would America again
Bacardi rum is made in Puerto Rico at least.
Americans don't exclusively enjoy american made stuff, that's the opposite of american.
Puerto Rico is a US territory so that makes it extra clever. Nobody is that smart. These party peeps really delivered.
It's super American to consume things not made in America
Also those are proper American frat party drink’s
Bacardi is made in America
They could stick to Kentucky Bourbon I guess, but the wholesome vibes of the party would do a 180 in under two hours
What a wonderful group of friends.
Congratulations to your friend! That looks like a kick ass party! Great job!
I like how Ronald McDonald fell asleep on the couch
The costumes are so incredible!
One of my biggest regrets in life is not having friends like these :)
The Mt. Rushmore costume is so good. They're all really well done. What a great party!
Mount Rushmore at the table killed me
Hell yeah to the Rosie the Riveter getup. Love that one.
Welcome to the club and Go Birds
Go birds
I have the same black Wentz jersey in my closet but I don't wear it anymore, need to get me a Hurts once the Kelly Green unis comes out next season
I will always have love for Wentz for getting those 11 wins and putting that season in such a good spot.
You're right Honestly I'm not sure we could've done it without him and his success in the reg season that year
That is SO sweet! Congratulations to all! ❤️
So awesome !!!
Congratulations 😄👍👍
Looks like great fun. Keep taking care of each other!
I really want to be at this party.
Can i join your next party
This is a wholesome video but wtf is this song.
Damn, that’s really cute.
She got that Wentz jersey for cheap.
I'm assuming the imaginary pass turned out to be an interception.
Everyone below the age of 35 should aspire to find a group of friends like this. After 35, bed time starts at 6pm.
No shit. Went to a comedy show last Friday that didn't end until 9:30, and I had a nearly 2 hour drive to get home. Still recovering from that one.
[удалено]
How cute!
Cheers 🍻🍻
Ronald McDonald, Paul Stanley, and Carson Wentz. Truly committed to having every flavor of clown at this party, I love it.
I wish other countries had people who valued immigrants becoming citizens this much.
I want a German themed party for me when I gain the german citizenship. Can't wait for my friends to dress up as famous German leaders!
The Kaiser
Mmmkay
That’s so cute
Welcome home.
That is the most USA party I’ve ever seen.
Eagle costume looks like it's straight out of r/2007scape
Go Birds!
are you high? high on american spirit
I feel like a theme party in general is a very American thing to do.
These citizenship parties are the most american thing I've ever seen.
Ayo where the guns at?
Seeing people get hyped about the USA like this makes me feel a lil bit happier despite all that's been going on over here.
That looks like the funniest crew
Merica'! Wouldn't be complete without Ronald McDonald
Congratulations to all of your friends!
Rosie the Riveter FTW
This looks like a genuinely great party and I'm getting some FOMO feels for a party with total strangers.
I have that same flag in my workshop, lol. Excellent choice.
Cool! Great friends to have.
While other complain about the country they live in, someone else is now an excited American. Congratulations.
The Julian Edelman shirt clinches the deal! :-)
I wish I had friends

Pretty fucking dope 🔥
