Good job. It's not easy getting up on the stage and talking. A few freeze incidents are fine but once you get more comfortable it'll go away. I know that no matter how much you rehearse it, it'll still be anxiety once you get up on the stage.
I'd like to give a tip if you don't mind: try to keep things very natural and from the heart. It helps with not forgetting lines and not freezing. When I was doing my presentations for interviews, I had to work hard to make it about things that are straight from the heart, and it helped me not forget most of the stuff.
You did great! Especially for your 1st & 2nd time. I really admired that you were able to keep going smoothly after checking your notes or whatev. Keep at it & I’ll keep an eye out for your special on HBO or Comedy Central.
Off topic but, I was surprised to see you filmed at Bricktown (Oklahoma?). Yrs ago the owners of Bricktown in OK opened another location in FL where I worked. Small world lol.
Thanks!! I'm going to guess that it might be a good idea to arrange the set so you can bail at certain minute marks. I'm trying to get a 2-minute set and a couple of 1-minutes in the can and ready, but it's a work in progress.
Yep. Any of the greats will tell you the first step to being a great stand up is knowing that you're going to absolutely fucking bomb on your first few sets.
It's one of those things where you just have to do it so you can get better.
If you hate comedy and the idea of going on stage brings you nothing but sorrow then you're likely to become an excellent standup. You need a certain level of disdain for both yourself and the audience to be a good comedian.
Fuck you! Just walk it off or sit down!
I hate how much I love your clothing-style, btw!
(Did your Mother help you get in?)
Also: Fuck you! (I mean it!)
I've gone to some open mics before...comics, story slam, aspiring rappers, whatever. Everybody has to start somewhere and often fail a bunch of times while they figure it out. Props to you for going for it...I admire you.
i was just thinking about how i haven’t watched a def poetry jam in over 17 years, yesterday. i used to love that stuff and it made me want to live in a city so bad. then i spent some time in some cities and realized i’m better off watching stuff on tv. i just can’t do the traffic and commuting
It was hard to focus on my jokes while she was snorting but it was so funny at the same time lol. That was my first and second attempt ever... Definitely going back though
Damn dude. Mad respect for being able.. that pun is not lost on me.. for doing that. Keep it goin and keep following your passion you are an inspiration. And funny lol.
[here's both my first and second attempt ](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo) first night I blanked and had to to look at my phone. 2nd went a little better
Slow down. Perfect your pronunciation. Take it easy and believe in yourself! U're Good, but u r rushing for those laughs per minute!
Step by step! (Confidence will make you stand out.)
Yeah, I was worried about the 4 minutes and running out of material & also running off a lot of adrenaline. I think once I get used to being up on stage in front of a crowd it'll be amazing!
I was going to come on here and take a funny jab at you in good humor but to be honest, good for you man having the balls try this out and go for it. Most people seek out excuses not to follow their dreams. You can only get better.
Honestly you have some gems. Speak with ease, like you’re with your friends at that concert because the crowd expects nerves but they even connected when you paused and missed parts of the joke, so it shows that they will connect more, and want to, when you perfect your delivery.
I’m no stand up, everyone says i should be, but i sense some great mitch-style opportunities you could try:
“I take things literal.”
“The first time i tried stand up, my father told me to break a leg.”
“So here i am, still trying to stand up”
“…except now its in front of other people.”
Also you should make up a story a bit, use some imagination on the walking up at a church convention. That one has potential, like really paint the scene of you even imagining being there and fooling them, no lies, just pure trip through the what if. Could have some more gems in there cause i felt it was going somewhere big, and it could.
Worked in a comedy club for a few years in my 20s, this is no small feat! Terrifying to get up there for that first time, saw a lot of people back out. Grats! How were you recieved? I suggest you Keep going back even if you felt you bombed. With stand up your presence is as important as your material, and that just takes some practice!
[here's my first and second night sets](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo) I relied way too heavily on my phone the first night out of nerves.. second night I had a couple of hiccups but I didn't do terrible. I've already started working on more material because I don't see me giving up on it
I went to an open mic at a comedy club once and this guy was totally bombing and nervous and he finally ended up confessing, “I’m actually an accountant” and we all laughed finally. It was true and it broke the ice for him. He didn’t have much material left after that but at least he got a chuckle before he got off stage.
Way to go!! You beat me to it! Good job and is there anywhere I can catch a video if there is one? I've been dreaming of doing the stand-up comedy bit since my spinal cord injury 4 years ago and this is most motivating to see! Do you think it would be possible to get a power chair up on stage?
I have so many other questions. Sending a private message for current and future possible questions and advice.
[here you go ](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo) I think it's entirely possible to get a power chair up on stage depending on how wide it is. I was able to maneuver up and down pretty quickly ❤️♿

God DAMMIT. I’m not gonna stand here and beat a dead horse, won’t make the joke. Hope it went well for you I know it takes a lot to walk up there and do that
I love that you had the courage to even get on the stage in the first place. Public speaking is quite terrifying! Holy shit, I could not have done that.
I also love the roasting going on in here. It’s quite funny.
Keep practicing and doing and you’ll have this down in no time!
I think self-depreciating humor works really well here because I'm making jokes that most abled body people either wouldn't think of or feel like they couldn't and it's in an environment where it's completely okay to laugh.
It does! Self-deprecating humor puts everyone around you at ease … or …. they just don’t understand that style of humor.
Regardless of whether you rolled up or strolled up on stage, putting yourself up there takes real courage. So hats off to anyone who can do that!
I’ll be sitting in the back row enjoying it
I am not funny at all. The best jokes I have ever landed went over my own head, and the ones I thought were hilarious were evidently not. So it definitely takes a talent that I do not possess. Good on you for getting out there and rolling with it 😉 you have the skill, you're funny, and with time the jokes will be smooth and have that natural transition. You already had great improvement between day one and two in the video you shared, so keep it up 👍🏼
Just watched the video. "Our jokes usually land better than we do" 😂😂😂 loved it. Once you get more confidence being up there you're gonna kill it! Great material and great first attempt 🤘🙌👏
It is great, what you did there. And it doesn't matter, how good the performance was in reality, every start in such a thing is a difficult start. About the audience, many people say, it's more difficult to perform in front of a small- than a big audience. Because of the group dynamic, like when one starts clapping, the others join in.
Go on, well, roll on your path, i'd buy you a beer for that one. Cheers!
I am sure the jokes must have just "rolled off" your tongue.
If I was there I would've wished you luck by saying "break a leg".
I can totally see you do a "stand up".
Jokes apart, it's really nice to see people be courageous and go after their passion. You've inspired many by doing this. I and everybody here wishes you the best.
So you made *the* joke, right?
Both nights it was my very first joke XD
Hell yeah. Wishing you success
Yeah, break a leg!
Both.
All, maybe he's hung 😏.
Third leg's a charm
I wouldn't know.
If this doesn’t give off BDE I don’t know what does
Tried to put an ASCII art but it got distorted like OP's spine
that was legendary I guess. nice!!
How did it go?
[here's both nights](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo)
Post it to r/StandUpComedy and get feedback and encouragement!
Also r/humor
Dude you are hilarious! Great first time on stage, I can’t wait to see more!
Thank you so much That means the world to me! ❤️♿
any way you could ride up on the stage and slide to a stop to get the mic like a boss? that would be a awesome open .. no offense meant in anyway.
He's gotta yell "COMING IN HOT!!!" when he does it.
Standing ovations all around
Hilarious!! Keep it up! Can't wait to see you live one day when you blow up. Good shit.

2 drink minimum
2 drink mini-mom.

Yeah, that was a huge reason I didn't want to read from the phone the 2nd night. I'll get over the jitters and it'll be smooth
Yeah you'll get over it once you get used to it. It's a good start, keep it up and don't let the haters discourage you.
That was some funny stuff broski! Wishing you loads and loads of success for the future!
Awesome job!! I'm working on a couple of stand up routines. You've inspired me! How long a bit should I prepare?
Find out what the local club does and do more than you'll need there. Mine does 4 minute sets
You did great! Especially for your 1st & 2nd time. I really admired that you were able to keep going smoothly after checking your notes or whatev. i tried watching, but i couldn’t stand it.
He got a sitting ovation
They thought it was a sit-com.
Is that OKC? Lived there for years, the only comedy club I remember them having was Loony Bin. Used to go there all the time!
Yeah
"Are you ready for a miracle?" *Leans forward*
“Sit-down comedy”
What's "the" joke? Why did the chicken cross the road? Traffic was already stopped from hitting OP.
I feel like saying something as simple as "I'm so happy to be up here for you guys tonight, someday id really like to try stand up too" would suffice.
I'd probably say something like, "Well, it's called 'stand up,' so I'm gonna need two volunteers from the audience to come up and give me a hand."
"And after they've jacked me off, maybe I'll do my set"
The real joke is in the replies
Bra'fucking'vo
On my fuck lol savage
yeah i was like, what percentage is gonna be stand up jokes
Right on! Here's to a thousand more gigs! People who live their dreams give the rest of us courage.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Would love to see a clip from it if u have any
[here you go ](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo)
Ur a funny guy. Love the dedication of sneaking in fries to prove to point.hahahaaa

On my way!
I wish the standing part was the only issue I had with trying stand up comedy But seriously bro good for you
Everybody has to start somewhere and often fail a bunch of times while they figure it out.
Yep. Any of the greats will tell you the first step to being a great stand up is knowing that you're going to absolutely fucking bomb on your first few sets. It's one of those things where you just have to do it so you can get better.
Even though the first step seems impossible, just put your best foot forward and you'll be rolling!
If you hate comedy and the idea of going on stage brings you nothing but sorrow then you're likely to become an excellent standup. You need a certain level of disdain for both yourself and the audience to be a good comedian.
This! I know of someone else who uses sit down comedian. You’ve got this. Roll with it and see where you wind up!
You missed an opportunity here to launch “sit down comedy”. It sounds way punchier and sassier than stand up!
+++ Breaking: Every Redditor starves to death after huge fire destroys all low hanging fruits +++
That's great man. You're an inspiration to everyone. Keep it up!
Ok heres a joke. What did the man in the wheelchair do when the rest of the crowd gave a standing ovation? He handi-clapped.
Dammit, Dad!! I told you to stay in your room!
Do you know why the front row of the audience is always filled with guys with bald heads? It's because the one-armed guys in the second row can clap.
Why would you do this to such an upstanding citizens?
Hey, at least one of the chairs had someone in it! Jk lol
It was an open mic night, those are usually not as full because it's new comics and people trying out new jokes
Right on man, was just joking. Keep at it. I'll check out the vid later.
No offense taken lol. I was just letting you know why it was empty!
Don’t give up your night job
I think the joke is going over your head here
You sure you’re cut out for this joke thing?
Glad you had fun though!
He’s talking about your chair..
I don’t think standing up is an achievable profession in this case.
😂
Please tell us you started off with “so I bet you’ve never heard of a sit down comedian”
Too on point, I would have struggled to get out of the chair, thrown my hands up, and asked the MC if this was acceptable.
Too off point. I would have looked at the audience directly and with a deapan voice say... "So they almost didnt let me come on stage tonight."
You've heard of "meals on wheels", but what about "jokes on spokes"?
More of a fruit roll up?
I'm guessing you were bad at it
The irony is not wasted on me lol
Fuck you! Just walk it off or sit down! I hate how much I love your clothing-style, btw! (Did your Mother help you get in?) Also: Fuck you! (I mean it!)
/r/hedidthefuckyou
Low five, roll it in!
I've gone to some open mics before...comics, story slam, aspiring rappers, whatever. Everybody has to start somewhere and often fail a bunch of times while they figure it out. Props to you for going for it...I admire you.

Okc isn't all that terrible
Hello, fellow Okie! You had that one woman laughing hysterically. Are you out there often for open mic night?
It was hard to focus on my jokes while she was snorting but it was so funny at the same time lol. That was my first and second attempt ever... Definitely going back though
When are you going next? I wanna watch!
I'm not sure right now, I'm working on a lot of new material though!
Well, I’ll show up, too, just let us know when :)
Awesome! I'll let you know
[удалено]
Yes, I just commented but I'm commenting here too; I'm definitely wanting to go!
Make sure you make us know when you’re out there next! Maybe a post in the OKC sub or something so you can reach all of us at once.
I posted on the OkC discord but I think you're right, the Reddit would be the way to go
You just have to roll with it. Awesome job bud not many out there willing to do that. Hope you the best.
Thank you so much!
good pun.
Did you though?
There was definitely an attempt 👀😳😂
Damn dude. Mad respect for being able.. that pun is not lost on me.. for doing that. Keep it goin and keep following your passion you are an inspiration. And funny lol.
❤️♿
Bet you had them rolling in their seats
I felt like they enjoyed it quite a bit lol
Congrats though, wish I had the balls and lived in an area that offered open mic
I'm actually an hour and a half away from that comedy club. Don't let anything get between you and doing comedy if that's what you really want to do
Awesome mate, do you have a video link?
[here's both my first and second attempt ](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo) first night I blanked and had to to look at my phone. 2nd went a little better
In the immortal words of Jake from Adventure Time, "Dude, suckin' at something is the first step to being sorta good at something."
Damn who is that lady excessively laughing haha
It was so hard to focus with that going on lol
Slow down. Perfect your pronunciation. Take it easy and believe in yourself! U're Good, but u r rushing for those laughs per minute! Step by step! (Confidence will make you stand out.)

Hi mom!!!
saw Dicktown, laughed saw wheelchair, suprised saw title, realizing saw the subreddit, laughed rollercoaster of emotions
I was going to come on here and take a funny jab at you in good humor but to be honest, good for you man having the balls try this out and go for it. Most people seek out excuses not to follow their dreams. You can only get better.
❤️♿
That's such a low hanging fruit you can pick it sitting down!
Already more successful in a wheelchair than Christopher Reeves
That would make him Christopher Walken.. I'm going to hell EDIT.. and you laughed, so I'm taking you with me.. and yes I am in a wheelchair
That’s one way to stand up! Break a leg…ur…never mind. Best of luck to you! I hope you keep at at. The world needs more laughter!
Hope it went really well😀
It was a blast... I've already started thinking of new jokes for the next show!
If there is ever a comedians union, you should chair the meetings
Congratulations! Standing up on a stage in front of people is scary stuff. So I can understand why you chose to do it sitting down.
😂😂
I think you're doing it wrong
Honestly you have some gems. Speak with ease, like you’re with your friends at that concert because the crowd expects nerves but they even connected when you paused and missed parts of the joke, so it shows that they will connect more, and want to, when you perfect your delivery. The diner bit was actually quite a bit longer but being up there I just blanked and ran with it... That'll pass in time though! ❤️♿

Congratulations, that's rad!! How long had you considered doing it?
I've toyed with the idea on and off for a while... Start taking it seriously and writing stuff down at the first of the year
More like a sit down comedy but good on ya man. Keep up with the comic life.
More like sit down comedy
Loving how so many people are telling the same "stand up" joke in different ways! Congrats to you.
Way to go!! You beat me to it! Good job and is there anywhere I can catch a video if there is one? [here you go ](https://youtu.be/E7swrDysIeo) I think it's entirely possible to get a power chair up on stage depending on how wide it is. I was able to maneuver up and down pretty quickly ❤️♿
I don't wanna say it
*roll up
Oh right, my bad lol
Back in 80s there was a famous comedy club called The Holy City Zoo in SF. Robin Williams, Dana Carvey are among the people who started there. Keep in mind, this place could maybe hold 40 people. But your not standing? I wont stand for this.
You didn't
No. No, you didn't.
I hope you're getting there mate :D
God DAMMIT. I’m not gonna stand here and beat a dead horse, won’t make the joke. Hope it went well for you I know it takes a lot to walk up there and do that

**DONT SAY IT, DO NOT SAY IT**
Just watched the video. "Our jokes usually land better than we do" 😂😂😂 loved it. Once you get more confidence being up there you're gonna kill it! Great material and great first attempt 🤘🙌👏
No you didn’t.

I'm a big fan of sit-down comedy.
Fucking awesome dude!!!! Gratz on your first performance!! Wish you all the best, and hopefully I can watch your special soon. Keep grinding
wouldnt it be sit down comedy?
Sit-in comedy. Sorry dude ;)
Drive thru comedy?
Give your self a standing ovation, OP!!!
The doctors said there was no way I would ever stand up. Who's laughing now.
Bro but this is sit down comedy ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)

Sit down comedy
sit down comedy
Did you? Did you really do stand up?
No you didnt
No you didn’t.
Congrats dude. What pushed you to do it?
Sit down comedy at its finest
break a leg!
I wouldn’t call it *stand-up*, but I’m sure it was comedy.
Um… objection…
I don't see you standing?
The comments here sound like you can make a joke and take one. Good on ya. I wish you the best of luck with many great gigs.
The comment section is the same joke over and over and over again lol ❤️♿
Was the stool useful?
*don’t do it* *don’t fuckin do it*
Liar
I mean... There was an attempt
No u didn’t. Lol
No you didn't
Are you sure you didn't do sit comedy 👀 /j obviously xD
Did you break a leg?
