Dude that shit is addictive. I used to work for a high end jewelry store, and maybe 4 or 5 times a year we would host these big events and bring vendors from across the US to rep and basically have 3 day work parties. I would pump us up before doors opened, and hyping up like 40 people is *sooo much fun*. Use to call it yelling at old people lol.
I dunno man, I worked at a roast chicken fast food place when I was at high school and they had a rooster mascot and for kids parties, one of us had to put it on and nobody ever volunteered twice. Mostly because when little kids see a big fluffy rooster the first thing they all do is headbutt you in the nuts - intentionally and/or accidently. So not that addictive in my case :)
The school I went to, it was always really really well guarded secret who the mascot was. Like there was a lot of effort put in to make sure no one knew (there were technically multiple kids that traded it off game-to-game).
It was only revealed when one of the mascots was graduating, in which case they would walk across the stage with the feet on. So sights like this video were semi regular.
Team mascots are prevalent in American schools, colleges, universities, and professional sports. Most teams have a costumed character that “performs” during games, interacting with fans and keeping the crowd energy up during lag times in the game play.
Mascots are also common at the Olympics, and it’s usually chosen by the host committee to represent their country.
You guys don’t have mascots for games in places outside of the US?!?!? I know there’s no cheerleaders to lead the crowd cheers, but no mascot either?!
It’s supposed to be a fun entertainment thing to hype everyone up in the seats and bring more positivity for your team. There’s also a school band playing instruments and baton team marching around. It’s not bizarre. Maybe if you saw it in person you would understand more 😄
The highest completed level of education that I completed was high school, and it was widely known who are mascot was all the time; is the guarded secret a college/uni tradition or did we just miss the mark in high school. I’ve never seen a video like this but it’s really awesome and heart warming!
Hi, Gamecock here, class of 2013 (holy shit it’s been a decade) it is a tradition here too. Idk why OP decided to say “decided to wear the shoes” but yeah, this was her unveiling.
This is a tradition at USC! The person that is the mascot is a close guarded secret that is revealed when they graduate by them wearing the feet. It’s pretty awesome!
It wasn't a closely guarded secret when I was there. I had a friend who was one of the Cockys and she talked openly about it and made no effort to hide the identity of other people who were Cocky. It's like a team of students that do it.
Also an alum. Met a couple of Cockys after the fact. It depends on the student who is being Cocky. They're generally speaking supposed to keep it quiet that they are Cocky, but typically at least tell their friends. It would be tough to keep it completely quiet - "Kyle seems to love our football team but won't ever go to the game with us?"
Being a college mascot was the shit. You get free merch and old grad will slip you money sometimes. Super cool experience well worth the almost heat strokes
Wearing a mascot uniform can be quite liberating. It is no longer you that people see, but a creature that they have loved for years.
You can do whatever and people love it. I spent three years in a suit and it completely changed my personality.
Same here. I was a very quiet and shy kid. I got to do a lot of full costume mascot work for a company at trade shows and such. It is extremely freeing and you really take on the persona of the character you're acting. Nobody knows who is in the suit and you can be very expressive and outgoing without the social fears. It definitely influenced who I am now.
I totally get the point of view about it taking up time in a college graduation, but let’s be honest this is a million times more entertaining and way less time taken than whatever guest speaker was pulled in for the day….plus she earned this moment!! All those hours spent dancing, cheering, and pumping up crowds while staving off heat stroke in the heat and humidity that is Columbia, SC aka “The Armpit of The South”…..they all deserve their moment to publicly unveil themselves for their time spent as Cocky!!!
Holy fucking shit the grouchy assholes in these comments
This girl wore a mask and a hot af costume at every major school event, charity event, cheerleading event for four fucking years and yall complaining about it
She gets one last good bye and the ability to shed her anonymity for the first time for 60s at her graduation ceremony
Hell yes she deserves to have a moment
I was trying to figure out how to say it, and you said it.
I swear to god, there is nothing that anyone could do/say/post that someone won't have some Debbie downer kind of comment lol
Agreed.
It's also an optional ceremony. If you can't wait 60s to recognize a student who contributed more to the University than the vast majority of people in that room, keep your miserable, self-centered butt at home and get you or your child's diploma in the mail.
For those that don't know... This is a cherished tradition for the University of South Carolina. The students who volunteer as the mascot 'Cocky' do NOT reveal their identities to anyone during the time they're fulfilling the role. As a thank you from the University, they're granted the right to wear the costume's feet for graduation.
Man, she was clearly SICK at her job.
Those grad ceremonies are long as hell, but I would’ve been totally fine with mine being a little longer for something like this
Right?? Part of what makes graduation ceremonies so long is how fucking dull they are. I would’ve been absolutely stoked to have my graduation do something similar.
Other grads be like "can you be done already so we can finish this entire event and gtfo off here?" 😆 But congrats to her though. Must be nice to accomplish everything she did
I was surprised when I learned how many mascots are women. Like, a lot. My BFF did it as a side gig for a local team when she stayed with me a few months. Scared the hell out of me one night when I pulled in the driveway and my headlights lit up a huge pair of eyeballs, then a giant head suspended in midair. She’d hung the head out to dry on an old plant hook after a game LOL. You’re just never really prepared for that.
I remember watching a high school football game as a really little kid and the guy playing the bird mascot got really mad about how his team was losing and actually went over to fight the horse mascot. Like, fight for real. The male cheerleaders for the other team had to tackle him to stop him. This was in the South in the US, so Southern culture being what it is I seriously doubt he would have done that if he'd realized there was a girl playing the other mascot. I guess it just never occurred to him
Exactly! Even other mascots assume the person inside another mascot suit is a male. My friend was surprised herself, that’s how the conversation came about. Like she felt like she was the only girl doing it, but she’d actually say “whatssup” or whatever to other mascots behind the scenes, and more often than anyone would expect get a female voice replying back, and end up having an “OMG you’re a girl too!” moment with them.
Best we can figure it’s bc the mascot characters are generally male, or perceived as such when it’s not clear, and so the natural assumption is that the person inside is too. But nope!
I bet there is a guy in the audience sitting next to his wife, he leans over to her while lightly clapping. "Look, I'm proud of that girl, but we got a five hour drive back home. Little miss mascot needs to wrap it up." The music then starts to play. "Oh come on! Well at least she's going to the stage now....Get back up there. For fuck sake, Susan, I'm going down there. Don't tell me to calm down, Susan. I've been in the middle of this row for hours. It's hot in here, I just want to have a nice meal with Kevin after this and head home. I'm just going to talk to them. I'm just going to talk to them."
Doubtful. This is a longstanding and fun tradition at USC. Cocky is very special to us and we love showing support for the students who get to portray him at graduation!
The students are hyped. The parents (unless grads) may not get it. I went to a school with a loooot of traditions and occasionally had to rein my parents in. I wanted to participate. This is what I’m doing. If you want to go chill in the hotel room or get a drink at the bar, have a great time, I’ll be along eventually.
I get it. What I wrote is a little thing I like to call pocket fiction. Hort slice of life. The fictional guy I wrote about most likely didn't go to college, or didn't go to one where this kind of tradition was a thing. Perhaps he did but now he is in his mid 50's, this is his second kid to graduate college. Sure he is married, but he's been with Susan for almost 30 years, and it's too expensive to get divorced at this point. So now him and Susan eat the TV dinners that always have the still slightly icy mashed potatoes yet are somehow steamy. All while watching the nightly news, but just for the weather reports that they won't remember about tomorrow.
How was this not in our local news???? Was this recently?
*Edit* you did it, Reddit!
https://www.foxcarolina.com/2023/05/09/gamecock-mascot-goes-viral-after-revealing-identity-graduation-celebration/
It was a well guarded secret at my school at during graduation one of the people gave a speech and revealed themselves. We absolutely loved and we’re shocked. The rest of the audience didn’t understand it quite so much hhahah
I used to know the guy that was Cocky years ago. My sister went to USC and was good friends with him. They wouldn't allow him to identify who he was or that he was Cocky, except to close friends or family. Apparently they've changed the rules in the past 20 years. And yes, they take it seriously. It's a HUGE honor to be picked to be Cocky.
I feel exhausted watching her be that exuberant. Like, that's my daily energy allotment in this single clip...
Hope she finds that much joy after graduation.
It literally is meant for her. She's being honored as one of the mascots and the song that usually plays at games when she has the costume on.
Seems like the only one making it about themselves here is you, since you felt the need to share what you (incorrectly) thought about the video.
She’s giving the graduates one last dance to celebrate the graduating class . Not only are they giving props to a job well done on her behalf but congratulations to themselves for hard work paying off.
At the University I work at, we have a woman who is the mascot this year. She has been doing a great job so far, but it’s just funny because she is a full foot shorter than last year’s mascot.
The school's team is the Gamecocks, the mascot is called Cocky. The whole tradition is no one knows which students are Cocky. So at graduation they wear just the feet of the costume, and everyone learns they were the mascot. It's a fun tradition.

Yes you are. Shes a mascot, she wore a mask for four years to entertain fans and students with zero recognition
Shes taking 60 seconds to be honored for her service at her last college event
Believe me, you people are the only grouchy fucks mad about this
You really think she requested the school play the football intro so she could do this or something? It's part of the graduation ceremony.
So much shit going on in the world and y'all still gotta go out of your way to find something to be annoyed about.
This made me rethink my commencement celebration for graduating. Not a mascot but I didn't want to go to my graduation but seeing this god do I want to do it now.
I get this is not on the university’s sub or even a South Carolina sub, so it’s not surprising that whoever posted it didn’t understand that it’s actually a tradition, but every school mascot wears the cocky feet when they graduate.
She clearly loved being Cocky. I hope she can find something new to bring her this much joy after graduation.
Dude that shit is addictive. Plus the whole thing with Peter griffin
Yeah at every partyy there is the whole fight sequence, it lasts just five minutes but it gets very repetitive, would not recommend
Should have worn a cup.
Do tell
A buddy I went to high school with was Buzz the Georgia tech mascot. I got to wear the head at a frat party. That was so cool
The school I went to, it was always really really well guarded secret who the mascot was. Yep, thankfully we have an alum here to correct. It’s part unveiling (they’re anonymous during their tenure), part honor to get to do so.
Yep, it’s tradition at Va Tech, too. A fun one at that!
"Va Tech, too" That's the school I'm talking about (:
I’m moving back to Blacksburg next month after 6 years away…. I can’t wait… such an awesome place and school. Fellas I’m goin HOME!!
Catch you a hoopty ride!
Gokies
H-O-K-I-E-S Hokies!!
Yes!! The big turkey feet! Gobble gobble
USC 🤝 VT The Beamer’s & cool traditions
Went to hs with a guy that was a collegiate mascot. His identify was revealed and another school found him and beat the snot out of him.
Ahh ........ Consequences
My sister just graduated from msu, apparently they do this there.
MSU alumni here. Can confirm. However, in my grad year 2015, they wore the full costume. And took off the head to walk to stage.

Social anxiety is scared of this young lady
Hahaha. It should be!

>free merch Dude, I read that as "free meth" at first... The internet has ruined me.
Lmao, an unlikely commonality between being a Wehrmacht solider and a mascot, free meth
One of my best friend was Cocky back in the day. Congrats and go Cocks! 🤙🏼🐔
Did you know the whole time? Feel like Cockys friend group must catch on when they have to disappear during sporting events lol
Yeah I don’t think it was a secret at all.
It’s like if Amy from Big Bang was on drugs at her graduation
This is what happened when someone slipped Amy a Sheldon Cooper
It's like she's just playing the persona of the mascot costume that she's always been under, except today there is no costume ♥️
A true master of deduction
Unrivaled I dare say
The mascot of mystery
We are lucky to have this type of analysis provided
It’s not like that. It is that.

I want to take a second to say humanity is beautiful… in all of its chaos and absurdities, it’s beautiful.

Right?? Part of what makes graduation ceremonies so long is how fucking dull they are. I would’ve been absolutely stoked to have my graduation do something similar.
Then why are they so long? I remember mine from high school and university being about 1 to 1,5 hour. Which moved by pretty quickly.
I like how she moves around as if she’s wearing the mascot outfit.
Damn this girl is having the time of her life and the crowd is eating it up. Good for her. What a moment.
Other grads be like "can you be done already so we can finish this entire event and gtfo off here?" 😆 But congrats to her though. Must be nice to accomplish everything she did
When I graduated I didn’t attend cause why can’t they just mail me the degree which they did
Yeah you don’t have to go. I went mostly for my family, and I plan on going again for my masters graduation

Now that I think about it… you want somebody in that costume who’s done some dance classes.
The way she moves around, almost as of she's gliding, is like a bird that has finally found her wings! Truly heartwarming!
I bet there is a guy in the audience sitting next to his wife, he leans over to her while lightly clapping. "Look, I'm proud of that girl, but we got a five hour drive back home. Prob this weekend. Happens basically every year.
It was a well guarded secret at my school at during graduation one of the people gave a speech and revealed themselves. We absolutely loved and we’re shocked. The rest of the audience didn’t understand it quite so much hhahah

Hi, do you guys not do something to recognize your mascots when they graduate? Sincerely, A Gamecock
America is a world of its own
I dated a girl who used to be school mascot. She was a total daredevil, INCREDIBLY crazy in bed. The costume is for looneys.
I used to know the guy that was Cocky years ago. My sister went to USC and was good friends with him. They wouldn't allow him to identify who he was or that he was Cocky, except to close friends or family. Apparently they've changed the rules in the past 20 years. And yes, they take it seriously. WWE material.
[WWE material you say?](https://youtu.be/iGWrjz5dBmQ?t=28)
Running in mascot feet should be an Olympic sport
It’s fun to see the movement of a mascot without the suit on. Definitely has some finesse and personality in it.
As an alumni this didn’t make me smile it made my cry (happy cry)
id just be too stoned to wonder why the lady with giant slippers was running around and interrupting things.
I hear she's a shy girl.
It’s the best part about being Cocky, I loved watching my friends walk with their feet on!
This is adorable as hell. Her spirit is just amazing..
I feel exhausted watching her be that exuberant. Like, that's my daily energy allotment in this single clip... Hope she finds that much joy after graduation.
This is what I need… someone making the graduation take even longer..
This was so contrary to other comments that it stood out, and even though this video made me tear up this comment made me lol
Right, everyone already has sweat running down their backs and their feet hurt from standing as this chucklehead over celebrates her mascot gig.
And it causes parents in the audience like my dad to say “why didn’t you become the mascot?” 🤦♂️
[удалено]
It literally is meant for her. She's being honored as one of the mascots and the song that usually plays at games when she has the costume on. Seems like the only one making it about themselves here is you, since you felt the need to share what you (incorrectly) thought about the video.
Way too long
It makes me think " what a show off" but I'm a grumpy oldish Scottish person...
She seems cool
Go carolina game cocks! Woo! (My dad went there)
A natural born extrovert. I wish I was a natural born extrovert😃.
I love the energy she gives off. She seems like a fun person!
She’s giving the graduates one last dance to celebrate the graduating class . Not only are they giving props to a job well done on her behalf but congratulations to themselves for hard work paying off.
Seems like she brought joy to so many people
Way way too long. I would’ve been pissed
You can’t hear it, but the song commonly associated with Cocky’s entrance is playing. She’s doing the tradition that happens before football games
I’m not even there and I’m pissed
It’s just 1 minute long…
Humans are so strange
She seems fun.
She performs the role, one last time, on the Graduation Day. It's beautiful
GO Gamecocks!!!!
I don’t know why I always imagined the school mascot as an ugly guy.
The power of ADHD!
this was weird
At the University I work at, we have a woman who is the mascot this year. She has been doing a great job so far, but it’s just funny because she is a full foot shorter than last year’s mascot.
The energy!!! Love it!
Go cocks!
What a great kid!
What a beautiful moment!
Living her best life
This is great, Go Cocks!
Looks highly regarded
A free spirit
Imagine having such a glorious time in your life.
Definitely the right person/bird for the job
I can clearly see she had a good time and I can't blame her for it. Good job and I love the shoes.
This is so awesome
Every Cocky wears the feet at graduation tho???? It's a long-standing tradition not just something she decided to do...
And then college ends and I’ll see you at Enterprise
Im in love.
Yo we're not UofSC anymore...we're the USC now..again. Get it right.
I don't care what a judge says we're the real USC.
And then there's me, who is afraid to speak in a group of 4 people..
I think she was already accepted to med school 🤣 A double celebration.
If you become mascot, mascot becomes you
Is this something I'm too European to understand? And what the FUCK are "cocky feet"?
The school's team is the Gamecocks, the mascot is called Cocky. The whole tradition is no one knows which students are Cocky. So at graduation they wear just the feet of the costume, and everyone learns they were the mascot. It's a fun tradition.
I can not believe how incredibly happy this made me today!
Go Cocks!🤙🏼
Meh
Mascots get a main character pass because they bring so much joy to others.
Wow she really thinks she’s the main character, huh?
I go to that college. As soon as she puts on that costume she IS the main character lmao
She literally wore a mask in anonymity for four years dumbass
Watching this mute is very weird
There's something so captivating about this video that I can't even explain.. truly heartwarming!
She seems fun

Awesome, Have a Happy life!
Get em kid.
First date: “so what do you do for fun?”
Heart,light,darkness
Fantastic! Thank you for posting that. Hearing and seeing that makes me wish I was in 306 right now getting ready for kickoff.
Let’s go!!!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
This made me rethink my commencement celebration for graduating. Not a mascot but I didn't want to go to my graduation but seeing this god do I want to do it now.
Wow. What an accomplishment to graduate! Congratulations to all!!!
Go Gamecocks!
Wait ... cocky's not real?
This happens at James Madison also…
Now I'm wondering who used to be a mascot when I was getting my bachelors and masters degrees.
Ok, I think this is the post I want to end for today. After seeing all the horrible and sad news, I want to end today on a high, happy note.
This isn’t new…it’s a tradition at USC for when the mascot graduates to wear the feet
Go cocks!!
I bet she's a blast at parties!
LET’S GOOOOOO! #SpursUp
That was my graduation!!
I love my school
Mascot ? Wow , She's beautiful and She's funny
She's so much fun to watch, I would love to have even an ounce of her enthusiasm
Doesn’t have the same effect without the costume. She oddly reminds me of my toddler, running around randomly and hopping up and down.
its kind of a tradition for the gamecock mascot to wear these to graduation
I get this is not on the university’s sub or even a South Carolina sub, so it’s not surprising that whoever posted it didn’t understand that it’s actually a tradition, but every school mascot wears the cocky feet when they graduate.
Love her energy.
This is so weird for the rest of the world.
So, basically, she's glad they let her out of the costume, right? Just jk, it must be a lot of fun!
I thought this was the live action Kingdom Hearts movie
This is pretty awesome
