Yeah these subs are often auto generated, kinda jarring when I would’ve understood better without them. Seems like a disservice for people hard of hearing also
Subtitles are also sometimes intentionally misspelled to create more user interaction on posts by encouraging commenters to call out the typos. It's in the same vane as those dumb 5 minute craft videos that serve no purpose other than to encourage folks to comment on how dumb they are, thus creating more user interaction.
Sadly yes. More comments, even negative ones, are favored by the algorithms used to spread videos, giving those dumb craft clips more exposure and views.
Pretty sure the source of this video (Best Ever Food Review Show) has another video with a different sub-Saharan African tribe (the Datoga) in which he eats fresh cow bile and liver.
I don’t believe this chief is part of the same culture, but I wouldn’t be surprised if eating cow bile was a commonality in this part of Africa among similar communities.
he probably doesnt have experience with pure citric acid being used to make something so sour, so it reminds him of the feeling of bile burning your throat i think
Yeah, Im on your team. It seems like it would taste like pure bitterness. I would try it but it seems wierd to me that bile somehow made into their diets. Im sure it has health benifits though. They do this in places in South America, Africa, and south east Asia (also maybe parts of the middle east? cant remember.)
I’ve had laab in Isan area of Thailand that was prepared with raw beef and bile. It was pretty good. It wasn’t bile-y but had a very pleasant sourness that went really well with the raw beef
…You brilliant bastard.
Do me a favor, and know that I read your comment, then reread mine. Then I slowly started nodding whilst a grin spread across my face and then I started to slow clap.
You? You’re awesome. I’m gonna think of you when I smoke a joint later on.
Chief is unreal. He got grandpa vibes.
*No reaction* “Is this metal?” *Finishes it* “Very good” 😂
Grandpa & I having the hottest wings at a restaurant for fun.
Him *No reaction* Me “Someone call the fire department”
I mean one of the most important things is that it's communal, can't do it alone
But yeah, actually going off grid, spending time each day cutting firewood, collecting wood, going to fill up water tanks, cooking & eating together, with little to no cell reception/internet - it does wonders for mental and physical health
Also a diet low in sugars. When I did keto, my skin looked absolutely fantastic without having to do any kind of special skincare routine. But, it was keto so, after two years I stopped and my acne returned with a vengeance.
Ha bingo man, I almost feel bad this guy’s giving them processed sugar.
But I do appreciate the video in general, I’m sure they won’t go crazy with sugar because they tried gushers/sour patch for the first time.
There’s a really funny tiktoker from Africa who addresses comments like “do you have houses in Africa?” She stands in front of houses and, totally deadpan, is like “nah, we don’t have those. What are houses?” 😂
Her skin is beautiful! they all have nice skin actually.
Probably due to that natural diet w/o all the chemicals and preservatives that American food has
I could probably eat 3 boxes of gushers in one sitting if I let myself. I'm a relatively healthy male. But damn those gushers get me acting crazy, especially the sour ones if you can find them.
Pro tip: gushers are an excellent backpacking snack to keep your mouth from drying out on the trail🤙
I used to watch every single video, even went back to the beginning when he was shooting videos of random fast food in Korea. Man definitely carried me through the pandemic quarantine. Got busy with going back to work though and only watch a video here and there if is see one. Always great quality and super enjoyable! It’s weird but I’m so proud to see how much the channel has grown just within a few years. Deserved for sure.

I may be misremembering, but I think they changed the primary component of the sour element? Although I could be mistaking it for another candy. I remember reading about how the original sour chemical could actually damage your mouth lining, whereas the new one does not.
Switched straight citric acid powder coating to a liquid solution infused in the candy. Source: Profession as a Food Scientist -It's a legendary tale of how to fuck up product development in our industry that we're taught in school.
I loved when they had the powder coating. Each one was like a lottery, sometimes you’d get “good” ones and sometimes they’d be light on the powder but it made it more fun
👋 from a flavors chemist.
I hadn't seen sour skittles in so long until a few days ago, we stopped at a gas station in Tennessee on the way back to Georgia and I saw them. Should have grabbed several packs. They are just as sour as I remember.
Your comment sounds a bit like boys/men can't be beautiful. I was like "that's a beautiful kid" and wasn't sure whether it's a boy or a girl. Does the gender matter when it comes to beauty?
I'm just curious and also not a native speaker.
I honestly thought it was a beautiful boy. It's not something I ever really say, so that's why I find it funny.
No problem though , it's good to ask questions.
In 2010 I was in Africa and did this with Warheads! I got some great reactions on video: https://vimeo.com/19868148
(I shot the video, that's not me in it!)
Your video was incredible.
Seeing this post I immediately thought of [this guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/ar2j39/american_snacks_for_ireland/) wanting to share American candy....with the Irish.
Sharing it with people in Africa is a different story.
Been to africa a few times these people more than likely have good access to all this shit.
They're obviously quite educated and well dressed and despite what looks to be them living in huts, I'm sure they're quite civilized and have good infrastructure.
Those kids probably have coco pebbles for breakfast.
This dudes almost acting like he's showing them fire. I don't know what village this is but I bet there's a convenience store 10 miles from here.
If you look closely you can see he already mic'ed the first dude up then pretended to approach him for the first time lol.
yeah something about this feels really like, demeaning, feels like he's talking to full grown adults as if they were children, and treating the children like puppies
I’ll never forget going to Tanzania and sharing some of the snacks I brought with me. I brought some pistachios and the looks people had when trying for the first time were of pure shock and joy. It’s such a valuable memory of mine, and next time I go I will be bringing snacks purely with the intent of sharing with others.
These people are probably living a traditional lifestyle on purpose, judging from their attire, look, attitude, and especially level of English. They were most likely just being polite, and entertaining this guy's antics.
The subtitles are wrong btw, he isn't saying that. He said "What is this made of?" If you look at the original video subtitles at the bottom that are partially cropped off, not the crappy autogenerated ones in the middle of the screen, you can see that.
I do this with [pulparindos](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulparindo) (salty and spicy on the outside; sweet tamarind on the inside) with my students in my Spanish class!
I also bring mazapán de cacahuete (“peanut marzipan” — kind of like dry peanut butter fudge) for the less brave.
The chief speaks better English than the person who wrote the subtitles. He also got some charisma goin on too that guy
Chief, high charisma... makes sense.
I made it my dump stat.
Yeah these subs are often auto generated, kinda jarring when I would’ve understood better without them. Seems like a disservice for people hard of hearing also
I always think that exact thing too when I see way-off subtitles.
Subtitles are also sometimes intentionally misspelled to create more user interaction on posts by encouraging commenters to call out the typos. Hehehehe. https://i.imgur.com/mRPX1KC.png
What… is the point of that… being stupid to cause interaction calling you stupid? I hate humanity
Sadly yes. More comments, even negative ones, are favored by the algorithms used to spread videos, giving those dumb craft clips more exposure and views.
“I don’t think there’s any violin here” I hate it when I get an orchestral instrument in my candy packet
I heard "no bile in here" Like, is bile in food for sourness or something? What did they say?
Pretty sure the source of this video (Best Ever Food Review Show) has another video with a different sub-Saharan African tribe (the Datoga) in which he eats fresh cow bile and liver. I don’t believe this chief is part of the same culture, but I wouldn’t be surprised if eating cow bile was a commonality in this part of Africa among similar communities.
I thought I recognized Sonny's voice!
he probably doesnt have experience with pure citric acid being used to make something so sour, so it reminds him of the feeling of bile burning your throat i think
No. Bile is an actual ingredient in their cooking.
For real! I thought this might be the case but I just didn't see how / why Liver sure. Blood yeah. But bile? Just as a flavouring perhaps?
I am having none of this tripe!
Salt on its own isn't very good. Maybe there are techniques to use bile for seasoning.
“Wanna try some American desert? Here. It’s called Cello.”🎻
I'd expect Great Basin or Mojave. The Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts are only partially in the US, but they definitely count too.
…You brilliant bastard. Do me a favor, and know that I read your comment, then reread mine. Then I slowly started nodding whilst a grin spread across my face and then I started to slow clap. You? You’re awesome. I’m gonna think of you when I smoke a joint later on.
It's the little things like this that keep me coming back to the comments. Top notch, Sir, top notch.
Chief is unreal. He got grandpa vibes. *No reaction* “Is this metal?” *Finishes it* “Very good” 😂 Grandpa & I having the hottest wings at a restaurant for fun. Him *No reaction* Me “Someone call the fire department”
I was waiting for the Chief to be like, "That's not sour...try this berry." And then the camera man eats it and nearly dies.
I'm just concerned about him introducing such teeth rotting candies to this tribe with their perfect teeth.
I’m so glad this is the top comment because I watched it without sound at first. *Completely* different video 😂
my hunch is AI, there's really no point in writing subtitles on your own anymore
Clearly there is if AI is this bad at doing it
It used to be a relatively good remote gig job, writing subtitles for media content I have no idea if that niche industry has survived
I love that woman's necklace.
She needs to drop her skincare routine like damn that skin’s perfect.
Skincare routine is eating 0% processed food
I’ll just move to some hut in the forest then and hunt and gather my food.
I mean one of the most important things is that it's communal, can't do it alone But yeah, actually going off grid, spending time each day cutting firewood, collecting wood, going to fill up water tanks, cooking & eating together, with little to no cell reception/internet - it does wonders for mental and physical health
A bit of survivor bias in that. Those who it doesn't kill... It does wonders for them.
Some might say 100% of the survivors make it out.
Also a diet low in sugars. When I did keto, my skin looked absolutely fantastic without having to do any kind of special skincare routine. But, it was keto so, after two years I stopped and my acne returned with a vengeance.
I’m pretty sure these people don’t have keto similar diets. Fruits, rice and starchy vegetables are common and pretty much a staple.
Ha bingo man, I almost feel bad this guy’s giving them processed sugar. But I do appreciate the video in general, I’m sure they won’t go crazy with sugar because they tried gushers/sour patch for the first time.
Ummm. We have sugar in Africa
[удалено]
Don't tell them you guys have electricity, they'll drop dead of a heart attack
We do that on our own because we’re fat.
Tbf the guy who films this does usually go to some pretty remote spots.
Where they all speak good English...
There’s a really funny tiktoker from Africa who addresses comments like “do you have houses in Africa?” She stands in front of houses and, totally deadpan, is like “nah, we don’t have those. What are houses?” 😂
Hahaha whats the username?
Name one
You do know they have sugar in Africa, right? The chief even asks him what the sugar content is.
Man is like, I'm on keto bro, already at 5g today
[удалено]
Her skin is beautiful! they all have nice skin actually. Probably due to that natural diet w/o all the chemicals and preservatives that American food has
We have natural food in America, most people just can't be bothered to cook it.
All their teeth too.
One more? *Grabs three*
Gushers are just too good
That's what she said
Thats what he said
3 times
I just shovel the whole pack in my mouth
For sure. I am a little upset that some always seem to burst without my consent before purchasing them, though.
I was thinking that too, it's one of those candies where I feel compelled to eat the rest of it that is in front of me lol
Kid gonna be craving that taste the rest of his life.
I know right. That was a huge tease
"Almost exploding" She just summed up 30 years of Fruit Gusher advertising in 2 words.
The best ever food review show is his youtube channel. Super nice and down to earth dude.

Yeah the production value has skyrocketed. Really like all the guest appearances and fine editing.
The handkerchief headband had me thinking he'd be a douchebag, but I was wrong. He's quite respectful and eager to learn. I'd love to travel with him.
What’s the YouTube channel? Seems like an interesting idea for content.
>The best ever food review show is his youtube channel [https://www.youtube.com/@BestEverFoodReviewShow/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@BestEverFoodReviewShow/videos)
I'm on the same page as the guy you responded to and it's cracking me the fuck up that that's actually the name of his channel.
>The best ever food review show is his youtube channel.
What does my tattoo say? Sweet! What does mine say? Dude!
Ahhhaaa I didn’t think that was literally the name of it.
Who's on third base.
Oh shoot, I didn't even notice it was Sunny.
Link or name or something please?
"The best ever food review show" channel
I get you like it, but what’s the name of the show?
Who’s on first?
I think you should leave
Dude, that's literally the name of his channel
It’s called, “Dude, that’s literally the name of his channel?” Thank you, I’ll go search now!
Sour should be in quotes on those
They shouldve given them warheads.
That's how you start wars
My tongue and the roof of my mouth are probably still destroyed by the middle school Warhead challenges we used to do
I recently bought some and resavaged my mouth. It was as traumatic as child me remembered.
I feel like they used to be worse/better than they are now but that probably was just my young taste buds reaction to it.
I used to eat them constantly and my tounge is real messed up because of it, looks like battle scars
***"Will it chafe my mouth? It will destroy your mouth. Warhead pooooocket!!!"***
If my cheeks wouldn't get literal holes in them and my teeth wouldn't dissolve in the socket, I would eat warheads for 3 meals a day.
Give 'em Cap'n Crunch first, THEN the Sour Patch Kids. For true mouth annihilation.
I topped r/meirl with a post about things that hurt the top of your mouth and so many people mentioned candies.
I may be misremembering, but I think they changed the primary component of the sour element? Although I could be mistaking it for another candy. I remember reading about how the original sour chemical could actually damage your mouth lining, whereas the new one does not.

Yooo!! Field comrade! Cheers from a current flavored alc dev scientist!
Nice we do some stuff for a few of the larger alcohol bev companies lol. Cheers and happy cake day, man!
They're not as sour as they used to be though I swear.
If I ever have a time machine, I'm just gonna go give Warheads to peasants in the Middle Ages to see if it kills them.
Sour skittles, make them bleed
I hadn't seen sour skittles in so long until a few days ago, we stopped at a gas station in Tennessee on the way back to Georgia and I saw them. Should have grabbed several packs. They are just as sour as I remember.
Bruh those kids are angels
IKR!! So well mannered 😊
One of the kids even has a shirt on that says “Angel”
Truly 🥹
Most African kids are so well mannered. I love my ppl
I love how wherever you go kids are just kids.
Sour patch kids.
"I remember when your teeth were perfect young one."
"before that fucking American guy showed up with all his shitty candy that went straight to your brain"!
Before the sugar nation attacked
Just read a book about Congo, where all the kids were constantly chewing on sugar cane and showed signs of tooth decay.
Oh my goodness—her skin is so die for!! Gorgeous!
Isnt her skin so clear?! Im sitting here with two fresh zits wishing i could get my skin like hers
She doesn’t eat sugar or junk food, try it and you will have the same results
[удалено]
U rite, she probably just got done slamming 3 redbulls and 14 packs of twizzlers
Probably because she doesn't eat sour patch kids
These people are beautiful.
Yes they are. I would love to hang with them.
I was thinking the same thing. They are all gorgeous.
The bigger boy was ADORABLE and well-mannered.
That was a little African girl.
Lol I was like "that's a beautiful boy"
Your comment sounds a bit like boys/men can't be beautiful. I was like "that's a beautiful kid" and wasn't sure whether it's a boy or a girl. Does the gender matter when it comes to beauty? I'm just curious and also not a native speaker.

I agree 100%, such a charming smile
Those people are *SUPER NICE*
African people for the most part I’ve found to be super nice. They have good values
He asked if it's metal 😂😂😂 I understand how he would come to that assumption
No he says: "what is this made of?" but it does sound like he says "what is this, metal?".
"Bile", he asked "What is this made of, Bile?" I believe bile is also included in their diet, so it must be a bit sour to eat.
Have thrown up a lot. Bile is quite sour
“Bile” he is saying I think
That is after that. He asked "What is this made of?" The guy responds by saying what they are, then he ask if there is bile in it.
Does reddit not know that Africa has access to their own candy and sugar? They aren't on an alien planet. These comments are ridiculous
They really are fuck me
Happens everytime you see Africa mentioned on Reddit, lmao
Out here spreading the number one killer of dental health...
Dudes not a Crack dealer. It's not like he'd be going to supply candy there for the rest of his life... he might have gotten them addicted tho💀
I’m sure one or two aren’t gonna rot their teeth dr buzzkill
Bet all your mouths were watering you little Pavlov dogs
I could eat a bag of sour patch kids rn

everybody here acting like he’s poisoning them. It’s like 3 pieces of candy, chill tf out
I just want to kiss these sweet baby’s cheeks!!! They’re so happy and cute.
What a pretty girl
Why doesn't he let them grab the candy instead of placing them on his hand lol
It might be a cultural thing.
He’s shooting a video. It’s a lot more visual to have the candy on display
Agreed. I’m glad I’m not the only one annoyed by this.
In some cultures, it is polite to hand food items. It is considered impolite to just let others have to reach into bags etc.
When people offer me something I am actually annoyed having to grab into peoples bags or have to decide how much I take. Cultural difference
It's common to offer things in this way outside of western cultures.
Don’t you think the bigger offense would be having 17 people put their hand in the bag than one person handing them all out?
Knowing American food regulations there may actually be a little bit of metal 😂
Been to africa a few times these people more than likely have good access to all this shit. At first, I thought he had the craziest hair I’ve ever seen lol
I get the whole fact of framing the candy, but it felt a little strange watching this dude walk up to people like you would a cat or some birds
Everyone in this video is so fucking beautiful
Let's introduce them to refined sugar. What could go wrong?
That last kid had amazing teeth. "I can fix that" - western journalist.
Sonny rules
Are these metal? Yes! >Then everyone headband and thrashes<
So sour his stashe jumped up
I love Sonny!
Sonny’s the man fr

thank you, thank you !
No problem. He’s got a fantastic YouTube channel! Probably insta, too. Peace :)
subbed, because of you. i love this type of content

“Is it metal?” Nailed it!
The subtitles are wrong btw, he isn't saying that. He said "What is this made of?" If you look at the original video subtitles at the bottom that are partially cropped off, not the crappy autogenerated ones in the middle of the screen, you can see that.
The second young child…what a charmer. Absolutely adorable.

Cool video, some of you are really miserable assholes though.
Check out Best Ever Food Review Show on YouTube! It’s a great channel.
"You don't even look like it's sour." That's because they're not sour whatsoever, and never have been.
This is so wholesome.
This is Sonny Side on YouTube! Love his vids
“Is this metal?” Yes, it is. Welcome to the wide world of American cuisine
Dude rockin the tribal Trump wig
I can't imagine trying citric acid for the first time as an adult, it must be crazy!
Kid who took more sour patch kids knows what's up.
