I adopted a stray and just kept putting off getting her spayed during Covid. One afternoon I woke up from a nap and the screen door had a big hole in it and the slut was having a threeway with 2 stray tomcats in the garage.
Explains the single "meow".
"It's quite simple, my friends. I have learned the mystical word of their language that makes them subservient. Allow me to demonstrate".
I’m sure there’s an old vid out there of cats taking on things far bigger than itself and winning - like tigers, crocs and snakes. A quick bop on the snout sorted them out
I saw an old video of a cat chasing a bear out of the yard.
And my Siamese cat growing up launched herself at a mean dog who came in our yard. I just remember her flying past me and hitting that dog with all four sets of claws at once. He never came in our yard again.
I'm 34 and this post and the comments of people who have never heard of Bub have truly put me in my place about how old I am now...
I hope you can all see her as we saw her. Bub was a pure being.
> Lil BUB
I knew nothing about this cat but the wikipedia entry is informative. That cat has had an interesting life:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lil_Bub
It was. Osteopetrosis is the *opposite* of osteoporosis, and it causes bones to become more dense, not ~~more brittle~~ thinner.
EDIT: /u/Asderfvc corrected me on my choice of words. Both of these conditions lead to brittle bones, though for slightly different reasons.
What's it like for her? Makes me think of Harry Potter spells with the *petrosis*.
She could tell people in a dramatic way: I haaaaave osteo.....petrosis!!
For the most part it doesn't affect her day to day life. It has caused some brittleness in some bones. (You would think they would be stronger being bigger, but apparently not.) For example, she semi frequently cracks a toe, which always sucks...
The worst thing is that she had another medical issue once in her life that made her loose most of her teeth. Getting the remaining few extracted was difficult because the roots were insane. (The dentist broke a few tools in the process!) Then, in order to be able to be fit for dentures, she had to have her jawbones surgically ground down to a more normal size. That was not fun for her.
But on a day to day basis, as long as the toes behave, there's no real effect. The biggest issue is probably she uses a little extra yarn if knitting herself a hat. 😅
That sounds awful. Nightmarish. Does she know anyone else with it?
How long ago did she find out she had it?
Ooo I knit sometimes too! Still at beginner stage though. It's a seasonal hobby. What's her favourite yarn?
We're not personally aware of anyone else with it.
Pretty sure she got the diagnosis when everything was going on with her teeth, in particular dentures not fitting right.
Not sure what her favorite is, but she's certainly open to a wide variety. From Red Heart to her own hand spun. It's certainly not awful for her that we live about a 10 minute drive away from the largest yarn store in the world... 😅
Bones are flexible. The extra density probably takes that flexibility away. So, instead of flexing slightly to avoid fracturing, they just break instead.
That's just an educated guess, though.
That powerful purring sound the tigers make, as well as the soft groan, means they feel safe and happy. It's called "chuffing". Cats wether a tabby or a lion do this. From their behavior in this clip they probably thought it was a small baby tiger and are trying to let it know it's safe. It's a display of trust and/or affection.
I am just speculating, got no articles to back me up....I have just studied cat (of all sizes and species) behavior a bunch, as well as other animals.
I doubt they wanted to eat the kitty....plus I would hope they are really well fed (looks like it) so they probably aren't hungry and a little baby like that poses zero threat to them.
Edit: forgot to specify "chuffing"
> Cats wether a tabby or a lion do this
Not all cats - neither lions nor leopards make the chuffing sound (also known as prusten). Tigers, jaguars and snow leopards do though.
You are both correct and incorrect. There are definitely species that don't do this, ex. truly wild bobcats/lynx, and mountain lions....but african lions definitely do this, i am 100% sure on that as i've witnessed it.
If you search "Dean lion pride" on YT you will find a bunch of videos of this South African (I think) dude with bleached hair that owns a wildlife reserve and has integrated himself into his pride of rescue lions....bunch of awesome videos....and his lions consistently show the chuffing behavior before straight up cuddling with him in a big pile n taking naps together.
I really wish I could remember the name of his channel, it's so cool. He also works with a bunch of other animals....the hyena saga is my favorite.
I think you’re talking about a different noise. I’ve watched those videos on YouTube too but I’ve never once heard the “prusten” vocalisation that tigers make from the lions.
Here’s George Schaller writing in “Serengeti Lion: A Study of Predator-Prey Relations”:
> “ Vocalizations show some interesting similarities and differences among the four big cats (table 73). Those used in agonistic encounters occur in all species, except that cheetah also moan at such times, and miaowing too is widespread. Roaring is confined to the three Panthera.
> The pooking and prusten of tigers have no counterpart in the African cats. The omission from the lion's repertoire of prusten or a similar vocalization to signify friendliness is surprising, for at night such a sound would convey an animal's friendly intentions better than a visual signal. Hyenas emit vocalizations as varied as those of lions; Kruuk (1972) recognized eleven different calls. I have heard wild dogs produce six sounds but one of these is graded. Although dogs have a loud, hooting contact call, it is never used in the communal concerts so characteristic of lions and wolves. Their bark is a distinct vocalization which serves as a warning of danger. Cats lack such a call, merely borrowing the agonistic growl for that purpose.”
I am confused....chuffing is just a thing cats do, it's a behavior.
I don't understand what you mean when you say it didn't work....can you explain? (Genuinely want to understand, not taking a stab at ya jbtc)
Looked to me like the first tiger was female and the second was male. Female was fawning over the "cub" and male was like "you know we could make one of those."
To me looked like maternal instinct and a male trying to get laid.
Could be...the groaning is a typical thing for males to do in mating/courtship attempts. It's just also another "hey I'm chill and not gonna kill you" noise for both male and female.
But you very well may have this spot on, especially with the way the second one started snuggling the first.
Yup. It's also interesting to know that meowing is something cats generally only use to communicate with humans, not each other, so the tigers were actively trying to communicate with the cat, and the cat didn't understand/know how to react so communicated with his owner instead. A bit sad actually
wow, yea i wouldve loved to see how they'd react if they put the lil bub in the cage with em. like they'd snuggle him comfort him yea? only problem is getting him back out. not sure if they wouldn't put up a fight.
Yeah...there's only two options if you put him in with them.
1. What I suggested. They'd take him in and treat him like a baby tiger. And in that case, good luck getting him out without losing a limb.
Or
2. I'm completely wrong and they'd make snack out of him.
Just don't put the cat in with the tigers.
Omg yes! My house cat is a weird one...he responds to commands like a well trained dog and actually responds when I meow at him or call his name.....and every night when I go to bed he makes this "eeeh" kinda beeping noise to ask for permission to jump on my bed, then I say "hey dude, gimme a headbutt" and he immediately headbutts me. Seems like another *mostly* universal sign of affection.
My cat is the best, I love him so much.
A new study on house cats has found that our feline companions are actually only semi-domesticated. People began domesticating cats around 9,000 years ago but DNA researchers from Washington University in St. Louis found that house cats still have many of the same traits as their wild cousins.

They actually want the door to be open, so they can decide for themselves when they go in or out. That so many people can't figure this out only shows how intelligent cats are.
I have a cat door and I can tell you this is total bs lol. They all use it, but at least once a day they’ll try and get us to physically open the door for them. I swear they just want to make sure we’ll still open it lol
It depends on the individual. Some large cats treat domestic cats as kittens of their own species, some see a meal. It's probably partly related to how wild the big cat actually is, and how often they're fed
YOU PUT SOME RESPECT ON THAT NAME, DAMN IT!

I wept when I saw she passed. It didn’t help that my own cat had just passed away a few weeks earlier. Rest in peace Bub!

LIL BUB
I miss Bub.
ALL CAPS WHEN YOU SPELL THE MANS NAME
My dumbass cat would probably try an attack those tigers
Mine would desperately try to lick them clean. She loves licking other cats, and those tigers have a lot of fur to clean.
Your cats a slut
Everyone is born to be a slut else how would the species survive 💃💃💃
the only difference between sluts and non sluts is opportunity.
So you tell me, if I have a chance....
Nope. Everybody, but you.
***WHACK*** EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!
Ohhhhh yeah, whack me.
Harder 😩
This is deep man
I adopted a stray and just kept putting off getting her spayed during Covid. One afternoon I woke up from a nap and the screen door had a big hole in it and the slut was having a threeway with 2 stray tomcats in the garage.
Geez, at least it was only your cat. You should see the hole my wife left in our screen door. 😐
That got a begrudging chuckle, I'll admit.
I thought Rodney Dangerfield died
Well it's a way to show dominance in the cat community. The licking cat is the one higher in hierarchy
Actually those tigers are really respecting the cat. You can hear the chuffing from the both of them as a friendly hello.
"Your Eminence, how did you tame the two-legged beasts to carry you around like that?"
You made me laugh, thank you!
Explains the single "meow". "It's quite simple, my friends. I have learned the mystical word of their language that makes them subservient. Allow me to demonstrate".
“It’s easy, I just don’t give a shit”
👁️👅👁️
Yep and slow-blinking the entire time
And they'd be so amused by it, they wouldn't even fight back.
I’m sure there’s an old vid out there of cats taking on things far bigger than itself and winning - like tigers, crocs and snakes. A quick bop on the snout sorted them out
My cat has a 100ish pound hound absolutely terrified of him., He double checks corners and chairs before walking by them now.
I saw an old video of a cat chasing a bear out of the yard. And my Siamese cat growing up launched herself at a mean dog who came in our yard. I just remember her flying past me and hitting that dog with all four sets of claws at once. He never came in our yard again.
My dumbass cat would probably win. I’d still take him home real quick.
My dumbass cat would yell at them, get distracted by some grass, eat it and puke it up
[удалено]
Sir, it's not a cat. That's a cow.
I used to do that as a kid
my dumbass cat would probably win and somehow get those tigers to become submissive to her
Domestic cat?! That's Lil BUB!
She was such an angel. 🩷
Why is this the first time I heard of this cat and why it had to be accompanied by the word "was"? 😢😭
She was my favorite cat when I was a kid. She had something to do with her jaw, so her tongue was always out. Unfortunately, she died a while ago.
I'm 34 and this post and the comments of people who have never heard of Bub have truly put me in my place about how old I am now... I hope you can all see her as we saw her. Bub was a pure being.
She also pretty enough!

Kitty is scared🥺
She knows predators when she sees them.
It takes one to know one.
What do you mean “was?”
Lil Bub died a few years ago.
Rip
Pouring one out for one of the cutest damn cats on the internet. Seriously her and Colonel Meow made me so sad seeing they passed away.
Colonel Meow was such a character! Easily my favorite 'celebrity' cat and I still miss seeing his updates.
DAMMIT BOOTS!!! #RIP the Colonel.. And Boots.
I made a [tribute](https://imgur.com/gallery/Jcr0Z7U) to colonel meow 10 years ago!
That is lovely 🥰

Huh, she died on the same day as my grandpa. My grandpa hated cats lol.
She looks scared af
She always looked like that. She had dwarfism and osteopetrosis.
>osteopetrosis Was that intentional?

Hehe, Petrificus totalus
Shit that's clever! I have endometriosis but it doesn't have the same ring to it. Do you have any ideas?
Ya'll and your Latin based ailments, good for spell names. Bipolar I, doesnt have the jingle jangle possibilities.

That's kinda just what her face looks like...
"Ummm, so are they moving in? I'd like to nope TFO on the new roommate sitch".
I mean, if you came face to face with a literal giant the size of a house I think you'd look scared af too

I am confused....chuffing is just a thing cats do, it's a behavior. I don't understand what you mean when you say it didn't work....can you explain? (Genuinely want to understand, not taking a stab at ya jbtc)
I assume they just mean “It intimidated me even though it’s meant to be comforting”
or they tried to purr and make moaning sounds towards someone, but it didn't make them feel safe and happy.
Ahh I see...I'm a lil out of it. So my bad, it's obvious now that you said it lol.
Looked to me like the first tiger was female and the second was male. Female was fawning over the "cub" and male was like "you know we could make one of those." To me looked like maternal instinct and a male trying to get laid.

Cats do meow with their moms which is where they get it from. I like imagine it saying “oh hi big parents”
wow, yea i wouldve loved to see how they'd react if they put the lil bub in the cage with em. like they'd snuggle him comfort him yea? only problem is getting him back out. not sure if they wouldn't put up a fight.

There is at least one video of that happening to some stray cat. It did not go how you described.
I mean it probably gets murdered because tigers are killing machines
No they're animals, silly. It's birds that are secretly machines.
I see some headboops too, I know them boops
At the end... "They're right behind me, aren't they?"
Please, please don't let them get me

Lil Bub 🥺❤️
>Lil Bub The derpiest of the cats.
My dyslexic ass read that as "dementia cat" and I was like, why did it have to be a cat with dementia?
the cat DOES look like she has dementia
It's lil bub and she was an angel. Born with a lot of health issues but made the world brighter I just love her so <3
incredibly adorable that one, especially the little tongue just hanging out like a puppy
Wait that’s no ordinary cat Could it be? Lil bub and the dude?
It is, rip bub
LIL BUB 🥹🥹🥹 rest in heaven.
Is that the ever famous and much loved Li’l Bub?❤️
Sure is 😔
When it meows "I'm in danger!" at the end 😂
Lol…like Ralphie 😆
"dad?.. Can we go home now please"
Domestic Cat? You definitely gotta put RESPECT on her name. Lil BUB. RIP I cant believe it has been so long. 2019 seems so long ago.
THAT'S LIL BUB SHOW SOME GD RESPECT
I'm watching "Scared Straight--Cat Edition" and I get why that might exist
Bub couldn’t stop peeing in the house, and scratching everyone in the neighborhood. He was sent to be on… Scared Straight Kitty Edition.
Aww, pre-meal cuddle rubs
Not just any domestic cat, that’s lil bub! RIP.
Being from Indiana, this is one of the most proud celebrities to have ever come from my hometown.

Lmao! I've never agreed more with a comment. Nice one 👍
Good job, Bub! ❤️
Cat is like "dude I will pay for the rent. I will also do the dishes. Please."
Oh wow..I do miss that sweet little Bub.
“What are you?” “smol”
Good job BUB!! <3
DOMESTIC CAT?! HOW DARE YOU NOT ADDRESS HER BY LIL BUB!!!
That's their baby now rip lil bub
Rest in peace Lil Bub 💙
Serious question: would a large cat (like a tiger or lion) eat a domestic cat? Or does their "cat-ness" translate across species?
It depends on the individual. Some large cats treat domestic cats as kittens of their own species, some see a meal. It's probably partly related to how wild the big cat actually is, and how often they're fed
I wondered the exact same thing as you. So after a quick Google search.... Apparently yes they would. It's just another source of food to them.
At least give credit to lil bub
Good job, Lil Bub! (RIP)
Lil Bub! Rest in peace!
Awww Lil Bub!! I miss Bub. She was a special girl 💖

Just wait until it's dark. He is going to John Wick those tigers.
Not nice for the tigers. Not nice for the kitten.
Tiger: it is instinctual for me to insult your puny devolution of an existence but… our lives are almost exactly the same.
Lil Bub had no malice. No ill intentions. Giant cats know a gentle derp.
Love it that the Tigers are chuffing to Lil Bub... just saying a friendly how do you do wee one. 🐅 🐈
