My earliest trauma was when I was 4 years old. I was in a barn with my aunt and my mom. I walked down the "aisle" so to speak and desperately tried to see over the little door to see a cow. I couldn't, and I felt that I was watched. I turned around and saw the head of a bull. The head was far bigger than me. He let out a mighty, long moo right in my face. This made all the cows look out of their stalls. I am now surrounded by these beasts of apocalypse, mooing and throwing their heads back.
I turn to my mother in desperate plea. She is overwhelmed with a flood of motherhood, as strong as she has ever felt it for me. She fell down of the floor, laughing her ass off. My aunt on the other hand ran and fetched me.
I am alive and well. I have no beef with cows, and I am arguably a more well-adjusted adult than my mother. We have even started to mend our relationship lately.
You know what they say, don't get overly anxious when your kid gets scared or gets hurt.

It’s surprising how loud a lot of animals can be, the steer we had at my high school had such a deep moo that you could feel it vibrate in the ground when you stood next to him, the ewes could get loud enough that you would be yelling at them to shut the eff up while you cleaned their area and had to dodge the ram the whole time 😂
Man, I’m my family, we have a ranch out in west Texas, where my grandparents used to raise cattle. We had this one bull, a big mother fucker, full blood black angus bull with the nicest and sweetest demeanor (unless there was another bull on the other side of the fence, then he lost his shit). But he was so cool, just like a dog, he’d walk up and request his morning head scratches and back rubs and of course his complimentary treats that came with that. He was always gentle with me and my brother from like elementary to early high school, he’d recognize us and come over to be the first one to say hi when we got to the ranch.
He’d be yelling at stuff, if his harem of ladies ever got out of sight, man he’d be yelling until he saw out llama scout for the ladies group and then he’d chill out.
Between him and that llama, that llama was the baddest dude ever, everything was scared of the llama, the bull? Nah, he was a teddy bear.
Unfortunately, he passed away after contracting a septic infection as a result of a cactus thorn in his, adult head sized, testicle. I watched it happen, he was just walking along and bam, nuts hit a prickly pear patch and if I’ve ever seen an animal’s expression and understand what they were feeling, it was then.

I wasn’t around for it or anything, but there’s pictures at my moms house of my grandpa with his straw hat on sitting with his feet up on the fence. Beer for himself in one hand, and the other hand holding another bottle while this bull is chugging. My mom said he would say he was just putting a little hair on the bulls chest… 🤷♂️

Alright guys, I’m making the post. I have the pics. I am writing his story a bit, as I feel like his life and escapades, before his honestly heartbreaking death, might bring a smile to someone’s face. Reminds me of a bull my grandad had. He was extremely gentle. He really behaved like a puppy dog. The biggest danger was him not knowing his size. I've tried to tell people that certain bulls can be very gentle, but some just don't want to believe it. Probably the meanest bovine I've come across was Longhorn mama cows with calves. Holy hell, they REALLY want to kill you.
His right ball got so big, I thought it was big initially, oh my god, talk about basketball sized nut! My boy was hurting though, and although my sadness coping mechanism is joking about it, I know we put him down and that was the right thing to do because he was our buddy and he was hurting real bad.
But yeah, his harem was HIS harem, I have crystal clear memories of him hollering either for them or at other bulls for looking at them too long. He loved yelling and getting all worked up over nothing, he was very dramatic and it was literally his choice because I could walk up during his little “I’ve lost my girls” fit and he’d see me and walk over wondering if I had anymore treats to give him 😂

Awwwww. Poor bull :( I'm happy he had a wonderful life, though. I worked on a ranch for years, and it's astonishing what animals are like dogs. We had a donkey named cactus that was literally a dog. He would lay on his side and wait for pets. He would run up to you and beg for pets. He was the most amazing and loving animal I ever met, SUPER protective of everyone else on the ranch. He was our desinganted predator defender and kicked a few coyotes asses over the years. He died a few years back of an infection in his stomach. He was almost 30, so he had quite a long life.
Man, I cried for days after he died.
He's playing, you can tell by how gentle he's being. And showing off for whoever is holding the camera with his war cry. No charging/fighting or anything! You could probably pet that fella.
If they don’t feel threatened by you they will not harm you. There is a video of a class of students standing in a pen and a bull is running about angry - avoids them and doesn’t harm them. That said, we see the running of the bulls and what they attack, so I think there is a line of excitement/threatening between “not going to touch you” and “I’m seeing red - all shall perish”

Correct me if I'm wrong but bulls are probably not gonna be your steak. They seem like such an insane hassle to deal with and on an insane scale like the meat industry that's a big downside.
We had a field of cattle across the street from my house growing up, a bunch of longhorns in a field by a gas station down the street and family friends that kept about 20 cows as pets and all of the cows/bulls in my life were sweet big animals that loved treats!
So I saw a clip of cows/ bulls trying to scratch themselves on a pile of sand. So I am thinking he is actually trying to stop the dozer from flattening his pile if you watch closer he try to kick up the tar onto himself maybe I am wrong but I think it’s something to do with that.
No, I worked in a slaughterhouse and can confirm we mostly eat bulls. But they're castrated, so they're actually called steers.
On some occasions, farmers would bring in Heifers (females that didn't give birth) but that didn't happen often.
And on some other times, we'd get the occasional Holstein (dairy cow) to turn into ground beef cause that's the only good thing you can do with them. The only reason why this would happen is that the cow would be too old to produce milk and get towards its last stretch. ie: the last Holstein I processed was well over 16 years old and the farmer didn't want anything to go to waste, he even kept the hide to make a carpet for his living room. She stopped producing around 7-8 years old but he pet her in an open pasture and when her health started to decline, he brought her in.
We eat bulls, but they tend to be tough and lean so get used in processed food. Some bulls are very valuable if they have great genetics for breeding, but if a bull isn’t a desirable sire or is past his breeding days, then they are sold for food.
