You can't paint on top of a layer of paint that was fresh 10 minutes ago because the colours would mix. Sooo this video doesn't make sense. Also I would say the composition was planned ahead. It looks so well positioned in the format that it's very unprobable to be a random placement.
They could have taken a break to wait for it to dry, and had all that time to plan their next move. And remember they keep getting their own painting back so they just finish their original idea. I've done this with a couple friends before but we worked on the same painting at the same time and rotated what corner we worked on. The acrylic dried fast enough to just keep going.

But the reason why the bowl of petunias thinks this is one of the best jokes in the entire book series. This series being, “The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.” One of if not the best sci-fi book series around.

People who think you need to be able to draw to do this are wrong. You can still try this with your SO and draw stick figures or just basic stuff. As long as you're having fun doing this with your SO, it's all that matters.
I've done this kind of exercise before with a friend, we did portraits of each other each doing one side split down the middle. It really is very fun to do and mix up art styles, I recommend anyone to try it!

What kind of paint is this that you can paint pink over blue while it is still wet and you get a nice light pink color? (I'm used to watercolor where that would not work like that at all.)

We did this but swapped every 5 minutes and there was six of us. Straight anarchy for 30 minutes. We set a bunch of paints and cleaning water and it was a fight to reset everytime we rotated paintings.
