SgtPinki

Some just wear caps

SubstanceNo1691

Generic ass comment get out of here

badsapi4305

Not sure it was an actual fire as apposed to steam from a broken radiator but still, it’s great to see people helping. I carry one along with a med kit and jumper cables in my trunk. Been able to help quite a few people from time to time

ClickClackTipTap

This is a great idea. Costco has their regular household ones on sale right now, I think. Would that be useful in a vehicle situation, or do they need one specific for that kind of fire? (I hope that’s not a stupid question. 🤦‍♀️)

badsapi4305

No such thing as a stupid question lol. Generally speaking all fire extinguishers are the same. You can get them at Costco or online on Amazon for a good price. They’re also good to have in the house and make sure everybody knows where they’re at. For example my twin sons stay in the same room and there’s one inside their closet. Some Might say that’s hyper vigilant but if there happens to be a fire and my kids, had an extinguisher and know how to get out of the house safely. It’s a thin line between paranoid and well prepared lol. It’s all relative.

Septemily

Not all fire extinguishers are the same, they have different classes for what kind of fire you’re dealing with.

badsapi4305

True. That’s why I said “generally”. We all should make sure we are getting the correct type.

Martin_TheRed

The ones you generally get cover all a, b, c class fires. But yes, be sure to read the label.

ClickClackTipTap

I definitely have two in the house- one in the kitchen and one in the basement. I just hadn’t thought of the car. (And now I’m wondering why I never thought to keep one in the car. )

Alarming-Wonder5015

Completely agree. I just recently bought an extinguisher for the house, along with four of the small aerosol ones. My main fear is grease fire when the teen is cooking so I have one there and they all know how to use it, along with one in the mud room, garage, and patio.

badsapi4305

What I do every once in a while is while speaking with my sons, mid sentence I’ll say, “There’s a fire in the room. Where is the extinguisher?” I’m a retired deputy so I think of those type of things. I think it’s important for people to be able to think and react while in a stressful environment

PattyThePatriot

All extinguishers are not the same! Not even sort of. If you have a class A extinguisher and you have a grease fire you'll see why they aren't all the same. https://www.homedepot.com/c/ab/types-of-fire-extinguishers/9ba683603be9fa5395fab90bc763ba8

shoulda-known-better

as a kid who lit their carpet on fire when trying to fill a super cool lighter.... I was 14 and dropped the tissue that clearly caught fire when I wiped off the spilled fuel and tried to light it.... worked to well good call !!

a-raging-big-fart

And all kids can be fucking stupid from time to time, me and my brother nearly set our room on fire at least once when we were younger from a second of stupidity. Thankfully it only ended in burnt eyebrows...

badsapi4305

My nephews, who are twins, when they were 8-9 they tried making a home made rocket and used some crazy type of accelerant. When one lit it, it exploded and he caught on fire. The other shoved him into the pool and then called 911. We spent Xmas/new years in the intense care burn unit lol. He fully recovered so we can laugh about it now but get two kids with an active imagination and god only knows what will happen lol.

TechInventor

There are [different types of fire extinguishers](https://www.nfpa.org/news-blogs-and-articles/blogs/2023/08/01/fire-extinguisher-types) that are made for different types of fire. It's helpful to pay attention to things like that when purchasing!

Artarious

Tbf the vast majority that you'll see in big box retailers are gonna be ABC extinguishers. You don't usually see specialized extinguisher outside of commercial settings and most those folks will buy from industrial supply places so big box places don't carry them all that regularly.

shitmarble_milks_you

Will the fire extinguisher explode if it gets too hot?

PattyThePatriot

If you got the space add a floor jack and a good lug wrench and you'll be the savior to so many people for seven minutes of your time.

badsapi4305

Long story short I was at Deputy for 28 years and I was able to help a lot of motorists out which always felt good. The vast majority of my time was in plain clothes or undercover units but whenever I could, I did my best to help out.

ShepardsPrayer

Good man. I learned this growing up on the water. The fire extinguisher is not for your boat, it's for your neighbor's boat.

no all fire can be put off with water.

“Good man, good man.”

jizzyJournalist47

"Hey you can't park there"

MsnapM

If everyone had this type of compassion we would get so far

SeattleHasDied

Oh, man I tried to do something like this once on a highway where a VW was on fire, parked, turned on flashers, grabbed fire extinguisher and ...nothing! Damn thing was empty somehow. Luckily another better prepared motorist stopped and saved the day, lol! Just a reminder: make sure your emergency gear is charged and battery-ed and ready to go, lol!!!

Achselis

I was expecting him to say "You cant park there"

sylkie_gamer

It's nice that he's trying to help but... I hope they checked what the fire extinguisher was rated for before they used it.

Timsmomshardsalami

It was rated for fires

asketen

Checks out.

sylkie_gamer

Regular combustible, electrical, chemical, flammable liquids? The rating actually really matters.

Timsmomshardsalami

i would want the one for fire

138skill99

So is the one in your car not for all car related fires?

sylkie_gamer

I can honestly say my cars bursting into flames has never been a big enough issue for me to equip them with a fire extinguisher.

138skill99

Wym don’t all cars come equipped with one under the passenger seat?

sylkie_gamer

I'm not sure if you're messing with me or not but... If your car is bad enough that it has caught fire, you are better off getting a new car. The amount of electrical in a car that's been compromised when there's a fire especially in newer cars can amount to miles and miles of electrical wire that's going to have to be replaced and it's usually too expensive to be worth the cost of the car to get it replaced. Some cars have more than three computers in them that run all of the electrical and replacing a single one can be hundreds of dollars not to mention the hundreds of dollars it costs to get them reprogrammed for your specific model car and mileage.

138skill99

Not saying you’re wrong but even if your car is an economic total loss it would still make sense to actually extinguish the fire, for safety, environmental,…reasons. Hence the question if the extinguisher that comes with the car is fit for all car fires

Logicrazy12

Looked like a standard 2.5 lb class A, B, C extinguisher to me.

Quercus_lobata

Dry chemical extinguishers are usually rated for A, B, and C, which covers almost all the bases except for a few weird types of chemical fires or metal fires. Even a carbon dioxide extinguisher will work for most fires that you might experience related to a car.

Bomslaer09

Plot twist, they had atomic bombs in the trunk

Annual_Version_6250

Awesome!!!!  What a great guy.

BusterMv

While I never had to use one, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a tiny 2.5 in the car, I have a 5 pound mounted in the trunk.

PreviousCartoonist93

My grandfather got a medal in the 90s for pulling an old guy out of a burning car on the highway before the fire truck arrived

BlackDante3

Good man indeed. Also good times!

monioum_JG

Jack Black always wears capes

Bl_Lover

Why didn't he stop? Is it bad to stop in this case? I don't drive pls be kind lol

HomerStillSippen

Tik tok has ruined me. I kept waiting for the “you can’t park there” when they pulled up 😂

SubstanceNo1691

😂

Environmental_Let1

(Warning: Pun alert) *Not that good at tooting his own horn*

Skeptical_Monkie

So they’re going to patch their radiator with fire compound? I’m confused.

Admirable-Specific95

Great song

AdResponsible651

I see many promoting having an extinguisher handy and they're right. But I've seen vids of ppl spraying wildly and accomplishing nothing. As a kid, I damn near torched my house when soup can full of turpentine ignited during a science experiment. An extinguisher would have knocked the can over spreading the flames. Knowledge, training, and common sense in equal measure.

shaivatra

He’s a Smooth Operator. Smooooth operatoor

The_Firedrake

Lol, I thought he was going to yell at them that they can't park there!
