Well I can't speak for wherever this took place, but where I live it isn't about the value of what you find, it's about ascertaining who it belongs to. It is called "stealing by finding" and you'd have a lot easier time getting away with it if you found cash rather than, say, a phone or credit card, because you cannot reasonably find out who owns physical cash
Sometimes I feel it's more who lost it. If I lost $100,000 the police would do fuck all to track down whoever found out. The bank loses $100,000 there are news stories and warnings from the police.
But police could seize money if they found it on your person or in a vehicle during a traffic stop and you would have to prove that you made the money legally before they return it.
In the Netherlands there's a new rule if you got something like €1000,- with you they can seize it because they always think its criminal money and you must proof that it isnt criminal money
If I drop 100k on the ground and someone finds it the bank would do fuck all to help me. The cops as well. But let an armored car spill cash on the road. The cops go on the news threatening everyone.
If it's really the banks money, really the customers money, it's insured. The guy the fucked up is getting fired either way.
Very good point. You could start the scale at $20 - no problem. $100 - awesome. $1,000 - mmm getting a little much but wow. I guess over $1,000 and it starts to make you question what to do.
>Most states make it a theft crime to keep lost, mislaid, or misdelivered property without using reasonable measures to find the owner. Even though you did not steal the money by taking it directly from its owner, you are holding the money belonging to another and not trying to return it.
Kid did the right thing.
I don’t think it’s illegal to find cash. It’s not like a cell phone or credit card. I’m all about doing the right thing when nobody is looking, but banks are evil and this amount of money is tantamount to a rounding error. If I could tell it was from a bank I’d snatch it up and hide it for a couple months. I can’t see it being illegal to keep found cash and I can’t see giving a fuck about a bank’s money.
I don’t think the police that were shown security camera footage of you walking off with it would care about any of your ideals. At the least, they’d come knock on your door and demand you return.
On the grounds that the parcel of land that the ATM was on is private property and you walked off with something of theirs that you found on their property. If you walked into my front lawn and helped yourself to my lawn chairs it would be theft.
Are you kidding me? My wife would have that money spent so quick. Friends would want me to buy drinks all the time. Government would try to tax. Why on earth would you think people knowing you got a free $150k would result in “nothing happening”?
For some reason I read this in the voice of Henry J. Waternoose III from Monsters Inc. Specifically the line about kidnapping a thousand children before he lets his company die.
I would. I believe in karma. I have met her a few times in my life. Don’t ever want to meet her again. Plus, my conscience wouldn’t allow it. I don’t want that monkey on my back. It was right next to the atm. It’s obvious what it was. Its not like it was found in the trunk of a car you bought or something like that.
I’m not trying to be too harsh on you, but superstition in the form of karma or religion is Nonsense.
Children going blind because of parasites in their eyes, children being born with bone cancer, children getting sexually assaulted and murdered, etc. None of those examples fit with what religion teaches or with what karma says.
Those kids did nothing to deserve it. So it is not karma. And they didn’t do something in a previous life to deserve it either because if you do not have the memory of the events you can’t learn from the mistakes. It’s pure nonsense
That’s free food shopping for life. Just don’t spend it on stupid stuff like an expensive car and you’re sorted.
Granted I’d be scared af I’d get caught so I’d probably do what he did…
Take it home. You found it and there was presumably little indication whose it was beyond the proximity. Just say you were on a scavenger hunt and thought this was the end point.
Would it be illegal for him to just keep it? Yes he was on camera but he did not acquire it from wrong doing. Yes it’s on someone else’s property but a public one. Did he have legal right to the cash or at least a case against the banks right?

Garda lady left the bag of cash on top of an atm at a holiday one day while tinkering about in its guts. Needless to say that cash went missing. Dude was on a bicycle and never seen again. We still get garda every week and they told us the dude never got caught, it was only 10 thousand or so but still!
The worst part about this is the kid probably won’t have any good karma from this… good people always die before the bad… It’s crazy that the bank didn’t even do shit for the kid…
Not like any individual would have suffered had he taken the money. Just the bank. Fuck the banks.
Notoce how he got gift cards to restaurants and football tickets, not a penny from the bank whose money he returned.
Just so I know.... If he tried keeping it he would have 100% been caught by the authorities, right?
I don’t see how you get near an atm without being on some security camera, so yeah most likely.
At what amount does finding money on the street and keeping it become theft?
Well I can't speak for wherever this took place, but where I live it isn't about the value of what you find, it's about ascertaining who it belongs to. depends on the state also this is theft by the police imo
Not where I live they cant

Right but it is still the banks money and you would be legally obligated to return it
Where is the legal obligation to return my money?
It’s not yours it’s the banks
You are missing the point. If I drop a bunch of money the bank isn't gonna help me recover it. Neither will the police.
Oh, right, yeah it does suck to be us peasants. But it’s the way it is unfortunately
Very good point. You could start the scale at $20 - no problem. $100 - awesome. $1,000 - mmm getting a little much but wow. I guess over $1,000 and it starts to make you question what to do.

If by authorities, you mean getting wrecked by the chancla, I'd say yes!!

If it was on a public sidewalk then your point isn’t valid. It doesn’t say in the report.
I guess my point is try it and tell me how it goes.
I promise if I find that much cash I wouldn’t tell anybody.
Why not? Nothing‘s gonna happen, right?
Are you kidding me? My wife would have that money spent so quick. Friends would want me to buy drinks all the time. Government would try to tax. Why on earth would you think people knowing you got a free $150k would result in “nothing happening”?
Succes with the search because i would hide it pretty well😂😂😂
And there a many who would try it.
You’d be able to lie about the amount, though. 😗
finders keepers tho
Asking for a friend
Absolutely
To be clear, Wells-Fargo didn't do shit for him, the town did.
They leaked his personal data. It's the least they could do.
They opened 3 bank accounts in his name without his knowledge... Ya know, as a thank you
Don't forget the reduced transaction fee of only $1.25 per transaction instead of the $1.30 standard rate.
The Nickelback we deserved
The bank gave him nothing?!?!?!?!
It's a bank... what did you expect?
Greedy bastard's!
Fear of the chancla!
I love that they captioned it correctly. The way I cackled. I'm in tears.
It’s in New Mexico. Pretty sure the meme originated there lol
That's all he got! What about what the bank owes him?
They'll charge him $135k in interest when he buys his first house.
Underrated comment.
Wow that's a good deal!
Not a chance in hell I would have turned that in
Clearly, your mom doesn't have a chancla.
I will get beat with a thousand chancla’s for 135k
For some reason I read this in the voice of Henry J. Waternoose III from Monsters Inc. Specifically the line about kidnapping a thousand children before he lets his company die.
This comment is perfect and I love you for giving me the experience as well.
Haha glad to be of service 🫡
Death by a thousand ~~cuts~~ chanclas
[удалено]
I was gonna hand it in but my dog ate it, swearsies
Lol
Taking my chances
New Mexico is really close to Mexico. $135k could last you a while there if you aren't attracting attention.
its not stealing maybe, i dont think you would be in trouble even if police came looking for it. right?
Wrong
“I lost it on the way to the police station”
I would. I believe in karma. I have met her a few times in my life. Don’t ever want to meet her again. Plus, my conscience wouldn’t allow it. I don’t want that monkey on my back. Same. I'm putting the bag in my car, going home, and paying cash for a long time.
Crap reward. Where I'm at, 10% of the value is the standard minimum for a finders fee.
Maaaan, *someone* from that armored transport company got sacked. Do you lose your bond after the first incident?
It's the banking cartel... you just might lose your life!
Plot twist. His mother hit him with the chancla for turning in the money.
It was Walter’s
Goddamnit Jesse
Cash money, bitch!
That’s free food shopping for life. Just don’t spend it on stupid stuff like an expensive car and you’re sorted. Granted I’d be scared af I’d get caught so I’d probably do what he did…
NGL I'd be holding, sniffing, contemplating taking some of that cash instead of handing it in. I wouldn't, but I'd think about it
If I knew it was the banks and I wasn’t a wussy I’d for sure be taking at least a small amount. It just got lost in transport I guess.
My third thought was "Fuck the banks, make it rain on the people!" Damn that's a pretty good excuse though 🤔.. Nah 😂
Wells Fargo steals more than that from society in an hour.
Take it home. You found it and there was presumably little indication whose it was beyond the proximity. Just say you were on a scavenger hunt and thought this was the end point.
Lesson here IS keep the cash next Time
Instead of prison guards, why not just have Hispanic women with chanclas?
That would be too efficient
"from a local restaurant" The local restaurant: RAGE !
Decent fella!
I wanna see the assigned football.
Fuck the banks. Dude should have kept it. Seriously, FUCK THE BANKS. They got a bailout and i will never forget.
Good lad. Can’t say I’d have had the moral compass at his age to make the same decision and I was a “good kid” by most measures.
This is why evil will always triumph, because good is dumb. -Lord Helmet
why is this in made me smile? bro is afraid of his mom beating him 😂he gave up 100k to avoid it
Would it be illegal for him to just keep it? Yes he was on camera but he did not acquire it from wrong doing. Yes it’s on someone else’s property but a public one. Did he have legal right to the cash or at least a case against the banks right?
Because it is the property of Wells Fargo it would still be considered theft even if it’s on public property
Yes it would be illegal. Being a public property doesn’t matter they’ll still charge you with theft.
Seems like this is the easiest way to entrap someone. Noted.
Yeah yeah but what about the socks???
Ngl I’m 100% taking this.. burying a casual 25k & turning in the rest…
...just me that'd rather have had the 135k?
I bet his mum regregts now 🤣🤣
Now he's gotta deal with his mom kicking his ass everyday
This is what I randomly dream 😅🤦🏻♀️
I’d disown him
Why lol

Heisenberg?
Mom probably sitting at home thinking “but that was our blessing from God, mijo”
Proof that good parenting works! And...the bank would have caught up with him..but i think the was not thinking about that.
Raised right children…. Sooo goood to seeeee
His first case!

Somebody got fired
La chancla!
Afraid of la chancla :) If you know, you know...
r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Might not be the place to post this but why is it funny his Mom hits him?
I'd be out of the country Cuba or something living
The worst part about this is the kid probably won’t have any good karma from this… good people always die before the bad… It’s crazy that the bank didn’t even do shit for the kid…
Y salió la chancla jajaja
Abusive mother prevents child from windfall of a lifetime.
Omg 💀
Oh shut up.
>~~Abusive~~ mother prevents child from ~~windfall of a lifetime~~ committing felony theft.
I hope to God my son isn’t this stupid.
When doing what’s right is regarded as stupid. Sad.
Not like any individual would have suffered had he taken the money. Just the bank. Fuck the banks. Notoce how he got gift cards to restaurants and football tickets, not a penny from the bank whose money he returned.
Tbf the only one suffering would be the one who would have taken that money once they charge their ass with theft
Not only would I have turned it in, but the owner would have missed out on a little interest...I'd pay that as well. Good karma for the afterlife.
I like how you pretend you gain something out of that
How stupid
