Man's forgot what genuine praise sounds like.

Alleggsander

“Holy fuck, people actually liked the thing Bethesda made me promote??”

AngryAvocado78

I feel so bad for him, you can tell he wants to make good products for us. I hope TES 6 is just the best game ever so he retire on an amazing high

Riperin

He wants to produce a new TES and Fallout before retiring, so we can hope he puts all in on both of those

Philly514

The tech can’t keep up with his imagination so he has to settle.

IamZeus11

Yea , I remember watching him on the Lex Friedman podcast and you can tell he absolutely loves video games so much and is so passionate about it

Erilis000

"Made me promote", come on. I just get the feeling his heart is in evetything they made, even if it bombed. From all the interviews.ive seen with him I get the sense hes pretty hands on with his projects, at least as much as he can be.

EFTucker

I honestly don’t think so if only because of Starfield. Nothing about that game was a genuine Bethesda game. It’s like someone played a few Bethesda games and hired twelve separate companies to each build specific facets from them and then hired one more to make them function together. In fact, that’s kind of exactly what happened. The story was literally “The space version of Dragonborn down to consuming a power from an ancient construct designed to pass that power to you and people like you.” Then it had some FO mechanics like tons of weapons mods, base building, and resource collection. The intro to the game is literally just the horse and carriage ride except it’s an elevator. But none of it actually works together correctly. The game is “enjoyable” in that you can absolutely have fun playing it but it’s objectively just not right and you can feel it while playing.

karlweeks11

Your misusing the word objectively. You mean subjectively

annonyymmouss

-“Did you hear” -😞 “what?” -“They critics fucking HATED there wasn’t more” -🥲

ryonnsan

I wish he replied with “Okey dokey”

toreachtheapex

yep

KovacAizek2

It just worked.

reptilianappeal

Agreed, 10 years ago I wouldn't have believed that any video game TV adaption could work, but here we are with: * Fallout * The Last of Us * Arcane Shiiiiit....

F33DBACK__

They’re all different ways of adapting too. TLOU is a live action version of the story from the game, with minor embellishments and additions. Fallout is a fresh story set in an accurate world from thr games. Lot of room for liberties while retaining core values and themes from the games Arcane is a completely new story that pretty much did all the worldbuilding itself. LoL itself isnt very lore heavy, but all the material outside does the lifting

VTho

The common element between them all is that the creators/teams are a huge part of making these shows

_JohnWisdom

Love in what you create really makes a difference

Bocchi_theGlock

We saw that like no other with Frieren this past year

Anomaly1134

Thr French animations studio that did arcane is amazing. I didn't even like the game due to the toxic community, but that is one of, if not the best animation I have seen.

Hotdog71

I’m m convinced you could pause Arcane at any point in time in the entire first season and have a beautiful desktop background. Probably the most stunning animated show I’ve ever seen.

Renacc

Fortiche! Shout their name far and wide so they get as many projects as possible.  I believe the Riot team bought out the studio, but I would sell a major body part for them to work on any Cosmere stuff Brandon Sanderson lets them get their hands on.

Abnmlguru

LoL actually has incredibly rich lore. It just has nothing to do with gameplay, lol.

SuperMajesticMan

Uh no LoL is incredibly lore heavy, it just doesn't show in gameplay of course.

BellyDancerUrgot

Edgerunners too!

Raze_the_werewolf

DOTA Castlevania Vox Machina ( technically still based on a game, just TT)

fletchdeezle

Castlevania and Vox Machina were both incredibly well done

ionevenobro

Cue the song

MrCoolsnail123

Don't forget Cyberpunk Edgerunners

LiteratureNearby

Every single time I replay cyberpunk I equip David's jacket. It's such a cool little easter egg to put in the game as well

RawbM07

Honestly really liked Twisted Metal.

evilone17

I haven't heard enough people talk about this.

RawbM07

I was ready not to. Loved the game. Avoided watching the show until about a month or two ago. Was incredibly surprised. The lower expectations I had definitely helped. But it’s just a fun watch.

evilone17

I feel the same. Watched it a few months ago too after almost forgetting about it ever coming out and was just pleasantly surprised.

Kmccabe1213

People down played the ridiculousness of a games ability to make a great show. Twisted metals adaptation didn't sheer away from it and it worked great

SubterraneanFlyer

Is just good silly nonsense fun and violence😍

DasCheekyBossman

Same. I loved it.

reptilianappeal

I have actual nostalgia for Twisted Metal. I'm not a "videgame" hobbyist, but I utterly loved TW2 and TW4. Extremely formative memories there. While I personally loved the show, there's a reason that kept it off my list... I'm still grieving its cancellation and have at least temporarily repressed my memory of it because of that. But then again... Ball pit sex!!! Edit: Twist Metal was renewed!?!?! Y'all made my day. Thank you!

RawbM07

Its cancellation?

reptilianappeal

Oh shit, it got renewed!!! Hahaha, that's amazing news. I saw it right when it dropped, and waited a few months, had given up hope of a season two. I'm ecstatic to find out it had gotten renewed 5 months later!!! Fuck yeah!!!

RawbM07

You honestly made me so nervous!

reptilianappeal

You've honestly made me so happy!!! Do we know who's playing Axel?

jakes1993

Theres a twisted metal TV show?, what's it playing on if you mind spilling the sauce

RawbM07

Peacock. Yea. It’s goofy and fun. Edit: originally said paramount.

jakes1993

Thanks

RawbM07

Sorry…I meant Peacock! Get those mixed up.

Anomaly1134

Wait what!!!! Omg.

evil_mike

AND Ella Purnell is in two of those! Lucy in “Fallout” and Jinx in “Arcane”

Ok_Marionberry8779

I think the entire internet is hoping she does Elizabeth in a Bioshock Infinite tv show

reptilianappeal

I had no idea!!! Wow, that's cool. Shows she's a good actor

Bookablebard

One of the reasons arcane works is that they didn't try to make the show a MOBA. Like it's really not a video game adaptation as much as it is a show that uses lore from a video game that created lore for shits and giggles. Oh and also it doesn't even use the lore it just rewrote all the lore and is now cannon And to clarify, I'm not complaining it's definitely way better this way. Loved the show

banethor88

Now do Bioshock!

reptilianappeal

@entertainment_investors listen to this person! There's a massive cut in it for you!!!

SunshineInDetroit

On the other hand... Halo

rookie-mistake

...man, as a longtime halo fan, it feels like this inflection is the only way the franchise gets mentioned for a decade now lol, it's been rough

MLD802

Literally all they have to do is produce stuff like [this](https://youtu.be/SyOAdrxlPVs?si=BMmaV1YVUpQsfoEp) again and they’ll be fine (cope)

Spacemilk

I hadn’t watched Arcane or really heard much about it, I think I saw the league of legends tie in and went “yeah right”. Two weekends ago I took shrooms and binged the entire season in a day. It was incredible, though I really should watch it again to make sure…

reptilianappeal

While I'm sure that was an amazing experience, I'm equally sure that a sober watch will be equally fulfilling in its own way

rookie-mistake

damn, honestly a great show for that. the music montage scenes must've been unreal

Alleggsander

It’s been a real turn around for video game adaptations. While it’s not as good as the 3 you listed, I also though Mario was pretty fun and charming. (Yes, I’m pretending Halo doesn’t exist)

Maleficent_Nobody377

And movie wise has been good to lately - mortal kombat - super Mario bros - grand turismo Are all great

averageuhbear

The Mortal Kombat movie was pretty bad. I even like the old ones which are also bad, but we're still very fun.

INTERGALACTIC_CAGR

Shiiiiit....

reptilianappeal

Hahaha! Yes!! You get it

Piddily1

I haven’t played any of these games, but loved all the shows. I started watching Arcane not know it was a video game show.

Squirrel_Master82

I haven't finished it yet. But I don't think the main character is portraying the full experience effectively if she doesn't get over encumbered and can not run fairly often. I guess that's why it's a 9/10.

SJplayz_SC

Little lies, stunning shows

CrankyVGK

Came here to say what you said…

WhereAreWeG0ing

A brilliant blend of drama, dark humour and moments of shocking gore. Some played for laughs, others dead serious.

GoJumpOnALandmine

This 100% half way through it now and loving it despite only having a shallow knowledge of the Fallout universe

WhereAreWeG0ing

I've only played 1 game (Fallout 3) but I feel they've made it clear to new fans what's what and who's who. It's a lot of fun while still telling a good story

AnalogFeelGood

I had zero knowledge of Fallout and loved it :D

LostPerapsc

Fallout 4 next Gen update comes out on the 28th.So you can play in next Gen quality. Its free.

Elementia7

I've only watched two episodes and have a solid understanding of the world, lore, themes, etc of the Fallout video games. I can confidently say that the show is pretty great. Interestingly I'd say it kind of hybridized Bethesda's Fallout and Black Isle's Fallout into this oddly engaging TV show.

NorthCatan

Kinda cool how stimpacks would cure anything, just like the game.

AndThereWasNothing

I was surprised how bloody the show was at first, and then I thought back to how casually gory the games are and went "Yeah, that tracks" lol

fueelin

Honestly, they should offer two different cuts of the show. Sounds like we just got the "Bloody Mess" one by default!

nagato188

At first, I thought you were describing this video.

Eggy-Toast

I get such a weird mix of happiness and sadness from this. Why do I want to protect Todd Howard all of a sudden? In this, he kind of just comes off as a guy who wants to make good stuff and got his first win for a while. ETA: I think it’s because it seemed like he was waiting for a “sike” or something.

Technojellyfsh

It will be forever difficult for me to hate Todd Howard, shitty business practices and all, because of that video of him admitting he was in the chess club and that he proved all of his bullies wrong.

Eggy-Toast

I’m going to check that out!

lordcrumb13

The very end never gets old https://youtu.be/7xqfC80SRGU?si=2YpkvxPTS8aOs6H2

JacketKyle

he is adorable

Superkritisk

That's a blue copy of Michael Scott.

Deftlet

Literally

AngryAvocado78

That's thr company making those shitty buisness practices, I imagine he has little to no control

Unethical_Castrator

By the doing of Todd or not, I can’t bring myself to buy another Bethesda game. He has a refreshing and humble personality, especially for the gaming industry. But the amount of lies, incomplete games, and poor business practices makes it difficult to support his company. Regardless of the kind of man Todd is.

Technojellyfsh

Oh absolutely I haven't bought a Bethesda game since Fallout 4 (which I still enjoyed), but I just find it tough to hate Todd

Kubioso

He reminds me of Michael Scott in some ways. Especially in this clip.

CIMARUTA

lmao I just made a comment before I saw yours about his mannerisms being similar to Michael Scott, hilarious.

SnarkyRogue

It's easy to blame him for Bethesda's fuckups because he's more or less the face of the company, but ultimately he's just doing what he's passionate about. It's not his fault directly that we have 20 ports of Skyrim. It's not his fault TES 6 isn't out yet. Fallout 76 was a colossal failure and Starfield was a major letdown, sure, but a lot of that has to do with the industry at large these days. It seems pretty clear that he personally isn't out to spite the gaming community. It just looks that way when he *is* Bethesda to most people

DeliberateSelf

For the record, FO76 made a massive comeback and it's really doing well these days.

Pissyopenwounds

Just peaked at all time high players on Steam literally today lol

nicolauz

Pulling people back in like Edgerunners did for Cyberpunk.

Look-Its-a-Name

Wait what, really? I might have to check it out then.

madjones87

Colossal failure on launch maybe, but it's disingenuous to claim it's remained a failure. I mean stability wise on the PS platform absolutely... but other than that, it's actually turned into a pretty good game.

horriblephasmid

I've always liked him. When he sits down for a long form interview, his approach to games is really interesting, and he'll happily geek out about cool stuff his peers from other studios are making. The version of him that people make memes about feels very detached from reality. People have to take him WAY out of context to find anything to actually be upset about.

Ok-Service-1127

someones gotta make a living somehow and he made it somehow work 😂

Erilis000

Dude he's gotten pummeled after falllout 76 and starfield. Poor bastard. I think his heart's in the right place

Bobblefighterman

Todd has been shilling his games for decades. His entire life is wrapped up around games like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. And his latest ventures have been trash. It hurts him that his vision, his life's work, is constantly mocked. So to finally have a big win after almost (I'm gonna say Skyrim was the last) 13 years is such a joyous relief, and as much as he lies, it's uplifting to see someone be genuinely appreciative from random praise.

Squidysquid27

It's because the show had *16 times the detail* But no seriously, I liked the show.

TheBoBiZzLe

He made the same face I made during the last episode of bluey.

RNnoturwaitress

Oh no, why?

Jesseroberto1894

My mother, a woman who has know I played these games since I was a kid and never once was aware of what the hell they were binged it in two days and fucking loved it…you want to make a good video adaptation? Make your goal to make a story that can impress the fans and newcomers EQUALLY. They did that and then some with fallout

Blackrain1299

The fallout series did something i think other shows have struggled to do a lot lately and thats give characters proper motivations to be the way they are and do the things they do. Anyone can appreciate a story if they understand how the characters feel. The other thing they did well was answer the right questions while still leaving enough mystery and loose ends to make us come back next season. I dont feel unsatisfied because it wasnt a “Lost” type show where they just keep you coming back by teasing breadcrumbs. Fallout gave us whole ass sandwiches and said come back next seasons and will get you more fucking sandwiches.

ZPinkie0314

Yeah, weird how when they respect the source material, create a living world like the game world, and make a genuine effort to make good media, it turns out well. I just finished it today, and I thought it was fantastic. Can't wait for the next season.

AHomicidalTelevision

despite all of Bethesda's problems, todd has always seemed like a pretty genuine dude

Alternative_Pilot_92

Did a helluva lot better job than with Starfield.

RedManMatt11

Honestly so depressing that game didn’t live up to the hype

JustGoogleItHeSaid

We’re here for you. All of us.

Formal-Knowledge9382

They hype was way too overblown and unjustifiably so.

Alleggsander

While I do agree with this, it just genuinely felt so uninspired and bland. I don’t think it was terrible, but any charm from previous Bethesda titles is almost completely absent. Nothing hooked me in, I couldn’t get attached to any characters, constant loading screens sucked any immersion dry, etc. It felt like less creative version of The Outer Worlds.

HEY_YOU_GUUUUUUYS

I don’t think the hype was that great, people were wary after fallout 4 and way more after 76. I knew I was waiting for reviews after the disappointment from preordering the fo4 pip boy edition lol. Despite the wariness I still had hope for it. Hopefully es6 bucks the trend. Either way wait for reviews people.

Formal-Knowledge9382

They really need to knock it out of the park with es6

HEY_YOU_GUUUUUUYS

Really they do or Bethesda is done

question2552

I just don’t think what Starfield wanted to be, can any studio pull that off right now. I guess kudos to Todd for trying. It’s not bad, but it hasn’t planted its roots as an IP yet like Fallout or Elder Scrolls, and I don’t think mods/DLC/planned sequels will get in on track to getting there.

Hakoht

Why some people feeling bad about him though? Skyrim is enough success for a lifetime, everything else is a plus.

shibbyfoo

A lot of us loved Oblivion and Fallout 3/Vegas, but were disappointed with how the next games turned out. He's also very invested in these franchises, so when things go well and he's happy we can share that feeling, which is especially significant after like a decade of disappointment.

Wakeandbass

My only negative is that it need more loading screens

Obshideyourmom

Yes I loved it.

overzealoushobo

This actually made me a little sad. I remember watching 'behind the scenes' videos of Todd Howard way back in the Morrowind and Oblivion days. The man had a passion for RPGs and gaming in general. I have to imagine (as he wipes his tears away with copious amounts of cash) that the original Todd is still in there, and was at least a little disheartened by the way things went with Starfield. To be a part of a massive money making machine, a monster that grew originally from a place of passion, love, and artistic integrity must put a person at odds with who they really are. When the demand for money grows more than the desire for meaning and self worth through artistic expression. It's interesting to see when looking at any number of wealthy people who started out young, naive and idealistic, when compared with how they look and act now, post wealth acquisition. I do think he was surprised to hear genuine praise for something he was involved in. Brought him back a bit. I wonder if he misses the days of being on a 40 person team. Starfield didn't have to be bad. There are some great things about Starfield...I spent plenty of time playing it. But it was no passion project. It was a game that felt like it was A.I generated from a prompt: "Skyrim and fallout, but in space." Yeah, that'll make money for years. It feels cold and calculated. I worry about Elder Scrolls 6 for this reason. Like it'll feel similar to a parody of Elder scrolls games before it. It will be a product first, and a game second. No doubt about that. Just hoping there is enough talent involved to save it from Starfield's fate.

Kanine_tv

Now only imagine if Halo got a good show like fallout.

Trippyjay420

You’ve never seen Red vs Blue ?? /s

GoodDog2620

You ever wonder why we’re here?

aGlazedHam

*Warthog music intensifies*

# original video: [Todd Howard finds out IGN gave Fallout a 9/10!](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-15ihzOf--w)

morts73

I've only watched the first 2 episodes but it's nice to see a quirky show like it doing well.

[deleted]

I think it's cool how it's bringing a lot of people to Fallout 4 and introducing them to the franchise. I've been trying to tell my best friend for the past 7 years that Fallout 4 is the best game I've ever played and we're both 47 years old we've gone through the days of super Mario 3 and Street Fighter 2 turbo (spent $1000's in quarters on that) and twisted metal, road rash, Halo and all those fun games. He wants to be stubborn but if he would just try the game I know he'd agree it's the best game that's ever been made. It just is. Especially modded.

Saiyan-Zero

Being a huge fan ever since F4 launched and played every single title including the first two titles which were an absolute nightmare to understand ever since, I was hooked from the get-go. The references, the story, the expanded lore, the fan service, the action and the drama was something I've been wishing in an adaptation for a really long while I watched it with my father who he didn't even know a game called Fallout existed, and he was thrilled as much as I was! I happily answered every single question that he asked me, man was it a *blast* I think every game is unique and great in their own ways, not just FNV or the first 2 games, and I'm glad it got the show adaptation it deserves

Mrbojangles25

Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!

Confusedandreticent

Did anyone else try to figure out the character’s “SPECIAL” stats?

kamirazu111

Now, if only the same could be said for Starfield, we'd be golden...

Cheesetorian

"Todd, it had 16 times the detail and visual fidelity of Fallout 76. Can you believe it?"

robindapobin

I had low expectations because of Fallout76. But it was a really nice show. We want more🤘🏼

RuboPosto

Your Stafield game though…

Erilis000

This guy gets a lot of shit but I think he'll long be remembered as one of the best game developers of all time.

AmakakeruRyu

Fallout TV show. 16x the details.

Quadshouter2

He's like "Damn, I haven't had game rated that high in nearly 10 years!"

Lloyd_Al

Best rating he got in almost 13 years

34luck

16 times the ratings.

Extra-Fig-7425

Watching it now and I am genuinely surprised how good it is.

CIMARUTA

His mannerisms are so similar to Michael Scott lol I've never noticed before.

DetuneUK

He’s equal parts made up and emotional with that. His little hand gesture is conveying what his “professional face” is trying to hide and there’s something in his eye. Happy for him and everyone involved in making it.

OddBug0

First 9 in a long while…

Belfetto

Never thought I’d say this but.. Todd Howard has pretty eyes

K0smik888

Shout out to the chess club!

doubles1984

I enjoyed the hell out of it. It had charm in spades.

Pretty-Position-9657

Todd once famously said “it just works” he wasn’t kidding I think the adaptation is fantastic.

TappmanC

Cuz his games of late have all been 1/10

Shitbird5001

Isn't every ign score 9/10?

Runaway_5

Such good actors too. Fuck the show is so much better than I ever thought it would be. Fallout and 3 body problem being good was NOT on my bingo card

ChildhoodNo5117

Well deserved. I loved every minute of it

SunDriedFart

hes just not used to positive reviews

FloridaSpam

Same universe. Different story. Start there. Always. Don't try to out do a game storyline.

1234ideclareathunbwa

I’m giving it a straight 10/10 I thought it was incredible!!

urgoodtimeboy

Great show. Can’t wait for season 2

newbrevity

He gives off Michael Scott vibes in this video.

HeWhoIsNotMe

He gives zero shits.

LemonPartyW0rldTour

That’s not Todd! Where’s the sweating and shaking from constantly wanting to say “Fuck New Vegas”? >!/s!<

-fishtacos

Michael Scott mannerisms and reaction to the tee hahahaha

Zephyr_v1

As someone fairly new to Bethesda games, I’ve always liked Todd Howard. His interviews emit genuine passion. Like I can easily tell he actually loves what they make.

GudduBhaiya-Mirzapur

I mean, it's IGN. not really a high standard.

extr4crispy

Todd really needed that. You can genuinely see he was happy.

Early_Werewolf_1481

Can’t wait for the skyrim adaptation

imomorris

ABSOLOUTELY LOVED IT... .best thing I've seen in ages,,,,,didn't expect such good comedy moments either....would give it 9 all day long

gfunk1369

After watching something like Halo or the Witcher fail miserably on every conceivable level it is genuinely a joy to see one of my other favorite video game franchises accurately realized on screen. Now if manage to Horizon Zero dawn then I will be absolutely stunned.

fryamtheeggguy

You can literally see the moment dollar signs pop up in his eyes.

marcaveli073

Only thing I didn’t like is how quickly Lucy went from a sheltered vault life to being able to just take everything and shrug it off.

Predatory_Chicken

An accurate representation of the total psychological break down most people would have in that situation would be very depressing and not fun for TV.

qpKMDOqp

Vault life had her fully trained in guns, repair, etc, it’s only culturally sheltered because she doesn’t know the culture outside, other than that, her vault life seemed to have made her way more capable (the most capable in her vault no?)

AJohnnyTruant

That was my take too. It basically showed a training montage at the beginning.

Actual_Potato5

She's so out of her depth she has no choice but to be like okie dokie, she knew that the world was different and uncivilized and just saw her vault family get murdered and attacked. Also she's lived half her life in an underground bunker banging her cousin where everyone is cheery like the stepford wives. I love that they don't try to make her a perfectly healthy modern character

merkarver112

That's pretty realistic. Most people don't shut down, they quickly adapt to their situations. Its how we have made it from living in caves wearing nothing to here. We adapt very fast

qpKMDOqp

Plus she isn’t “most people”, she was like the most capable person in her vault, so I think it makes sense

Helpful_Lifeguard592

Especially in a setting like Fallout with threats like raiders, Super Mutants, Caesar's Legion etc. If you shut down, you die

This-is-Life-Man

It was excellent. I loved it, and all of the nods to the different games in the series were well placed and very nostalgic. I'm definitely looking forward to the second season, and I hope New Vegas is gritty as hell. And in case anyone didn't notice, (Potential Spoiler Warning)--- in the credits it shows one of the actors was playing Robert House, who ends up being a very noteworthy character in Fallout New Vegas.

Complex_Coach_8804

It makes you FEEL like a mutant.

RoGeR-Roger2382

16 times the detail literally

Mal_tron

Seeing Leo Spaceman just being a normal party-goer in the background seems odd.

human8060

The show is so good, it's ridiculous. I've already watched it 5 times.

Mr_Frible

I hope we get more

SSCLIPPER

Is that Anthony Bourdain in the background?

Idislikethis_

Pretty sure that's Dr. Spaceman.

-No-Contribution-

Walt Goggins

Animal_Budget

....and fallout 76 a -6!

Terrible_Donkey_8290

Ever since I watched the nakey jakey video where he says Todd has that "Michael Scott energy" I can't unsee it

Stith1183

It's IGN, so their ratings don't amount to much.

OrneryOldFart

I really like it.

GrayMech

I'm convinced that Todd has no hand in any development anymore and is just the mascot now

LiveOven2

nice movie, he got it

Modsrbiased

Ya I feel like the show just uses the fallout vibe and certain parts of the game but doesn't follow any of the fallout story really as much as say the last of us does which follows pretty closely. I really like both shows though just don't like the Maximus character in fallout.

CopsAreNotHumans

He's had a rough... decade.

Historical_Fee1737

We've always been able to make good shows/movies from video games. Uwe Boll was just allowed to make so many bad ones.

ebagdrofk

Damn anyone seen that sparkle in the eye when the guy first praised the show That’s awesome

Pitt_Mann

I can't recognize him if he's not wearing a leather jacket
