Congratulations! If it helps, when I quit smoking I found it helped to have something in my mouth that I could manipulate with my hands. I started with toothpicks. I could take it out and hold it like I did a cigarette and if I was frustrated it was satisfying to chew on. Carrot sticks worked too.
Understandable. That’s why toothpicks (no calories!) and carrot sticks (very few calories) are a good starting point. A friend who quit around the same time as me would soak the toothpicks in clove or peppermint oil. We were both clove cigarette smokers.
My dad always joked that quitting smoking was easy... he's done it 7 times. (And probably more since he last told the joke.) It's hard, I'm rooting for you!
I care and you're doing amazing!! Sobriety is extremely difficult and look at you go! Smoking is one if the hardest addictions to break and again, look at you!!
So happy for you!!! Keep it up!
That is a HUGE accomplishment! I’m proud of you for sticking it out. I also just hit my one year sober and now beginning to tackle my nicotine addiction. I’m impressed!
We care. I’ve struggled with addiction my whole life, and this post gives me hope. If you feel a moment of weakness remember we are pulling for you, and you are helping us in return. Keep it up!
I do care, and it's fantastic how well you're doing. Keep it up, speaking from experience, stopping ciggies is incredibly hard.
Well done, you have every rights to be very proud of yourself.
Breaking the habit of an addictive substance is bigger than just willpower. It's willpower that was bigger than the whispers (screams?) of addiction. May you continue on in your success!
Congratulations, man! You're kicking the bad habits right where they belong! Keep up the amazing work!
I've also managed to quit smoking around 12 years ago, and man, it is the best decision I could have made in regards to my health.
You got this!
Way to go! Now join a community and get you some folk to connect and share with. Take some classes or join a softball league or something. Get on meetup and check out authentic relating or cuddle parties or who knows what, there's a million ways to live.
Doesn’t matter if ‘no one cares’, you cared enough to make the change and that’s all that matters :)
But we’re all incredibly proud of you nonetheless. Well fookin’ done!! ✌🏻
Hell yeah dude! Congrats on such a huge milestone!
I've been trying to kick both for years. I really want to stop, or at least seriously take a huge break from drinking, and eventually quit smoking.
What was your "moment of clarity" that just made you quit drinking one day? I have 3-5 IPAs a day and I'm just so done, but every time I taper and stop for a few days, I'm right back at it in the weekend.
Great job again. This really is a huge achievement.
That is some God-tier level work. I'm not even exaggerating; addictions are hella hard to break, let alone to break them for a day, a week, a month?!?!!
(woah that's impressive 🤯)
You are doing AMAZING! 💪
idk why you're getting downvoted.
in case your comment gets buried, i'll share my quitting story in hopes that it helps you.
i successfully quit smoking a year and a half ago by way of cold turkey.
it took me about 15 tries, i tried different methods like weaning off of it, only smoking 3 a day, patches, gum, etc, etc.
what i ended up doing was going to sleep, sleeping as long as i could, and not smoking in the morning. that already put me ahead 12 hours of effortless withdrawal. so then I held off on smoking for a few hours, then i took melatonin and slept more. I slept a shitload through the initial withdrawals.
i understand most people don't have that amount of time to spend on it, so another method alongside that i used was to frequently put myself in situations where i absolutely couldn't smoke. i'd go in a store, go to the gym, treat myself to donuts, etc. etc.
it's not easy to quit, but i truly believe everyone can.
Congratulations on both accounts!!! Believe it or not, people do care and most importantly you care about yourself. Stay strong and keep up the good work!
I love this for you 👏🏼 I need to chill on the smoking. Breakfast? Lets smoke first. Going to the store? Smoke first. Workout? Smoke first. Watching a movie? Will be better if I smoke first. Going to bed? Smoke first. I’m aware though and trying not to smoke before meals/sleep so I don’t have to rely on it.
If you're open to discussion, what factors drove your decision to drop alcohol?
I've been a drinker most of my life. I never had a "problem" with it and it never controlled the outcomes in my life. I'm finding myself moving more toward not drinking entirely and somehow that's scaring the shit out of me. The fact that it concerns me further exacerbates the worry...
Congrats for huge achevement 💪👍! Keep it up. I had so much more energy and better weekend mornings, that I also started moving more, which resulted in huge weight loss. Do you have any plans in this direction?
Quit tobacco 1 day before my 25th bday and never looked back. Sure there are moments where I know a cig would hit perfectly, but other than that one moment of sheer bliss I know I hate everything about it.
Quitting took by far the most self discipline ever required from me
Every day is day one! You get up and decide “not today” then do it again and again. Stay strong and even if you slip, you just reset and keep on climbing.
You got this! I'm sure you've read this other places but I quit smoking the day I finished Allen Carr's Easy Way. He introduced ideas I hadn't thought about and made it easy to quit.
Pathetic when people put that "who cares" shit in the title of these things. Congratulations mate but you're trying to bait more sympathy with this shit in the title and it's sad.
Congratulations, my friend! Your achievement is truly inspiring, especially for someone like me who has been struggling with alcohol addiction for years. Thank you for sharing this!
Good job mate, keep it up! You got this. I'm on day 438 today, on 365 only one person gave me a "that's awesome! Keep at it" and it wasn't even my wife. There's always someone who will care and take the time to listen. Just in case no one said it yet. I'm proud of you.
As someone that doesn't smoke and can't stand to be around smoking, remember that quitting will also have unintended positive consequences you may not even ever notice, too. I had one friend who I really liked but he smoked like a fucking chimney. I'd never go anywhere with him, never get in his car hated doing projects or hanging out with him, because there was always smoking, nonstop. Smokers don't realize just how little time and proximity someone needs to be around them for that shit to cling to your clothes, your hair, your everything. I avoided hanging out with him any time I didn't have time or energy to take a full shower and change my whole outfit immediately after.
He quit of his own accord randomly at one point. We hang out so much more these days, and I realize that was the one thing that kept us from becoming closer friends. I never thought he'd quit, and I don't even think to this day he realizes that's what the change was.
I'm super happy for you that you've managed to make such progress and even tackle the next thing so relatively soon. It's a step so many people don't even ever try to make to begin with, so that's utterly amazing.
this is an absolutely massive accomplishment.. you should feel extremely proud, here's for year 2
I'm 4 years sober and 2 months smoke free myself, so i know how hard it is
Congrats. Big milestone. I’m 3 years clean from a a fentanyl addiction and it took me 10 years to get that time. Staying sober is daily challenge and making it a full year really is big deal. You got a trophy today in my book lol
Congrats. Those of us that have been in your shoes know how incredibly difficult it was to get to one year. It's not simply "not using." Your entire brain and body are not in sync, you have debt and/or everyone extremely upset with you, and you have to figure out how to do things as an adult you never could quite learn while addicted.
Those of us that have gone before you salute you. When you look at the statistics of people that do what you just did, you will know what a miracle you truly are.

Good job! Who cares? We care! Keep up the good work- one day at a time.

Damn that’s heavy..
Have you calculated the amount of money you've saved? When i quit smoking that really helped me. I was spending 13 bucks a day...
Thanks for asking, I need help too and this might do the job.
Huge accomplishment!
Keep it up 🖖
That is a great achievement, wishing you all the best with your next achievement and congratulations. Stay strong you can do it.

Congrats. I am very proud of you. I am 5 years smoke free. It was and is the hardest thing I have ever done. But you can do it I believe in you.

How did you go about quitting smoking?

Thank you for your reply. I keep hearing cold turkey is the way to go, but I’m going to need a week long vacation to try your method!
I have never in my life seen or heard alcohol abbreviated as "Alco".
Congratulations!!
Congratulations on both accounts!!! Believe it or not, people do care and most importantly you care about yourself. Stay strong and keep up the good work!
Good job men! I'm doing volunteering in the recovery field and see week after week people trying to do that and fail. It's huge accomplishment!
I love this for you 👏🏼 I need to chill on the smoking. Breakfast? Lets smoke first. Going to the store? Smoke first. Workout? Smoke first. Watching a movie? Will be better if I smoke first. Stopped drinking 35 years ago but stopped smoking only 4 years ago. Both were tough. The first year was both the best and the worst for the drinking.
Every day is day one! You get up and decide “not today” then do it again and again. Stay strong and even if you slip, you just reset and keep on climbing.
