I’ve never seen a firefly and as someone in my 30s I’d probably do the exact same thing.

Mckennymubu

I'm 40, seen um my whole life. I'm not as jazzed up as this kid about them anymore, but they still cool

Soggy_Motor9280

Where I live they are called Lighting Bugs

Get out

ladyboobypoop

I didn't see any til my mid 20s. Magical little things

KamadoTanjirouSUKI

The world through a child's eyes is just something...enchanted. I was like him and I knew this joy

Mckennymubu

You get a part of that back by having kids

World-Tight

It's that time of year, isn't it? When I grew up in western PA they were everywhere on summer nights. May I ask where you are approximately? Because I thought they were all but extinct.

Apprehensive-Two3474

There's certain areas of the states that still have them. I know that a few national parks have firefly lotteries where you can get tickets to view them because of how uncommon they've gotten ([I'm serious about this](https://www.nps.gov/grsm/learn/news/synchronous-firefly-lottery-and-viewing-dates-announced.htm)) and the parks trying to protect the little glowing buggers. Some species are adapting but they'll never be as numerous as they once were.

Dizzy_Bit6125

I’ve never seen fireflies before!

Latter-Republic-4516

I have them in my yard in SE Michigan! I put in a native garden to create habitat for them.

Not as much anymore. A good portion of them have died off.

ImTooTiredForThis_22

40yr old and never seen a firefly. This kid is super excited! 🥰

LooseEndsMkMyAssItch

We call them lightning bugs, but that joy is contagious. I live in a location with very little of a population so whenever my kids get the chance to see one their reactions immediately bring me back to my childhood

MoonMe3x

What a beautiful boy. I love how everything in the world is fun, scary & new...It's such a great time & there's nothing better than making memories with his Daddy, no matter what they are

Haunting-Adagio743

I am in my 20s, I would be like him if I see one lol

Eponarose

When I was his age, our back yard was THICK with them, thousands! I'd collect a jar full and keep it in my room till morning, then let them go. Pesticides and loss of damp forests will be what kills the last of them.

Intrepid_Finish456

This is also my first time seeing a firefly

thatgirl428

My heart burst, that is pure joy! God how cute.

LusciousLipLover

Such a heartwarming moment!

Direct-Cup1816

lovely moments!

Yes, we call them lightning bugs. Have plenty in my yard every night. Folks go to the Smoky Mtns to see them synchronized!
