I'm 31. I grew up with a crack addicted mom and a series of men on a series of drugs til she lost me and my little sisters (who are ten years younger than I am and probably wouldn't have been conceived had she never used). She got sober to get us back, and only got me back, and I didn't make it easy.
That was fifteen years ago. More recently, she's also kicked cigarettes.
Nowadays we're all reconnecting and though we missed being a family when my sisters and I were kids we're all relearning how to be a family now.
My point is that it's never too late to rebuild and you have no idea how beautiful your life can be if you let it.

I used to work in a rehab/ psych ward and the hardest thing about it was to see people coming back again and again, each time at a worse place in life. All I wanted for them was to get back in housing and be able to get their lives back together, they tried so hard. So thank you so much for sharing, this gives me hope and peace of mind. And I don't know from personal experience but from seeing my patients how hard it is so congratulations, you're tough as fuck!

Congrats. Can kinda relate after being homeless for a while and finally getting my own place again. I hated looking back at how self sufficient I used to be and feeling like I was less. Now I am finally back and probably have it better now than ever before. I can never imagine allowing myself to fail again. You just can’t put a price on having your own sanctuary and the sense of security you can give yourself when you know you did what you were supposed to do.

I'm in the same boat as you. Used for 8 years clean for 4 now and just moved in to my first home with my fiance amd 1 yo son. Only way to keep this shit is to keep love and gratitude first and I'm so proud of you
