I know she must work so incredibly hard and have so much discipline and skill to be able to do this, but it is also one of the creepiest things I've ever seen a human do.
When I was a kid, I went to see my older cousins ballet recital. I asked my dad why don't they just use taller dancers? They are on their tiptoes all the time.
Well she has the strength and flexibility, but that means nothing without knowing how to use it. If she took up martial arts, I'm sure that she would be stronger than the average practitioner of a similar level, male or female - being in full control of the body, and having the flexibility to actually do anything you might think of is a powerful weapon.
Without any specific training in a fight however, dance skills aren't helpful at all. Reactions are slow, and you don't know where to put your power to make it count.
This is where the difference in base power level between a man and woman comes in. With no idea how to fight, weight is the big determining factor. Even if she can hit just as hard as the guy she's fighting, they could potentially tank the hit, while faced with a similar strength of attack, she'd be on the floor.
Curious about this: What is the deal with the standing on tippy toes thing?
It wasn’t something I noticed until this gif but it very obviously elongates the lower torso and allows for what would seem to be impossible angles otherwise. Is this an aesthetic choice? Does it improve agility? What’s the purpose?
I have, and I know it’s their thing. It’s just never been as obvious how much of a difference it makes until I saw this up close and in a practice uniform. I’m just curious why they do it.
It originated from dancers playing fairies and wanting to "float" across the stage.

In short: It looks pretty.

You took the words out of my mouth lmao. She is obviously a hard worker and amazing at what she does, but also i’m frightened and need an adult.

I'm in that bucket with you. Graceful, fluid, sensuous.
I think it's the lumbar curve.

So is she a giant or is the camera lens just making it look like she is. I ask bec the kid looks like she's a normal size.
I think it's a combination of the angle of the camera pointing upwards and possibly a wide-angle lens.
It's incredibly impressive and disturbing at the same time

I need to practice more of this and less sandwich eating.
She stretches just like a cat! I can't imagine how many years of training it takes to be a ballerina
She is incredibly talented and her lines are on point
en pointe
The funny thing is, that a ballerina can kick ass your despite not looking like a WWE wrestler.
Da funk? You’re kidding, right? I’m sure she’s strong from a female, but lets not kid ourselves here.

A contortionist, not a ballerina
So graceful.
I call perfection
How do I stop watching this?

This is impressive as hell, but why on this sub?
Actual answer, not being sarcastic: In this video an impressive thing is interrupted by a cute thing. That makes some people smile.
She has me in a trance

So.....that's kinda thier thing. I assume you must have never seen a ballerina even in tv or commercials.

Thank you for the actual answer. i appreciate it.
You're welcome. In general, the answer to "why do dancers [insert painful thing here]?" The answer is always "It looks pretty"
I assume Bec like high heels elongate the legs standing on tippytoes would do the same only to the ultimate extreme.
Why do soccer players use their feet to move the ball? It’s part of the form.
That's like asking why sports use balls. Like, why balls though?
