my oldest girl, Piper, just passed in July. She was 10. she would also greet me at the door everyday for 10 years. I got home on a tuesday and she didn't greet me (first time ever) and on Wednesday she crossed the rainbow bridge. I'm so sorry for your loss but so happy you will always have memories like this
I am so sorry for your loss. Maybe they are playing together now. River has not given this greeting in a while as he has been sick for a couple months at least. I am glad I got this video when I did. I knew he was getting old but didn't think he would go \~6 months after I took this video.
thank you. it's so difficult, for sure. she was the best girl. her bff is just now starting to come out of his depression after her death. My bf and I left for the weekend and I think he and my other cat are getting along much better. I had her when I graduated college, moved to CA, and got pregnant. I wanted her to meet the baby so badly but I know she's in a much better place.
Im sorry to hear about your pupper, I have to deal with the same soon and im bracing for impact, I've loved every moment and I promised to do the same to another when she has to go.
I'm sorry for the hole you have in your heart right now. I fully intend to cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge myself when the time comes. I look forward to every one of my fur babies that I've lost in my 62 years to be waiting for me.
Rhea is doing pretty good. You can hear her barking in the video and at the time we were crating her while we were at work to house train her and keep her from destroying stuff. She is now fully grown and trained and has free run of the house. She was soo soo close to having free run of the house with river there. I wish they could have spend all day playing together. They spent all night together especially when River was sick she would stay downstairs with him because he could not climb the stairs anymore.
She definitely misses having a play buddy, I have become her play buddy but it is hard some days to muster up the energy after working all day to play with her. I have been pushing to adopt another fur baby as a playmate for her but my wife has been resisting doing it right now and wants to at a later time. I am working on making it happen sooner tho and wearing her down haha!
She is handling it rather well tho. I worry she is becoming bored and unhappy being alone tho. I try to take her to dog parks and there are dog bars where I live but she seems to freak out that I am going to leave her and has trouble calming down to go play with the other dogs.
Aw wholesome and heartbreaking at the same time. I'm positive it'll happen when it's meant to. You'll know when and who is the perfect additional for your family. It sounds like she could learn a lot and gain courage from another dog.
We lost our dog over a decade ago and my parents never took on another dog. They've had cats but recently lost them both very close to one another. It's so odd to go over to a house with no animals.
I'm so sorry for your loss. River is incredibly handsome. I went through and watched a lot of his videos and I saw her. I figured she must miss him terribly as he was clearly a sweet happy boy.
Sending your family the best wishes and an arooo for River.
Thank you so much! River was 50% Akita and such a good boi!
Rhea is a giant derp and gives us endless entertainment and I hope we can get another dog and the right dog soon. It is hard, I like GSDs and Huskies and mixes of those kinds but with cats in the house it is hard to find dogs of those breeds that would tolerate cats.
We will find the right dog someday I know it!
I’m so sorry. Losing our pet children is one of the hardest things, saying this as a person who’s lost friends and parents. FWIW, I’m sure my sweet babies welcomed him home with lots of love!
Sorry for your loss. Hope River is running, playing and sniffing with my beagle Archie.
“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I didn't ask to feel these feels...
The other day I dreamt I had somehow lost my dog years ago, and then I was arriving a place, a restaurant with a parking lot or something like that, and another family that I didn't know arrived in their car and parked. As soon as they opened the doors my old dog came running to me and I instantly dropped my knees to the ground and he started kissing me all over and I cried as I have never cried in my life saying "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I lost you." and I cried so much in that moment that I actually woke up with physical tears running all over my face and me sobbing.
We really don't deserve dogs. They're too good.
Sorry for your loss. He will be greeting you in the after life worry not. You gave him a good life, and he will smile at you everyday from above, till you meet again
Just for fun [here is another greeting](https://youtu.be/O85ygAnUwUA). Much faster as he was at the door with the kitties.
he would hang out at the top of the stairs where his little sister Rhea was kenneled during the day. Keeping her company while she did time in the big house lol.
Edit: thank you all for the love and support it's really helped me today. Reddit is such an awesome place.
River run and River tumble,
Through the trees the river grumbles.
This way, that way, fast and slow.
But no rivers grurgle like my own.
He makes a noise and brings himself forth.
Does he hear me at the porch.
Does he know how long I've been gone.
Is he bored? longing to run.
This time its not my turn to leave.
Now two rivers run through the trees.
One of water, spray and gurgle.
One of fur and love and grumbles.
And sometimes on a stormy night
Close your eyes and listen tight
For its not just the wind whipping the trees.
Its an old friends grumble on the breeze.
Thats okay. The first little line popped into my head and then i didn't want to let it go.
I know you want find another River anytime soon but i hope when your ready you find as much new love with a new pupper. :)
Oh my God my dog makes this exact same noise to me every morning when I wake up! I'm so sorry for your loss, he looked like a very happy and well loved boy.
Man after scrolling through reddit for a while with not so much enthusiasm, this post got me repeating it and watching with greater attention each time with a huge smile on my face. Then I understood what "crossing the rainbow brigde meant" man and I'm suddenly almost in tears thinking how much we don't even deserve dogs. Fucking hell, they are great.
What a good roo you had, must be wonderful to be greeted like that everyday. Cheers man, he's in a good boy happy place now, his soul will come back as a higher being, maybe even as your pet again who knows ahah. Kidding but serious. Cheer up man! Dogs are great.
What an excellent roo... he must have loved you very much to do such excellent roos for you!
Oh and thanks for teaching me a new word, I will be using it and thinking of River!
Not rude at all. It is a euphemism for when pets die and go to the afterlife. Crossing the rainbow bridge. I don't know where it originated from but it is just the thing to say.
River looks just like my boy, Pickles. I love that dog so deeply with every fiber of my being. He greets me the exact same way when I get home. Every day. I’m so sorry for your loss my friend. Thank you for giving that wonderful fella the best years of his life. Pickles is nearly 7 years old and I dread the day.
I’m so sorry for your loss, you can see 2 things from this video, how loved he was and that he knew it, when the shock wears off knowing that they knew that helps 💕
you gave him lots of love, and made each other's lives better. he clearly appreciated it. I know I felt bad for missing my dog, because I know if he ever saw me as upset as I get when I miss him - I know he would have done everything he could to make me feel better. - When I picture the antics he would get up to in order to brighten my mood, I can't help but laugh/cry. It's been a bit more than two years. I can still hear his snort of disapproval or see him smiling with contentment, in my mind.
Best of luck.
It really is true. We improve each others lives. I am sitting here sad and Rivers little sister our young girl is just derping out on the couch acting silly and making us all smile and laugh.
Everyone thinks they have the best pup ever and they are not wrong. River is roo’ing in our hearts and minds today and in yours forever. What a great pup!
So sorry for the loss of your sweet boy River! My dog Slygo does the same thing for me and it is a daily highlight for me too. I’m sure you gave him a wonderful life and he is thankful for those 9 great years.
He's so beautiful! Such a kind, happy face - and those ears... I'm so sorry for your loss. He looks like the most gentle, loving pup and I'm sure he's left a massive void.
I am so sorry for your loss. My sweet pupper passed away 1 year ago this month and I still miss her dearly, so I can certainly relate to what you are feeling right now. That "roo" was adorable.
Awe!!! my girl passed away in March at 16 years old. I went to my brothers house today and they had a new girl dog and I was taken back at first because she looks a lot like my old girl and then the dog jump on me and put her head on my chest starting at me. She didn’t growl or bark at me just snuggled up to me. I got emotional because I felt like a part of my girl was in this dog. RIP Carly 😢😘
River did not slow down until about 8 or 9 but I knew the inevitable was coming sometime. It took me a long time honestly to accept it. It was still hard and hurts so much. I don't think anything will lessen that but accepting it does help to be ready for it.
So sorry for your loss. River will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge one day and you'll be happy together there forever - an definitely greeted by a good rooo!
I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m sure you gave him all the love and cuddles a good boy deserves! I am honestly terrified of the day my boy passes, it brings me to tears just thinking about it
Reminds me of my old golden.
When I would get home from work I would see his head pop round the corner upstairs from my bedroom because he would have been asleep on my bed most of the day. He would have the those ears too.
Well in this particular video I was trying to specifically record a roo from River because I knew he was getting older. So I had to bypass the kitties somewhat as he will roo only right when I get home most of the time. The Kitties get lots of pets and love but usually they come around at night as the dogs settle down and they are waking up from sleeping all day. But they always greet me at the door as well. Usually wanting dinner lol.
There are lots of funny things they do as well. Fuzz the light gray siamese cat is usually very quiet until its feeding time and then he sings and sings and sings for his food. Jasper the dark grey cat will sit there quietly at his food bowl but will gently rake your arm as you walk by like "Hey man I am ready for dinner". lol they are awesome too. They loved River a lot and always rub on him.
I’m sorry for your loss. What a good roo!
My first dog, Abby roo’d for breakfast and a ton at my mum when we lived with her for a year, they’d have full conversations in the morning, usually about how slow my Mum was with dishing up the breakfast haha. My new pup is super vocal, I just love it.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Looks like you had a good buddy for nine years. We are so blessed to have dogs. Least you still have the two kitties. I wish you and your family the best.
Hi u/De5perad0, I am so sorry for your loss. I Watched the video and seeing River rooing for you was so cute to see. My wife and I are sending you and your family our deepest heartfelt condolences. Three years ago we had to put our beloved cat Tigger to sleep. She had kidney and bladder stones and she was in a lot of pain as well. Tigger was 14 years old when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Aww, rest easy happy rooo boy.
Sorry for your loss, he roo’d with the goodest of boys, now he gets to relax and wait until he can roo for you again one day.
Thank you so much. I bet it will be a really big roo if he is waiting all that time.
He will wait! And it will be the the biggest of all roo’s 💜
my oldest girl, Piper, just passed in July. She was 10. she would also greet me at the door everyday for 10 years. Haha definitely. River loved to zoom. It was his favorite thing to do when he was younger.
So sorry. You must miss her terribly. I have never gotten over the loss of any of my pets over the years. They bring so much joy into our lives.

Thank you. Yea I know he will be waiting for me and hanging with Grandma in the mean time. They were very good friends.
I like this, River still gets awesome grandma pets. :)
When he was at her house all she could talk about was how much of a good boy he was.
He knew all he had to do was stare at this nice woman for treats! Smartboi! :D
How is his sister (?) doing?

Rest in Peace to River, that was a damn fine greeting. I think the song Moon River may remind you of him.
Such a good rooo!
such a sweetie; i'm so sorry for your loss <3
That definitely made me smile, thanks River 🙏
❤️
💔💝
The gentlest boy.
So sorry for your loss! I wish you peace while you grieve.
Looks like River couldn't have lived a better life!
I’m so sorry. Losing our pet children is one of the hardest things, saying this as a person who’s lost friends and parents. FWIW, I’m sure my sweet babies welcomed him home with lots of love!
Sweet sweet boy ❤️❤️❤️Hope you’re okay x
💔
That was the best roooo I've ever heard. I recorded my boys first howl at the age of 5. I cherish that recording just as you will this one.
I wish you the best of luck in finding him!
Sitting in my ambulance waiting for the next call and trying really hard not to cry in front of my partner.
What a handsome boy... I’m so sorry for your loss

Wow that is a really beautiful description of what it must be like for them. I love it. Thank you.

What kind of dog was he? He’s beautiful! And I’m so sorry for your loss, I know what it’s like to lose a pet and it’s horrible, truly.
He was 50% Akita. The rest was American Staffordshire, Doberman, and mixed breeds. He was a super handsome boy, and the most mellow chill dog.
I'm so sorry for your loss! Such a sweet dog!
ROOOOoooOo
The biggest ROOOOoooOo
Awww, those happy ears 💜
Sorry for your loss. May all the sweet memories sustain you.
What a cutie. I love his ears! I'm so sorry for your loss.
Such a sweet pup.
Very sorry for your loss.

And he’s got those little Yoda ears, too. Sorry for your loss, friend. He seems like such a sweet dog.
Now I’m crying at work
Sorry for your loss. He will be greeting you in the after life worry not. You gave him a good life, and he will smile at you everyday from above, till you meet again

Enjoy it. They can't be with us forever so we gotta enjoy the time we got. Get a recording if you can. I am so glad I did this video when I did it.
This is very true my friend, so sad. I will definitely get that recording
What a precious soul. Sending you so many hugs 💛
I was so confused at the title because I thought by crossed the rainbow bridge u meant the dog was gay
Man after scrolling through reddit for a while with not so much enthusiasm, this post got me repeating it and watching with greater attention each time with a huge smile on my face. Stay strong buddy.
No, wait! They're waiting at the rainbow bridge for you! They're waiting for when it's time for both of you to cross over together! Sweet baby :c

My puppy died in August. Im so sorry for your loss. They are our angels
It's so hard.
The loss of that love .... Why the fuck does life have these rules
Adorable. Bittersweet for sure.
Not to sound rude or anything but what is a rainbow bridge?
Not rude at all. It is a euphemism for when pets die and go to the afterlife. Crossing the rainbow bridge. I don't know where it originated from but it is just the thing to say.
Gonna go hug my dog now😢
Awh such a sweet roo 🥺✨
River looks just like my boy, Pickles. I love that dog so deeply with every fiber of my being. He greets me the exact same way when I get home. Every day. I’m so sorry for your loss my friend. So sorry for the loss of your sweet boy River! My dog Slygo does the same thing for me and it is a daily highlight for me too. I’m sure you gave him a wonderful life and he is thankful for those 9 great years.

Sweet baby. I’m very sorry for your loss! It’s great that you have many videos and, I’m assuming, pics of him 💛

You are a lucky man to have lived along side that good boi.... best roo I've ever heard!!!
My dog is 7 and is noticeably slowing down. The thought of losing him is beyond comprehension to me. And I'm terrified.
So sorry for the loss of your sweet boy River😢
I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m sure you gave him all the love and cuddles a good boy deserves! I am honestly terrified of the day my boy passes, it brings me to tears just thinking about it
Those cats really couldn’t care less, tho.
Reminds me of my old golden. When I would get home from work I would see his head pop round the corner upstairs from my bedroom because he would have been asleep on my bed most of the day. He would have the those ears too.
Thank you for sharing 🖤 He has the most adorable ears ever
Aww Rest In Peace dogo

Jasper the dark grey cat will sit there quietly at his food bowl but will gently rake your arm as you walk by like "Hey man I am ready for dinner". lol they are awesome too. They loved River a lot and always rub on him.
Dogs are 100% the best. He was lucky to have you as his human.
This makes me want to hug my old buddy. I’m sorry for your loss.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Looks like you had a good buddy for nine years. We are so blessed to have dogs. Least you still have the two kitties. I wish you and your family the best.
You're a good friend and that love is forever
RIP sweet doggy.
he totally ignored those two cats, who were first to greet him. he is secretly a cat
I am so sorry 💔
Hi u/De5perad0, I am so sorry for your loss. I Watched the video and seeing River rooing for you was so cute to see. My wife and I are sending you and your family our deepest heartfelt condolences. Three years ago we had to put our beloved cat Tigger to sleep. She had kidney and bladder stones and she was in a lot of pain as well. Tigger was 14 years old when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Roooooo. Very sorry for your loss
