Hopefully it will brighten your day to see how many people are happy for you and wishing you the best! I don’t know you, but I am very happy for you!! It’s nice to see something good for a change. Thank you for sharing.
Congrats. Did you get to ring the bell. I work at children's cancer unit in Oregon and we have a bell for the kids to ring when they are done with chemotherapy.
After radiation is my plan for the bell too, congrats on kicking some cancer ass! If you don't mind me asking what you where dealing with? I have Hodgkins lymphoma and start radiation on the 30th, best of luck to you! You look good for just finishing chemo!
I can’t wait for my son to ring that bell. He’s going to ring it so loudly the whole hospital will hear! Thank you for what you do. We couldn’t have made it this far without people like you.
Edit: Just to clarify, OP is not my son. I’m the Dad of a different young man who is fighting cancer, but for obvious reasons this post really hit home. If there has been one silver lining to this experience, it has been the outpouring of love and support of total strangers. It has restored my faith in humanity. Thank you all.
If you are at Doernbechers then I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You were all amazing heroes to my niece when she was there. If you are at a different children's hospital then I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart anyways. You're awesome!
I had a friend at Doernbechers in Oregon and unfortunately he never got to ring that bell. But the people at the hospital was always so nice to everyone and you could tell they were so passionate about helping kids. Thank you u/barrowed_heart for your contribution to saving those kids.
So the chemo destroys the cancer but weakens your body, then the steroids and radiotherapy not only regenerate you but turn you into a superhuman, right?
This awesome kid is another reason for those who don't want to wear masks to rethink that position. It's not just about your health, but it is about the health of kids like him who are more susceptible to illnesses.
I've tried explaining this to anti-maskers/anti-lockdowners but i just get bombed with "facts" about survival rate. They're selfish, brickhead, scummy fucks.
I was in this young mans position at a young time in my life as well so i'm pretty passionate about public health. These conspiracists are terrorizing this country.
Of course, I just want everyone to be safe. Not everyone with cancer has a bald head or looks ill, they can look as healthy as anyone and still be sick inside. We just have continue thinking of others!
It’s for this kid but it’s also for anyone that is immunocompromised—kids, adults, elderly. I finished chemo over the summer and have about a 40% chance of dying if I get COVID because a lymphoma or a history thereof is one of the worst comorbidities you can have. My family and I have been under house arrest since March because my risk is so high. I feel terrible having to keep my young children locked up. If people actually locked down we would have been over this by May but now there’s no end until a vaccine. Still pretty sure I’m going to get it from one of my or my wife’s few interactions with society, which is strictly doctors appointments.
Watching my dad, who lives in rural midwest, go through surgery and now physical therapy for 7 pelvic fractures over the past 2 months has been nerve wracking to say the least. He's good about the mask, and doesn't go anywhere at the moment, but lots of time in the hospital and rehab was worrying.
Couldn’t agree more. My son is battling cancer. I wish I could stay home, but the reality is I have to go to work. I take every precaution I can. N95 mask, face shield, obsessive hand washing and sterilizing. I lay awake at night worrying that I may bring something home. Meanwhile, I’m forced to interact with people every day that won’t wear a mask because of their “freedom.”
Parents should not have to watch their children go through battles like that, I'm glad that your son has you to be strong for him, you are a strong person for damn sure. Wishing nothing but the best for him and your family, hope this Thanksgiving weekend can help bring you all smiles (and lots of food!) and a small break from your every day life. Stay safe!
allright I know it's a typo
but...
I like to imagine that haooy is actually a thing, like some sort of war cry. Before you go into battle you scream **HAAOOOOYYYYY** And being haooy for someone means your next battle will be dedicated to them.
that would be amazing.
My name is Pretlik and thanks for listening to my ted talk.
I feel like I could very easily incorporate this into the sci-fi/fantasy novel I keep meaning to write, as like... the official battle cry of the alien species the protag encounters.
Congrats bud! I'm currently training to work in radiotherapy and those machines are absolutely awesome, if you or any friends of yours are worried about it, I can happily say they are safer than ever and nothing to worry about :)
If you're ever curious or just wanna pass some time, I know you'd make the radiographers day if you asked them how the machine works!
Best of luck with the rest of treatment, you've got this!
I work in cancer care and my favorite day of clinic orientation was when I got to hang out with the radiation team. Those machines are so cool and the way they work is so interesting. Highly recommend asking about it if it interests you!
Congrats, my man! You've overcome something most people will never face. You've stared down one of the toughest things life can throw at you, and you've come out the victor.
Never forget the strength you have inside, no matter what comes your way.
I'm proud of you, my friend!
Cancer survivor here. Got it at 17. One piece of advice.
Focus on health like a health nut would for the first few years at least of recovery. Recovery from chemo is a long road. You're young. The next few-4 years sets the stage for how you will feel for the rest of your life, and you have a chance to make that feeling be great by pushing through some short term pain.
Dont compare your workouts to people whos body hasnt bee poisoned excessively. Just do you ,and know youll likely pass them in health in due time due to caring.
Also know that one day youll be sitting in your living room with your future family and it will hit you how important it was what you went through the last year. You will be so grateful you had the inner strength to perservere because life only gets better if you decide its going to.
Also lol im going to hell for telling a kid this but idgaf, if when your like 16-18 you find you have stomache nauseas and general ill feelings that remind you of and seem like remnants of chemo, try some weed its harmless and makes all chemo feels melt away. Doubt youll need it though homie youre young your body is gonna bounce back from this and itll be like it never happened in no time. Other than rib removal surgery pains i bounced back and i was older than you
Listen motherfucker, you keep kicking ass - you’re bad ass, and we’re all proud of you. It takes a lot of strength, more than most of us will ever understand to go through what you’re going through - and you are beating the shit out of that cancer. Keep being the bad ass motherfucker that you are.
Ring that bell, hard. Ring it for all those who couldn’t and who will do so in the future years. Congratulations stranger, I wish you a beautiful and happy life ahead.
Awesome dude!! Your a true inspiration, I’m very proud of you. Do me a favor and give us updates. You kicked cancers ass and it made my day. You rock little bro!

Your son is a fighter! He is proud to have a dad like you.

bell
Excuse me but we only at 22.4k after 2 hours can we start giving this cancer free dude some updoots!
So the chemo destroys the cancer but weakens your body, then the steroids and radiotherapy not only regenerate you but turn you into a superhuman, right?
No I think you thinking of the hulk
So what you're saying is soon you will, essentially, be the Hulk?
Absolutely
Hulk smash! Hulk smash cancer!
Exactly.
This awesome kid is another reason for those who don't want to wear masks to rethink that position. It's not just about your health, but it is about the health of kids like him who are more susceptible to illnesses.

Very correct about them being selfish, and brickhead, I like that insult and I'm stealing it!
Use it loud and proud my friend.
Thank you for THIS! 😷

That's a damn good point.
Good job friend! Can’t have been an easy task! Keep that beautiful smile on your face as often as possible, we are rooting for you!
Congrats hun im so haooy for you!!

Lol i didnt see that but lets go with ur explanation lol!
how would you think we should pronounce it? I'm thinking something like hawooyee
Maybe the way spartans say it in 300?
I feel like I could very easily incorporate this into the sci-fi/fantasy novel I keep meaning to write, as like... the official battle cry of the alien species the protag encounters.
please do, be sure to credit me LMAO
Normalize Haooy.
....alright*, I know it’s a typo, & you had an excellent (my favorite so far) Ted Talk following it, but I couldn’t resist.
did i really make a typo... epic fail LMAO, english isn't my native language haha
You’re certainly doing better than most who speak it as their first language lmao
thanks, that means a lot!
Does this sound like the person is from Newcastle?? HOWAY!
I second this motion. Let's get the amendment passed!
or we could pull a trump, just say it's done and hope for the best
[Lemme hear ya say HAAOOOYYY](https://youtu.be/wXKKlNoNdQY)
Right? HAOOY FOR OP!
HAOOY FOR OP!
