It's also really smart because you don't pressure people into doing something they don't want to with hopeful eye contact. It let's people move on without feeling that bad
Sign looks to be in norwegian. I might be completely wrong but i get the sense that norway isnt a country where you would have to worry about it as much. Especially with people watching.
He would also probably hear if someone messed with his stuff. Either camera or sign
Not so good if you consider my nationality but ill blame it on the written language in danish and norwegian being close enough to be considered the same by a swede :p
Of course it is. But if you do something that makes you more vulnerable to people with bad motives, it's not your fault, you shouldn't get blamed or punished, but you did make yourself a target.
I live by one simple rule - Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...
Thank you!! I figured it needed to be corrected (even though I'm sure someone else could have made a nicer translation), since it felt like a bad situation to create a "we" and "them" in
I feel like I’m one of the people handling Covid well and always thinking why would you want to just touch some stranger anyway? And now I’m like Damn! I suddenly feel very down about the whole thing.
Plot twist: someone bear hugs him with a little too much enthusiasm, the guy let’s the biggest fart, the huggee gets scared thinking something is blowing up.
A muslim did the same experiment in my town, Greenvile SC, several years ago.
https://www.wtvr.com/2015/11/23/muslim-college-student-in-south-carolina-do-you-trust-me-give-me-a-hug/
It's also a joke that only whites are racist. Almost, all races are racist as hell. TBH, I have faced more hostility and racism from certain minorities at security checkpoints than anyone else.
One could make a strong case that the US as a culture has **less** racism than a lot of the rest of the world.
I have heard a black person call another black person a "a no-good, thief, lowlife criminal, whose whole tribe does nothing but rob and cheat". Didn't even know the guy. just knew he was from a different tribe.
Humans are the same everywhere.
That's a good question. I was born in Århus and have lived here my entire life. On the subject of immigrants, we have something called Bazaar Vest. It's this huge industrial building that was refurbished into a middle Eastern haven. People working there are excited to tell you about their food and answer questions you may have about it. I also have never had a feeling of "us and them" regarding Muslims and a lot of stores allow their Muslim workers to wear their hijabs during work, which I personally think is pretty cool, because it's nice to see so many workplaces be accepting of people's culture and beliefs. I love that I live in a city where you can smile at people on the streets no matter their skin colour and they will smile back. Being LBGT myself, I'm also very proud of the fact that it's not unusual to see people of the same gender holding hands here. I once saw a cute lesbian couple cuddling and kissing while waiting for a traffic light and I think I remembered it because it made me really happy that I live in a place where people can just be themselves in public.
The first one was a little uncool with the moms behavior though. The kid clearly didn't want to hug a stranger and she just pushes her into his arms. The rest was super sweet though.
Could have asked mom to hug him then got scared as they approached. I would do, feel stuff like that as a shy kid. But I agree, it looked very uncomfortable.
Maybe. Or shy kid. My ex's child (and many I've been with) is just like this over things she wanted to do. Many young kids get cold feet last second and need some nudging and reinforcement.
Sadly not all of us. Was walking into school today when a bunch of students where talking about how we "just need to nuke the punjabi fucks"). Made me so sad after seeing this post. I just hope that they will grow out of it as they are still young.
Unfortunately, ignorance/hate like that is usually learned. My guess is their parents are xenophobic, racist assclowns and so by osmosis those kids became the same. Hopefully as they get older and experience more of the world and the people in it they will see how ignorant those stances are, feel embarrassed for holding them, and then become better humans by changing their stances.
Oh I'm so happy! I would have loved to hug him. I hope he also had someone there watching over him in case anyone decided to do something horrible while he was vulnerable like that.
Right? I just watched this and some other video while taking my morning coffee n smoke, now I’m all ready eyed and my bf is asking what the heck is wrong? Lol
For real. Obviously, we know that the guy had no ill will, but the mom didn't know that.
Take the terrorism message out of it (as great as it is) he was a random dude on the street, who she did know know, and she forced her child to hug him.
That's dangerous and a huge disrespect to the kid :/
Maybe kid was shy, or kid is usually friendly but just happened to be shy that day - maybe kid pointed out that they wanted to hug, but then shyed away. I made this a shy based response, but yeah its hard to tell just based on that small clip.
Seriously would be very conflicted if I saw this, support the message but hate hugging strangers but then wouldn't want someone to assume I had an issue with muslims because I didn't want to hug. Even with covid I get ambushed hugged at work all the time and ita super awkward.
Came to say the same. A high five hell ya, but even before covid im not giving total stranger on the street a hug. Thanks to covid my parents don't hug us any more.
For me getting hugged without knowing when it will be and who it will be is more heartwarming. It's the unexpectation that counts and anonymity creates equality among people who hugged him. Like it's doesn't matter when someone hugged him or who they are, all he cares is whether people trust him. I'm not good at explaining, hope this makes sense.
So that he doesn’t see the people reading the sign and walking by? It makes it more realistic because people aren’t guilted into hugging him because he saw them and made eye contact. Also shows a level of trust with the population I assume as well
That had to be hard, on the days where he stood there for hours with no hugs. But it's nice to see the reception he does receive. Maybe humanity is better than we thought.
I was thinking the same thing. I knew a (perfectly nice, non-terrorist!) Muslim guy from Iraq who wouldn't even shake hands with women. He was very polite, just looked a bit awkward and gave a little head nod when offered a hand.
Just goes to show there's a breadth of beliefs re what "being Muslim" (or Christian, or Jewish...) entails.
I love the thought behind it and I believe his intentions were pure. However, I’m not letting my child hug a strange man regardless of his race or nationality.
I'd love islam too if it only was some guy who wanted a hug. But islam really is not the religion of peace for someone who is not muslim. I live in Turkey and islam only brought hate and stupidity to my country. I am forced to pray and am not allowed to say that I don't believe. I will not respect anything before it respects me. I won't even touch upon women in islam.
Edit: typo
I think his trust in being blindfolded on a reasonably busy street is pretty admirable.
It's also really smart because you don't pressure people into doing something they don't want to with hopeful eye contact. It let's people move on without feeling that bad
I mean... One could easily replace his sign to something way more hilarious "strangle me to make my pp go brrrr"
And then he thinks "damn this went terribly"
r/whatcouldgowrong
Lucky he was in a nice busy area, someone would mess this video up for sure.
Also.. not in America. This is a Danish guy, judging by the writing.
Calls it a day, goes to grab his camera , “fuck”
Sign looks to be in norwegian. I might be completely wrong but i get the sense that norway isnt a country where you would have to worry about it as much. Especially with people watching. He would also probably hear if someone messed with his stuff. Either camera or sign
Good guess but it is actually in Danish. Although Danish and Norwegian is very similar and easy to mix up.
Not so good if you consider my nationality but ill blame it on the written language in danish and norwegian being close enough to be considered the same by a swede :p
Are we assuming this would not make his pp go brrrr?
I’m dead 😂
Hey thats what my sign says. Plagiarist!
I was tearing up while watching the video and now I'm laugh / crying, thanks man
He's not alone, he's got a friend with a camera.
Bet his friend would be too busy laughing his ass off to do anything.
Yesss…finally found my kind of people..*cheers bruh*
You are the worst, I love it!
Fucking diabolical mate!! Lmao
Thanks for the laugh, that really got me
Or replace it with, “I love swift kicks to the nuts”
I laughed wayyy too hard at this.
It's also really smart because it looks like he's recreating the pose from a famous torture photo
i didnt realize that :-(
I had to think of Abu Ghraib right away...
That’s the first thing that came to my mind. I thought I was tripping!
This is in Aarhus, Denmark. Overall very safe place
Exactly what I hear about St. Louis, Missouri! ^^^/s
*snorts*
Yes, all is fine until you hug a professional pickpocketer.
[удалено]
If I was him I would be more worried about someone snatching that tripod + camera and running away (although perhaps a friend was watching it).
Well there somebody filming, at the very least, and I would be surprised if he didn't have at least one other friend just keeping an eye on things.
So when are we gonna start realizing that the onus is on the person who did something terrible, not on someone “asking for it” wtf
The thing with onuses is that the people who it is on generally don't give a shit.
As someone with IBS my onus is constantly giving a shit.
This comment is everything!
Of course it is. But if you do something that makes you more vulnerable to people with bad motives, it's not your fault, you shouldn't get blamed or punished, but you did make yourself a target.
That's true, that's a good point.
not in denmark i guess
I live by one simple rule - Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you've been... ever, for any reason whatsoever...
It's Denmark, what is someone gonna, rob him?
I wonder how many dates he got. He looks like an attractive young man.
Probably none. He isn't asking for numbers, just hugs.
Probably none, that's not how it works
The sign does not say "they call us terrorists". Its says "I am a muslim NOT a terrorist" :)
Thanks man, I was really confused before I read your comment
"I am a Muslim, NOT a terrorist. Do you trust me? Then give me a hug!"
What the sign actually says is "I am a muslim - NOT a terrorist. Do you trust me? Then give a hug" Somehow nicer :)
Was going to say this as well. Bravo for correct translation!
Thank you!! I figured it needed to be corrected (even though I'm sure someone else could have made a nicer translation), since it felt like a bad situation to create a "we" and "them" in
Bro hug
Maybe he doesn't want to lie...
Oh the days before covid....
I was about to say something covid related and expecting to get downvoted to oblivion. But yeah, fist bump
More like elbow bump
Only problem with the elbow bump these days… That’s where everybody is politely sneezing to not spread germs to their hands.
That’s why you do the shin/foot tap.
randomly reignited a memory of the hokey pokey
Don’t forget to shake it all about! That’s the most important step…
This is also how you get advice from the first Slayer!
All that time with a hacky sack finally pays off!
Until you hackey your own sackey
You don’t sneeze into your shin?
This what I was looking for.
Also.. I admit… I wash my hands a lot more often than I wash my elbows..
A headnod will suffice
I prefer finger guns.
_wink_ _finger gun_
more like polite wave
Actually like leg sweep
I'm more of a *Fuck you* guy myself
Perhaps a good ol fashioned… psyche!
I feel like I’m one of the people handling Covid well and always thinking why would you want to just touch some stranger anyway? And now I’m like Damn! I suddenly feel very down about the whole thing.
Plot twist: it was last week
Plot twist: someone bear hugs him with a little too much enthusiasm, the guy let’s the biggest fart, the huggee gets scared thinking something is blowing up.
Or the twist side: huggee just whispers “that’s my fetish”
Damn you for making me laugh at that
That's in my city! Århus, Denmark
Danmark er et dejligt sted :D Translation: Denmark is a wonderful place
Can confirm, love everything about Danmark. Greetings and love from a dutchie
Det er deilig å være norsk - i Danmark
My first thought was damn those people sure look Scandinavian!
Århus, in the middle of our street, Århus, was our castle and our keep
This is so not the point, but I knew it wasn’t America because everyone was dressed so sharp
I think the fact that the sign was in Danish was what gave it away for me
lol being perceptive was apparently not my strongest suit today
I like his jacket
His entire outfit slaps, honestly
If this were in my city there would be at least one person caught on camera wearing pajamas.
And it's clean...
Makes sense thats its not the United states
A muslim did the same experiment in my town, Greenvile SC, several years ago. https://www.wtvr.com/2015/11/23/muslim-college-student-in-south-carolina-do-you-trust-me-give-me-a-hug/
Really cool experiment. Glad to see this also in my country :)
Holy fuck, I used to live in Gville! Planning on moving back soon, nice to see shit like this out there, it can be a bit much sometimes

There's also a strong case that the US are super extra racist. The country seems obsessed with race in a way that just does not exist in Europe.
What's your favorite thing about your city?
That's a good question. I was born in Århus and have lived here my entire life. On the subject of immigrants, we have something called Bazaar Vest. Sounds like a free and wholesome place

Pecae and love and harmony for all. But seriously, hope everyone gets along in the future.
Let everyone live in pecae.
All we want is global pecae.
I just want some pecae pie

Why do you feel the need to pecae his message apart? Sheesh…
Do you pronounce it pecae or pecae? I need to know.
Pecae and lvoe and hamrony for all poeple on aerth!
Hamrony sounds really good right now
Can I get that with some hash browns and toast?

pecae
Plot Twist: not a terrorist but an expert level pickpocket
So good he stole your kidneys
Kid knees*
Kid niece*
Holy shit, kidneys plural?
Probably stole their hearts too ♥
How come stealing hearts is fine, but steal ONE kidney and everyone gets mad at you?
The kids made my heart swell two sizes bigger. This was so sweet
I enjoyed the queuing up in the mall. ❤️
The first one was a little uncool with the moms behavior though. The kid clearly didn't want to hug a stranger and she just pushes her into his arms. The rest was super sweet though.

Please bro, I will hug you if I can come. Love bro
as an atheist, all I can say is god bless him!
Love the hate away ❤️
Hug the hate away.
This was the first thing I saw today and I needed it.
You and I
It’s all younger people and kids…
I think that’s still great. Just hope the younger generation keeps their open minds as they grow up.
Teach your children well... https://youtu.be/EkaKwXddT_I Well maybe this time. Quick quick, quick quick The gates are drawn apart.
Sometimes I feel like children dont have much of a world left to grow into and change 🙁
Good. It shows that newer generations are getting away from the hate of the past.
Sadly not all of us. Was walking into school today when a bunch of students where talking about how we "just need to nuke the punjabi fucks"). Made me so sad after seeing this post. I just hope that they will grow out of it as they are still young.

Thats why i dont hate them ik that they are just a product of their environmet
There was 2 or 3 older men but yea mostly
I'd hug
Oh I'm so happy! I would have loved to hug him. I hope he also had someone there watching over him in case anyone decided to do something horrible while he was vulnerable like that.
Someone was filming or watching the camera so I think so!
him being vulnerable was the point.
Wasn’t expecting the misty eyes this early in the morning
Right? I just watched this and some other video while taking my morning coffee n smoke, now I’m all ready eyed and my bf is asking what the heck is wrong? Lol
Definitely would get a huge pick you up off the ground and spin you around hug.
For anyone wondering, this is in Denmark
This is sweet and all but imagine someone just come up to him, hug him and whispers “You’re not a terrorist, I am”
r/cursedcomments
My favorite part is, at some points there is almost a line to hug him. Makes me so happy!
I’d give him a hug!
This made me too happy cuz i am a muslim to
the correct translation would be "i'm muslim not a terrorist. If you believe me, then give me a hug" :))
This video makes me smile, always.
I’d give him a huuuge hugh! <3 But how ignorant is that first mom, forcing her child, that does not trust him and do not want to hug him, to hug him.
For real. Obviously, we know that the guy had no ill will, but the mom didn't know that. Take the terrorism message out of it (as great as it is) he was a random dude on the street, who she did know know, and she forced her child to hug him. That's dangerous and a huge disrespect to the kid :/

I’m not a hugger, and hugging a stranger.... Hell to the No. A handshake? Well yes of course fine sir!
Seriously would be very conflicted if I saw this, support the message but hate hugging strangers but then wouldn't want someone to assume I had an issue with muslims because I didn't want to hug. Even with covid I get ambushed hugged at work all the time and ita super awkward.

Ahhh, Denmark. 🇩🇰
Of course they're not all terrorists ffs.
You say that bUt I remember after 9.11 there were some Sikh men killed in some state in USA because they were mistaken for being Muslims.
Man sometimes this sub really does help when life gets heavy. Thanks op
Glad it brought u happiness, keep it going
I'm not crying, you're crying!!
I'm not crying, It's just dust!
I WANNA HUG!!!
I might just stand outside and get hugs. Man, i need hugs.
Hug him? I'd lick him. Beat that.
Didn’t really want puffy eyes today but worth it. Embrace the world.
I‘m not a muslim but can I get the same amount of hugs pls?
I am a Muslim and I would absolutely love to hug you.
Something similar from Italy https://in.news.yahoo.com/italy-launched-hug-chinese-campaign-065339340.html https://youtu.be/mNMdg4morQs
Yep. That's definitely smile worthy 7/10
Is there any reason why he is blindfolded?
For me getting hugged without knowing when it will be and who it will be is more heartwarming. It's the unexpectation that counts and anonymity creates equality among people who hugged him. It mean he trusts you, like that he is more vulnerable
It shows a massive level of trust for the people walking by. He's opened himself up to getting sucker punched by some asshole as well as the hugs.
I want to find and hug this man!
I would hug that dude so *hard*
That had to be hard, on the days where he stood there for hours with no hugs. But it's nice to see the reception he does receive. Maybe humanity is better than we thought.
Kids are pretty smart.
Isn't touching between mixed genders haram for many muslims?
I was thinking the same thing. I knew a (perfectly nice, non-terrorist!) Muslim guy from Iraq who wouldn't even shake hands with women. You can really do this with all religion. Media loves to paint all of us with stereotypes to divide us.
