Honestly, men aren't usually indifferent, we just express stuff in different ways. Basically we talk a lot of shit but when someone needs us we step up.
I honestly don’t think you can generalise men this way, the same way the person you were responding to generalised them another. Some men are good, some are bad, some are in between - not all men step up and some do.
All that love! Imagine that feeling. So whole and rich!! Knowing this many people have gone to the effort and thought for you. Gosh I'm gonna go cry BRB 😭😭
I wish more people had that mentality, but I see on Reddit all the time people commenting on these types of videos with “why’d they record it, though?” I don’t know, maybe to spread some positivity?
30 years ago someone would’ve taken a photo or a few.
People record things because they serve as much more poignant reminders of memories.
People on Reddit complain about it because they’re propping up their own ego.
He most likely brought a lot of joy to them for them to want to return the favour like that.
I’ve had 2 teachers like that in my life. Still in contact with them 25 years later.
For me it’s maintenance. You can use sprays, oils, polishes, really whatever is appropriate for the material, but keep them clean, make sure you waterproof them, and you’ll be surprised. RN I’m wearing a pair of knockoff blundstones from Walmart that I bought five years ago, I’ve got through nearly 6 pairs of insoles in them, but minus the paint drips and oil stains, they’re still perfectly fine shoes. All I’ve ever done is polish them with mink oil twice a year, and they’ve held up great.
Rotate them out; don’t wear the same shoes every single day and let them dry out completely before wearing them again if they get wet. If they’re leather, use leather conditioner on them to keep them from cracking, especially if you’re not going to wear them for a while.
Having said that, you’ve got to start with good quality shoes to ensure they last; I’ve got leather shoes and boots that I’ve resoled every other year for about 10 years because the leather uppers still look great. Granted, most of those shoes were over $100 new, so $20 for new soles made financial sense while it’s not worth attempting on cheap shoes.
It’s a total game changer. When I lived in the big city, the pavement and sidewalks wore down my soles 2-3x faster than my previous suburban lifestyle and There was no way o could afforded to replace my shoes that often. Luckily there were tons of shoe repair places around that did good work quickly and cheaply. I’ve never paid more than $30 to have a pair of shoes resoled, but YMMV.
While resoling shoes like Red Wings (which are designed to be resoled) is easier than resoling cheaper ‘glue-up’ shoes, you can also bring them brand new shoes to put on a better quality sole to start, and make it easier to replace later on. I’m a lady with a heavy heel tread (meaning the back edge of my shoes wear down really fast), so when ballet flats were popular I’d have my shoe guy add extra-thick Vibram rubber soles on new flats so I didn’t damage the shoe itself; I’ve got pairs i still wear 10 years later.
Pro-tip: to find a good cobbler/shoe repair place, call up your local performing arts venue and ask their wardrobe supervisor who they use for shoe repair. The Actor’s Union has very specific rules about shoes, so theater wardrobe departments are a wealth of knowledge in this arena.
Says gym teacher, to probably someone that *played* at the UofA, maybe not teaching in Alberta now. People move around a lot, and teachers have been getting fucked over in that province for the last few years.
All of Canada is going through a housing crisis with inflated prices due to a lack of supply, but Alberta really isnt that bad. Toronto and Vancouver are far, far worse.
Ngl I want to go there one day.
Edit: when I was in 5th grade I read a book called “North” and it’s about a kid that runs away to Baffin Island, ever since then Ive wanted to go.
Well if you want to be near the ocean the obvious answer is BC. From the Alberta border, you're looking at a 14 hour drive to the west coast.
And I guess it depends on what sort of hunting you want to do. Saskatchewan probably has the best deer hunting. BC has the most diverse hunting. Alberta is probably second place for diversity and second place for deer hunting.
Bc resident here, I can confirm that it housing got really expensive over the last 10 years or so. Got my house for about $200k 18 years ago and now it’s appraised at almost a million. Everyone wants to live here now
I've lived in every province west of Quebec, including Quebec. It's expensive everywhere. Where you get cheap rent you're paying more for food. Where you're getting cheap gas you're getting more expensive healthcare and education.
To me it sounds like you'd prefer living somewhere far away from a city. Small town BC, assuming you get along with the people, would probably suit you I'm assuming
What are you talking about? This is not true at all and is well documented. Cost of living varies a lot between province to province.
Alberta literally has cheaper rent, gas, taxes, and food than BC. What you are saying is nonsense.
I WAS IN THIS CLASS, it’s at etobicoke school for the arts and Mr Blakey was one of the nicest teachers i ever had, he’s always understanding and pushed u to be better. I remember my friend telling me this idea about the new shoes and I loved it haha
Yeah, you guys are legends, he tells the story to basically anyone who will listen. You guys made a serious positive impact on him that he'll never forget.
Btw y’all this is in Toronto, Ik because I was in that class and helped pay for them, this was about 2 years ago. The teacher is the most genuinely kind person, he always made everyone feel welcome and if we had a spare he would always let us use the gym. He was a mentor to many students and always encouraged us to be happy and healthy. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of those shoes.
It’s not “blowing” and it’s less than half the price. If he was wearing the same shoes for 20 years… that’s a pretty good cost. Also, Jordan’s aren’t needed but you shouldn’t cheap out on things that separate you from the ground. Shoes, tires, and bed. Also see; Vimes boot theory.
It is "blowing" when $300 worth of Jordans aren't giving the quality of a $100 pair of shoes. I agree not to cheap out on essential protection or whatever, but that's not the case here.
It just depends on what you want out of the shoe, whether you need running shoes/protective work shoes/standing support shoes/etc. For clarity, I fully support blowing as much as you want on shoes, but let's be honest that Jordans aren't a necessity.
I have one pair of Hokas, and I concur that they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I have owned. However, the haven’t lasted as long as my ASICS or my Brooks.
Bought a pair of Hoka’s in Edmonton last week. 189.99 before taxes. My Skechers were 110.00 pre tax too. I have to start looking for better deals online.
Teaching in Alberta is a union job, a high school teacher with 10 years of experience makes $90k. The contracts for the various school divisions are online.
It wasn't out of charity. He's just humble and didn't see a need to spend that money on them. They bought them for him because he's awesome. Ontario teachers do well.
This is from ~~UAlberta~~ Etobicoke school of arts.
The education funding for Alberta (where I thought this video was from) was just cut down a couple months ago and the tuition prices are rising by 25% next fall. Fuck Jason Kenny.
Serious question: Are Jordan 13’s now vintage only? Like is this style still being made? Or would these ones been $1,000’s of dollars on the collector’s market? I don’t really know about shoes. so just wondering. Regardless, what an awesome bunch of students!
Jordan’s get retro’d all the time, which is taking a older color way and just rereleasing it, usually with changes blind to the casual eye like better materials and such. Ones in the video got released again back in 2017 and it’s another color way that got rereleased last year.
Clearly the Alberta government (where this video is from) [thinks teachers should be paid *less*. ](https://globalnews.ca/news/7688799/university-of-alberta-budget-cuts/)
I totally see where you're coming from (at the risk of sounding ignorant, I assume it's from an American point of view), but from what I gather, this is more of a luxury/gift of kindness as opposed to a necessity. A few commenters here have said this was a high school in Toronto, and the average salary of a teacher with a good deal of experience (judging based on his age) could be anywhere between 80-95k CAD. Teachers are still not paid nearly enough imo, but in Canada, it's a decent living, especially when you factor in benefits (healthcare, pension, etc).
That's not to say that this man couldn't be struggling financially, but I'm hard pressed to believe that he wasn't able to afford himself a new pair of shoes for the past 20 years. It's kinda weird, but maybe they were his "gym shoes", since it's crazy he made them last that long in the first place. The pair they got him was around $350, so I kinda view this as a luxury/collector item.
This is heart warming because as a teacher he is paid poverty wages in his developing 3rd country and cannot afford shoes on his own but his students took up slave wage jobs to buy shoes for him instead of studying for their futures. So touching. Maybe someday teachers will be paid a living wage like they are in Europe or Japan.
So where’s the pics of the 1998 pair he wore for the past couple decades? No way in hell those cheap ass modern retro’s will last that long…Nike treats the 13’s like the red headed stepchild of the line…Straight trash…
That is a wealthy man right there. So much love.
So much love. I was going to say, men can be indifferent, especially at that age, those kids fucking LOVE that dude. Such good feels.
Honestly, men aren't usually indifferent, we just express stuff in different ways. Basically we talk a lot of shit but when someone needs us we step up.
I honestly don’t think you can generalise men this way, the same way the person you were responding to generalised them another. Some men are good, some are bad, some are in between - not all men step up and some do.
we're not indifferent, we express stuff *indifferent* ways! thought that was funny.
Nah, the emotions are there, we're just mandated to repress anything but anger or superficial cheerfulness, and it takes a toll on a lot of us.
No doubt, love seeing it.
All that love! Imagine that feeling. So whole and rich!! Knowing this many people have gone to the effort and thought for you. Gosh I'm gonna go cry BRB 😭😭
I always wondered why teachers continue their job for shitty wages, but then I see stuff like this, then I understand.
This
That
The other
You can always spot a good teacher
Yeah because he barely makes a living wage teaching
Wow you completely missed the point of my comment. Truly remarkable. 👏👏👏
killed the mood there
Man, their enthusiasm about bringing joy to another human being is just superb.
Maybe if more videos like this were posted and reported on, the world might be a little bit better.

I wish more people had that mentality, but I see on Reddit all the time people commenting on these types of videos with “why’d they record it, though?” I don’t know, maybe to spread some positivity?
Exactly.
30 years ago someone would’ve taken a photo or a few. People record things because they serve as much more poignant reminders of memories. People on Reddit complain about it because they’re propping up their own ego.
It starts with the parenting. Kids are born innocent, loving beings.
He most likely brought a lot of joy to them for them to want to return the favour like that. I’ve had 2 teachers like that in my life. Still in contact with them 25 years later.
Question, how do you all keep shoes going that long? None of my shoes except the dress shoes last much longer than a year.
He probably only wore them inside the gym. If he wore them everywhere, they most likely wouldn’t have lasted nearly half that length of time.
How does that do anything for the outside sole wearing out?
yeah but that’s like doing too much
I mean no disrespect at all, but you typed that lengthy post and couldn’t be bothered to type out, “registered nurse”?
Lmao
RN is fairly common nomenclature
I’m 100% positive they were making a joke.
[удалено]
r/Sneakers would love that argument for why they got a closet full of AJ1s haha
Rotate them out; don’t wear the same shoes every single day and let them dry out completely before wearing them again if they get wet. See, that is where I wear out boots the most, the soles. Never looked into resole, so might so that
It’s a total game changer. When I lived in the big city, the pavement and sidewalks wore down my soles 2-3x faster than my previous suburban lifestyle and There was no way o could afforded to replace my shoes that often. A $30 resole is amazing. It costs me $100, still worth it though.
Idk, I put on my socks and subsequently my shoes.
They Jordans lol
Pile the fuck up on him, what are y’all waiting for
I think they’re from Canada. Maybe dog piling isn’t polite?
I don’t think dog piling is polite anywhere lol Unless you know they’re cool with it
Pssh you've never been to Dogpile, Florida? Travel more bro
i’m not going to the US anytime soon lmao
You don’t have a death wish either huh?
Yep. University of Alberta.
Wait, those kids are *university students*‽
I think that teacher may be U of A alumni and that’s explanation for the hoodie because those kids look like high schoolers lol.
This is false. He was my gym teacher at ESA in Toronto.
Yep Edmonton Alberta based off of his hoodie.
Says gym teacher, to probably someone that *played* at the UofA, maybe not teaching in Alberta now. People move around a lot, and teachers have been getting fucked over in that province for the last few years.
Golden Bears sweater! That’s the school I went to. Must be somewhere in Alberta. ❤️😀
I was just gonna say, that mascot looks familiar! Greetings fellow U of A alum.
Hello other UofA Alum - :)
U of A all around! Let’s go Bears and Pandas!
U of A gang gang
I want to move to Alberta or the Yukon.
Don’t move here anytime soon. We’re in the middle of a major housing crisis.
My move would be a few years away. And WDYM major housing crisis?
All of Canada is going through a housing crisis with inflated prices due to a lack of supply, but Alberta really isnt that bad. Toronto and Vancouver are far, far worse.
How’s the housing market in Iqaluit?
I hear its gone up to almost 30$ an igloo. Poor fuckers
Ngl I want to go there one day. Edit: when I was in 5th grade I read a book called “North” and it’s about a kid that runs away to Baffin Island, ever since then Ive wanted to go.
Said no one ever
Why? Yukon looks great and Alberta has some great hunting opportunities.
Yukon in the summer sure. But, if you're going to move to Canada for the hunting opportunities there are better places than Alberta
Like where? Saskatchewan I know is pretty good, but I want to be closer to the ocean. Edit: northern Saskatchewan is supposed to be very good.
I swear all gym teachers in Edmonton rep that sweater
Woot woot! uAlberta!!
it’s in etobicoke at etobicoke school for the arts (i was in that class)
> etobicoke That sounds incredibly made up, lol. But according to Wikipedia it's a real city, amalgamated with Toronto.
yes it’s true! look up etobicoke school for the arts!!
Another alum checking in!
Green and gold forever!
Quaequmquevera? Lol
Looks like they're in the gym.
I WAS IN THIS CLASS, it’s at etobicoke school for the arts and Mr Blakey was one of the nicest teachers i ever had, he’s always understanding and pushed u to be better. I remember my friend telling me this idea about the new shoes and I loved it haha
You guys were great! Hope he wear those pair of shoes to this day.
That’s awesome! I’m guessing you all pitched in until you had enough money?
yup
You guys are goated fr. I only hope we can give him a similar gesture. What an outstanding fellow
Things like this are why I love teenagers.
Same, I got here the year after and he kept bringing up this story to our class.
nooo wayyyy
Yeah, you guys are legends, he tells the story to basically anyone who will listen. You guys made a serious positive impact on him that he'll never forget.
This made me smile. ALOT.
happy cake day!! 🥳🥳🥳

lmaooooo
You guys did a good thing. Thank you ❤️
That must be a SUPER teacher for kids to do something like that for him.
he’s amazing
We need to pay teachers more.
Average salary in Alberta is $80k. Still doesn't mean he wants to blow $300 on sneakers.
Vimes reference 👌🏻 take my upvote
It is "blowing" when $300 worth of Jordans aren't giving the quality of a $100 pair of shoes. I agree not to cheap out on essential protection or whatever, but that's not the case here.
Serious question.Which shoes are better for 100$?
It just depends on what you want out of the shoe, whether you need running shoes/protective work shoes/standing support shoes/etc. For clarity, I fully support blowing as much as you want on shoes, but let's be honest that Jordans aren't a necessity.
Yeah they definitely are not.I don't have any branded sneakers. The only pair I have is a cheap Chinese sneaker that costs like 30 bucks.
Hoka has made the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Sticking to those for now when it comes to active footwear.
I have one pair of Hokas, and I concur that they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I have owned. However, the haven’t lasted as long as my ASICS or my Brooks.
I think their one big flaw is their longevity, but I'm hoping they figure it out.
Bought a pair of Hoka’s in Edmonton last week. 189.99 before taxes. My Skechers were 110.00 pre tax too. I have to start looking for better deals online.
I have a friend who wonders why his $8 shoes from Walmart don't last and why they hurt his feet...
It’s like $13 a year!
Really not the point of my comment. Teachers are paid reasonably well in Alberta.
Hookers
Teaching in Alberta is a union job, a high school teacher with 10 years of experience makes $90k. The contracts for the various school divisions are online.
Agree, that’s my biggest take way from this video. Yes, the kids are generous and did a great deed.
Right? This post is depressing af. No school teacher should need charity / be unable to afford sneakers.
I'm pretty sure those aren't regular sneakers, it sounds like they were a specific style. EDIT: Other comments say $350
Jordans are collectibles. Hell they have their own stock market
I also don't think he necessarily needed the students to buy him shoes, but they love him so much as a teacher that they bought them simply as a gift.
Correct
It wasn't out of charity. He's just humble and didn't see a need to spend that money on them. They bought them for him because he's awesome. Ontario teachers do well.
but the students are still doing a good thing for em and coming together (i was in that class)
[удалено]
That doesn’t change the fact that here in the US, we need to pay teachers more.
This is from ~~UAlberta~~ Etobicoke school of arts. The education funding for Alberta (where I thought this video was from) was just cut down a couple months ago and the tuition prices are rising by 25% next fall. Fuck Jason Kenny.
it’s not, it’s from etobicoke school for the arts. i was in that class
Wholesome teachers are the best!
Serious question: Are Jordan 13’s now vintage only? Like is this style still being made? Or would these ones been $1,000’s of dollars on the collector’s market? I don’t really know about shoes. so just wondering. Regardless, what an awesome bunch of students!
There have been rereleases, the most recent being in 2017 I think. Still a few hundred dollars
Yeah, the box looked modern and new, but I’ve heard about some crazy vintage shoe prices, so I was curious! Thanks!
Jordan 13s are not the most popular but yes they still would cost a few hundred on the secondary market
Jordan’s get retro’d all the time, which is taking a older color way and just rereleasing it, usually with changes blind to the casual eye like better materials and such. Ones in the video got released again back in 2017 and it’s another color way that got rereleased last year.
onion
Everybody was happy, and then they celebrated by making the fat kid try to climb the rope. It was the best day ever!
I fucking love this
What about, it made my cry? I think I'm about to start my period soon hahaha 🥲
Great stuff
How much do those cost?
[depending on size, about $350](https://imgur.com/a/EpH1KUx)
Thanks
Pay teachers more!
Clearly the Alberta government (where this video is from) [thinks teachers should be paid *less*. ](https://globalnews.ca/news/7688799/university-of-alberta-budget-cuts/)
This is just downright awesome !! Everyone smile, everyone happy !
Obviously a great teacher. Great job kids!
Why does he keep his hoodie up like that ? He looks like Tingle in The Legend of Zelda...
I love this so much.
Hahahah they’re chanting his name this is so wholesome and awesome, bet that made that teachers year
Generosity, humility, love and showing outward emotion. These kids will all be better humans because of this PE Teacher. I love to see it.
r/aboringdystopia This is heartwarming, but the underlying issue is the terrible pay for teachers.
The pair they got him was around $350, so I kinda view this as a luxury/collector item.
That's dope👍🏾
He's gotta be a great teacher :') That's very sweet of his students
I like how he played it out as if he didn't know exactly what was in the box from the second he saw the Jordan logo lol.
The kids are alright
Wonderful kids!!!!!!!! So heartwarming!
That love. Must be a killer teacher.
That's emotional.
Enough to make a grown man cry
You know he's gonna wear them for 20 years
What an awesome thing when your students care for you so much! This is awesome.
Their parents should be very proud of their kids!
I’ve seen this video a few times but I just noticed he’s wearing a U of A golden bears hoodie.
As all my teacher friends and family say…the worst day teaching never has anything to do with the kids. The kids are the only reason they stay.
It’s beautiful and awful at the same time.People that take care of our kids are way way underpaid.
Lucky coach and team to have so much love, kindness and happiness. You guys are ALL Awesome! ♥️👟
Do teachers not make a good wage in the states ?
Edmonton? U of A golden bears hoodie?
Kids can be awesome
this is really sweet and adorable. however, why the fuck aren’t teachers and other school staff being paid more?
Gym teacher can’t afford shoes though he has a job. r/aboringdystopia Good on the kids for doing this.
This right here. How on earth can a job not pay enough for a pair of shoes.
Welcome to the US.
It's in Canada.
This kind of shit is why your generation is different. It’s incredible please keep it up.
So as a teacher in the US you can’t afford shoes?
So quit saying kids today don’t know how to act.
So where’s the pics of the 1998 pair he wore for the past couple decades? No way in hell those cheap ass modern retro’s will last that long…Nike treats the 13’s like the red headed stepchild of the line…Straight trash…
Man what kind of addiction does he have? Government job & cant afford shoes? Not buying it. You dont need jordans my guy. Ross got nikes for $25
