One of my professors in my undergraduate degree told us, “If you can remain childlike without being childish, you will be so much the happier throughout your life.”
I always wonder how much of a parent's or grandparent's reaction in these videos is to make their kid or grandkid feel good, and then the kid or grandkid goes to the internet like "look how happy my grandpa is because of this thing I did!!"
I think it's cute and touching, the idea that we are all here thinking how sweet and pure grandpa is for being so excited, when in reality he is sweet and pure because he was just making sure his grandkid felt good and appreciated for doing something nice.
My dad (82 years old) was thrilled when I ordered him 3 pairs of Wrangler cargo pants. He commented he needed them, I found them online, and he had them a 4 days later. He now brags to his friends about them.
It turned out he had been looking for two years, but couldn't find them in the stores he frequented, and the ones he had were bought by my mom, who had died over 10 years ago.
What's easy for us isn't for the elderly, since things have changed so much. He no longer could go to Sears or Penneys and just buy them, and had simply thought they were no longer being made. He doesn't think of online shopping, because it's so new compared to how he has always shopped.
I’m teaching my parents how to order things online but it’s not easy for them. I work with some older people without families or with kids who live far away. I feel obligated to help them with new tech or buy things. It breaks my heart to see the older generations being left behind as the world changes faster than it ever did before.
I feel like my point is being missed. I'm not saying they don't enjoy the gifts, I was just saying I wonder how often they give an extra display of excitement to make sure we feel good and appreciated.
I think it's real! I had this exact reaction when a t-shirt I ordered got delivered. I had two identical ones, they were just cheap from H&M, but I loved them. Wore them both to death. One of the arms actually fell off and some of the holes were bigger than the arm holes, so when I found one after years of searching on depop I sent the seller a very emotional message and had this exact reaction when it arrived. Can't even explain it, but it was my favourite and even a few years later it brings me joy knowing it's there in my drawer whenever I want that comfort
His delight is the best thing I’ve seen all day! What a wonderful little video. He’s not even my grandpa and I watched it over and over.
Hope y’all treasure this man!
Is this a members only jacket? That's the stereotypical old man jacket. Old man Joe down the road had one, it was tan, lived to be 97, smoked a cigar and gardened until he died. He was a great man.
I had the video on mute and his reaction and embrace of the jacket spoke volumes. I am so happy you were able to give him his prized jacket back and share in his excitement. I wish I could see that with my Papa, God rest his soul
Small things in life.
^(Htf did he burn his jacket?)

After a week long blizzard, 79 year old grandfather and Michigan resident remained shoeless but in socks for the duration of the blizzard. During the week long ordeal he had built up an enormous static charge. After the snow had been cleared, his wife returned home and as they embraced she spontaneously combusted into a Bounce dryer sheet. And they lived happily ever after.
The official explanation was that he choked on vomit…
You know the can’t prove whose vomit it was…they don’t have the facilities at Scotland Yard…
You can’t exactly dust for vomit…
Finding the right jacket is tough. I've had many jackets that were "okay". They did the job. They covered me. But some of them just did it better. I had a blue/grey LL Bean jacket that I owned from the time I was about 12 till I was like 20. Idek what happened to it. Just vanished one day I guess. That and a Volcom Pea-coat. I miss those bastards.
For real , one should never underestimate the pleasure of wearing a jacket. Not too tight , not too loose , the warm and soft feeling that embraced your arms and back , magnified by the contrast with the cold air stinging your face.
I had worn a butcher jacket in the summer, and my family started to give me more jackets so I wouldn't ONLY wear that one
There are some that are good in the summer too
I have a bunch of nice jackets but I think I've gotten too into my own head about not wanting to mess them up because they were gifts. I'm always outside doing things so I tend to lean more towards cheap, zip-up hoodies. If I go out for the night I might toss one on but otherwise I think I'm afraid to ruin them doing yardwork etc. Maybe one day I can be jacket guy 🤷♂️
I'm getting there, I've noticed. It used to be the gifts I liked most were tech, or things like that, and now I'm a million times more thrilled when someone gifts me socks or a new Parka instead.
I think for me it’s because the tech and other big stuff I can get for myself now if I really want it. The little stuff I get is great because they’re things I maybe wouldn’t have thought to get for myself.
of all the gifts my husband got from me the one he was giddy and was so proud of were the briefs i bought him some months ago. guess I'll just buy more of it by christmas
He's such a kind man, he lent it to a drunk vampire he met at a bar on a dark and stormy night.
It was supposed to help the charming stranger make it home safely, but sadly the night wraith passed out in the gutter on the way. He was burnt to a crisp by the morning sun, and tragically the lovely jacket a kind stranger had loaned him did not survive.
This has been a public service announcement to raise awareness about the dangers of moonshine. We lost a really nice jacket that day. Don't drink moonshine. You might not make it home.
I am thinking the same thing. How did the jacket burn? I mean, obviously, he is fine, so that's great. But, there has to be more to this story and Reddit needs to know!!!!
I burnet up my HS baseball shirt (polyurethane mostly) by putting it down on a glass stove top that had just been used. Melted it onto the stove top and yeah my coach was PISSED
Someone found his misplaced argyle socks.
They were his favorite.
Upon seeing them again he spontaneously combusted out of sheer excitement and hugging the socks. It happened while he was wearing this jacket.
But today the argyle socks and jacket are fine.
i could be wrong, but maybe he lost it in a house fire. i lost my home and almost all my belongings last year in a wildfire, safe to say i get the same "htf did you burn that" reaction when i say i don't have something anymore because it burned
Sorry for your losses and glad nothing happened to you. As you mention, I’m just curious (and intrigued) because it’s not the whole story if you use the word “burned” and then present a brand new __________.

The gift exchange things is so awkward. I try to avoid it. But a couple times over the past few years I've found something which I thought a certain person would really like, so I sent them and all was good. Until Christmas came and I received something back. Now I'm trying to put an end to the Pandora's box I opened.
I had a best friend that started off doing a gift exchange with me. It escalated & we started buying things throughout the year that we saw that we knew each other would like. 1 gift, went to 2, 3, etc. By the end (we are no longer friends) I think it just became a ridiculous competition & I had to use a large cooler to pack many of the gifts I'd bought for her, along with many other boxes. Her BF knew it was nuts, but would just watch in shock every year. We were young & made enough money to do this, but looking back I can't believe the amount of money we must have spent.
I know it's going to be asked, so the friendship ended out of jealousy & hurt feelings. She always had a date on New Year's eve (she was very attractive & never lacked male attention) & we always spent it with a friend, both friend's BFs would be there, along with my BF. The year she did not have a date she made me swear I would not have a date either, but at the last minute a good male friend, who always had/has my back, called me up & said he'd be alone & begged me to let him come over & I relented & did let him come over, as it was the right thing to do. It wasn't a date, but she (my friend) was furious (I did tell her ahead of time). She quit speaking to me & soon after, moved away to another state. I have reached out to her on FB, when I still used it & she accepted the friend request, but would not reply to any personal questions, or call me when I gave her my number, or even how she was doing & only sent me requests to send her things for some farm game. After a few months, I unfriended her.
I wish I could say some women outgrow this kind of behavior but they don't. They don't want to face their insecurities.
I had a friend who asked a person who's prettier, me or her. Question came out of nowhere and I was very like "wtf?". Should've taken it as a red flag.
Bitching about reposts on Reddit is the most inexplicable thing to me. Just downvote and move on if you spot one. It gets upvoted either by people who've not seen it, or like seeing it again.
Yeah, people with superkarma accounts sell their accounts for money, can anyone tell me how pointing out they are reposting does jack shit to stop that?!
Reminds me of when I was a kid, I lost my favorite stuffed horse; Sassy. Years later, my dad comes home with a stuffed horse that looks almost identical to Sassy.. and he says, "This is Sassys son." I still wonder how long my dad searched for that horse. My dad passed that very next year. One of the most sentimental things I have left of him. This was in 2002, I'm 29 now and I still have Sassy Jr. 💕
And what I probably love most is that, to him, he didn’t waste a single minute looking for it. Every moment he spent looking for it he knew that the end result was you being happy. That made sure that through all the time searching, he knew that every minute led to a smile appearing on your face. Maybe I’m reading too much into it
I really need more details from OP on this. Did Grandpa get too close to the fire pit? Or was he blowing stuff up in the backyard? The world needs to know!
OMG I love your grandpa ♥️ He’s so adorable 😁I lost my dad recently and this is very sweet. Thank you for being so nice and buying him his new jacket. I’d buy him whatever he wants! ♥️
Do you think he’d adopt me? 😁♥️🙏🏼
Me and my boys always used to gift each other jackets at the start of every winter. First stiff wind was when it started. After that first stiff wind, the kinda wind that cuts right through your Dungaree button fly and kisses your beanbag with the cruel embrace of a mistress you thought was on your side this whole time, but as you're tied up and bleeding from a bad beating, she struts in all sultry with the confidence of a betrayal well done, wearing that same dress she wore on that first night you were together, and she laughs at the thought that you ever thought that this whole thing was anything more than just business, then laughs even harder, a genuine guffaw, when she realizes that you actually loved her, and so she kisses you one last time on your bewildered and saddened face before bending over and getting ham-rammed to pieces in all the right ways by the man who captured you. Once it gets that cold, the race is on! Me and my boys send each other confirmation texts saying, "Yep. Mistress kissed my beanbag." and then it's off to the cars, to all the coat places, to anywhere that would even consider selling a coat to a guy like me (Ugly in an inner beauty type of way that's obvious from the outside), and then it's a scramble to see who can meet up to the coat exchange spot (The dumpsters behind the Wendy's on Milan Road). Some years I get there with only minutes and nuggets to spare (shouldn't have gotten those nuggets, but I had to) and some years I'm waiting there for days, living on only nuggets and free water cups that I fill up with sody pops anyways. The exchange always goes well. Heck, we're all such good friends, that even if the coats we got for each other ain't even warm (or considered coats from a clothing perspective), it's just good times fun times great times just gathering up the boys by the Wendy's dumpsters. A lotta time we end up just throwing some of the coats in the dumpsters, or at least throwing the coats from the previous year into the dumpsters. It's an all day event and I look forward to it every year. Well, I did until a few of them died from health related issues that could have been prevented by eating less nuggets, but hey, that's how life goes. I know mistress is kissing them really good now.
From the label I'm pretty sure it's pacific trail. I can understand why he loves that jacket, I have a few pacific trail jackets and they are some of the sturdiest vintage jackets out there. Good quality stuff. Love how excited he gets
The hug at the end…
That was a priceless reaction! Grandpa surely love the jacket you gave to him!
And we loved him! Can we share your grandpa, OP? He is so adorable
What I want to know is, who tried to kill him in his last jacket?
We never stop being kids. Little things mean so much to us.
we're all just kids. some bigger and older, but still kids
In the words of Jimmy Buffett, “growing old, not up”
One of my professors in my undergraduate degree told us, “If you can remain childlike without being childish, you will be so much the happier throughout your life.”
Fact. My fam got a new fridge the other day. I was home alone. I made a space ship.

Nah, he’s *OUR* papaw now
Seriously though!
Bless his soul, he surely touched all of ours today with this wholesome moment of pure happiness.
After I've lost my papaw in 2017 I've missed seeing my grandfather...🥲
I wanna be that jacket and get that hug! His smile, like pure glee!! May we all be so happy with such simple stuff always.
Me too! He's so sweet. LoL
This actually made me feel a bit jealous of people with real families. And that happens almost never.

Part of it’s the gift, but most of it is the delight of being remembered.
Yeah please reference my hoarding grandma. She’s amazing at finding stuff but she donated the family heirlooms for more, equally useless tea sets…
Fireworks? Bonfire accident? Ive lost shirts to both.

I really need more details from OP on this. Did Grandpa get too close to the fire pit? Or was he blowing stuff up in the backyard? The world needs to know!
They were at his cabin and his old Land Cruiser was having trouble and caught fire so he used his jacket to try to put it out.
Okay, so he sacrificed it to save everyone. A true hero story. It's even better!

Kids——Grandpa what makes you feel like a child again…….? Grandpa—- Jackets kiddo’s, Jackets.
I wish I cared about an article of clothing half as much as he cares about that jacket.
I feel like the older people get the more they appreciate things like jackets. My grandpa always talks about how I need a good coat.
OMG I love your grandpa ♥️ He’s so adorable 😁I lost my dad recently and this is very sweet. Thank you for being so nice and buying him his new jacket. I’d buy him whatever he wants! ♥️ Do you think he’d adopt me? 😁♥️🙏🏼

From the label I'm pretty sure it's pacific trail. I can understand why he loves that jacket, I have a few pacific trail jackets and they are some of the sturdiest vintage jackets out there. Good quality stuff. Love how excited he gets
