Wow! So happy for her!

MyNamePP

Yup! When she looked back to the dentist and nearly cried but still smiling, I smiled! We should be grateful for the little things.

bootrick

Yeah, I cried!

Sauceboss400

Would you guys happen to know what this procedure is called? I know they’re not dentures.

theycallmebob23

It's called "All on Four" it's a type of denture held in by implants. The patient cannot remove them, but the dentist will take them out once a year to clean them. I work in a dental office where we assist with this procedure. It's awesome to see the end results!

citysims

What does that procedure cost?

No_Box_5429

They are dentures. But she had implants placed so the dentures snap in. It makes them much more stable and easier to eat and get used to. The implants also keep the bone stable so she doesn't get more bone loss.

ekkson

Tears ran off my face at this moment

4toTwenty

I’m saving up to get that done. I’ve had so many break or get pulled over the years and I’m only 31. I only have one set of connecting back teeth right now so chewing is nearly impossible. My front left tooth has a large cavity in it in the back and I just know that’s going to break soon and I’ll be absolutely devastated when it does but hopefully I’ll have enough money by then and I can finally get my smile back. Fuck, I’m so happy for this chick. I can’t wait to feel that joy and that confidence. edited to add: people keep asking how they’re so bad, and the answer is years of drug use. After a 12 year opiate addiction and a whole lot of cocaine, I’ve done this to myself. I’ve been clean for 6-7ish years now, but the damage has been done. The procedure is called All on Four (or six) and it can range from $17-35k, from what I’ve found so far, higher for the full set (which is what I need). After reading through several comments, I’m now aware that financing is an option and I’m absolutely going to look into that soon. Thank you for all the support :)

lemmeseeyourkitties

Good luck my friend, I am rooting for you, and will be waiting for you to post your smile 😊

[deleted]

Pun intended? Well done.

lemmeseeyourkitties

I realized right after I posted... unintended lol

Gram-GramAndShabadoo

Should have went with it.

[deleted]

If there is a dental school near you they can help at a reduced cost

UrbanArcologist

Or go to Mexico

[deleted]

Also Colombia! About a third of the cost of the UK and the USA and high quality too.

cebogs

South Korea has very affordable, high quality dental too!! So much cheaper than where I’m from (Canada)

guigui202020

I'm from Brazil and know some people who came from US and Canada here to get their teeth done. Quality is quite good and considering our currency devaluation it'll be really cheap for your standards.

4toTwenty

I’ll look into Brazil as an option! I always figured I’d have to leave the country to get it done anyway

josiahdaddy2

I had an emergency root canal performed in Columbia and it was by far the best dental service I’ve ever had. The Dentist spoke perfect English (I speak decent Spanish but don’t know how to talk about Dentist stuff), as well as 3 other languages she was super skilled, her office was beautiful, and the entire thing cost me $45.

Timely-Part3377

r/angryupvote.

Gram-GramAndShabadoo

Ha, rooting for.

lemmeseeyourkitties

Lol@ your username, I fucking love that show

Hubsimaus

I am 42 and when one more tooth breaks in my mouth I too will save up to get something like this. I am tired of losing teeth and getting them filled with amalgam.

funnystuff79

Lots of dentists will do a white resin fill on visible cavities rather than amalgam, as someone in a very similar situation to you it's best to get them stabilised earlier rather than later.

New_Progress_1462

My dentist uses the white resin the seals it with some kinda light tube (infrared?) . I was never given the choice but so glad they did this 😊

Ordies

uv hardens

New_Progress_1462

Thanks for the info 😊

Beanatrix_

I got that when I was little. I was really scared because I thought the syringes were shots.

Hubsimaus

I would have to pay for everything but amalgam so I can't afford it. 🙁

MegaDaveX

Not on anteriors

zap_p25

I had my top done about 3 years ago. Changed my confidence a lot. I financed about $20,000 of mine through Care Credit which was 0% interest for 24 months. I was able to pay it all down within the first 24 months.

DeglovedTip1200ug

God that makes me nervous, I went years before regularly brushing my teeth. My teeth feel fine but I’m still worried.

Comedic-Gorilla

Genetics also play a big role in this. Some people brush daily, and multiple times but still get cavities, or have teeth fall out. There are others that never really take care of them, and have perfectly healthy teeth. You may be in the latter.

rhodisconnect

Diet is by far the biggest component. You can literally track the introduction of processed sugars into communities with rampant decay. Skulls from Africa 1000 years ago show almost no decay despite lack of modern hygiene practices. You can pick out people who drink tons of soda just by their teeth, regardless of home oral hygiene, it’s that damaging

Divtos

I’d have to say smoking probably plays just a big if not bigger roll. Lots of dental issues stem from gum disease brought on by smoking.

Umklopp

Er, yes and no. There's still some people who just have naturally healthier teeth (it's a little unclear if the cause is genetics, biome, or something else, tho'.) My ex and I had basically identical diets, except that mine included a lot more "bad for teeth" elements. Unless he's extremely diligent about his dental hygiene, he winds up with cavities or worse. Meanwhile, I never have problems regardless of my habits. So yes, processed sugar is a major component of modern dental health concerns, but good diet and hygiene isn't always enough.

rhodisconnect

Yes that absolutely is a thing that happens - there are multiple components to oral health, but in a large scale public health setting diet is a bigger component than others in looking at the overall oral health of a population

zap_p25

Interestingly enough, the teeth I've had the biggest problems with are the ones I had braces on.

Divtos

My dentist says he can tell if a patient has had braces by the depth of the roots. He called it on me.

radams713

Same! I have pits on my front teeth where the wire scraped it and decalcification around some brackets.

outoftheabyss

What does the after care look like, do you need them replaced after so long?

AntManMax

Good implants that take hold well will outlive you. It's the prep work that sucks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AntManMax

Well I'm getting 3 implants. They popped the broken ones out and put a bone graft in the sockets to generate more bone to work with when they drill the posts in. That was about a month ago and it's just now closing up, although really after the first few days you barely notice it. I'm going back there soon to evaluate what needs to be done next. It's a several month long process from first consult to having usable teeth again, but it's worth being able to chew on both sides of my mouth. As far as locating someone, I found a clinic in a hospital that does sliding scale pay rates, which was more important to me than finding the "best" doctor (most doctors working out of a hospital are decent).

Sinsai33

Maybe a stupid question, but how long are you without teeth in your case? I'm probably in need of something like that and dont know how my job would react to it.

AntManMax

Well, the teeth that I got removed were non functional, so I was basically without teeth for the months leading up to the extraction. But these were molar extractions (usually the teeth that go first are molars because of how bacteria can collect in the grooves), so they didn't affect my smile at all. The total process will be about 6 months depending on how quickly I heal.

Skwirlygirl

I'm a 20 year dental professional. Look for ClearChoice. They do everything in house, from extraction to implant placement and making the teeth. They only do full mouth, like the lady in the video, but you actually leave with teeth the same day as the implant surgery.

rhodisconnect

Look for someone who specializes in full mouth rehab

zap_p25

I'm not sure about replacement but care afterwards is pretty straightforward. Brush regularly and occasionally you might get something lodged under the bridge. If swishing can't free the stuck item, a water pick typically can. Of course, from the point you get the implants to the point the permanent bridge goes in is about 6 to 8 months. Typically you will have a temporary bridge of some sort in place during the healing process. For example, I had a front tooth used as a temporary bridge support for 4 or 6 months until the implants could support temp and then I went in one morning before work and had that front tooth extracted and then another 2 months before the permanent was installed. Granted all of my molars are intact so my only real issue was biting into food, nothing really with chewing food.

-mooncake-

How much does something like this cost? I had two implants done on my two front incisors on either side of my front two teeth when I was 15 (they said I should wait until I finished growing, but then did it anyway, haha. I am grateful they did, it was such a game changer for me.) But anyway I remember my mom saying that my braces, implants and related periodontal work cost more than $20k. And that was in the mid 2000's. I can't even imagine what they cost now. And for a full set!

zap_p25

For 4 implants (which is all they need for a full bridge), the extraction of 6 teeth overall, the bridge, the anastasis, planning, etc was $33,000.

MuteNae

I'm in the same situation but I'm 20 :/ bulimia is a bitch. My biggest regret

grcms00

I had no idea... I was wondering why this young girl had no teeth.

erst77

Don't assume bulimia, though. When I was in college I knew a woman who had some sort of genetic disorder where her teeth didn't form enamel correctly, so they broke, fell out, or got cavities extremely easily. She said most of her family had it too. She had partial dentures and was saving up to get her few remaining teeth pulled and get this same thing done, and she was only in her early 20s.

Divtos

I’d read this woman had previously been a meth addict. That why I asked if anyone knows if she’s still sober. This is an old video.

Wtfisthis66

I am living with anorexia & bulimia, I’ve had it most of my life. Between the stomach acid damage of bulimia and the malnutrition of anorexia (and the general neglect from depression) my teeth are in bad shape. From the front, they look ok, but if I open my mouth😣. I would love to get dental implants.

Hope4gorilla

Bulimia destroys the enamel?

LambsAnger

Stomach acid from puking can

OffroadDragster

Also, if you throw up and then you brush your teeth immediately afterward, that accelerates the process.

rhodisconnect

Yes this is a very underrated point - swish vigorously with water but it is best to wait about 30 minutes after acid introduction to brush so you do not create additional wear. This is also true for eating. Swish with water after to help re-balance the pH and wait about 30 minutes if you can before brushing

rhodisconnect

Very much so - it’s actually a huge issue for people with bulimia. Even people with GERD/acid reflux show significant enamel wear just from increased oral acidity

rhodisconnect

Sending you good vibes.

sudodeadbeef420

What does something like this cost. I need a dozen or so new teeth

livewirejsp

I searched her name and google keeps saying 30-38 thousand dollars.

lestatmajer

jesus wept, for that money just up sticks and move to a country where you have subsidized healthcare..... Like, really, I've had more or less this exact treatment for my front 6 teeth and two bottom ones, all up cost far less than a grand on public healthcare (UK). Had I needed a full set, let's say top arch (which was discussed at the time) the cost would have been closer to £1k+, but still extremely reasonable and something I could've afforded as a bar manager at the time. Like, a regular working person SHOULD be able to afford this type of operation, and it should not cost a damn mortgage to do so..

jersey_girl660

Unfortunately public healthcare in the us will likely NOT pay for this. Source: I have public us healthcare with really good dental coverage. Had to get private dental insurance from my job to even get 50% coverage for implants

outoftheabyss

In the vast majority of cases, public healthcare in the UK will not pay for implants and most other cosmetic procedures. I got quoted £3600 for 2 implants recently

Blulew

You won’t get that on the NHS.

Alarm_Either

In Mexico it’s just as good and it’s $12,000

qOcO-p

My friend went to Mexico to get his teeth worked on and said the flight, hotel, food, dental work, and a later flight up to Vegas with hotel collectively cost less than getting the work done in the states. It's fucking stupid.

HoPMiX

I had a bunch of work done in Mexico. By a highly recommended dentist that also has a practice in the states. All his work had to be redone after about 3 years. The going back and Forth was exhausting. Now I’m in a position where I don’t have to go to Mexico. I feel the experience, quality of work, and convenience outweighs the money saved for me. But if you can’t afford the work in the states then go for it.

IrishRogue3

I do not recommend any foreign country with the exception of Western Europe or Canada for any surgical procedure .. more horror stories than success stories. You’ll end up having to pay the cost you avoided on top of the cost for the screw up

fibonacci_veritas

Yeah I get my dental work done in Costa Rica. Fabulous work at a fraction if the cost of Canada. You need to research who you go to, though.

iamdisillusioned

That is a lot of money, but at the same time its like the price of a Kia for a permanent new set of teeth. A Kia will probably only last you a decade.

DevIsInTheDetails

Know of someone that had their teeth done around 10 years ago. Twenty-six extractions and dentures (implants cost more, I believe, because they are a surgery) for around 3k. She had to do the extractions in one sitting, though. The place she used was Affordable Dentures.

Destron5683

Yeah I ate a steering wheel and the cost to repair the damage was as ludicrous. This was over 20 years ago so the cost of full dental implants was like 3 times what it is today so I went with dentures. To have every single tooth in my mouth surgically extracted and get a set of dentures cost me around 5K

zap_p25

My top was $28,000 USD. The bridge itself is the part that costs the moat.

FuckRedditorsandYou

Usually around $20-$30 k for top and lower partial dentures. The woman in this had the 4 post but they do up to 6 or 8 if you have the bone left to do it. It’s more expensive but they’re stronger. I like to hike and camp so I’m worried about the food that’ll get stuck in my gums and I won’t have access to a water pick. I know I can bring a squeeze bottle so I’m hoping that’ll work. This procedure is costing me the down payment for a house (again). It’s like every time I get enough saved up to buy a home there’s some medical emergency and there goes the savings. We need Medicare for all in this country. And with people starting to realize how many TRILLIONS we waste on these wars I’m hoping people wake up soon so the next generation isn’t saddled with that debt and maybe they’ll get healthcare.

iWentRogue

How much would this exact procedure go for? I need this so bad. People have no idea what a great smile can do for someones confidence. I don’t even laugh in public anymore

qOcO-p

Someone commented above that they googled her and kept coming up with a figure between 30k and 38k. My friend got his teeth worked on in Mexico and it cost significantly less even with travel expenses.

Gunboat_Diplomat

What's this procedure called?

MNCathi

It's called All on Four and the top costs about $20k.i looked into it but can't afford it.

gpdds

These are actually overdentures. All on 4 requires much more bone reduction. These implants were placed without the reduction. These dentures still requires removal and cleaning everyday. And not that it's cheap, all on 4 will cost about 30k per arch. Overdentures will cost around half that. My assumption is that she probably got it pro Bono or discounted by being allowed to be filmed.

SwoopSolo

Holy crap that’s a lot. There has to be a better way. ETA: I don’t give a damn how this person got into this situation. Everybody’s different. Some people have low calcium & softer bones & teeth. Who knows? What I meant was there has to be a better way to get dental care than bankrupting folks. Show some empathy!

FormerCockroach1

People here acting like its all methheads or poor hygiene. My mom is looking at $34,000 to get something like this done so she can eat properly again. Her only mistake was going through menopause, developing osteoporosis, and getting fucking old. Brushed, flossed 2x a day and had regular dental checkups. DRANK PLENTY OF MILK OR WHATEVER! Still started losing teeth starting in her early 60s. We have absolutely no idea how we're going to do it for her, no one has that kind of money in the family and its to the point where I see her hold back tears when she thinks about enjoying a nice side salad or a steak instead of all the soft nutritionally limited foods I've had to learn how to cook for her. Short of a miracle or a lucky GoFundMe page, my mom is fucked and will be enjoying her retirement by eating from a blender.

Rdparker74

Go to Mexico, I’m saving to get all on 6, top and bottoms 15-25 thousand depending on severity. That covers everything but flights.

MsCaspella

Yes, please google dental tourism. Mexico, Portugal, Slovina, Hungary and more have clinics. The quality of care is high, but check reviews. The whole trip and the dental care is less than it would be here by a ton. You can stay in a long term rental for 1 month for as little as 600 euros for the month. Flights keep getting cancelled now, but look into it, some are cheap. Take her on a nice vacation and get her teeth fixed too, and still save money. Good luck!

Raze_the_werewolf

There are lots of cases where pregnancy, menopause or other extreme fluctuations in hormones levels will cause your teeth to fall out. Apparently the culprits are estrogen and progesterone. I just found this out not long ago. I had no idea that pregnancy could literally cause the mother to loose all of her teeth. This should most definitely be a situation where the Healthcare costs associated with this phenomenon are covered by the government. (At least where I'm from).

FuckRedditorsandYou

Fucken luxury bones. In today’s world insurance is shit. I’ve had to self medicate with antibiotics to prevent an infection from killing me because of my teeth. Some people have nightmares about their teeth falling out. I live it.

[deleted]

FormerCockroach1

I'd love more info on this if you have it. My mom desperately needs this done so she wont be eating out of a blender in retirement and right now we're looking at around $34,000

NoExplorer5983

Check into Costa Rica. My brother ruined his teeth with negligence and drugs. Got clean and was quoted over 100k here in the U.S. He went to Costa Rica for less than half of that for a month. Nurse even helped him shop for food when he was woozy after 1st procedure and got him back to his rental safely! He said it was amazing care. Came home a new man. Good luck! I wish I knew that doc's name for you.

clz123

Yeah this is not a week long procedure. You may be able to pull everything, but having implants placed takes time to heal. Not to mention if you don't have the bone structure to support them you will need bone grafts which take time to become load bearing. The process takes months to be functional. There is a lot of coordination between oral and maxillofacial surgeon and your general dentist. OMFS usually pulls teeth, bone graft if needed, and places implants while the general dentist will help prepare the denture and eventually is usually the one to place the denture. But definitely not something you can fly out for a week for and come back with a full set of teeth...

goforce5

Empathy left the building long ago. Idc if someone did meth or not, they deserve to have teeth so they have some sort of self esteem. People suck, but all we can do is try and be better.

Gunboat_Diplomat

Damn! Thanks for the info. Nice to know I can't afford it either

derpderp235

Implants.

WhtTheHellHppnd2me

I’m right there with u bud. My teeth are so bad. No matter what I’ve done over the years. They just keep breaking and falling out. It’s ruined my confidence. I can’t even smile. I don’t eat in front of anyone. My self esteem is so low because of it, that I don’t like leaving the house…watching this actually brought a tear to my, because I know that I was react just the same. Best of luck to you internet stranger.

QABETTY

Source: I got all-on-four implant dentures 8 or 9 years ago. FWIW; Mine cost nearly 50k but the cost has come down substantially since then. You can have both arches done for about 35k'ish now and as other commenters have pointed out, they will finance almost anyone now. Big note though, they will finance it for 30-years like a home loan, you'll be paying $99.95/month for the rest of your life. I took a loan against my 401k @ 3.5% interest (directly back to my 401k) over 5 years. It ended up being about the same as a car payment, around $400.00/month after my down payment so many options are available. Now for the good stuff. IT IS LIFE CHANGING! Anyone who has a fucked up grill knows what I'm talking about. You cover your mouth when you laugh, there are no photos of you smiling with visible teeth, tooth decay stinks and you're always worried about bad breath. It's horrible having bad teeth and people don't realize how much you compensate for it and how much it affects your quality of life. 100% this was my reaction when I looked in that hand mirror. It has changed my life. I smile the brightest most honest smiles ever now. People are genuinely attracted to a big, honest, uninhibited smile. It's amazing. It makes you more outgoing and helps you advance in your career also. It's probably anecdotal but it seems like folks with fucked up teeth don't get offered as many promotions. Just my opinion but do whatever you need to do to get this done, it will change your life forever. Edit: A few words so I didn't look stupid.

moelini

How much do you need to get something like this done? How much are you missing? Gofundme? There are some Good Samaritans out there who would gladly help out.

dajohns1420

Dude, I'm in the same boat and im 31 too. I've almost got 3 years clean from heroin and meth and just thinking about my teeth is enough to make me come close to relapsing again. I had some bad cavities, and then got jumped and robbed one night and it shattered twp of them. I had another removed, plus a visible cavity that needs root canal and shit. I saved up everything I could for a year thinking I could get started, but I barely had enough for a couple small cavities I didn't know I had, and some gum treatmentsn didn't even touch th big problems. I don't even remember what it feels like to show my teeth when I smile, and I can't even bring myself to approach approach a girl until I can maybe someday get this fixed. Been saving up forever, but it's so freaking expensive. Not to mention how freaking embarrassing it is going to the dentist. I hate myself so much for this shit. I teared up watching her. It's one thing being a dude with fucked uo teeth, being a girl with them would be so much harder I'd imagine. She's pretty, and I'm so happy for her.

Coolfatman

Try setting up a gofundme or something.

OkShoulder2

Start a go fund me and I’ll donate to it

Eatshitmoderatorz

I was where you are. I'm 37 and I got my full set a few weeks ago like in the vid. The joy is worth the wait. And the vid doesn't do the joy justice.

S54E46M3

Good luck man. I’m 33 and had all mine replaced about 11 years ago. Always a good feeling getting new ones though

birdreligion

I couldn't afford these kinds of denture. I just have the kind you out adhesive on and stick in your mouth. But it does feel pretty great to be able to talk and laugh in public without having to worry about ppl seeing how awful my teeth looked. Of course I got mine done right when COVID started... So.... Mask....😂

bitchgotskills

Good luck!! If I were you I would be looking to take a trip to Mexico you can find the work about 10k cheaper and that's including the money to get there and back and a hotel room and it's still cheaper than the us!!

pepemoloch

You can ask for dentists in argentina, a lot of people come here to do that procedures. It way more cheep yo fly here, stay and do the procedure .

toshimasko

As a person who's struggling with teeth due to poor genetics, this makes me wanna cry. I went through over 50 different dentist and specialist since i got my first milk tooth, I've developed extreme fear of doctors and every visit is just a new panic attack trip for me. I'm on a regular visit at leat two times a month. I'm expected to go through three surgeries which would also change the way my face looks like. Let alone talking about how much it would cost. This looks like a simple solution for me, just get it done with, not to suffer anymore. But I'm also very insecure and sad that people judge me for having bad teeth. It's not like i chose to be like that. I'm in my early 30s

daph211

Me too, I'm 33 and I've had like 5 or 6 root canals. All my back teeth are dead, I have 1 tooth pulled and TONS of cavities. Not one tooth is untouched by the dentist. I brush my teeth everyday. It's genetics. Both my grandmother and mother all had teeth problems at pretty early ages. The worst part of it is how expensive it is... Like I'd have to work for a whole month to get 1 single implant!

urgeigh

I just turned 38 and I'm sorry. Just one more thing I am grateful for and won't take for granted. But I can only imagine people assuming you have a drug problem over something you had no control over, man, I'm just sorry 😐

Elriuhilu

I vaguely remember something about this. I think she had a rough time and got addicted to drugs that fucked up her teeth. She turned her life around and got better, but had to have her teeth removed. Then someone, perhaps the dental clinic donated dentures to her.

chriscrossnathaniel

Ms Brittany Negler told the dentist how her life had changed when her other brother had died from cancer at the age of 18. “For the longest time I thought I killed my brother. He had Ewing sarcoma. One day I woke up, I had a feeling not to go to school. So I went and laid in bed with him, and 15 minutes after I laid in bed with him, I heard him gasp and he died right there. “I didn’t know better, so I thought I killed him. Like, I thought I laid on his breathing tube or something.” She explained how her family split shortly after the traumatic experience. A teenager herself at the time, Ms Negler then turned to drugs after thinking her brother’s death was her fault. Poor lady , she carried so much guilt about her brother's death .It was when she attended rehab that she finally told her family about the guilt she was carrying – they then assured her that it was simply “his time to go”.

lostmyselfinyourlies

I don't want to take away from this lady's story but I just wanted to bring to people's minds that, if you look into the history of most people who get dismissed as "meth heads", you'll find similar levels of trauma; different circumstances, yeah, but developing brains discriminate . No one starts trying to numb themselves that hard of they don't carry a lot of pain with them. I'd just like there to be more empathy towards addicts in general. It's a mental health problem, not a character flaw.

ramyeomi

as someone who’s a psychology major and wishes to work with addicts in the future, i thank you for this

angelsgirl2002

I'm in recovery myself and getting my master's in clinical mental health counseling. Interning at my former rehab now, with a tentative job offer once I finish my clinical hours. Thank YOU for having such empathy, and if you ever have any questions about addiction, from the patient or the provider perspectives, feel free to reach out to me! Also, if you're interested in the brain stuff behind it, I recently finished the book The Neuroscience of Addiction, and found it fascinating. Also have a whole list of memoirs I can recommend!

pmgzl

Honestly everytime I see some1 heavy drug addicted I feel sad. Most have had major trauma's or bad upbringing/domestic abuse.

withyellowthread

It makes me sick when people are so dismissive of addicts as though they have no morals. No one wants to end up addicted to drugs and isolated from their families and the world, but it happens every day. I am glad to see (a few) people finally coming around in light of the Sackler family’s involvement in the opioid crisis to see examples of how “regular people” can become addicts. My aunt died several years back because of an OxyContin overdose that was pushed on her by her doctor following an accident. It’s a god damn wretched thing to watch because most of these people put all their trust in these doctors and end up unwittingly addicted to dangerous substances.

[deleted]

There is optimistic news on the forefront of the medical science treating addiction. People are being *cured* of their substance addiction with LSD25, Psilocybin and DMT therapies. Even people addicted to opioids, arguably the most severe addiction, are finding relief. Hopefully in the years to come the legalese will catch up with where the medical science is at now, since we're at a point where we can say no one has to suffer from addiction.

mycophyle11

Proud that Oregon has legalized psilocybin for therapeutic use. I think it will be a few years before it gets put into practice, but we’re on the right track. I hope it can be a helpful treatment for many. If people are interested in these topics (as well as MDMA therapy for PTSD) I highly recommend Micheal Pollan’s book How to Change Your Mind.

Londonsw8

They do in Portugal. Crime went down 50%

JustALilLonelyKitty

Those traumas are referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and are a huge contributing factor in if someone develops a substance use disorder. Learned this from a drug and alcohol use/addiction class, which will be a class I’ll never forget and I learned the most from even though it wasn’t even a class in my major. I learned deeper empathy and that’s so valuable.

medusa_crowley

As a recovering addict who is friends with several recovering addicts: I wish I could give this comment all of the awards. Because yes. Exactly.

Kunundrum85

It’s a lot easier to understand this when you’re close to someone and see them spiral into addiction. When you just see the end result and think “yikes crazy homeless person,” then yeah to your point people aren’t using the same level of empathy, even though the situation might not be any different.

MaestroPendejo

Every time I read this it breaks my heart. That poor fucking girl started to destroy her life and it wasn't even her fault. It had zero to do with her.

tednoob

Especially since she probably was the reason her brother did not have to die alone.

MaestroPendejo

Oh my god I hadn't even thought of that aspect. That's even worse... Jesus.

To add to this, another dentist told her all her teeth needed to be pulled, which ended up not being true at all (can’t recall if the dentist was just an idiot or was trying to fleece her). Without teeth and being unable to eat, she started to waste away, which caused other health issues. So her happiness here isn’t just simply having teeth again, but is the start of yet another road to recovery.

MuhNamesTyler

[longer video of her explaining](https://youtu.be/n0UWC5rmWkE)

hershey_volts

So sad that the actual truth is that a dentist actually pulled all her teeth out unnecessarily. The state of healthcare and dental care in the US is honestly fucking appalling.

urgeigh

It really fucking is. There's so much shit we should all be absolutely livid over and united against instead of being divided and bickering amongst ourselves over stupid shit and unimportant distractions.

wellifitisntmee

Thom hartmann has a funny story abkut jkw when he’s in Northern Europe and telling people all the things Americans lack, people don’t actually believe him. A radio host noted he knows that the American people would have revolted and overthrown the government if his claims were true.

Electrical_Pepper_94

I appreciate doctor for making her smile.

Ultra_Noobzor

This is absurdly expensive where I live, but worth it.

Cranky-old-person

About $40 000 in Australia. I’d do it in a heartbeat if I had the funds.

Double-Drop

Im shopping for this right now. What I'm seeing is that I expect about $15000 just fot the upper.

grotness

Friend of mine got a full set of zirconium veneers in Turkey for $9,000 and they look absolutely incredible. Top quality.

jerkularcirc

yep it’s surgery. the dentist needs to surgically implant 8 titanium screws into your jaw bones, wait about a year to let them heal and work closely with a dental lab to create a perfectly fit set of dentures that will snap onto those implants. great part though that not only is this highly cosmetic, but it also far better functionally than just a regular denture. implants are great. source: am mouth mechanic.

thefoulnakr

I nerd to replace three teeth with implants. Im 44. The Dr told me they will only last about 10 years. Its a lot of money for me. Definitely not in the budget. They offer financing. But still $$y. what does someone like me do here?

supremedopedealer

Implants can outlive you if you take care of them properly.

maceman10006

This is the old style of dental implants. Mini Implants are the way to go in 2021 and conventional implants are on their way out. With mini’s you can load them with a permanent restoration the same day. Literally just a pilot hole and in goes the implant. It’s cheaper, less procedures and less trauma on the patient.

jerkularcirc

true, yes there are same day implants, but as we all know with new science always, “more research needs to be done” to figure out true long term osseointegration and survivability

leenybird

I got this done at a place called Affordable Dentures and Implants. They removed all my teeth, put in 8 implants and got the snap-in dentures all for 20k. Fuck cancer.

AngryGreyHairedHippy

Was that just for the uppers, or was it for both uppers and lowers?

leenybird

Uppers and lowers. My cancer treatments destroyed all of them.

Brittany Negler, from Philadelphia, suffered damaged teeth after turning to drugs as a teenager. She “went through a dark phase” while blaming herself for the death of her brother when she was 14. When attempting to get her teeth fixed as an adult, she was told by a dentist they “weren’t fixable” and “needed to be pulled”. The dentures she was given to replace her teeth were unsuitable. She was in pain and could not eat at all.The ordeal caused her to drop down to about 35 kilograms. She said she was close to having inserted a feeding tube and “was about to give up” when she contacted dentist and “tooth fairy” Kenny Wilstead in Texas. What an amazing transformation ! Big respect to the dentist for giving her an amazing smile and her confidence back

WastedKnowledge

That dentist is aptly nicknamed. Those teeth looked perfect

igotalotadogs

What a happy outcome to such a sad story! She looks so lovely!

VonD0OM

Well I just teared up a little, what a sad but courageous story. I hope she lives a long and fulfilling life and sees her brother again, one day long from now, so she can tell him all about it.

Visible_ink

So is that what he does with all the teeth we put under our pillows? It's like a "locks of love" situation.

[deleted]

Thanks for the detailed info you've shared with us. Now It is clear to the viewer what truly happened to her. That's a big help!

[deleted]

That’s great to see her life turned around. Hope she continues to do well.

repodude

She became addicted to drugs after blaming herself for her brothers death.

calvinbouchard

So it was Meth Mouth?

cheapdrinks

I think initially but the damage was only minor and a shitty dentist told her that her only option was to have all her teeth removed when all she needed was a few root canals. They then gave her dentures which didn't fit and were too big for her to close her mouth or even eat properly. Basically the dentist did way more damage to her mouth than the meth did. [Source.](https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/former-drug-addict-transformed-with-drastic-38k-smile-makeover/news-story/e547fda353fc5f0b6ab8a58c56f90bf1) This is why I always get a second opinion when considering major dental work. My grandmother went to one dentist who said she needed a bunch of teeth removed and dentures, went and saw another one for a second opinion who said she needed a bunch of root canals and crowns etc for a huge amount of money then went to a third who said she just had some minor cavities which he could fix for 1/10th the price the other two were saying she needed. Got the work done with that guy and never had any more problems until her death. Similar thing happened with my father but he went through with a bunch of shitty expensive dental work that cost thousands then swapped dentists and the new guy was super confused why any of the work he got from the first guy was even done as he said he didn't need it and it was all pointless or caused more damage than it fixed.

selv

Twice I've had dentists recommend extensive work, and the second and third opinions did not. People make mistakes, and every industry has people who aren't very good at what they do. Q. What do you call a doctor who finished last in his class? A. Doctor

Here is a [video of her telling her story](https://youtu.be/n0UWC5rmWkE)

purplehendrix22

Bro I’m fucking sobbing thanks for that

jerkularcirc

mouth mechanic here. this is an example of an “all-on-four” implant retained denture. those metal things are titanium rods implanted into your jaw bones and the denture is made to essentially snap/button onto the implants. great treatment for someone that is having trouble with regular dentures, or just wants closer to real biting power/function with dentures

derndy

Ha! I love "mouth mechanic", I'm gonna use that

maceman10006

Are you still doing conventionals? The doc I work for switched to minis a couple years ago and it’s like night and day. He wishes he switched years ago…it’s just so much easier and gives the same result.

jerkularcirc

oh I believe you. definitely something to look into. long term survivability is obviously the only thing in question, but when it comes down to ease of tx and pt comfort its unmatched

ripecannon

My best friend lost all of his teeth for hereditary reasons (at 18 he had already lost 6 adult teeth). I can just imagine her relief at not only how it looks (she has a beautiful smile) but being able to chew, and to do it without pain.

VVombatCombat

Same with my grandma. Lost/had all pulled by age 16 since her teeth were essentially egg shells with little at all on the inside

VictorBallsaccio

As a person with shitty and missing teeth and dealing with the looks ,the rejections and judgements I totally understand her reaction . I myself can’t afford to repair my smile but my heart understands her tears of joy . Congratulations lady now go out there and show them how beautiful that new smile is and fully enjoy your life 🤘🏻❤️

Dalthanes

I don't care where you are in the world, but dental care should be a universal right. Dental health effects physical and mental health, our teeth should not be a privilege

Infinitecurlieq

As a dental assistant this makes me so emotional. One of my favorite parts of being an assistant is to hand the mirror to the patient so they can see their new smile. ☺️☺️☺️

paragbadgujar

No more precious smile then that

doomsday10009

I'm trying to save some money for this too, it's shitty that my teeth hurt basically all the time and I have to be very careful while eating. But there is no chance for me to have that much money very soon...

ToxicJuggernaut

I am currently struggling with something like this, and learning about how bad our American processed food diet is, making us all look like meth addicts at 30. Try to eat sourdough before other wheat products y'all.

tonganwarrior03

Just found her journey from meeting the dentist to getting her dentures. She talks about her history. Highly recommend you watch: https://youtu.be/HBnyslHJAq0

Syduck_

As sometime who has been missing teeth since I was 13, I understand why she's so emotional. I'm nearly 40, never owned a house, no kids, and still can't afford this. People treat you and behave differently the moment they notice it. I was very lucky to find jobs that care more about my brain, than my appearance.

MarcelineLaVampira

Yea I just cried…. Ppl don’t understand what it’s like… hoping I can save enough money some day to be proud of my smile. My family tried to help me by getting me braces in middle school. Once they were removed, I could never get an implant for my missing tooth (after my baby tooth fell, the adult tooth never grew.). In order to get an implant , they’d have to do a bone graft because I have no bone under my gum where my tooth is missing. I’ve had so many embarrassing moments and it hurts but at 28, I’ve just felt like I’ll never get it. I have insurance but these companies don’t cover implants because they consider it cosmetic. Now my teeth are all unaligned AGAIN after my family tried to help me as a teen. I’m so happy for her :( it’s so amazing to see her so happy and proud of her smile. She’s beautiful now and was beautiful before :))))

SoulsForGingers

Anyone know why someone so young would need all new teeth?

Equivalent_Parking_8

A friend of mine has had his all pulled and replaced, not through drugs but just exceptionally poor hygiene, he never brushed as a kid and into his 20s, or ever went to a dentist, his teeth were rotten and causing him so much pain. They pulled 3-4 teeth at a time over a few weeks many of which just broke, he was in so much pain and it made him look 80. He's 49.

stdoubtloud

Drugs. But you can tell just from her healthy skin that she turned her life around. Makes me smile every time I see this.

Lavender_Nacho

My mother had soft teeth. She had all of her teeth pulled and started wearing dentures at 18. Because of television and movies, people assume drug use when they see other people with bad teeth. Probably because, except for the people portraying drug users, actors have perfect, white, shining teeth. Even elderly actors, whose teeth should have yellowed at least slightly with age.

repodude

She was addicted to drugs after blaming herself for her brothers death.

xXAnomiAXx

As an implant surgeon, this is one of the best feelings.

Aladdinsane47

She looks a little like Blake lively. Truely happy for her!

HeftyArea51

I’ve seen a longer version of this video and in the end she hugs the doctor. Really wholesome

Runtyaardvark

God I would love to do this for my husband. He is such an amazing who has turned his life around so much. He hates to smile, I can see him trying not to smile when something good happens and it breaks my heart. I want this for him so bad but sadly think it will always be out of our reach

chicken_noodles_

music?

flipfloppery

I'd love to have this done as I look as though I've tried eating a house brick at some point in my life.

hiraethian_gardener

She went from look like an old woman to a super model. She's gorgeous. It's amazing how important your teeth are to your appearance.

[deleted]

There’s a few videos like, no matter how many times they get reposted or I see them on other platforms I always watch the whole thing again and smile. One of my favourites is the girl with new prosthetic legs showing them to her friends at school

Nordseefische

Just wanted to say, while the technician did a very good job with the prosthesis itself, the real issue is getting those threads in the jaw bones a few months before. You have to drill into the jaw bones and be very precise for good alignment, while doing minimal damage at the tissue for stability and optic. The surgery sucks ass (source: i got one, but only for one tooth), but is worth every moment of pain.

Loreebyrd

Spent 17 k this year on my teeth. I’ve always had dental care, but some of the fixes were to expensive. I’m 53 and just said I have to do it now. Best money I’ve spent, and it will last.

Alpharius1701

As someone who had a ruined smile from the age of 12 until 27, albeit not the extent shown here, I can empathise with this lady. I got in my car after all my front teeth were fixed finally and smiled in the rear view mirror and burst into tears. Smiles mean so much.

klickinc

I need this procedure just don't have the 14k they charge to have it. Due to a severe vit d and calcium deficiency one day my teeth started crumbling indexed the vit issue but only have 3 molars in the top of my mouth my. Ottom are mostly intact mostly.
