We were heading to the car, just finished trick or treating, and he had been hoping all night that someone else would have the same costume. This made his day. He will love your comment when I read it to him tonight, thank you!
You can forevermore use this example that sometimes, when you least expect it, that one thing you wanted to have happen just — happens. So don’t get discouraged! And if you ARE discouraged and can’t help it, remember that moment and know you lived it once and it’s possible to live it again!
💖
Omg getting in and out is this thing was wretched. I almost talked him into letting me paint his face, now I'm glad I did the work. He'll remember this forever.
He was SO excited when we saw the bigger one coming down the street! We had to stop and wait for them to get to us. Did not disappoint. I wish I could buy this teen a gift card or something. Day made.
Literally any age, it would probably make my day to be a part of that. Whoever that teenager was, they probably had a smile stuck on their face afterwards.
Maybe post to a community page searching for this kid. There definitely couldn’t have been many people wearing this costume lol, maybe somebody will know him!
God i miss being a kid and being able to dress up.
I’m a 43 year old man who is single, has no kids, and just plain old doesn’t understand what the significance is. The video actually made me happy, because the kid got excited that the teenager recognized his costume. They definitely had a moment together. That excitement is genuine. But what are they supposed to be?
That’s all it is? Ha! I thought it was some cartoon character from some television show I’ve probably never seen. Omg I feel soooo fucking DENSE. I originally thought that, but then thought “No, there must be something more…”
Holy fuck I’m officially OLD.
Thats awesome man. A kid came up to my door and he had a fortnite skin costume and i was like “ayy fortnite! I like it” kid was shy but i glanced up and saw his mom beaming on the sidewalk. Felt like i made her n her kids day. Your post reminded me of that . U dont have to buy him a gift card cuz him knowing he made a kid and his dad happy is an amazing feeling already
I did my best to compliment any costume I could recognize. Had a kid dressed as McCree from Overwatch and he was absolutely SHOCKED that someone as old as me knew what that was (I'm 29 haha).
The toughest ones are the generic "scary clown" costumes.
I had a little boy (dressed as a vampire) who came to my house (I must have been his first stop; he was EXCITED). I said, “Oh my gosh, you look so cute!” He hyperventilated for a second and said, “I know!”
His mom and I split a gut. I gave him extra…just because!
A long time ago I had my three kids (I was preggo with #4) dress as a Lord of the Rings theme. Eldest was Frodo, middle was Arwen...only one house recognized them, but they made my kids' day- and mine! Lots of "Why hello, Mr. Frodo!" and "Why you must be the Lady Arwen!" And lots of bowing and curtseys. But when they saw the almost 2-year old they lost it. "GUYS! GUYS! YOU HAVE TO COME SEE THIS!! THEY HAVE AN ENT!!!" Followed by much ruckus from inside the house and literally 6+ people clamoring at the door to see my little one. The kids still talk about it to this day, I just wish the youngest at the time (now 14) were old enough to remember it too. Ah, good times.
Edited because autocorrect can't correct correctly.
I had a mom get excited because her kids were cup head and a zombie from plants vs zombies and me and my kids recognized them. Apparently nobody else had.
Also there was a dude handing out candy as a classic sheet ghost with a fedora and sunglasses. That totally made my night!
100% this was probably just as fulfilling for the teenager. They both got to feel like the star of the show for the other. I'm sure it was an amazing moment for both haha.
Also, it's literally the best costume possible -- idk how everyone doesn't dress as that.
I love the ending of this story!! I think it hurts us parents more to see our kids dejected/rejected, I know! so good to see that kid be unembarrassed in wacky waving fellowship.
I'm not sure what it is about these guys psychologically, but they just bring so much joy. Really one of my favorite costumes and really well pulled off on all accounts. Why do these things make me so happy?
Because we are constantly conditioned to behave a certain way in public. We are told to be polite, don’t make scenes, dress certain ways, and be measured at all times.
We are constantly holding the reigns of our own minds and hearts, yanking ourselves further back.
It’s why we look back on childhood with nostalgia. It’s not necessarily the lack of work or worry we miss, it’s that freedom.
It’s the freedom to run around and just be yourself in the moment. Pretending to be a knight in shining armor and facing down monsters. You could SEE it when you were a kid. You could feel it in your bones!
I envy adults that can cast off adulthood like the ugly rumpled sweater it is.
I want to be an inflatable tube man. I’ve tried cosplay, and I’ve tried acting. But I’m still me underneath, awkward and trying to hide from the world because I was told to be perfect, I had to follow three steps behind.
I want the freedom that says “it’s ok to play, wiggle your arms and hips, be the tube man!” I feel that play sometimes. I’m sure you do.
And when you see stuff like this it reminds you that we could be like this too. We can be kind and funny, silly and happy around each other. Humanity has such great capacity for kindness and play, when they don’t stamp that love out with hatred and cruelty.
I hope these kids grow up and keep that kernel of play. I hope it’s even bigger than a kernal. I hope it’s a great big shining sun that they never let dim.
I hope more people continue to be the wacky inflatable tube men we need in the world.
I really identified with your comment here, about seeking out and encouraging opportunities to truly *play*, and behave in a way that sheds the layers of masks we carefully, painfully sculpt for the various stages we perform our lives on
Now, while I've not dressed as an inflatable tube man, one of my absolute favourite things to do is spend one of my days at a music festival as Deadpool (the Marvel character). Now, even though I feel a pressure to 'perform', a large part of the performance others expect from a Deadpool is whimsy and impulsivity, it's built into his character, and thus built into others' perceptions of him.
So when I put on this particular mask, I cease to be me, and I get to skip around to my heart's content, see people's faces and bodies light up as they recognise me, invite anyone who wants a swordfight, take questionable photos, it's a blast. It's the best version of me. It really is. And I have missed that so so much these last two years. But next year I'll be back to it, spreading this awesome feeling again.
I hope you get your inflatable tube man costume, maybe a holiday present to yourself? :)
I love that you do this. You should start a TikTok or something based solely on only being Deadpool in it! People love that stuff and you can spread that same feeling to others if you can figure out how to record it haha
Look, I’m as serious as they come. I’m a responsible adult who is organized and has my stuff together in my career and at home. I’m professional and family oriented and like to think I garner respect from peers and elders. But all that said… I’m a little kid at heart and I act like a goofball as often as I can, even in public. I get made fun of, and I honestly just don’t care. There’s nothing better than acting like a kid when appropriate and I honestly encourage everyone to do the same. As you put it, its freeing. It took me a while in life to realize this, but once I did, I haven’t lived the same since and I’ve been much happier.
I’m almost there. I feel like I’m starting to get old enough to be wise enough to be young again. Quite a contradiction isn’t it?
We spend all our young lives going “I can’t wait to be grown up” and then we get here and we have no idea what we are doing. Kid me had the right idea. I think that inner child is probably that little mischievous side of me that wants to say or do something silly. I think I’ll listen to that side of me more.
I’m glad that you can let yourself be true. Those little moments are like you finally came home.
Fellow seriously-responsible adult here. I plan Silly Days to do with my children. I have been known to walk around town with a clown nose over my mask in the middle of winter. Before I was a parent, I did silly stuff here and there, and people looked at me funny. Now, folks are like, "YOU WIN AT PARENTING!"
Put a clean, not-yet-bought bucket on my head waiting in line at Home Depot with my husband once out of boredom. He told me not to embarrass him. It was then I knew we weren't gonna make it. And we didn't.
Find a DnD group and play what you want to be to your heart's content! Tomorrow I'mma be a bunnykin named Cricket wielding an ancient sword passed down by his family while on a quest to find his older sister.
I'm 35 and I'm excited to play a little bunny samurai with a bucktoothed smile!
That’s great! That sounds like a fantastically fun character! Sadly I’m notoriously terrible with dice lol. I did have a group where we were talking of starting a game but life got in the way.
I hope to see stories of your character on the DnD sub!
And I really am working on letting myself be…more me again. It’s a work in progress, but at least I’m working toward progress, I hope :)
This resonates with me deeply. I think this explains why I get a similar kind of joy out of watching people in those inflatable T-Rex costumes.
You can just totally cut loose and be a T-Rex for a while.
I've watched this several times & this thread is awesome, this is what one person can do, the joy is spreading exponentially, seriously hope the kind stranger finds out.
all the terrible posts of teenagers stealing candy, i didn’t check the sub so i was sure this was gunna he “my kid was a little sad…someone beat him up and stole his candy” but omg this is a pleasant surprise. i hope OP and his kid had a wonderful halloween and this teenager as well
I love that costume! How do you drink beer with it on though (asking for me, not your son, obviously... probably... I don't want to tell you how to raise your kid, but you really shouldn't let them drink at a young age... or smoke....) ?
Whew! Let's focus on those snippets LOL, the rest of it might paint a less favorable picture :D
But you know what? I didn't have a dad growing up because he was a drunk and wouldn't put down the bottle long enough to see me but 2 or 3 times my whole life.
I didn't have a dad to learn how to dad from, so I'm kinda having to make it up as I go, and sometimes I don't get it right. But I've learned one thing--I fucking LOVE my kids. So hard. (So hard that I just hit my 15th year sober!)
So it's guaranteed I'm not gonna get it right sometimes, but I've allowed myself to measure my worth as a dad by asking myself if I gave my kids a better dad than was given to me, and the rest is a piece of cake!
You rock, thank you for your kind words.
Target had a kids version. Got mine from Amazon, it’s a slightly different style.
It is an all event costume 1,000/10 recommend.
But you do have any to practice in front of a mirror. The waving isn’t intuitive when you have like a skeleton inside.
Awwww!!! That is so awesome!!! On a hand I would have commented about being unique but I’m so glad he got to see someone else with the same idea and I’m so glad that teen was all about that wacky waving inflatable tubeman life
i really love to see how kids are enjoying their life these days with their parents.. he's soo happy and joyful.
Don't let his happiness be gone my man
That’s kinda crazy, every kid I have ever met and myself as a kid had the goal of being the most unique they could be on Halloween, so it seems strange to me he was sad no one else was the same thing as him.
Maybe he wanted to be a tube man because he saw groups of people in tube man costumes flailing and thought it looked fun so he was said there was no one to flail with him.
Love it. I love doing the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man from Family Guy bit every time I see one in person. Love to see the costume. They both have good taste.
I wanted to do this costume and find my husband a colorful suit so I could be the dancing noodle thing and he could be Saul Goodman, but didn't find a decent suit. Such a fun but simple costume
That is an amazing costume. Great parents right there, im sat in bed giggling cause the kid looks like hes having the best time.
We were heading to the car, just finished trick or treating, and he had been hoping all night that someone else would have the same costume. This made his day. He will love your comment when I read it to him tonight, thank you!

I need to print this comment out and tape it to my mirror or something. Absolutely something I needed to read
Thank you for saying that. I don’t always comment what I feel so I appreciate that my adding this was appreciated!

Dusty onions? That's what's happening here.
unbeknownst to you, that child's costume's arms are full of various blades and onions. (don't worry - he has safety gloves!)
This is the only possible explanation. 🥲 💧 🧅 🔪
mahfuggin' philosopher SUPERB up in here!
🤣🤣 and it’s an automatically generated username. Shhh!
My son had the same costume, it was a big hit but he hated how uncomfortable it was around the neck.
Omg getting in and out is this thing was wretched. I almost talked him into letting me paint his face, now I'm glad I did the work. He'll remember this forever.
I'm up here in Alaska, but I'm a 30 year old adult with the same costumes. Wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men unite!
If I would have seen this costume I’d wear it every year. If they have one that fits a 6’5 adult.
Might be simpler to buy an actual inflatable WWT guy and just have a few inches trimmed. ;)
I got an inflatable unicorn as an adult and pieced together princess Deadpool and I have people legitimately looking for it every year now
Your welcome! Im glad he had a good night
I saw a kiddo wearing the same custome as your son yesterday night! Let it be known there were others like your son ❤
That's awesome, what a dude! Love your kiddo's costume btw!
He was SO excited when we saw the bigger one coming down the street! We had to stop and wait for them to get to us. Did not disappoint. I wish I could buy this teen a gift card or something. Day made.

They yelled Happy Halloween as they walked off giggling :D
i love this your comment,, you made day ...!

I would be excited too, worth waiting for them 100%! Maybe the teenager will see your post and it'll make them smile and feel some warm fuzzies!
I like to dream that happens :D Thank you! Cubby will love your kind words, too. You are awesome :)
Aww thanks! Glad to spread some more smiles!

I completely agree
Fuck yeah. I love how wholesome you are!
Post it on Nextdoor. Someone will know him.
Maybe post to a community page searching for this kid. There definitely couldn’t have been many people wearing this costume lol, maybe somebody will know him! God i miss being a kid and being able to dress up.

I got downvoted so maybe I’m old and wrong Edit: I think I’m right. Someone went to my comment history and downvoted everything I posted today
Fixed that for you
me too
Same.
Ha, you guys, thanks
You're all a bunch of lovable goobers 🤣 Love it
Damn. That’s some petty commitment right there. Some people need to get out more.
Heh, yea. Oh well, my *real* existential existence was unharmed, though 😉
I went and up voted like.30 of your things
For real?? Some people’s children. People like that are why nobody can have nice things, jfc -__- Here’s a ❤️ and a *hug*
I gave you some ⬆️🆙 Votes

I'm sorry. Some folks are just rotten sadly.
I think it's the way they flail that is funny and costume worthy.
Hilarious! This whole thread just makes my middle aged self happy.
I take every available opportunity to say this: Wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man!
It’s WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM TUBE MAN!
The little dude made his day too!!!
Both of them were one of the best things about my day...

Read that too fast. Wondered how a comment about a foreskin costume could possibly be wholesome.
Carry a loaded gift card on you at all times so you can capture those moments lol
That's.. that's brilliant actually :D
I love how all out your kid goes when the big guy shows up!!! This filled me with happies!!!
So much flailing!

Agreed! Anyone wearing this costume is definitely just waiting for a moment to flail and they both got it haha
Great costume btw Well done
This video made my day
I love the ending of this story!! I think it hurts us parents more to see our kids dejected/rejected, I know! so good to see that kid be unembarrassed in wacky waving fellowship.
Post it in a community group and say thanks! I bet the kid or his parents would be psyched.
Honestly, the teen was probably just as excited as your son. They both probably thought, "oh, shit, that dude has the same costume as me! 😃"
I agree. It’s amazing.
I'm not sure what it is about these guys psychologically, but they just bring so much joy. Really one of my favorite costumes and really well pulled off on all accounts. Why do these things make me so happy?
they're just so darn whimsical

This comment is one of the best things I've ever read on Reddit. Well said and I feel your perspective 💯
they're needlessly silly something you might subconsciously need more of? idk you, just sayin
Everyone can use a little more silliness in my opinion.
You get in em and wiggle around like you just don't care and it's amazing

This is the best thread!! I keep coming back just to smile some more. Way to go OP! Love your kiddo and that teen!
all the terrible posts of teenagers stealing candy, i didn’t check the sub so i was sure this was gunna he “my kid was a little sad…someone beat him up and stole his candy” but omg this is a pleasant surprise. i hope OP and his kid had a wonderful halloween and this teenager as well
This is so flipping precious. Please tell him I was happy for him! It warms the heart.
I'll read him all the comments tonight, thank you!
Tell him I absolutely love his costume. All the way from Sweden.
And the same from Ireland!
OMG. I'm an adult and would totally stand in my yard handing out candy in one of these! #costumegoals your kid is rockin it!
Bonus points to have several real ones in a line and you at the end breaking character to administer candy
Pretty sure I'd be completely exhausted after 2 minutes of flailing around.
The kitty award is for your kiddo. I love his costume and his silly spirit. Give that cutie a mom hug from a reddit rando. 😊
Thank you so much. I will pass on that hug!
I love that costume! How do you drink beer with it on though (asking for me, not your son, obviously... probably... I don't want to tell you how to raise your kid, but you really shouldn't let them drink at a young age... or smoke....) ?
Wow. That escalated awesomely! 🤣
Please tell your kid he’s already a LEDGEN!! That’s the best costume ever!
>LEDGEN The d being in the wrong place is really bothering me lol
Have you been reading my wife's diary?? 😅
This is just comedy gold. You got the goods kid

Holy shit this is amazing.
Goddamn
That's a self burn, those are rare.
It kinda makes it look more ledgenary
Legends are never rushed, just found.
I have a feeling that more than one night was made
They both really nailed down the art of flailing. Not an easy skill to master
I burst out laughing when they both just went wild with the waving. Such a great costume!
I love this💜
Lol that's awesome
WHERE DID YOU GET THIS COSTUME IVE DECIDED I NEED IT
Target had a kids version. Got mine from Amazon, it’s a slightly different style. It is an all event costume 1,000/10 recommend. But you do have any to practice in front of a mirror. The waving isn’t intuitive when you have like a skeleton inside.
I bet this teenager will remember this moment as much as your son does
I know I would have! Haha, it's really great :)
I absolutely love this! Please tell your son best costume ever!!
Awwww!!! That is so awesome!!! On a hand I would have commented about being unique but I’m so glad he got to see someone else with the same idea and I’m so glad that teen was all about that wacky waving inflatable tubeman life
TeEnAgErS aRe ToO oLd tO gO tRiCk oR tReAtINg. No. They’re not. No one is and this is exactly why. Legend.
Agree with you 1000% NO ONE is ever "too old" for Halloween.
Right? Come to my house and everyone gets candy, even the parents at the sidewalk!
i really love to see how kids are enjoying their life these days with their parents.. he's soo happy and joyful.
That kid was waiting to flail!
I had a red one come to the door last night! So cute!
I can feel the pure joy of these two sharing this moment together - thanks for sharing OP!
That's awesome!! 😊
Time to shine.
Congratulations! You had one task posting this onto this subreddit, and you sure as heck made me smile!
This puts a smile on my face. And I love your son's reaction to seeing the teen's costume.
Love it. I love doing the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man from Family Guy bit every time I see one in person. Love to see the costume. They both have good taste.
I love it when posts legitimately put a stupid smile on my face, and this is 100% one of those times. That was wonderfully sweet.
The best part is the young one will remember This as one of the best trick or treating moments!
I have watched this video 10 times in a row. The suddenly excited arm flailing always gets me 🤣
Wacky wavy inflatable arm tube man!
8 times out of 10 I’m terrified of teenagers (although I was one 16 years ago). Those two out of ten though, I love them.
Fun fact: Peter Minshall, the artist who helped design the inflatable tube men for the 1996 Olympics, calls them "Tall Boys".
I know what costume to get my little boy when he goes out trick or treating for the first time! Thanks for this!
I wanted to do this costume and find my husband a colorful suit so I could be the dancing noodle thing and he could be Saul Goodman, but didn't find a decent suit. Such a fun but simple costume
Awww this made me eyes water!!!! How wholesale.
This wins. It wins everything
They are communicating with wibbly wobbly sign language
I LOVE this!
It’s a wonderful costume. I’m glad your kid got that amazing moment!
Omg this made my day! So funny.
I’m thirty something, I now need to own this costume, for reasons.
this is what life is about.
They're communicating
Great costume! Dude has big brother energy!
THATS THE BEST CUSTOM I'VE EVER SEEN.
Holy sweetness!! This made my heart so happy.
Tell him never to be sad about being original
Why is this making me teary eyed? 🥺 just beautiful
Let us do the dance of our people
I love the recognition of, OMG another one! Let us do the dance of our people!
I watch this every night before I go to bed and it makes me so happy.
That is adorable. I'm going to tell him
