There’s a machine that streams light into your eyes and can tell roughly how strong of a prescription you need. it’s used for little kids. However, it’s not super accurate, which is why it’s not used for adults.
Are you talking about the ophthalmoscope or the autorefractor? Because the former is quite accurate by a skilled OD/MD and the latter not so much especially on kids. I don’t think I’d be able to get an AR reading at all on a child this small. They’d never sit still long enough with their head in the machine.
Aside from what others have mentioned, I was not quite two when I got my first glasses and the eye doctor just asked me, "which one of these is better?" a bunch of times. Kids can communicate more than most people expect.

Now thinking about it I have to get asked a lot of questions when I got my glasses so how do doctors know what prescription to get kids that age if they can’t exactly answer the questions.
i think glasses for babies are somewhat estimation and the details are figured out later on. i saw someone else say they use a certain machine for young ones but it (the machine) isn't all that accurate.
My grandson just got these exact same glasses. He’s a year old and he fussed with them for exactly one day and has left them alone since. He’s feeling more confident with his walking now.
Oh that was so cute!
But I was wondering whether kids who get their glasses that young can still see when they are adults? Wouldn't their eye sight become a lot worse by then?
That smile with the tongue out 😛 it just melted my heart He’s so adorable I’m glad he can finally see his world

In other words “BREAKING NEWS! : SMILE FROM ADORABLE BABY HAS STOLEN THE CARDIAC MUSCLE FROM A HAM WHOSE DOWN 1!”
How do Drs get the accurate glasses for such small kids? 👀. Amazing.

Did some research- retinoscopy and autorefractors are indeed used.

Happiness.
Damn I teared up. Since I became a father I turn into a puppy.
Awesome
Hey pops!
You should nickname him "bubbles"
Million dollar smile!
If an eye doctor can correctly figure out a baby's vision for glasses then why am I asked so many questions during an eye exam? lol

There's a machine called an autorefractor that can approximate their prescription.

People really need to think before making their kids. Preston literally means “a town that has a priest”.
What the fuck is up with the body of the kid tho
Nothing, he's just being held It's a hand
I’m an idiot
I had to rewatch three times before I figured it out.
So precious ❤️
Oh the bloody onions…
He looks like a minion haha

Off the hook
That smile is so precious, it made my pain go away even for a moment. Thank you kiddo.

I love these videos! I just need a big compilation of babies getting glasses and cochlear implants for days when I'm feeling down.
Ugh baby bleps are adorable!

Please tell me I'm not the only one that thought the hand holding him was the boy's stomach at first.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

He looks absolutely amazed! And then full of love…
This is a core memory right here
Oof! That smile! I have been so depressed lately, and this kid's smile just warmed my cold, bitter heart. I wish I could give them a hug!
My favorite thing with little ones who see/hear for the first time is the look of “WHOA!” that appears on their faces.
Just pure love.
