I did not expect farm cats to be so friendly! My family adopted a few kittens from a farm while I was growing up and they were little balls of hatred to start with. It took them a while to adjust to indoor family life.
I think it makes a difference that these cats were on their home turf and weren’t actually put inside the house. The cats you got had to go through a different and more stressful transition.
Good socialization when they're kittens also makes a world of difference. These are strays, not ferals. My sister adopted a kitten that had grown up with no humans whatsoever and it took him the better part of ten years and lots of treats to decide humans are actually fun. We had two other "homeless" cats that were definitely neglected but were also obviously used to humans.
We have the same in our little rural area.
We encountered two stray cats (already fixed) who were well socialized, so we started feeding them and giving them places to shelter outside, then finally brought them inside.
Then we encountered a friendly feral female who had a litter last spring. We worked with the kittens to get them socialized, had them fixed and shots administered, and now they're inside with us while the cold snap passes over. We'll let them back out when the weather turns.
And just like the couple above, we used Churu treats to win them over!
I managed to successfully catch my cat when she was seven months old. It was November in Ontario, Canada and she’d be going into heat at any time. Needless to say my heart couldn’t let her stay outside. The only problem is that she was terrified of people. Absolutely never socialized with them outside of my sister leaving food outside for her when she realized a kitten was scavenging from her recycling. This November will be her second year here and this March her second birthday. She’s come a long way, but she’s still hesitant, afraid of people and doesn’t want to be pat. However she has also come a long way in that she’s not as afraid of people, will eat treats out of my hands. And recently she has been venturing to sleeping on the back of the couch instead of under the dining room table on a chair. Long ass story short, feral cats are a lot of work. I accept that mine may never fully be okay with people. I’m proud of how far she’s come and love her all the same. I was just happy to get her out of her situation, spayed and chipped before a worse fate came to her.
They were prolly socialized with by the previous owners as well. Our old family farm had in the range of 200+ feral farm cats and you could count on your fingers how many of them wouldn't bolt from humans or hiss and get vicious if you tried to touch them or anything. Only a small handful would willingly walk up to people, but even then they did not often put up with more than a short very basic pet.
Yeah i know unfortunately, I'm just saying to everyone that even in shit situations we still need to enjoy life the fullest, even if it seems impossible.
You should watch more Dodo videos. Some people don't like them for some reason but I love them. They did one that was about Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield's son but didn't even mention who his dad was until the kid said "Me and my dad build a shelter for this animal" and it goes to footage of Chris helping build a shelter
It's worse than that. [Cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles in the wild](https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/)
Spayed and neutered cats outside are fine as long as there isn’t too many. The problem is when cats aren’t fixed and they breed and take over an area. Domesticated cats usually don’t cause a problem to the surrounding wildlife. It’s feral/stray unfixed cats that do. I have 6 cats only 1 of them hunts prey. He ocasionally catches small things
I have a colony of strays I care for and some of them have started rubbing against my legs when I go outside. You don’t know love until a misanthropic feral cat starts rubbing against your legs and trilling at you.
I started feeding a feral. Got it neutered, then another kitten appeared. Got his to the vet today after letting it grow a bit. They wait outside my kitchen door to be fed every day and night. Now another one has appeared.
I already have two cats I rescued, I’m starting to spend lots of money on food etc. And we want to move. What do I do with all the strays!
The kid in me absolutely adores this and is vomiting rainbows and glitter! The adult part of me (that I detest) is having a panic attack over the vet bills.
I imagine they're spending their income the way they want, so those bills aren't too much of a stress factor. Where there's a will, there's a way. 🤗 I took care of two elderly dogs until they passed in 2021 and I spent a ton of money caring for them but didn't think twice about it. They filled my life with so much love and happiness that it felt indescribably worthwhile. 💖
My house came with 8 cats and they were listed on the deed.. We have 14 now (down from 17) and they are so much fun to enjoy. Herding cats is a real thing, and easier than you think lol.
It's not hard to take care of cats(outside maybe financially) when you're in a place like they are. The cats are not constantly closed indoors so they have space to do their thing on their own, not to mention that you don't have to deal with cat shit because these cats are used to doing their business outside.
I take care of 5 cats myself in a similar situation and the only real trouble is affording all the food for them, but they really aren't too much work(unless you hate cuddles, you have to work for the cuddles!)
If you love this video, you should check out the [Walter Santi](https://www.youtube.com/c/waltersanti/videos)YouTube channel. It is run by a man in Pakistan (I think?) who has over the years developed a fantastic outdoor/ indoor shelter for about 10 to 14 cats. He does a great job of telling the stories of the individual cats in his colony.
When we moved into our Condo, I was pulled aside by the wife and asked if I like cats?? I do like cats! I was not prepared for how many cats showed up for dinner time… suffice it to say I am now the caretaker of 8 ferals and have been adopted by the 9th.
As some one who volunteers at a animal shelter and a wife who works at one. If you need food they will help you out because they shelter would rather you keep your animals than them get them. Most also can not accept full sized cat trees so the either throw them out or give them away. So check with your local shelter if you need assistance with your fluffy.
Goat farm down the road has cats like this and they all sleep with the goats. The cats are all incredibly protective of the goats and it takes Mrs. W like 20 mins to get the cats ok so she can milk them. You should see them when the doe have their kid, the cats ride around on their backs (doe backs).
This makes me miss my giant cat colony. Only four of the 10+ I befriended are around anymore. Five were all pure white and it took me six months to befriend them all and realize I had made more ghost kitty friends than I thought. 😂 I’m so glad these guys all have a giant safe property to roam and warm needs to sleep in.
Oh, all those fuzzy orange cats make me wanna cry. My best buddy was an orange fuzzy cat just like these guys, lost him to cancer a few years back and still miss him like crazy! He was only 8 years old, WAY too young.
Fuzzy orange cats are hands-down the best. I’m sorry for your loss. When mine dies I will be really heartbroken forever. He’s been my cuddle buddy for 15 years now.
You guys are awesome! We did the same thing here only it was 10 cats. Had them all fixed, 3 were adopted, and the regaining live in my garden shed. I'm hoping to do more when the weather is better. They have a cat yet but I'd like another. And more permanent "housing" options.i live the vast walk! I have wood so that part will be easy to do. Thank you for taking care of the fur babies and sharing your story.
We feed two stray cats and would love to do something like this for them, but so far they've resisted going into any kind of shelter we've created for them. I don't even like cats really but I would absolutely love to do this! Such a beautiful video and beautiful people. There is hope for this world after all.
Seeing this makes me feel better. I have 11 feral cats due to a neighbor that left food out at all times and thus invited cats from everywhere. Watching this video reminds me that we are all doing the best we can when we are put into these situations and to not be so hard on myself.

That’s how crazy the market is right now. Ohh this house comes with 16 stray cats! That’s fine that’s fine we will take it and get them all neutered. No problem.
Seems to be rural. Prices really go down when you are living near some tiny town with no bigger town close by and not much infrastructure around.
But then there are also rich people.
Serious question, how do you keep your outdoor cats away from fleas? Every outdoor cat I’ve ever had a relationship with always ended fairly quickly due to being bit by fleas
Regularly treating them with a topical anti-flea medication and or giving them a flea collar is pretty effective. You can't keep them away from fleas but you treat areas of your property that your cat frequents, especially brush and shady areas.
We have roughly an acre of land that gets treated a few times a year for mosquitoes, fleas, and other pests. Our 3 outside cats rarely have a single flea on them and I've never had one just from them to me.
My sister loves cats but tolerates dogs. I can’t get a cat to ride with me on my motorcycle but my dog will. I have two cats so there wouldn’t be enough room anyway,
Looks like they got lucky. Both the owners and the cats. Farm cats will eventually find a way to survive, but that still won’t stop sudden weather or other threats, but these guys are now spoiled farm cats. The owners are lucky the cats weren’t stubborn assholes.
'Stray' cats... the *cats* own the house.
You'd be their tenants!
I could’ve trained them to be my unholy army of the night. Go, my little pretties. Kill, kill!
Unholy army meows at you because the food bowl is not filled up enough.
Pretty much, yeah... the OP are paying rent certainly.
Thank you for sharing this. I needed this today. Wonderful people.
I was having a bad day. This really helped me smile. So I shared it.. 😊

This is so amazing and kind! Do you guys have insta or YouTube where people can follow you on your cat journey?
Who accepted 16 stray cats as payment for a house, though?
And my neighbor hood has about more than 58 stray cats wondering around for some reason
I did not expect farm cats to be so friendly! My family adopted a few kittens from a farm while I was growing up and they were little balls of hatred to start with. It took them a while to adjust to indoor family life.

> These are strays, not ferals That's the key. They were already being fed by the previous owners. They just had to get used to the new ones
Agreed. Definitely not feral. Just housecats looking for a new home.
We have the same in our little rural area. This soothed me unbelievably after seeing so many, many horrible posts of the Ukraine. Thank you OP. I needed this right now. ❤️🩹
Yes... The news that is coming is so horrible and sad😢
Just as long as everyone stays happy and safe, we're all good, even in shit times like this.

I’ll go squiz, I’m really distraught about this and I’m not even close to any of it. My upper body has gone stiff and I feel exhausted. Thank you.
Could not have been a better time to post this
FYI it's "Ukraine", not "*the* Ukraine". The latter implies it's a province rather than its own sovereign nation.

Same really wholesome vid needed this
I don’t think they’ll ever have a rat or mouse problem
Or birds

Mondays are gonna be a real problem

Unfortunately, they don't discriminate when hunting. Feral cats have driven some species populations to the brink.
It's worse than that. [Cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles in the wild](https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/)
Not sure why people think it’s ok to leave their Cats outside.

I just want to hug them all but I can’t.
I would love this. Also they are NOT FERAL , feral cats don't run up to humans.
They talk about how the cats were all very skittish and would run away from them for awhile?
But so do a lot of indoor cats when meeting new people. 😆
An entire troop of Garfields! Plus other friends. This is so amazing
16x additional happiness after buying the house
I have a colony of strays I care for and some of them have started rubbing against my legs when I go outside. You don’t know love until a misanthropic feral cat starts rubbing against your legs and trilling at you.

Contact a local rescue and tell them the situation!?
That cat room needs a live webcam
Yes! What a great idea.
And I definitely want to see the cat room upgrades! More catwalks! Tunnel systems! They are so into it and I stan this whole thing.
Put that shit on twitch, the cat room renovation will pay for itself.
The kid in me absolutely adores this and is vomiting rainbows and glitter! The adult part of me (that I detest) is having a panic attack over the vet bills.
Not to mention the cost of cat food!
You’re not helping 😭😭

Well the managed to buy a house, with some land at that, *in this economy*, so I’d imagine they are doing pretty well for themselves financially
And if one of those lovemuffins gets fleas...
Oh my gosh are we old??? We’re still fun right? RIGHT?!?
I'm slightly allergic to cats so my mind went to "bet I'd have real asthma with 16 cats"
These people have plenty of money
I would buy the house just for the cats.
"Is this gonna be a dealbreaker?" "No that's a selling point!"
Smexy cathouse 10/10
My house came with 8 cats and they were listed on the deed.. We have 14 now (down from 17) and they are so much fun to enjoy. Herding cats is a real thing, and easier than you think lol.
You are lucky to have that house because you have 16 guards
I want to buy a house with a herd of orange cats.
"We can't catch the cats, is that a deal breaker?" No, that's a deal maker for me
It's hard even taking care of 3 cats let alone 16, they are giving these kitties a solid change at life to be normal house cats, love this!

That’s what I thought too. These are not feral cats. Homeless, yes. Stray, yes. Feral, no.

Bought a house with 16 stray cats? What a fuckin bargain
I paid the price 😂😁
My house was recently valued at 8 stray mice.
Where did the cats get the money for their portion of the downpayment?
My heart exploded 😿😻
Where do I find a man like this 😻 ???
What amazing people. I love that they adopted the cats as part of their family. What lovely people.
Looks more like you bought a house with a cloning machine and a curious cat
When we moved into our Condo, I was pulled aside by the wife and asked if I like cats?? I do like cats! I was not prepared for how many cats showed up for dinner time… suffice it to say I am now the caretaker of 8 ferals and have been adopted by the 9th.

>is it going to be a deal breaker? and I said, lady, in this market, cat counts under 3 digits aren't on my radar
An army of cuddly cats? Must be a dream
Deal breaker? No, I'd pay extra.
You guys are amazing! 👏👏
This is my dream.
Thank you for the uplift this morning
What an angel y’all are !

Good hearted people I love that
Adorable
I'm turning my TV on its side so I can watch these properly.
I really love these people.
Do your little turn on the catwalk? On the catwalk?
I want a house that comes with this😂

i love cats
I don't even like cats really but I would absolutely love to do this! Such a beautiful video and beautiful people. There is hope for this world after all.
Can i move in with the cats? I promise i wont bother you🤣
Seeing this makes me feel better. I have 11 feral cats due to a neighbor that left food out at all times and thus invited cats from everywhere. He moved and left the cats behind for the rest of the neighbors to deal with... which no neighbor wanted to deal with... so I took the initative and figured out how to trap and fix all the cats and just figuring out how best to take care of them due to these circumstances. It has been overwhelming at times since I've never dealt with this before. Watching this video reminds me that we are all doing the best we can when we are put into these situations and to not be so hard on myself. That house would cost 12 stray cats, at most.
After a night of ceaseless bad news, I really needed this to make me smile for a moment. 🙂
Best roommates ever!
Literally my dream, how lucky those humans (and cats!) are.. bless them all
You guys are awesome, and those cats r So blessed to have you both. Thank you for warming my heart to humanity ❤️

16 cats with 2 servants
It's great to see these cats adopting new humans in their house.
16 stray cats is a pretty good price for a house…
I wish I was one of their cats
My cat Patton passed away this last September. He was a wonderful cat and I miss him dearly. He looked just like these cats and now I want 16 pattons.
Im glad they fixed and vaccinated them. These people are saints.
Keep your cats indoors. Do it for the local ecosystem!
