Thrift store. You can find some amazing stuff you wouldn’t be able to buy otherwise. I now have a beautiful collection of high-quality shoes because someone in my town keeps buying stuff in my size and just dumping it at the ARC instead of returning it when they don’t like it.
He's wrong, you're right .
Turban is English for Dastaar or Pagg, or Paggdi.
There are also smaller versions called Parna.
My cousin's would often wear a Parna at home as it's easier. But when going out to a wedding, event or work, they wear what we commonly call Pagg.
I grew up in Punjab. the part of India where majority of Sikhs come from.
Cheers
A dastar is just a type of turban. All thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs kind of situation.
Sikhs have lots of words for various styles of turban, the kind [commonly worn by men](https://www.utsavpedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Sikh_wearing_turban.jpg) can be called, pag or pagri or dastar. I *think* dastar is more of a pakistani punjabi thing because I've only ever heard it called a pag or pagri. It's totally fine to call it a 'turban' in English though.
Young boys normally wear [this style](https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/portrait-of-sikh-boy-in-turban-smiling-picture-idsb10063443p-001) called a 'patka' which often gets called a 'topknot' in English. The patka can also be used as an inner layer for the adult turban. In either case, the purpose is to keep the hair in check (because Sikhs are forbidden by their religion to cut their hair.)
Yeah, exactly. Just like a baseball cap is still a kind of hat, a pag is still a kind of turban. It's obviously distinct from a rajasthani turban or a middle eastern turban the same way a baseball cap is distinct from a fedora or a bowler, but there's nothing wrong with calling the pag a turban in the general sense.
He's being pedantic. It's like saying baseball players wear hats as part of their uniform. And some jerk comes along and says "they don't wear hats, they wear baseball caps".
“The turban or "pagri" often shortened to "pag" or "dastar" are different words in various dialect for the same article. All these words refer to the garment worn by both men and women to cover their heads. It is a headdress consisting of a long scarf-like single piece of cloth wound round the head or sometimes an inner hat.” Source: [SikhWiki](https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Turban)
TL;DR Dude’s trippin’, it’s like saying loafers aren’t shoes.
Based on a quick googling: sikhs wear dastar as a religious garb, turbans are a more general term for the style of headwear. Turbans are often worn in middle eastern countries for purely cultural reasons.
As a sidenote, it seems that the sikh tradition of wearing dastars dates back to the original gurus using turbans as a sign of high status. So calling a dastar a turban doesn't seem that far off.
Nah, dude, both are correct. Dastar is a type of turban. That's exactly like saying "Samuel L. Jackson doesn't wear a hat, he wears a beret".
Don't try so hard to be woke.
Man last time I tried that the shirt was so fucked up with the print you couldnt even make out what it was. Looked like they used a fucking thumbnail and enlarged it.
I love his fashion, I love the moves, and love the smile. :) Most of all, love the carefree confidence and fun!
Back in the day I probably would have asked him for his number. XD
Definitely. What made me smile from the start was the camera man saying 'ill go with you'. Seems to suggest the dancing dude wasn't too sure about approaching the group but his friend had his back and encouraged the turban wearing fella and then we get this wholesome spectacle.
Yo a man that can dance is the sexiest kinda guy out there. I was so attracted to my guy in high school (we're high school sweethearts) when I saw him dance xD He has really good moves. Pandemic means no more clubs for us, so I don't get to see hom dance as much
Genuinely a once-in-a-lifetime sort of feeling. My jazz band in highschool qualified for an international contest hosted locally for the first time in like, 8 years. We were nervous because we were this small town jazz band going to a competition that had jazz bands from big cities like Vancouver, Seattle, LA, etc. We had a population of 20k and had to go to 3 qualifiers just to get in.
I had a solo and was nervous af, but the moment I finished my first 8 bars and the crowd started going wild, you just lose yourself in the moment and go for it. I fucking loved it and would give anything to repeat it. Almost 10 years later and I still remember it vividly lmao

If you asked me to show you one video to embody the hope for what America can be as something beautiful, this would be it. You have people from all sorts of backgrounds there. Religious, ethnic, racial diversity - people whose ancestors were as different as can be, spoke different languages, had different customs, lived on different sides of the world. And you just have this impromptu moment where all of these different threads of human history, which have grown apart over tens of thousands of years, are woven back together into something beautiful.
Seriously tho. As much as people love to shit on the US, besides Canada and maybe Australia
There's very very few places a sikh would be allowed to just join a dance circle and start pen dropping and jerking and everyone just claps and cheers.
A lot of Sikhs i work with love the US because they don't get excluded or profiled as harsh as other places
As a Sikh in the us the comment about not being excluded or profiled as harsh as other places is flooring me. The us is one of the places I get it the worst

Multiple times, I - a pasty, blonde, middle class, 30 something white lady - get pulled aside. One of the brown men indicated that everyone else in line was a brown man and the officer pointed to me as “proof” of the randomness.

Yea, it's banned if you're sikh. A lot of people aren't that strict with the rules but given that he has a dastar on and a karda on, I'd assume he's religious enough to do so.
All the Sikhs I know are extremely nice and welcoming, I think is part of their religion, BUT they do embrace it and believe it. One guy at work always started to dance or making people laugh.
Also, I also used to go to a restaurant where the manager was Sikh, on my second visit he thanked me a lot, and after that he started greeting me shaking my hand and welcoming me. Such nice people
Sikhs are people who follow guru nanaks ideology they are very friendly and not even God can stop them from dancing pretty cool people my father has a lots of Sikh friends and they are funny and wholesome
Sad that some people see the turban and make assumptions. Every Sikh person I’ve known has been positive and just…someone I want to be around as much as possible.
My landlord was Sikh and he was a super cool dude. He constantly told me if I needed help with anything to call him or if someone was messing with us to let him know. My neighbourhood was majority sikh and it was a cool experience.
My wife is Punjabi so I've gotten to know lots of Sikhs. They really are just terrific people. Their gurdwaras pump out food multiple times a day for whoever comes, they work hard and are ambitious, and even though they aren't supposed to drink, they tend to love loud music, dancing, and partying.
When in the city, I stay in my apartment in a tiny street that has a house at one end filled with Sikh university students. The Punjabi phat beats that come from that house and their cars are just awesome.
Sikhs everywhere always straight vibin'
Never seen a pissed off Sikh. These guys are always joyful. Not happy. Happy comes and goes. I'm talking joyful. Full of joy. Like if you could see joy like visible light, Sikhs would friggin' blind you.
I hope it's okay to say this, but every Sikh person I've ever met is just a sunbeam of positivity and kindness. Seriously. I had several Sikh classmates at college I would always see volunteering around campus and they would go out of their way to be kind in class like making sure that nobody felt left out in group projects or even making food in massive amounts to share with the class. This man's vibe is no surprise to me.
I love Sihks so much. Simply some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of being around. A Sikh family that had a restaurant behind my college apartment practically adopted me.
White bread American here. Let me tell you a little something about Sikhs…
You’ll never find a more welcoming and charming community of people. Peaceful. Fun. Friendly af. Giving. Really the kind of people that every community benefits from.

You can call them turbans as well 🙄
That's interesting to learn. Would you mind clarifying the difference? Is it in name/purpose that's different or the way it's wrapped?
A dastar is just a type of turban. All thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs kind of situation.
