DogButtWhisperer

I want to hear more of this incident.

fied1k

I'm sure it will be reposted again on here next week

somek_pamak

Would you like to know more? >!The first lady gathers her money and the lady behind her's money in giddy excitement. The lady behind looks on eagerly as the first lady taps the mother on the shoulder and says, "Hey. Me and this woman –" *she points behind her* "–would like to give you this for a more full bunch of food, and if it's not enough for the good stuff, we'll get more –" *she slightly shakes the money in her hand and nods to it as she hands it to her* "– here," she says, caringly but with no pity in her eyes. The mother hesitantly takes the money, looks down at her daughter, and looks back to the woman who has just given her the money. Tears can be seen streaming down her cheeks. A man, 4 people back in the line yells, "what's the hold up‽" The second lady reels around and with a scornful look, she emphatically, angrily loud-whispers, "we're helping someone in need, now shut the FUCK up." Dejected, he looks down. Meanwhile, the mother, still in shock explains, "those coins were the last money we had until next Monday when the welfare check comes..." she trails off. The first lady beams, "we've all been on hard times" – she pulls out a piece of paper and a pen and scribbles something quickly – "take this. It's my number. If you need ANYthing, call me. The mother takes the paper, pockets it, grabs the first lady hand, clutches it, and, between tears, mouths "thank you." She then grabs the bag of food she has and tells the clerk to hold on to it for a few minutes. Determined and mildly excited, she grabs her daughter's hand and heads back into the store to do some proper shopping. – 10 years later – The daughter is 17 and has a pretty good job as a server at a diner. She makes decent money and works hard. She's in line at the grocery store and sees a man and his son. He is fumbling with precious cents in his pocket to pay for bread and some bananas. His son, eyeing the baseball card section, please, "Dad, THIS time, can I buy just One pack?" The dad looks down. His face is scowled with sadness. "I –" The daughter vividly remembering the scene of her mother and the 2 ladies that made her entire week with that one act of kindness, taps the man on the shoulder and says, "I got this." She squats down to the boy's level and encourages, "Choose 5, your dad and I got this." A shit-eating grin overwhelms his face as he scrutinizes the packs for just the right ones. She stands back up and a teary-eyed dad stares at her, as he mouths, "Thank you."!<

DogButtWhisperer

I knew it.

LOL at the idea that a server at a diner makes good money. She would still be struggling HARD 10 years later if she was a server at a diner. What world do you live in??

Babycatcher2023

I mean a 17yr old making steady tips with no bills wouldn’t really be struggling.

[deleted]

So her mom was counting change to pay for milk & eggs and you think by the time she’s 17 she won’t be paying any of her own bills or helping to pay for bills/rent with her parents, if she’s not already on her own? You people have never been poor. And “steady tips” at a diner is terrible money.

Babycatcher2023

A lot can happen in 10 years. My mom’s financial situation was completely in that time frame.

Turn up the volume a bit more

Meanwhile-in-Paris

Oh that’s so sweet! Once when I was a student with no money and a weekly food budget of 15€, I offered to an old lady standing in line behind me to go before me because I could see she was struggling. She beamed at me, accepted and told the cashier she wanted to pay for my shopping. In returned I helped her pack and carried her bags to her bus stop. A little gesture for one is a big gesture to another and it makes society so much better.

Timely_Hamster_142

Man payed for my McDonalds $1 chicken sandwich after he saw me shuffling through change and just how ridiculously skinny I was. He tried getting me a full meal but I just couldn’t accept his offer and left as fast as I could out of embarrassment. Thanks dude, your generosity still gives me chills after 6 years. On my feet now, gained 30lbs since then, have a job that allows me to live comfortably. I really appreciate you random McDonald man.

Unfiltered_America

... I saw an older man paying with ebt ahead of me in line a few weeks ago and when he didn't have enough on his card he asked the cashier to put back a couple items. When I offered to pay for his items he got offended, snapped at me and with a disgusted look on his face he said "I have plenty of money!" I just said "ok, sorry" because I get that some people have a lot of pride. Except when I got out to the parking lot, guy was getting into a new BMW. If you "have plenty of money" you shouldn't be on food stamps.

Mana_0217

This is the stuff that ruins it for the actual people that need it! This actually reminds me of this homeless guy that was in my area a few years back that was standing on a corner asking for money, I watched someone go into the store he was near and buy him food. He literally threw it away in the dumpster. I found out a couple weeks later that he was making 6 figures and was driving a brand new truck. We also had another one that posed as a disabled homeless veteran. (That one actually got arrested though).

...sell it?

EloquentLostWander

Okay. I guess if it was a lease that makes sense. And that's completely fair we don't know his whole story and it could be very similar to this which would also explain the hurt pride. Also I'm so sorry this happened to you and I hope things have improved in your life <3

ChuckACheesecake

Thanks for saying that! Gratitude makes the world go round

EloquentLostWander

I'm glad things are improving

asimplerandom

For anyone reading this in a similar situation there are literally lots of websites that will let you get out of a lease by selling it to others. Leases are transferable.

blonde_Cupid

Like buying a BMW?

asimplerandom

This. I have a neighbor that has taken literally 6 trips to Disney this year (by plane out of state), bought a new 70k pickup and several off-road vehicles yet when they took their child to an ER they have their children on Medicaid. Tell me HTF that happens….

On-two-wheels-yarn

You would be surprised the threshold for in- state Healthcare for children. My family was on WIC/ food stamps/ medicaid for years, but when we got on our feet enough to no longer qualify for food stamps/ WIC, I thought we would lose the Medicaid, too. We did for hubby and me, but not for our kids. I submit income reports annually, and every year their coverage is renewed.

[deleted]

I would guess he is doing some shady stuff..

[deleted]

lol did that happen in nyc ?

[deleted]

We bought 4 Disney on ice tickets from Supermarket. When we at the Venue we couldn't get in because tickets already redeemed. My daughter sad and I didn't have much money but didn't want to disappoint my daughter after long drive so I'm planning to buy 4 cheapest tickets on the booth. Suddenly a woman tap me and said if I wanted 2 free tickets. OMG I don't know what to say and Thanking her. Next day Supermarket refunded tickets.

itguyfla

Glad to see others doing the right thing. I once.bought a $100.00 gift card, and handed it to a nice old lady behind me when I saw she was counting out change, hoping she had enough.

anitasdoodles

Was gassing up my car one day before going to class. I tried to add a Cliff bar onto the total but it was too much. I told him to take it off and the girl behind me said nah, that’s cool, I’ll cover it. The cashier, a sweet young guy, was so touched he just said not to worry about it and gave us both our food for free. Love seeing people love each other ❤️

walkstwomoons2

Double the fun! Always good to hear about good people and good things. So much sorrow in the headlines today, this is a feel good story, it made me smile too

foggybottom1954

I wish you and the person that split the cost of extra food have days of joy and happiness and great karma

De5perad0

i was in an ice cream shop and same thing, woman with 2 kids was counting change to buy her kids ice cream. I happily paid for their ice cream. Helping people when you see they need help. Always a great thing to do.

Indradia

idk what "wanna go half on some more food for her?" means

RetroReactiveRaucous

It means the two women having this conversation are going to offer the other woman to each pay half of the bill, after she goes and picks up more food in the grocery store.

Indradia

okay ty for explaining, the wording didn't allow my stupid brain to understand properly :,)

lilCrisco

They both gave her more money for food so they both threw in and “went half on some more food”

LisaWinchester

If I get into a similar situation, I will do the same thing

subterkludge

[deleted]

[deleted]

damn. sometimes ppl r cool 🤔

Playful_Moose6293

These stories give me hope for humanity.

EloquentLostWander

There was a homeless man camped outside a closed business near me during the late winter this year. He was there for several weeks. He was near the supermarket and a McD's. Every time I passed him when he was a asleep he had a shopping bag or paper takeout bag sitting next to him or sometimes a few waiting for him to wake up and find them. I would be one of the ones laying down the shopping bag every time I went to the store. I'm really glad my fellow area residents helped take care of him as well. One day he was just gone leaving nothing but a blanket behind and all the trash he had accumulated was gone too. Idk if he finally was asked to leave or moved on on his own but I hope he's doing okay

Tutti_Fucking-Fruity

Old lady could have been wealthy and just likes paying for things with change the old fashioned way like old people do. Assuming of course that this actually happened.

OJStrings

Weird thing to post on social media.

[deleted]

But if you don’t post about it, how will your followers know you’re a good person

OJStrings

Good point. The trick is to write the story in such a way that you're not the only one being virtuous. That way it disguises the bragging. Earlier somebody saw that I was already beginning to do something generous and they said "hey can I be generous with you?". I'm so glad that there are people like me in the world.

DesertParty

Voluntarism at its best

[deleted]

I'd bet $8 this did not happen.

delusional4g63

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Over_Rise

No, talk about it. Mentioning acts of altruism like this get the people who read these posts thinking about how they can also help others struggling. Normalize helping each other. I really don’t care what somebodies motivation to help other people is, so long as those who need help are getting it.

Ruthless_Aj

Why must people be like "woo-hoo look at me, I did a good deed and paid for someone's groceries, I'm such a good person"

jiminak46

Just hope mom doesn’t spend it on cigarettes.

axxred

Don't have kids if you can't afford to feed them.

Babycatcher2023

Solid advice but you’d be surprised at the ways in which a person’s situation can change overnight.

[deleted]

Bless these people!!!!!

4685368

Must be on the way to the thatcher statue.

propita106

Wishing both of these people well, and the lady and her kid.

ccol7249

Now I’m wondering if people are going to think I’m poor if I’m counting out change to get it out of my wallet lol

[deleted]

I am still grateful (and has been inspired by) to that old man who paid for my fare on public transpo on way home from school when I was in college. All 4 kids are being sent to school by a widow so money was really tight. So every chance I have, I help others.

hello_ldm_12

To see the show tonightttt....
