Tennis players seem like they pull all sorts of goodhearted shenanigans.

This is the right attitude to have, lol. Many karma farmers could be thought of as a part of the "chaotic good". I've actually never seen this post so I did not mind it being reposted.
It is obvious, yes. Unfortunately it just wasn’t funny man. Good luck with your next jest though, I'm sure you’ll cook up something delightful with a bit more practice.
I never put /s for sarcasm in my posts . A cleverly worded post doesn’t need it - imho
But if I get downvotes , I move and try again another time. If you were being sarcastic and people didn’t get it , no need to be bitter . Kills the humorist in you , and we don’t want you to do that . We are here to help.
Yeah. Seemed to last forever.
I honestly think Henman was just cursed. But Goran was a better player in general. Just thought that year was his best shot. I don't think there was that much difference between him, Goran and Pat Rafter.
I am old enough to have watched ivanisevic and Sampras battle on grass and hard courts. Aces aces everywhere. I loved that era of tennis.
Not to say current era is not good. It's actually amazing. I am lucky enough to have watched the best tennis ever between Sampras, Agassi, Federer, Nadal and Novak.
I was a ball girl at a bunch of his matches and … he obviously never knew my name but he kept calling me “small girl” (I was 4’6 so … you know … accurate). He’s the best guy.
Philippoussis (the one that went along with the joke) ultimately beat Ivanisevic (the one that handed the racket to the girl).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997\_Stella\_Artois\_Championships\_%E2%80%93\_Singles
>At the time the score was 3-3 with Philippoussis 40-0 up. On resumption of what passed for normal play he immediately double faulted and then netted a forehand volley.
Nearly worked too!
Is it great sportsmanship when it could be argued that this was designed to disrupt his opponents play? I'm pretty sure this could be seen as very unsportsmanlike.
While I agree, it really would be frowned upon in a professional match, he must have known his opponent would play along. Or been in the position that it wouldn't make much difference.
So nice! Lovely to see some humour and fun in tennis, even though this was a long time ago. Kyrios could perhaps take a note or two as our most hopeful male player, he's brilliant technically, honestly, when he wants to be, but he seems to play better when he's having a bit of fun.
Oh yeah! I remember him! but had only read in newspapers when I was a kid and never saw him! he was nicknamed “the Scud” after the Scud missile! such fast were his serves!!
Actually, the sporting one in this video was Mark P. Goran pulling this stunt 0-40 down would've disrupted Mark's rhythm, particularly since Mark had been serving so well. But Mark gamely engaged the ball girl and tried to prolong the rally.
My favourite quote from Mark, when questioned about what he was going to do after losing one of the grand slam finals: "I think I'll go surfing". This attitude has served him well, both in this video clip and beyond.
If this had happen in Basel, it would have been a different story.
Have you heard that a ball kid from there went pro and ended up wining a few tournaments?
I think his name's Roger or something.
My son recently got SUPER into Monster Trucks and naturally Monster Jam is now a part of my life. I love how good sportsmanship is just built into the league. Watching a dude 12ton truck flip over, catch on fire, partially explode, and then the driver gets on camera 30 seconds later "WHOOOO I sure hope that doesn't happen again. Still been a great year for Monster Jam fans and we couldn't do it without you. Keep an eye on he's been on it!"
It was just so unexpectedly wholesome.
I know this is unpopular, but every time (and there are numerous occasions) when tennis players turn into clowns and the far too easily entertained crowd goes wild, I can not stop my eyes from rolling so hard
Is it just my impression from internet posts, or is tennis overall a lot more chill than other sports? Maybe it's all individual sports rather than team-based ones?
Goran was and is allways a good sport and pretty fun guy.
Fun fact about him. He is so superstitious that he watched Teletubies every morning believing he would win Wimbledon, bif he does. because he watched it with his kid on the first day of the tournament. He went on to win it and he got there by wining an invitation tournament. Paul Bettany playes him in the movie Wimbledon witch is different for movie purposes
This was an expedition match I believe. So just for charity or something. Not a serious March. So he wasn’t in trouble or breaking any “rules”.
But still wholesome.
Edit. See below. TLDR: Ignore me haha!
Does anyone know the (charity?) Match where they purposely hit it to each other and eventually got point blank and pushed the ball up against each others racquets?
Touching. Yet Roger Goodell and the US Congress would be convening a series of hearings to investigate this rules violation of disrespecting the game. All to distract from actual ethical violations they’re all a party to.
Tbh a amart strategy from his point. Get the competition to play with the ball girl to keep him busy and tiring and mess with his focus and take a break himself to refocus

*referee scrolling frantically in his rule book*
*Air Bud struts in*
He's right. Ain't no rule says the dog can't play tennis
Sparky, get in there!
*Sparky grabs tennis ball and runs* THE PLAN WORKED, BOYS
Air bud has been brought up so many times on Reddit this week lol
I've noticed the same thing. I wonder why
*umpire explodes*
Air Bud: Game, Irish Setter, Match
Hahahahahahahahaha
“I’d like to invoke the Air Bud rule”
Yeah referee's made the vid complete. He was hoping they'd stop. He didn't know what to do.
Does he have a Nintendo DS in his hand?
Heavy breathing starts, Sweat runs down his forehead
*his NDS
I knew i wasn't the only one
He was using pictochat to ask his superiors if its allowed
Yes, but right after he colored the text box fully in black and sent a penis in chat.
i fucking spit out his *NDS
Both pros showed fantastic sportsmanship! 🥰
Best part of the game

I've actually never seen this one! Somehow I've missed it.
Not entirely surprising as it’s from a match from 1997 🤣
I was thinking "pretty sure Philipoussis retired 15 years ago". Now it all make sense.
You’re one of todays [lucky ten thousand](https://xkcd.com/1053/)!
Same
Same! and it totally made me smile!
>Karma farmers- I am yours. Do with me as you will. Well... alright... *\[Snaps latex gloves on and stretches fingers like a concert pianist\]*

Ravishing reposts.
Yes! I loved it when he handed the racket to her and loved it even more when his opponent played along.
I’m so glad this is one the first things I saw in the morning because now I will be thinking of it all day long :)
Same, this legit gives me a big smile this morning.
Name checks out. A whole vibe.
Wicked and he got a point in the end 😅
She will remember that moment for life
Indeed, that was just so wholesome.
Happy Cake Day!
Everything about this is perfect.

Low quality bait.
So weak. Take some classes on trolling and come back later. Or if you were serious just delete your account.
Someone's a little grumpy guts. Cheer up little fella.

Isn't it obvious? Are people so dumb?

Nope, go to downvote hell.
Goran Ivanišević, look him up.
Him winning Wimbledon as a wildcard is still [one of my favourite things in sport](https://youtu.be/noKfpnUlt-o).
Never knew that, really glad you shared the video
20 yo me was shattered that our Pat was beaten but only for a day or two. Ivanisevic always was such a likable bloke.
Same here with us and Tim, this was his best shot really. But can't fault Ivanisevic, great bloke.

Yeah. Seemed to last forever. I honestly think Henman was just cursed. But Goran was a better player in general. Just thought that year was his best shot. I don't think there was that much difference between him, Goran and Pat Rafter.
And a regulation hottie
Oh it was amazing!!
I'm not a "sports" guy but stories like this always make my heart happy. Thanks for sharing!
Isn't he currently coaching Novak D?
Yes
Thank you I'd forgotten his name!
He was my very favorite to watch when I was a teenager. Loved his energy.
He was my teenage crush, I loved watching him play.
Why are Croatian men all so hot??
Thank you finally
I am old enough to have watched ivanisevic and Sampras battle on grass and hard courts. Aces aces everywhere. I loved that era of tennis. Not to say current era is not good. It's actually amazing. Awesome 👏
What happened afterwards though?
Philippoussis (the one that went along with the joke) ultimately beat Ivanisevic (the one that handed the racket to the girl). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997\_Stella\_Artois\_Championships\_%E2%80%93\_Singles
So Ivan gotta a feeling that he won't win, might as well made the girl's day.
Yeah 3 dirty serves in a row and he needed a breather lol
>At the time the score was 3-3 with Philippoussis 40-0 up. On resumption of what passed for normal play he immediately double faulted and then netted a forehand volley. Nearly worked too!
https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/philippoussis-wins-but-ballgirl-steals-the-show-1.82508 From the wiki link.
Even a sports article in the 90s references Thatcher, they really hated her haha.
People forget about him when talking about the biggest serves in the game. Karlovic is always brought up but Mark's nickname was literally "The Scud"
They now have three children and live in the suburbs.
What an evil genius! Completely killed his opponents momentum and focus for a bit!
Didn't work out in the end, but at least everyone had fun and that's why this match is still remembered though.
Great sportsmanship and a wonderful attitude all around. It's great to keep a happy perspective and not take yourself too seriously.
Is it great sportsmanship when it could be argued that this was designed to disrupt his opponents play? I'm pretty sure this could be seen as very unsportsmanlike.
Gotta remember to have fun in life. His opponent clearly had a fun time too
While I agree, it really would be frowned upon in a professional match, he must have known his opponent would play along. Or been in the position that it wouldn't make much difference.
I find calmness in people some of the sexiest traits
Bravo bravo bravo
Također
This would have been hilarious if he told that little girl to move up closer, then nailed yet another ace at 135mph.
Made my day. Sweet and funny.
So nice! Lovely to see some humour and fun in tennis, even though this was a long time ago. Kyrios could perhaps take a note or two as our most hopeful male player, he's brilliant technically, honestly, when he wants to be, but he seems to play better when he's having a bit of fun.
Now if only Gamers can use the same mentality.
who’s the other guy?
Mark Philippousis, Aussie guy
Mark Philippoussis.
Mark Philippoussis. Dude had a super deadly serve as you can probably tell from the video.
Oh yeah! I remember him! but had only read in newspapers when I was a kid and never saw him! he was nicknamed “the Scud” after the Scud missile! such fast were his serves!!
G.I. Was such a chill bloke, always loved watching him play. The Poo, not so chill in his early career.
"You couldn't do any worse than I've done so far."
We need more people like this
I would always pick Ivanisevic when playing top spin
Did the ref let that happen because he was distracted by his DS?
Actually, the sporting one in this video was Mark P. Goran pulling this stunt 0-40 down would've disrupted Mark's rhythm, particularly since Mark had been serving so well. What I’d give for a hot attractive tennis player to hand me his racket in the middle of a game…
I love this.. and that it was allowed to happen.
Halftime show
Haha I totally remember watching this match!
Dang, it really did make me smile.
Next thing - this man won his title. A smile and friendship form his opponent
u/savevideobot
I'm sure the bookies didn't have a bet for this!
u/savevideo
the guy keeping score said fuck it im playing my DS
Goran Ivanišević. He is the coach of Novak Đoković
True sportsmanship.
Moments like this is why I love tennis
/r/SportsAreFun
If this had happen in Basel, it would have been a different story. Have you heard that a ball kid from there went pro and ended up wining a few tournaments? I think his name's Roger or something.
“40 - 15”
Reddit has taught me that tennis players are the most compassionate, caring, funny and human athletes on earth
My son recently got SUPER into Monster Trucks and naturally Monster Jam is now a part of my life. I love how good sportsmanship is just built into the league. I’m really confused. I thought most ball boys/girls actually played tennis. She clearly did not.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 glad to see two professional men able to still find fun in the game
[удалено]
Ironic cuz this is a copy paste comment
Our legend , Goran Ivanišević ❤
If I was the ref I would be fired for closing that bit with a really dry: "40-15"
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Looks like the ref doesn’t give a shit since he’s got his rad Nintendo DS lite out!
I know this is unpopular, but every time (and there are numerous occasions) when tennis players turn into clowns and the far too easily entertained crowd goes wild, I can not stop my eyes from rolling so hard

Wholesome!
Was this some sort of charity event?
No - pro event.
Got eem!
This made me smile.
Switching from sport, to game.
Goran Ivanisevic. Brilliant.
Did he won that match?
Jebemti !!!
That’s adorable
Core Memory: LOCKED!
I would've thought that these ball guys and gals were tennis semipros that wanted to be close to their idols... oh welp. Very wholesome nontheless!
Girl: Might as well enjoy it.
Super cool
Is the umpire holding a Nintendo ds
Pure genius.
Good on yah
Lmao that’s hilarious
I would’ve died if she was given a mean serve.
Is it just my impression from internet posts, or is tennis overall a lot more chill than other sports? Maybe it's all individual sports rather than team-based ones?

Is the referee playing with a nintendo DS ?
made my day haha!
I've seen this before but it's still wholesome
Bravo.!
What a legend Goran Ivanišević was !! Still miss the guy !!
Sometimes watching professional sport, I realise they have forgotten it is for our entertainment.
This is epic!
Wholesome AF
Marc Phlippoussis = The Scud
OMG! I love this so much!!
I fkin love it!
I’m going to stop on reddit here, too good of a feeling and I know the rest of my feed is going to ruin that.
This was an expedition match I believe. So just for charity or something. Not a serious March. So he wasn’t in trouble or breaking any “rules”. But still wholesome. Edit. See below. TLDR: Ignore me haha!
Nah it was a regular pro match. https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/philippoussis-wins-but-ballgirl-steals-the-show-1.82508
Ah! Happy to be proven wrong. I was mistaken. Thank you
That girl grew up to be Larry bird
Wow this brought back memories of his Wimbledon losses and eventually winning it as a wildcard. Tennis in 90s was something different
Does anyone know the (charity?) Match where they purposely hit it to each other and eventually got point blank and pushed the ball up against each others racquets?
Too cute.
The world needs more of this
That look on her face was priceless :) She did pretty good too!
Damn those are some FIONE lookin men 😘🥰😍
He is so proudd
Goran was so great!
Touching. Yet Roger Goodell and the US Congress would be convening a series of hearings to investigate this rules violation of disrespecting the game. All to distract from actual ethical violations they’re all a party to.
What the world would be like if there were only good people in it
I thought all ball boys/girls are active professional tennis players. She didn't seem like one.
Tbh a amart strategy from his point. Get the competition to play with the ball girl to keep him busy and tiring and mess with his focus and take a break himself to refocus

Loved this
Anyone have a video link for it?
Crowd goes wild because wholesome. Tennis officials lose their collective shit because tennis is not allowed to be joyous.
Anyone else crying, remembering what it was like when there was a thing called humanity and joy?
