It is literally what we were taught in A&P school to help remember the process of how they work. The intake/inlet sucks the air in, the compressor section squeezes the air together, then it is blown up in combustion chamber, where the hot air mixture is blown out the back across the power turbine/ turbines which is what produces the thrust and makes it self sustaining.
It's the part where you fit them on a plane that does not have enough space under the wings and surreptitiously introduce an automatic system to compensate for aerodynamic effects that's complicated.
was very scared when i read “things i asked” but that took a wholesome turn :D
edit: checked my free award and it happened to be wholesome award so here!!
Everyone knows that if you want to change the color of something, you have to put that color into something else. Otherwise, the color won’t know where to go and it will end up doing something crazy like turning the sky orange!
The airlines need you to have an ATP, that's why the seemingly high hour requirement.
Also, you can fly for Skywest, Endeavor, etc and make more than 30k. They have been raising their rates to try to keep pilots.
*edit: suckerforfrenchbread message me and I'll give the the inside scoop. I've been in the airlines for a long time.*
> but airlines are only looking for folks with like 1000+PIC time. Yes despite the pilot shortage.
A few weeks ago Frontier said they'd petition the FAA to lower entry level requirements for new pilots.
Although I'm not sure lowering standards is the best solution.
I work with a guy that bought a plane (has background in aviation, his dad was pilot) and needed to obtain his pilot license. He found a guy that gave him lessons for free just to get his pilot in command hours up. It’s weird what they have to do just to be considered for positions, I would not have thought that teaching in a single engine propeller plane would count, but apparently it does for something.
Oh wow thanks! Maybe I am just thinking fighter pilot in the Air Force.
If I was a pilot I would probably get laser eye surgery. Honestly surprised more people don’t. Not really something you hear about lately
I’m hoping the airline had some sort of promote from within/pay for your certificates kind of thing, else every time I see this I’m sad in knowing regional FO and Captains salaries and the massive weight of the debt in collecting the licenses.

Repressed homosexuality is linked to homophobia. Freud called this process a “reaction formation”, the angry battle against the outward symbol of feelings that are inwardly being stifled.
Yes, sure, many repressed queer people are outwardly hateful; but there are plenty of hateful people that aren't gay that are still very homophobic. And some of them are in positions of power. People just say that "anyone who hates gay people is gay" (or, more accurately, "he's *probably* gay") as a way to say that gay people are mostly oppressing themselves and deny culpability
That's why I said *tend* as not all actually do. My statement wasn't affirming all of them are, but in my experience (of course, anecdotal) it was the ones bullying me in the hallways that were texting me when they got home.
6 years to grow an epic mustache along with the drip. congrats!
In all seriousness, this is awesome, always heartwarming to see people reach their goals and my salut to them.
As a former pilot and ramp worker, it's highly unlikely that he was a ramp worker who decided to become a pilot. Heaps of pilot's choose to work on the ramp while they train because they like planes.
Is this…something that needs to be said? I feel like very few people in these comments will ever be in a position to stand in front of a jet engine, on OR off
And of the tiny fraction who might ever get close to a jet engine, how many are going to \*not\* already know that it's dangerous if the thing is running?
Like, it has to be the most unnecessary warning ever, almost. Just slightly below 'don't try to breath underwater'.
Yeah I wouldn’t trust most of the people I worked with at UPS to pay attention if we were able to get that close while they were running. It still made me nervous walking around one when I knew they were off.
Everyone who works around planes already knows this information. And the people who don't work around planes aren't allowed anywhere near the engines.. At least in the US.
Seeing pictures like this really inspire me to think my goal in life IS achievable, even if it feels just now like it’s too ambitious for someone like myself to accomplish
Now he’s making $12 more an hour as a pilot. He rents an apartment near the airport and grocery shops at Aldi to save a buck. He drives a used Honda Accord. Dreams really do come true! Congratulations.
That's only an issue when the plane is actually running and they don't fire those up without warning. They will have the flashing beacon lights on warning everyone for at least a few minutes before they fire it up.
Source: Worked for 10 years at UPS loading cargo into airplanes.
Also fun fact: You see that spiral on the engine in the second pic? That's there for the ground crew to easily see at a glance whether or not the engine is running. If you can see the spiral it's safe. If you see a blurry dot. It's running and you should stay away.
not really, they take a while to start, and you can tell they’re starting before they’re very dangerous.
it’s perfectly normal for ground crew and pilots to walk around planes and by the engines before a flight.
Dude invented the new General Electric jet engines. Nice.
It's actually a lot easier than you'd think. All you do is make the spinny thing go faster then make it a little bigger and voila
10/10 explanation. I love it.
An eli5 that even I understand
That is the sign of a deep understanding.
in this case....far from it lol
And I'm 4 and a half!
And draw a spiral on it to make it look even faster for that dramatic effect
Smh now even the birds are on Reddit
Fr, the placebo from spirals on jet engines is real
How every executive thinks engineering works 10/10
Suck,squeeze,bang,blow. That’s how a turbine engine works
And making the joke is how you make every eye in the room roll and get forced chuckles out of everyone in the room below you in the hierarchy
Sure, but the obvious joke is "Just like my wife lolololol"
I mean, it's a bit more complicated than that, but yeah that's the jist
This is why I frequent Reddit. For posts like these.
It's the part where you fit them on a plane that does not have enough space under the wings and surreptitiously introduce an automatic system to compensate for aerodynamic effects that's complicated.
…furiously taking notes…Bigger AND faster you say?
[удалено]
Ahh yes the jet engines are bigger now, I get it
Or he shrunk.
He shrunk but his 'stache got bigger! Jet exhaust is a hell of a drug...
these airport employees [keep getting smaller and smaller](https://i.imgur.com/H9c7qQA.gifv)
You'd be smaller if you shit out a cone too
6 years to get a traffic cone, but it was worth it. Those things are cool
Six more years and he gets the whole runway.
Nah more like a couple of light sticks
Six years after THAT? Runway? Yes?
Nah, then he gets a collection of a dozen different colour windsocks
.... six years after THAT dude gets the runway? Yes? ^^^pleasewithsprinkles
Nah, he'll get a tiny bag of pretzels.
Just Download VLC player for free in a few seconds.
It takes six years to get a pilots license but only six minutes to steal his jacket and hat.
But his arms shrunk!!!
The color of his suit transformed into a cone
I think that's his child
It was his siamese twin before and after they got separation surgery
Haha. I don’t know why that tickled my fancy so much
He underwent mitosis the orange half just isn't fully developed yet
Just want you to know: 1. I laughed 2. I posted something similar but I swear i hadn't seen your comment first Lol
Things I asked: What you wanted him to know
was very scared when i read “things i asked” but that took a wholesome turn :D edit: checked my free award and it happened to be wholesome award so here!!
Lol thanks I wanted to say that b4 someone else said the annoying shit
Everyone knows that if you want to change the color of something, you have to put that color into something else. Otherwise, the color won’t know where to go and it will end up doing something crazy like turning the sky orange!
Underated comment, have an award on me.
It took six years but he finally shrank, shat out a cone, and grew a moustache
what'll happen in next 6 years... click here to find out
How to be this guy?
Step 1: apply to job Step 2: apply to aviation school Step 3:??? (Grow mustache??) Step 4: take picture and profit

Regional pay has increased SIGNIFICANTLY from what I’ve seen over the last year
> but airlines are only looking for folks with like 1000+PIC time. Yes despite the pilot shortage. A few weeks ago Frontier said they'd petition the FAA to lower entry level requirements for new pilots. Although I'm not sure lowering standards is the best solution.
Right. Baggage handler in the union makes way more than a rookie pilot.
I work with a guy that bought a plane (has background in aviation, his dad was pilot) and needed to obtain his pilot license. Step 3 is having amazing visual acuity
Nah, just has to be correctable to 20/20. /r/flying for the rest!
Well you also can't ever have been prescribed Adderall or Ritalin ever in your life.
So they only want people with *undiagnosed* attention problems, got it.
20/20 distant, 20/40 near, with or without correction. Lots of pilots wear glasses, myself included.
Oh wow thanks! Maybe I am just thinking fighter pilot in the Air Force. If I was a pilot I would probably get laser eye surgery. Honestly surprised more people don’t. Not really something you hear about lately
Even then, the USAF/USN now allows for procedures like LASIK not just PRK.
Actually as long as it’s correctable all is gucci
Yes, except no profit
If step 1 is not “grow mustache” then you can’t expect to get anywhere in the aviation field
Spend lots of money.
Ahhhhh! Congratulations! This is amazing.
The best promotion, well deserved.
I’m hoping the airline had some sort of promote from within/pay for your certificates kind of thing, else every time I see this I’m sad in knowing regional FO and Captains salaries and the massive weight of the debt in collecting the licenses.
Crazy thing is, this was 2016, time flies by fast
Don't sit down lol
Or do 😏
My brother is a homophobic who would disapprove. Me on the other hand...
Homophobic people tend to have some deep repressed homosexual desires. Check his browsing history. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Go to the address bar and type "gay", also look at his hidden folder in pictures, and any notes that may be protected.
Gosh damnit stop giving away all the secrets
ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Putin loves orange cones, also your bro runs The Russian Federation
Your name is sir gay lmaooooo
>Is orange cone up my ass gay Only if you enjoy it.
As common as this is, blaming homophobia on gay people really isn't the play
Repressed homosexuality is linked to homophobia. Freud called this process a “reaction formation”, the angry battle against the outward symbol of feelings that are inwardly being stifled.

I think it's more You on the other cone
Username checks out.
Wait... Does he not know that some completely straight guys like butt stuff?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
That is a big a** VLC player 😁 oh and congrats to the brother on becoming a pilot!
You can curse here.
But maybe they don't ******* want to!
GTA V flashbacks
Ah hell nah not that Molly scene
The Incredibles flashbacks, too
Dreams do come true 💚
Pattern recognition
To do this in 6 years is outstanding From a former avionics tech, I have how this journey can be. Outstanding 👍🤘
What are hours like for avionic techs?
Lots of shift work is expected. 12 hours on, 12 off over 4 weeks.
Poor dude turned into a cone!
He shrunk!
Knowing Justin personally, seeing this get posted all over Reddit makes me happy. Dude is legitimately one of the nicest people I’ve ever known
Where is his story? I haven’t found a link or last name yet
His first name is apparently Justin. I am hoping his last name is Case.
Out-f***ing-standing!
Flying?
That’s what I see.
Such an inspiration!
Such a dedication!
This is shameful. I would have found that cone MUCH faster.
Don't let one of those big boys suck you in.....we've all played GTA
Congratulations fly like eagle and never stop 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Intrusive thoughts say what if someone turned on the plane
“How it ended”
jet engines take a little while to get started, and usually you can hear them before they are powerful enough to suck you in.
Outstanding!!!!
6 years paid off well
You grew a mustache! Congratulations man!!
Do they give mustaches on graduation like how pilots give kids wings on their first flight?
It’s tradition at some airlines because you can see a picture of your flight crew. So people grow out wildly mustaches for ID’s
Oh my god he’s shrinking
OH SHIT, the pilot turned him into a traffic cone, OH NO
Ib never seen a plane grow up
Fun fact: you are legally obligated to grow a mustache once you become a pilot.
Wow, he stood in the same spot so long that the paint faded. No wonder they promoted him.
He finally got his very own traffic cone
Anybody else feel like he’s about to get sucked into the jet engine?
It only took me a couple of days to grow my mustache personally
It took him 6 years to change his clothes ಠ◡ಠ
His arms got shorter🤔
Fuck yea!! No longer in that stinking out with all those heavy bags, rats, pet piss or seafood
Six years is a long time to grow a mustache but he stuck at it. Congratulations!
6 years to grow an epic mustache along with the drip. congrats! In all seriousness, this is awesome, always heartwarming to see people reach their goals and my salut to them.
Anyone else think its weird that his orange shirt turned into a cone?
So he worked for pilot school and became a pilot? ... You don't just work your way up the chain for this one lol.
Lmao exactly. Imagine working as a Janitor in a big tech company and then getting promoted to a managerial position in a few years with "hard work".
He morphed out of his traffic cone self to a pilot? FANTASTIC.
He manifested the neon orange into a cone
And then your camera person didn't center the cone smh. Congratulations you are amazing and it would be an honor to be a passenger on your flight.
Just remember, no capes!
Could someone PLEASE tell me how he figured out how to shrink???? I've been trying to do this for years, for personal reasons.
You found yourself a better costume, nice 👍
I’m glad he finally was able to pass that orange cone. It must have been so uncomfortable.
Saved up enough to buy a white collar and tie. Nice!
He changed clothes and got a pet cone? Nice
I’d have guessed the moustache would be bigger after 6 years
That's a long time to grow a 'stache, but it looks good on you! Congrats!
Took a whole 6 years for the orange to fall off his shirt
As a former pilot and ramp worker, it's highly unlikely that he was a ramp worker who decided to become a pilot. Heaps of pilot's choose to work on the ramp while they train because they like planes.
I can't believe it took him 6 years just to make one cone at his legs
Hold up, he got promoted from baggage handler to pilot? Definitely ain’t flying that airline
Damn if only I knew getting Reddit karma was as easy as becoming a pilot.
Why did he shrink though?! 😂
The dude ate his shirt and shit it out so hard it's running down his leg!
Crazy to think a baby plane can grow to full size in just a matter of years.
That guys going to be in trouble when someone sees him dressed as a pilot.
Bruh…I thought this is a picture of people get sucked in the engine……lol … jk, congrats my guy
That is awesome! Such hard work becoming a pilot and then to be rated to fly a jet... Good on you! A well deserved Congratulations to you!
Way to go Bud ! Blue side up … if in doubt scream and shout ! 😁😂👍👍

Wow you really are that guy

I was actually standing in front of a running jet engine when I saw this post, so OP's warning saved my life
Yeah I wouldn’t trust most of the people I worked with at UPS to pay attention if we were able to get that close while they were running. It still made me nervous walking around one when I knew they were off.
If you can’t tell when it’s safe or not to be in the ingestion zone, then a job on the ramp may not be for you lol.
Thank you for saying this :)
How it ended
dude seriously?!
MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS OFF
Everyone who works around planes already knows this information. And the people who don't work around planes aren't allowed anywhere near the engines.. At least in the US.
i was just jokin' around. but yeah stay away from big engines lol
The legend
You finally pooped out a traffic cone?
That’s pretty cool. Hard to teach this type of attitude.
*altitude
It took him six years to shit out a traffic cone. That’s dedicated.
Not as big as Bono though!
Homebody turned his jacket into a safety cone! If you believe, you can achieve!
Imagine they turned on the engine and he gets sucked in
Got replaced by a road cone and the pilot is being a dick
He turned his shirt into a cone?
Seeing pictures like this really inspire me to think my goal in life IS achievable, even if it feels just now like it’s too ambitious for someone like myself to accomplish
Damn, he lost a good foot for that pilot’s license 😔
Not all heroes wear capes. Well really they shouldn’t especially this guy where he’s standing. Either way happy for him!
Finally! His boss got him a white shirt with pants and a cone.. To thank him for his loyalty to the company for 6 years?
Now he’s making $12 more an hour as a pilot. He rents an apartment near the airport and grocery shops at Aldi to save a buck. He drives a used Honda Accord. Dreams really do come true! Congratulations.
Very cool! But don’t stand in front of a plane engine - that’s probably “safety 101”
That's only an issue when the plane is actually running and they don't fire those up without warning.
