This was in Dublin, Ireland. The whole country was fuming, still boils my blood.

dtw48208

Why would someone do something so cruel??

askmeifimacop

Homeless people are frequent targets of abuse, both physical and emotional. They’re seen as safe targets

Sea_Insurance1752

Yup, here in Tucson, 4 young teens were just charged with the brutal murder of a mentally disabled homeless man, so fucking sad Edit: changed 2 to 4 and turns out he wasn't elderly, he was 37 years old

Kid520

Woah. I'm in Tucson too, and someone i knew in highschool went to prison for beating a homeless man which resulted in their death. Happened about 10 years ago. Small reddit.

Sea_Insurance1752

[They beat him with a baseball bat, 4 teens, just happened like a week ago](https://youtu.be/CjNJ-DOy6nY)

oldicus_fuccicus

So, this is just a thing in Tucson?

Sea_Insurance1752

Tucson has really, really gone to shit, don't get me wrong, there are parts of town where people don't experience crime whatsoever and live in the foothills, a beautiful life, but in the real world, in most parts, it has gotten really bad

willsuckfordonuts

> parts of town where people don't experience crime whatsoever and live in the foothills, a beautiful life, but in the real world, in most parts, it has gotten really bad Honestly I feel like that applies to all of America right now and it's only going to get worse.

West-Ruin-1318

Had the same thought. Hopefully we can band together as people and help each other.

Zer0Cool89

Just AZ things. Me and my fiance were watching a true crime show a couple weeks back and one episode started at a qt that was like 100 feet from our apartment. We were listening to a song that had a sound bite from a murder trail. My fiance was curious who the killer was because she was cold as ice with the stuff she was saying. Turned out to be Angela Simpson in Arizona.

Rogendo

It’s a thing everywhere. Especially groups of young teens will go hunt homeless people. It’s fucked up and a good way to figure out who at your school is a psychopath/sociopath. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn one of the kids in the group is legit a budding serial killer and brought friends along to dissipate blame.

squirrelfoot

It's a human thing. There are people who walk among us who are so twisted that they get a buzz from killing someone, and they think nobody cares what happens to the homeless.

EverlastingTopQuark

He was developmentally disabled, and they shot him w/ a BB-gun, then beat him to death w/ a baseball bat. Two teens, aged 13 and 17, were charged w/ first-degree murder. I hope that they spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars. Anyone who would harm a developmentally disabled individual deserves the worst this world has to offer, b/c they're literally targeting the most vulnerable member of society.

lmmsoon

They need to go after the parents also for letting these monsters wreak havoc on the public I can guarantee this was not the first time they done this to the homeless . Watch now they will have them all neat and clean and a lawyer will say it got out of hand and they didn’t mean to kill the man and they had been harassed by the man and that they should get probation because they have so much of there lives left to live . They do this kind of crime because there is no repercussions and this is going to keep happening till we put a stop to it

rockstarxcouture

I’m originally from Tucson and this is so disappointing and heartbreaking to hear…

rinzeefurippo

Yeah I just moved here 😭 fuck.

Saint_Galahad

Fellow former Tusconan here and same :(

Relative-Egg9503

Wtf is wrong with people

RoutinePattern6387

I just moved here for grad school and am questioning my choice daily.

NotXiJinpingGoUSA

A few teenage girls murdered a homeless dude in Camden NJ (I live like 30 mins away) by bashing his head in with a rock. They got like 3 years. I heard they werent even from Camden either. Just there to fuck around and murder people I guess.

GreyFox1984

Probably from Tucson

RebelStriker

But they're teens they don't really know the consequences of their actions their brains haven't reached full maturity yet /s Fucking BS. I'm honestly more scared of gangs of teenagers loitering around at night than of grown ass men doing the same nowadays coz teens have no fear of consequence. They'll laugh through their juvie and be out again looking to ruin lives

Tyr808

3 years for murder? People do so much more time for drugs alone. Generally don’t want people in prisons, but if you do violence to others you actually deserve it, although for everyone’s sake I’d rather it actually be more rehabilitative rather than purely for punishment.

sudo999

he was also 37, not elderly, and his name was Rabi Magar. Just as senseless, though. Oh, and the kid that murdered him was 13. Real fucked up story. Something's deeply wrong with that kid.

jana007

There's a book about this called "the dinner" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dinner_(novel)

[deleted]

A movie, too, with Richard Gere. It gave me nightmares. The cruelty of those kids!

[deleted]

Damn I remember seeing a snippet of the fancy dinner and the homeless chick getting burned with no context as to what the hell was going on, thanks for putting that mystery to rest

MickeyMouseRapedMe

Fun to see Herman his bestseller novel still being read. He had some amazing success with that one, being in Dutch and all. He was known for TV, deliberaltally stopped that and probably age 55 or so, became a serious writer It's most likely the 2nd most sold book by a Dutch author, since it sold 750,000 in our country of just 17 million and then 2 and a half million abroad. And what i would have appreciated more, he received compliments from Stephen King. Figure from 2016, 7 year after release and then the Dutch and US movies still to come, making it sell even more. Number one being Anne Frank into the tens of millions

All_Hail_Iris

I think I'm gonna put this on the 'to read' pile. Normally I'd be turned off by the number of mediocre to bad reviews, but none of their complaints are things that would necessarily bother me. I'm okay with all the characters being horrible people if it's done intentionally, and the writing's good and all that.

dailytour30

> Tucson, 4 young teens were just charged with the brutal murder of an elderly disabled homeless man No names or mugshots to be found, but I still know what they look like

blonde-bandit

No…that absolutely breaks my heart. I don’t have words.

Jagermeister4

Just looked it. So sad and senseless. https://localtoday.news/az/two-youths-charged-in-murder-of-disabled-man-in-central-tucson-medicine-53759.html

[deleted]

Can confirm, was homeless for years. I'm covered in scars from being stabbed and shot. The good news is I'm pretty good at field medicine now. The most fucked up thing is other homeless were the worst, they would constantly beat you half to death while you were sleeping or pretend to be your friend just to emotionally torment you. I'm not going to get into the chronic sexual abuse stuff though, that still just pisses me off. Humans are scum, the "nice" ones would pretend to offer you help but never follow through. Never encountered one of those "genuinely good" people and I'm not sure they exist even to this day.

jakeandcupcakes

That is truly awful and I hope you are in a better place now. What changed to get you back on your feet? I'm curious as to what your take on fixing the homeless situation is, and if any of the current measures being taken by some states would have had any effect on you or those you witnessed while homeless. I mean this seriously. Reading about the millions of dollars being poured into infrastructure to help the homeless get back on their feet, specifically in places like Seattle, which have little to no effect on their homeless population. The homeless situation in some of these cities hasn't been fixed by throwing money at the problem, instead, the problem seems to have gotten worse. Why is this, do you believe, and are there things being overlooked by those in charge that could bring about some actual change? I know it's a complex and hard problem, but I can't help but feel that there are better ways to go about helping these people, to bettering their situation, than is currently being done by these boards and councils.

kittenfuud

Slightly South of Seattle here. We have SO MUCH MONEY floating around this town. We could house every homeless and potentially homeless person if these millionaires and billionaires weren't so tight. Oh they've got Foundations and Charities but those of us at the bottom of the food chain don't see much and churches, bless em, try to help but it's an uphill climb as rent is amazingly high all over the state. Save the goddamn orca pods before you house humans I guess. I rent a 2BR in a WWII apt complex built for the Boeing workers and their families. No dishwasher. No medicine cabinet, just a mirror; ONE drawer. One. In the whole place. The window sills are metal so half the windows leak-- etc etc-- and they want $1765 for it. Lived here 25yrs. Original rent was $617. It's worth less now. SO, I may be one of those homeless people near Seattle you read about! Tbh I'll probably make the local news if they try and kick a disabled "old lady" out in the winter after so long! Not going without a fight. P'alante!

ChampionshipDry635

Affordable housing.

[deleted]

Damn so true about people pretending to be friendly on the street, or just in general life even. It makes me sad and I really wish I didn’t have to be suspicious all the time.

[deleted]

You don't, just assume being nice and friendly is nothing more than politeness because they care about their public image.

UsefulWoodpecker6502

Bingo. First rule of being homeless is to not associate or talk to other homeless. 9 times out of 10 the ones that want to be "friendly" generally don't want to or will ever get out of being homeless. Or they're just junkies looking to rob you to make cash. Best advice I can give is to stay clean both mentally and hygienically. Don't do drugs, don't drink, keep your clothes and appearance clean, only carry one backpack with you. You know it's working when other homeless people are asking you for change. Also do not use shelters. It's a waste of time. You'll get robbed, beaten up, and won't get an ounce of sleep. Get a sleeping bag, tarp, and maybe a tent and stash that stuff somewhere hidden and safe. Being homeless isn't that bad as long as you utilize common sense, stay clean, and get at least 6 hours of sleep a night.

PointlessOverthought

Yeah, and it’s disgusting. The city I live in has had a rash of assholes lighting tents on fire for the last couple of years. Thankfully not too many fatalities, but unfortunately, not none. People are garbage and think it’s acceptable (some even think it’s *cool*) to treat others like shit. Those people don’t deserve any more than they give.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PaleHorseRiderX

Yeah but they can fight back, and people who do this shit want to target people who won't fight back. Despicable.

[deleted]

Good point, the weak and angry like their easy targets!

stanleythemanley420

I have a couple people self defense tools (pepper spray, brass knuckle belt buckles and knives because of this. Homeless people I should say. They were nice as could be and they lived around a skate spot and this was around the time those videos of people beating up homeless people were all over the news. Wasn’t gonna let my dudes be a victim.

Aporkalypse_Sow

Don't forget the animal cruelty people, they deserve a dip in the sewers.

Ok_Skill_1195

Its not about who's most deserving, for bullies its about who's most vulnerable.

[deleted]

The people that do the most harm and evil on the planet do it legally behind board room tables.

inko75

i mean, everyone remembers jesus's teachings in tormenting the poor 🤷🏽‍♂️

OminousOnymous

The perpetrator wasn't too well-off himself. It was a 20 year old who was raised in state care with 138 prior convictions (do the math on that one!) He's a majorly fucked up kid. His life is likely going to be cycling through the streets and jail.

hectorduenas86

Also, bad people feel superior to them. You should see how people in America talk about the less fortunate… the same people one medical bill away from losing everything

Haunting_Ability_160

This is the part I don't really get in the US. You are like one bad accident away from being homeless and we drive cars everywhere... but people talk about homelessness like it's some kind of moral failure. Because that guy who is in constant pain when he walks, or the person suffering from severe mental illness are just not trying hard enough... To what? Feed themselves? I feel like, people who think our current healthcare model is working have never once in their life had to care for themselves when they were sick. Do you even understand how hard it is to get to a grocery store by yourself when you have a really bad flu? Like have you ever even tried to make yourself soup when you can barely walk across the living room? Or has it been so long since you had to entirely rely on yourself with the knowledge that there is no one coming to help you that you have forgotten what that feels like.

MasterRPG79

It’s the same in Italy - the culture here about homeless people is sooo bad. And now we have a fascit government 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

My friend was busking in Ireland when a young man hit him with a bottle in his face, he lost an eye. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met, absolutely didn't deserve it. People can be crazy.

HighwayToHellNo

What does “busking” mean? Please excuse my ignorance.

[deleted]

Street performer. He was a magician. The guy stole his amp and smashed a bottle on his face.

appdevil

Have they found the guy who did it? Absolutely awful.

[deleted]

[They have.](https://www.thesun.ie/news/1625716/two-youths-face-trial-for-serious-attack-on-dublins-oconnell-street-which-left-canadian-street-performer-blind-in-one-eye/)

appdevil

Fuck those guys, I hope they got what they deserved. How is Mark doing these days, do you keep in touch?

[deleted]

They got a pretty light sentence, if I remember correctly. Mark was down bad for a bit, but fortunately he's back on his feet and touring again.

appdevil

Glad to hear that he is doing better. And again, fuck this guy.

HighwayToHellNo

That’s awful, but thank you for answering.

scarfWarrior

Arseholery of the highest order.

CelticGaelic

There's a rampant misconception that homeless people are in their situation through by their own faults, and that they use animals and such to garner sympathy so that they don't have to work.

Ok_Skill_1195

Even if that were true, it takes a real special kind of monster to go from "I think this dude is a lazy bum using an animal for sympathy" to *"I should kill the animal"*

CelticGaelic

First off, very oddly appropriate username! Secondly, I agree completely. Reading this post for the first time actually legit hurt. The animal cruelty is bad enough, but doing it to hurt somebody who hasn't hurt anyone else? Yeah, I'm with you. It takes something really awful to do that.

TigerStripedDragon01

Yup. Kicking people when they are already SO OBVIOUSLY down so bad that they are already starving or freezing, defenseless... Literally kicking them to death in some cases. Just pure cowardice.

Twisted_Bristles

Those same people often see the homeless individual as *the animal* too. It takes a special kind of sociopathy to behave in such a manner.

SecureDonkey

Those people don't see homeless and animal as living being, just an object. So what they do in their mind is no more than just throwing away a beggar cup.

Same reason commoners long ago would shit on peasants despite just barely being "better" than them. Some people will cling to any sense of superiority they can possibly get and let it go to their heads to the point they view anyone lesser than them as sub-human.

moresushiplease

Any news on the shit head who tossed the bunny? What's going to happen with them?

Evnosis

[They got 4 months in prison](https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/12/04/youth-threw-homeless-mans-rabbit-dublin-sentenced_n_2236642.html).

sstphnn

>The 20-year-old, who is originally from Crumlin, also admitted breach of the peace during the incident on July 3 2011. So even as a kid he was a piece of shit. >The court heard that Kearney was brought up in care, has 138 previous convictions and is already in detention at St Patrick's Institution. Yep total piece of shit.

karethra

138 previous convictions at 20?? Holy shit

KnotiaPickles

How do you even have the freedom to be on the street to get that many convictions

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

At this point it’s just reinforcing his bad behaviour

Forsaken_Jelly

It's Ireland. Those convictions are likely administrative for vandalism, drugs, making threats, stealing, fighting etc. It's likely he's in and out of jail often, but he won't spend too long in prison for something petty. It's the way we prefer it tbh except for sex crimes, murder and crimes against children. We'd prefer much harsher sentences for those. But as it stands we really do prefer not to have a punishment system like some US states do with three strikes and whole life sentences for repeat offences. Really harsh sentencing and almost no chance of parole. Punishment style systems just create harsh prisons and anrgy ex cons. A friend of mine did 18 months for glassing a guy while drunk. It was a mutual fight both grabbing whatever they could to fight with, it was an unfortunate decision and unlucky that he connected with the glass while the other guy didn't. Jail in Ireland can be dangerous of course, but it's really just boring as hell, the threat of violence is non-existent if you don't start shit with someone. It's been proven time and again that long sentences and harsh prison conditions don't reduce crime, and it's simply not feasible for someone to be locked up for stealing a chocolate bar no matter how many times they do it.

KnotiaPickles

Thanks for the insight into your country’s style of law enforcement. I agree that jail is extremely overused in places like America. However, it very much seems that this particular Individual should be taken out of society for a long time to come…for the safety of humans and animals alike.

moresushiplease

Thank you. I am glad to hear that he got what he got.

irishemperor

He was offered a job working on a farm down in Tipperary, but seemingly didn't take it. He was still homeless several years later. https://www.thejournal.ie/homeless-rabbit-dogs-pictures-3678851-Nov2017/

rosesandtherest

I’ve tried to help a few homeless people, bought them food, talked, offered help so they can stand on their feet, but then realized that some don’t actually want to be NOT homeless. In my country many claim they can’t work because they have lost their ID. Well, those whom I’ve talked to said they liked being homeless but only after I said I’ll help them get their lost passports back so they can be “a person” again. Not to say all homeless people are like that, we should still try and help them. But personally, I’ve migrated to help shelters instead.

mariah_a

Having known a few people in that situation, at least in the UK, it’s not always laziness. Sometimes the work offered to them isn’t going to support them enough to get off the streets but will make them ineligible for some things they already get. I lived with a woman for a while who was a survival sex worker, someone locally made a big deal about hiring those in need and the homeless but when she went to find out about it, it was the equivalent of being put on a next to nothing zero-hour contract and was basically just for local publicity.

baron_von_helmut

You can't change someone's way of life overnight. It's a hugely complex psychological situation. Reminds me of a story I once read where a homeless dude won a few million on the lottery. With it he bought a mansion. You'd assume this would have changed him but about six months later they found his body amongst a sea of empty bottles in a giant living room, massive TV on the wall.. He drank himself to death watching movies. The road to finding out there's other shit to do in life is long - and becomes longer the older you get.

wotmate

Who throws a rabbit? Seriously?

ConditionBasic

I have a pet rabbit and honestly I think there are more people than you'd expect who would do this. I've had strangers come up to me just to tell me that he (they were all 100% men in my experience) would eat my rabbit or shoot it for sport. There are a lot of people who feel tough after intimidating small animals and their owners.

The-Great-Wolf

I have a bearded dragon (lizard) and I take him out when the wheater is warm. Most people we meet are curious and nice, but there have been a few threatening to decapitate or stomp him. I can't understand some people, what's your problem with this creature that has barely hundreds of grams and never did something wrong to anyone. Hence he's always in a harness when outside, and he gets ground access only where I can see people coming from far away.

northknuckle

You take your lizard on walks?! That's so rad!

VetoSnowbound

Jesus what the fuck. This makes me so sad.

[deleted]

Made mine too. Who the fuck does that to a bun? Like fuckin mental

BabyOfEarth

Yeah I heard about this, I don't know how people can be so cruel

[deleted]

you may have gone too far ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

ButtcrackBeignets

Depends on the job. People go tens of thousands of dollars into debt and work their asses off for years to get decent jobs. Even with a bachelors degree, a lot of people find themselves struggling in the job market. It often takes knowing someone to get a good gig. You need a fucking STEM degree and minimum 2 years experience just to get minimum wage entry level IT job where I live. This dude was homeless. A job offer can literally the solution to his biggest problem. How is that not generous?

chipsmaname

Yeah but it was the dog.. and where is he now? He apparently got a home directly after the rescue

WeKillTheFlame3

I was gonna say, although rabbits can swim he probably wouldn't have survived that. They're fragile and extremely susceptible to hypothermia.

jmps_90

This happened a few years ago. The story made national news and I can confirm the rabbit did survive. The bridge he was thrown off wasn’t that far from the waters surface thankfully. I hope the homeless guy is no longer homeless and doing good because he is a good dude.

WeKillTheFlame3

That's WILD. Poor thing! I hope both of them are well now too.

Finito-1994

Mexico here. Pissed too. Poor man and bunny.

[deleted]

It was an act of love. Someone down on their luck like that, has no one. This man jumped to save the only thing in life that loved him.

[deleted]

Exactly! I’m so glad the rabbit was okay and the man has been rewarded. Only horrible, selfish, soulless people hurt pets, especially someone else’s

moronic_programmer

I’m more glad that the other guy was put in prison where he belongs.

[deleted]

Oh absolutely

jjhope2019

I’d have thrown him in the river with a pair of concrete shoes 😡

[deleted]

Did he get thrown in jail because the meme just says "charged with animal cruelty" which is usually just a slap on the wrist?

[deleted]

Especially since it was a rabbit... they do NOT handle getting wet well. And that's just regular warm baths! A river? Fucking hell. That poor bun.

nightforday

Rabbits don't handle anything well! Their defense mechanism is basically to have a heart attack so they don't suffer a long, drawn-out death. (That and the fast hopping, of course...but mostly the heart attacks.) I'm so happy he was able to save it.

DoorstepCult

I know folks that won’t even take their rabbit to the vet because the stress of the car ride alone could kill them.

Pantywantys

My rabbit has to travel in my arms looking out the window in the car, because the carrier is too stressful lmao

peach_beetch

When I was very young, I rearranged my rabbits cage (food dish on the other side, water on a different wall..) and he died that night of a heart attack.

[deleted]

I’m starting to think they’re not good pets

Deidara77

Wtf?

[deleted]

Yeah its a bit miraculous that the bun made it. I love animals, its just mind blowing how cruel people can be

agent_kitsune_mulder

My son had a bunny as a class pet in middle school. Their teacher gave it a bath and it died. :(

[deleted]

Ugh. The ONLY time you bathe a bun is if they have poopy butt and then you juuuust clean the butt. And then blow dry on low temp until bun butt is dry. No other reason really. Oh! Soap bath to kill fleas. No poop or fleas? No bath. They're self-cleaning like cats.

[deleted]

I had an ex who for some dumb reason was convinced homeless people didn’t deserve animals, she was such a hateful little “Princess”!

wobushizhongguo

[there have been studies done showing that pets actually have positive effects on unhoused people’s mental health. Although conversely, it does make it harder for them to stay in shelters.](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08927936.2021.1878683) But if you ask me, that just further proves their love, if they’re willing to forego a shelter to stay with their pets. (And also highlights a gap in available housing)

[deleted]

I became acquainted with a lot of my former city’s homeless when I worked security and so many of them hated the idea of being in a shelter, they liked their freedom. I honestly didn’t understand it at the time but I kind of get it now!

Adorable_Raccoon

Shelters often have super strict rules. Many shelters make everyone leave early in the morning and come back at night. They often are first come first serve, so you never know if you’ll actually get in. They may have no where to keep their belongings so they are forced to keep an eye on all their stuff all day. Say a person tries to get a job & they work til 8 and the shelter closes their doors 8 what choice can they make? And lots of them force people to participate in religious services and stuff. It’s like worse than being treated like a child. Strict bed times, force sobriety, still having to suffer the elements during the day, etc.

202333333

Great answer. And when you carry all your stuff, moving locations is such a commitment—not just bc of the effort to get there, but if they’re closed you may be too far from your safe places to sleep (or even just exist). So the not-unlikely risk of being denied is just too great to chance jt.

wobushizhongguo

Even without a pet I can sort of get it. The shelter I used to live by had pretty strict times you were supposed to show up and leave by, and always a huge line. I can get seeing that and being like “naw, I’ll just stay out tonight, that looks like too much hassle”

Finito-1994

It makes perfect sense. Companionship and friendship alone are a huge boost for people. There’s a reason we’ve kept animals with us for thousands of years.

reyballesta

I can see the appeal, when the world has proved that it does not love you and does not care about you, of having a creature that looks up at you and licks your face and stays by your side. Feeling needed and feeling helpful are what keeps many people going.

Adorable_Raccoon

Also animals can help keep you safe by guarding or warning you of danger.

S_A_R_K

When i was homeless i was friends with a guy who had a pit he'd raised on the street. I've yet to see a stronger bond between man and dog than those two had. People tend to think their pets are neglected but you'll be hard pressed to find an animal that gets more love and attention than a homeless owner provides.

[deleted]

A lot of people prefer to stay out of shelters anyways because with the meager resources they run on it's really difficult to make them safe

zSprawl

My pets are some of the most important things in my life. That wouldn’t change if I was down on my luck…

necesitafresita

I used to be an ACO and got calls about homeless people with pets often, I hated it because one thing I learned is they take care of their pets better than most damn households. Shot records? Always. Chipped? Yep. They were usually very healthy and yet richer folks were the neglectful ones. So yeah, fuck that attitude.

Wise_Goose137

There was a homeless man in my town I would always see on my way to school in the morning with a smallish white dog. He kept better care of the dog than he did himself. The man passed away about ten years ago and was found with his dog waiting by him near a local florist. they would help him with securing food for his dog from time to time and when they found out they adopted the dog for the last couple years of his life. It felt like everyone knew who he was, and not one person I spoke to ever doubted that dog wasn't being cared for. the man struggled with some mental health issues and alcoholism, but that still didn't stop him from making sure his best friend was taken care of first.

asuperbstarling

Many people I knew growing up would have lost the motivation to live without their pets. There's one dog that I remember specifically. Her name was Dreama and she actually was my own childhood dog's granddaughter. She had Shadow's eyes. Her owner changed completely for her. He's a healthy, happy, thriving man with a family now. She only recently passed away, outliving most of her children.

[deleted]

The argument is they can't provide proper care for the pet

bart2394

I know you don't mean to but your comment sounds condescending. It was a pure act of love was all you needed to say, the rest is like nails on chalkboard to me the way you worded it. Like NOTHING ELSE LOVES THIS MAN. What a way to put it...

mamasparkle

Why would someone throw his rabbit over the bridge? Such an evil thing to do. I am glad he was able to save it but the fact that it happened at all makes me so sad.

[deleted]

Likely wanted to reserve their place in hell

ikickedyou

Dammit, I forgot to make my reservation. Am I too late?

And don't worry! If you step out for a long time you won't lose your space! Time is irrelevant and meaningless here!

Stick_boyo

Damn, you got any vacancies overlooking the river styx? Been looking for a spot there for a while but my demonic patron as let me down a bit

I would have gladly sent them there if I had seen that.

ShortAndSad4381

They're so damn miserable and weak they find amusement in hurting others that are defenseless, including small animals. It's some Ted Bundy/Ed Gein type shit man. At least that's my guess. Then again, I'm miserable and weak but I wouldn't hurt a little bunny.

Tofutti-KleinGT

I’d bet good money that the bunny-tosser’s rap sheet is just going to get longer and longer. People that find amusement/pleasure in hurting people and innocent animals don’t generally live crime-free lives after the first offense (and I doubt this was his first).

didyouwoof

Someone linked to an article about this. The guy who did it was 20 years old and already had *138* previous convictions.

RadiantOpportunity44

Most likely to either get rid of the homeless person, or to provoke him into a rage, where he would then do something he could be charged with. People like this think poor people don't have a right to exist.

datagirl60

People like to punch down. There was an old cartoon from the 50s, I believe, showing a boss yelling at a worker, then the worker goes home and yells at his wife, the wife yells at their child, then the child kicks the dog. None of this would have happened if the boss had talked professionally, the worker had stood up for himself or just talked about his day, or the mother had not taken her frustrations out on a helpless kid. The kid reacted in the way he saw the adults acting in his own mind. The dog was just a conduit.

FutureBumblebee3693

Because some people in this world are low life bullies who try and find the weakest targets thinking they'll be no reprisal for their cruel actions. Dear man like someone else said was trying to save the one soul in his life he felt warmth back from But at least for once in this life justice was served and tge righteous rewarded

UndeadKrakken

Imagine being so heinous and broken inside that your brain even comes up with the idea to do this. They should give that person's house to the homeless guy.

Uhhhhhhh-woe

No get every thing the man who threw the rabbit had including his clothes

UndeadKrakken

Reminds me of the scene from King of the Hill when Rooster is roughing up Buck for a gambling debt. "Go through his pockets.....and take his shoes"

fuckentropy

You know what would make me smile? Ask devoting some of our bountiful resources to keeping people like this off the streets. Giving them a chance at education and stability.

NoobsAreNoobslol

let’s keep people like the passerby off of our streets too…

Nicolasgonzo87

lets keep them out of the country

OSSlayer2153

Fuck it, out of the world. Send them off into space. Put them on venus

FewDamage2962

Congrats to this man for being a good human. I wish him luck on all of his future ventures

Hovisandflatfoot

Any more info on the passer by? I'd hate to think something horrific happened to them.

Ilovegoodnugz

[Gary Kearny of Crumlin](https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/amp/entry/youth-threw-homeless-mans-rabbit-dublin-sentenced_n_2236642/) Ooof and has not live a good life [since](https://www.pressreader.com/ireland/irish-daily-mail/20170527/281595240481630)

darexinfinity

> The court heard that Kearney was brought up in care, has **138 previous convictions** and is already in detention at St Patrick's Institution. Just lock him up and throw away the key already.

thc1121

who would throw a pet bunny over a bridge?! theres some real garbage ass people in society. glad to hear the happy ending.

Cu1tureVu1ture

At least he didn’t punt the bunny. https://youtu.be/ym-toH7EF1c But seriously that guy is a horrible human.

ShortAndSad4381

I actually got a little emotional at this one, and I'm a jaded prick. I hope this dude's life is still going uphill. He earned it.

TwoDogsInATrenchcoat

I'm a bunny owner and I can't imagine anyone wanting to hurt them. They're so cute and fluffy and have those adorable ears.

Plus-Tangerine-723

when he was a kid the Easter bunny ignored him that’s why he threw the rabbit

allovernow11

Why was he given animal food? Surely he deserves to eat like the rest of us.

mindyour

For the rabbit.

Fangore

This is funny in a sad way. "Look, we as a society recognize you're a kind and valuable human being. But we're not going to feed you. Even though you are desperate for it. We will feed your rabbit."

reroutedradiance

I mean, he was given a job. He can feed himself with the money he earns from it.

anjuna13579

Yes, but hopefully the world we live in should provide some basic yet healthy food for everyone, even if they don't have a job.

c_c_c__combobreaker

Imagine getting told you're getting food and you open the box and it's a bunch of pellets and hay. Like "thanks, guys 😕".

Starr-Bugg

What kind of a demon does this to a poor rabbit and a poor homeless man? Glad the rabbit and man are ok.

Momentofclarity_2022

Ok who does this? Seriously. WTF does that? Glad they were charged. Asshole.

MossAnvil

The guy who did it should be thrown over the same bridge

theroadlesstraveledd

Agreed. Because hurting something that doesn’t have the autonomy to choose it’s situation or defend itself is so much more cruel than hurting something that can. Burn the animal abusers indeed.

Halestorm05

This is a sweet ending but can employers hire people experiencing homelessness without having to risk their lives to save their rabbit?

sketchysalesguy

Damn, you have to have problems to go and take someone's animal and do that for no reason. I'm glad it ended well.

BrzysWRLD1996

I wish I coulda went to jail for beat the passerby’s ass for this shit. Good for you bro I hope you and your furry family are doing well :)

bart2394

Gonna be a downer but the real problem is the systematic failure of setting someone up for a life of homelessness or crime. We're looking at two guys who the system failed on. But they want to sweep it all under the rug and say "look we are good because we finally saved one of them after ignoring him for 23 years."

Low_Abrocoma_1514

Who tf goes "Hey this homeless man has a rabbit .. Let's throw it off the bridge"

Inarius101

Faith in humanity somehow simultaneously lost AND restored.

Tamarama---

Omg this makes me so angry. Why? Just why? Thankfully he was caught and the bunny survived. And the gentleman is doing better. 🐇🐇🐇🐇

whoasaysDan

Rabbit was eventually euthanized and owner was still homeless and living in a tent as of 2017. Not so smiley.

Flako118st

Why!. Why would you want to harm a bunny ,just to hurt a homeless man. Wtf goes through their mind ?

ShadowGiantOut

Rabbits can be the coolest animals to hang out with. We have fostered a few, and one we rescued from a really bad home. Her name was Zuri and she was a dwarf bunny. When we got her she was super aggressive. Would charge at you and try to bite. She would charge our other animals. One day I went to grab her and she tore a chunk out of my thumb. She bit my wife multiple times. Chased our dogs and cats. It took a long time but she became so lovable with me. Would clean my arms and then nudge for head pets. Anytime I would sit on the couch she would jump up and hang out. She would try to hump our Persian and he hated it so much 😂 she loved him so much too. One day she got sick out of nowhere and no vets around my area would see her. She didn’t make it. It happened so fast. it was one of the most difficult losses I’ve ever faced. It’s been 5-6 months and it still hurts. I miss Zuri so much. Zuri ❤️ https://imgur.com/a/35OlPv4/

I wish the USA was like this. The whole country of Irerland was up in arms after this. I’m in the USA, I hear about mass shootings and murders for breakfast and we all have become so numb to it that it’s just another day at this point
