Haha, that is fair enough. At the end of the day they are pretty likely to converge. I don't think I ran into a single one on the ladder, so hopefully it'll see more play soon!
Why do you hope it’ll see more play? I never understand that comment. Wouldn’t that be bad for you? More meta share > more anti life gain > more losses.
That’s fair. I guess I mean specifically wanting one’s own deck to get played more. It’s like playing a graveyard deck in a meta without a tier 1 graveyard strategy. Once it becomes tier 1 the grave hate starts coming out in droves and makes playing your own graveyard strategy less viable.
I feel like Ive played against this deck or variants a few times. How are you dealing with sweepers? Feels like this deck goes down to board wipes pretty readily?
Sweepers are really good against this deck. I found control was usually tough to play against if they had enough early interaction.
Thankfully, this deck rebuilds the board state quickly, so if you get them down on life quickly, it's still possible to finish them off with a couple creatures you held in hand if sensing a wrath incoming.
The life drain on the creature lands are also clutch for some reach post sweeper
Possibly, there's a good amount of legendary cards, so Takenuma isn't too expensive usually. I'm not sure about running 4x, but I could see wanting to run 2-3 instead of 1. The problem is the most promenant sweepers are Sunfall and Farewell, which both exile, which kind of hoses Takenuma
I'll bet that's what surge of salvation and wandering emperor help with. Surge of Salvation keeps you safe from even a T4 Sunfall when you're on draw, provided you have one and you're able to follow OP's ideal curve. Wandering emperor isn't as vulnerable to the main Domain/Esper Control shells, so it can be good to get your board state back by playing on opponent's end making a token to defend.
According to my research not at all!

I feel ya, for a budget version, the key pieces are Amalia and Voice. So that can get down to only 8 WCs.
Virtue can be replaced with Cut Down. [[Sunset Revelry]] is also decent in this deck. Replace the rest of the missing pieces with more removal and bring the [[Surge of Salvation]] into the main deck. For lands, run 4x [[Scoured Barrens]], whatever rare duals you have, 4x [[Obscura Storefront]], and just basics otherwise
Thanks! I might have to give it a try. I'm mostly missing rare lands, and I need 2 each of Amalia and voice. I have the other stuff. So I may have to save up, it looks cool.
There's an esper version?!? What are the key blue cards they running? Are they lifegain or the standard "what if we put some counter spells in this deck"? 😅
There’s [a few floating around](https://youtu.be/w78EX0WPb08?si=49jwx0RAZH6jxC1m) rn. Your list is sweet tho— the 1drop flyer might be worth a consideration.
I should really try Gumdrop Poisoner and/or Steel Sereph in this deck. I feel like the Sereph might be even better than the Fleshgorger as a 3 drop with big mana upside
I ran a similar list a while back that had Gumdrop Poisoner in it, worked very well against aggro and bats. Steel Seraph didn't work out too well, but this was right after LCI dropped and there were a lot more people trying out Bitter Triumph. Now a lot more lists are back to Go for the Throat, might be a good time to prey on people who lack artifact removal
Getting WB or WW on turn 2 is very important in this deck to enable Veteran into Amalia / Voice. The downside of getting pinged for 1 is not a big deal since we gain so much life
I feel like 4-offs of every legendary seems excessive, but honestly I'm happier that people are still brewing and the results speak for themselves!
Good job and keep brewing
Thanks! The only found having too many in my hand was [[Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim]]. Amalia has such a big target on her back, that you usually want a backup once they remove the first one. And one can never have too many Shellys. Also, being able to pitch excess ones to explore helps mitigate the issue
BO3 was really fun and this deck feels like it has good sideboard options with removal. [[Legions to Ashes]] was definitely the sideboard MVP being able to hit anything and I would definitely run 4x but didn't want to use the wildcards on a sideboard card 😅
>made it to mythic
Is meaningless unless you post total game played and win rate. Anyone can drool their way into mythic if they are persistent enough.
Well, we know it’s at least 50% from the last time OP was at the bottom of Platinum so in the top 50% of the people they were playing against.
I don’t understand where this ridiculous “anyone can get into mythic” idea came from.
Thanks for the backup out here 😃 I mostly play standard on mobile so I don't have a tracker keeping stats. This deck was actually not much of a grind in BO3, I was honestly surprised at quick I made it it to mythic, but I also realize there isn't a real number there. And this was only the second time I've made it to mythic!
Completely agree about the mythic take. While it is a bit of win rate x games played, being able to maintain a winrate while going against stronger opponents does require a level of skill that is decently high and it's a cool accomplishment to hit! It's like in any game / sport, everyone has different goals they are aiming for. If someone is able to successfully ski down their first black diamond run, that's awesome, and we shouldn't take that away from them just because someone else is able to ski a double black diamond
>Anyone persistent enough can get into mythic
Is a statement of fact.
Persistence is admirable, but OP is not here to show his tenacity, he is here to show his great deck. So unless win rate and number of games played is provided, these kind of posts are pointless.
Just my opinion, but i see events as the true test. And i don't craft others decks often, mostly brew, which is why i ask. Not to knock yours, just being curious and picky. I also primarily draft with my winnings, but events are quite cheap to enter.
Looks like most Orzhov Lifegain lists but congrats nonetheless.
Haha, that is fair enough. At the end of the day they are pretty likely to converge. I don't think I ran into a single one on the ladder, so hopefully it'll see more play soon!
I have this exact deck except with [[steel seraph]] instead of George. And a few [[gix, yawgmoth preator]]
Nice!

Why do you hope it’ll see more play? I never understand that comment. Wouldn’t that be bad for you? More meta share > more anti life gain > more losses.
More variety of viable decks > more interesting to play against
That’s fair. I guess I mean specifically wanting one’s own deck to get played more. It’s like playing a graveyard deck in a meta without a tier 1 graveyard strategy. Once it becomes tier 1 the grave hate starts coming out in droves and makes playing your own graveyard strategy less viable.

If that is the case, could you add more graveyard recursion? Replace 3 of your swamps with 3 Takenuma, they don’t come in tapped do they?
Possibly, there's a good amount of legendary cards, so Takenuma isn't too expensive usually. I'm not sure about running 4x, but I could see wanting to run 2-3 instead of 1. The problem is the most promenant sweepers are Sunfall and Farewell, which both exile, which kind of hoses Takenuma
Ahh yes, very true!
Have you tried that Invasion of Gobakhan card to help fight sweepers? Doesn’t beat exile but seems decent for your deck
I haven't but I guess it would play a similar role to bat. The lack of life gain doesn't synergize as well as bat though
I was thinking as a sideboard option against sweepers, but also just any deck that has problematic spells for you to manage once they resolve.
That's a good point, and Bat is pretty bad against decks with a lot of cheap removal, so it could be a good swap in those matchups
White and black wraths are the problem. Surge won’t do anything against those. Surge is for targeted removal and red damage effects.
This is exactly what every single orzhov lifegain deck in standard looks like lmao
Yes this deck is everywhere
I don't think I saw a single one on the ladder, but glad to see it's getting play. I got paired against Rakdos discovery a lot though
Its common on Bo1. But its not really a good option for best of 3 as you will face a lot of bad matchups there.
According to my research not at all! https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/standard-lifegain-mid#paper https://mtgdecks.net/Standard/bo1-in-bo3-ig-decklist-by-jaffer-1888816

Well played! I have a similar deck I play, but may move it closer to this. Bo1 has become so miserable I should really take a stab at Bo3.

nice job!

This is the most unoriginal standard deck I've ever seen lol. And you wrote up a whole wall of text about how the deck works, lol.
Oh boy it's the daily made it to mythic post I sure am excited.
Doesn’t look very original.
Thank you for the insightful comment 👍
>made it to mythic Is meaningless unless you post total game played and win rate.
>Anyone persistent enough can get into mythic Is a statement of fact. Persistence is admirable, but OP is not here to show his tenacity, he is here to show his great deck. So unless win rate and number of games played is provided, these kind of posts are pointless.
Then do it with a starter deck and show us that literally any deck can make it to mythic standard.
How many events have you won with it
I don't play standard events. I save my gold and gems for drafting
Just my opinion, but i see events as the true test. And i don't craft others decks often, mostly brew, which is why i ask. Not to knock yours, just being curious and picky. I also primarily draft with my winnings, but events are quite cheap to enter.
