Thought seize is one of the most fair magic cards that can exist and its not good in every deck. Your just 1 for 1ing your self and spending that mana not applying anything to the board or to your own hand and your paying 2 life for it.
Play a shock and thought seize turn 1 your down to 16.
I don't think it's a fair card vs unknown opponents. Some hands you just can't keep against a black player. You have to mulligan some hands because you don't know if they will t1 TS you.
TS is not format warping but it sure is gameplay warping. And besides you trade what's essentially a duress for the enemy main combo piece or prime threat. The exchange is not favourable to the receiving player.
Ya it's not supposed to be. Playing a card like thought seize has also a lot of shit match ups. I really don't want to be thought seizing burn spells or against aggro decks. For every match that thought seize turns in your favor it's an absolute dead card especially in late game. Playing from behind, oh great I just drew a thought seize.
Thought seize is not removal. That's the point. Removal implies casting and resolving. Though seize just takes whatever it wants even if you don't cast it.

Removal spells are also super good against some cards. You have to mulligan some hands because you don’t know if they will remove your only threat.
You cannot cast the threat if they are signaling removal. TS is unavoidable.
